Error code 4000 when burning

Hello,
I am having trouble burning my songs that I downloaded from ITunes. Have burned them once before and all went well but when I try to burn now all seems to go well and I can play the songs on my PC but at the end of the song I get a lot of odd noises and static. Very loud. I ran the diagnostics and this was the result:
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 (Build 2195)

If anyone can help solve this problem it would be greatly appreciated. I have removed all item from running while I burn and it seems to make no difference. I am using Memorex media (CD-R) which is the same media I used with success the last time I burned with ITunes.
I am running ITunes on a PC with Windows 2000 Pro. Service pack 4.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

You're using the Finder to burn?
A Google search on this error code turns up a lot of
topics. Some point to the media as the culprit,
others point to Tiger, some to the drive itself.
Fuji isn't a bad brand of media, but it's not
amongst the best, either.
Generally, an older burner can use 16X media, but
would obviously only be able to burn at the maximum
speed of the drive. It's possible that your drive
doesn't recognize the media code on the disc and
refuses to burn. Sometimes a firmware update to the
drive can solve this problem.

  • Patch for error code 2131 when burning CDs in itunes for Toshiba computers:

Just today, Toshiba posted patch for the infamous "error code 2131" when trying to burn CDs in itunes on many Toshiba laptops. Lucky for me, today was the first time I tried to do so, but I feel for all you other folks who have been very frustrated about this issue. Here is the link to it on the Toshiba support page:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/susc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=2024958&moid=1909174&rpn=PSAF3U&BV_SessionID=@@@@043462335 6.1208403240@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccgadedlgfhkdecgfkceghdgngdgnn.0&ct=DL&alldocs=false
I'm going to install it now and report back if there is anything tricky about it (I read in another forum that someone had already gotten the patch and had posted a link to it at a private website where there were a few different options and you had to figure out which was the right one, but this should be easier and "official")
    Hope this helps!

hmmmmm. i'm proceeding under the assumption that you've got a Dell 5150/E510. if i'm wrong about that, please check in with Dell to confirm your model prior to applying any updates.
i had a look at the support site for your model (or at least, what i'm assuming your model is). your firmware appears to be up to date for the HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B that you're getting the error on, but there does seem to be newer firmware available for the SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615. so it might be worth getting that, just in case there some kind of odd interaction happening between the drives.

  • Cd/DVD not burning.  Error Code 0x8002006E when burning DVD's

I have a MacBook Black and am trying to burn cd's and dvd's. I have tried multiple brands of DVD and CD and can get the cd's to burn once in a while with a microboards printable cd. When they don't burn I get either an error saying something about not being able to calibrate laser power, or it goes through like it's burning and shows up on the desktop, but when I go to open the disk, there is nothing on it. DVD's never finish, giving me the error code 0x8002006E. It will also not read any DVDr's on the machine. Stamped DVD's (store bought)are fine, but multiple brands of DVDr will not read. All of the burned DVD's I have are personal movies and music videos that I made on the machine. Anyone have any suggestions? Is my superdrive toast?

You can check in system profile and select disc burning to verify what cd/dvds are readable by your superdrive....Also with that error message you can try removing any extra ram chip installed, with that model powerbook it also has onboard ram built into logic...being a disc reading problem id say its the superdrive itself, you can try cleaning the lens with those cleaning discs you buy from electronic stores..Burn disc whilst running on power adaptor and not battery...
just a few things to try might help you

  • Error code 0x80020042 when burning DVD

I recently updated my 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857 Superdrive to Mac OS X (10.5.6) and installed the latest updates.
Since updating I have not been able to use Burn to burn DVDs. I get the following error - Burning "xxx" failed because the disc cannot be written to. (Error code 0x80020042). I have successfully used these DVDs before the upgrade. The DVDs that I am using are TDK double layer DVD +R (Item code: DVD+R85AA).
    Can anyone suggest a fix.

I have used cleaning kit from an audio/video store. It's basically a CD with a pair of brushes underneath. It has restored a failing optical drive in my tray-loading eMac several times.
But I have heard that these kind of kits aren't so good in slot loading laptops, because there is a chance of them getting stuck inside. I suggest contacting a local Apple certified service shop and seeing what they recommend.

  • Error Code- 6 When Burning DVDs/ CDs- Any Ideas

I recently had a problem burning DVDs from iMovie due to an error code- 6 (whatever that is!) I had put this problem to one side for a number of months, on account of the fact I don't burn that many DVDs. I have now found the problem has spread to CDs as well.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can solve this, or is it new drive time?
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   1Ghz Power PC

    Hi Skinner,Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Firstly you can't burn DVDs from iMovie!
Under OS 9 Error 6 was an overflow error, although I can't confirm its the same under OS X it sounds like it could be a buffer overflow issue in iDVD. This would mean that the computer cannot supply the data to the drive quickly enough. Try the following things (which admittedly are undesirable but may be neccesary):
Close down all Applications not directly involved in what you're doing to free up processor time and memory.
Burn at a lower speed (choose 1x or 2x rather than 4 x).
Try different media those PC World branded disc may not be as good as a Verbatim.
    Hope this helps

Was burning cds fine for years, now I get this error code.

If you recently installed or updated disc burning software it may be conflicting with iTunes.

We first need to determine what program is involved and the details of what you are doing?
You cannot burn your content to DVD disc (assumed DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc) with just Photoshop Elements and its associated Elements Organizer? So, if you are getting this error in your burn to disc, I am suspecting that you are not working with Photoshop Elements.
So, what program and version of it are you working with and on what computer operating system is it running?
The error that you present at burn has been seen before with no one description of what it means (that I have ever seen). Sometimes defragmentation of the computer hard drive and/or using another brand/type DVD disc resolves the issue. If you are in Premiere Elements burn dialog, does hitting the Rescan button a few times have any impact on the situation?

Please review, consider, and then let us know the outcome.

It's an error thrown by Mac OS X's DiscRecording framework (as opposed to an error communicated by the drive's firmware). The message is (as you probably saw)
"The burn failed because of a medium write error."
Could this be a dirty lens issue in the drive.
I don't think there's one single cause for this error. It might be a dirty lens. It might be something else. Not all recordable optical discs work well with all burners. Try a different brand.
