  • Error code 1000 with iMovie

Suddenly when trying to open iMovie (4.0.1) I get the message can't open because of error code 1000. According to apple this code relates to burning a dvd-r from classic. I wasn't doing this.
Repaired permissions, remove plist for iMovie, ran hardware test - all ok.
Any ideas - should I trash iMovie and reinstall? All other applications are fine.
Has anyone run into this error?
    Thanks
    Arthur

A strange problem. Only reinstalling all of iLife fixed iMovie.

  • "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in [name of iMovie file] could not be read or written (Error Code 26)

    Hi all,
I have an iMovie project in iMovie HD 6.0.3. (Mac OS 10.5.8)
It plays, but I cannot copy the file (including saving it to a flash drive). I get either a message
"the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in [name of
iMovie file] could not be read or written (Error Code 26)" or the
message "A project file is missing. The file [name of the QuickTime
movie inside the project.dv] couldn't be opened and is being skipped."
This happened suddenly, I was able to save a backup version numerous
times while working on the project.
I followed some of Karl Petersen's advise on apple discussions. I opened
the package contents, and everything seems to be there. The source file
(original QuickTime movie) is there and can be opened and played. I
replaced the current project file with the backup in the package
contents, but that did not change anything. I was able to export the
movie timeline into a new project as a single clip, but would like to be
able to copy the current project.
    Thanks for any ideas..

Make sure all drives are formatted as "Mac OS Extended". (Journalling preferred, but not necessary).

No matter how I try to finalize an imovie I get the following message:

    Hi
Error -49 opWrErr  File already open with write permission
Trash the preference files while application is NOT Running.
Easiest way to find out if this is the problem is by:
    • Create a new User-Account
    • Log out of Your old one and into this
    • Re-try iMovie
If it now works OK - then 99.9% the problem is iMovie pref. file that needs to be trashed.

  • Unable to prepare project for publishing. The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (Error code -50) imovie 09 v8.0.6

When I try to export the movie I get this error code. Im doing a music video and have put days into it and now I can not get it to export! My other small project export with no problem.

Thanks for the details.  We have a similar problem (see my post below) and are in the process of adding back each clip and then testing for export.  My question is, once iMovie is unable to export the project, does it render the file "bad" and prevent exporting even if you remove the "poisned" clip(s)?
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Hello,  We are having a similar problem running iMovie '09.  We get the exact same error as you reported.
"Unable to prepare project for publishing" The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred (-50)
We have a very similar situation were we have multiple repeated clips.  However, our clips are 2.4 's.  Like you, we took the finished project and started eliminating edits that we thought might be preventing it from exporting. The following actions still would not allow the project to export:
    removing title pages
    removing transitions
    removing imported music from iTunes
removed another clip from another event
    closed all other programs
closed iMovie, powered off computer, opened iMovie, tried to export
reconfirmed the last project exported would still export - it did without issueThe only difference between the project that will export and the one that does not are these short (2.4's) repeating clips
When we create the new project from the recorded event without making any edits (just as recorded), it exports without issue.  We have started the arduous task of adding back in each edit and testing it for export until we determine which edit is causing it to "not export".  This is a very inefficient way of troubleshooting.
This is a science project for my son and we need to be able to save it as a QT or mpeg4 movie so that he can submit it to his teacher for viewing and a grade!
Any ideas from any other users would be greatly appreciated.

  • I try to export my Imovie and I always get the error code"Unable to prepare project for publishing...File already open with write permission"  it even does it when I am just trying to export to my external hard drive to save the file

I try to export my Imovie and I always get the error code"Unable to prepare project for publishing...File already open with write permission"  it even does it when I am just trying to export to my external hard drive to save the file

Thanks!!! I had same error (with -49) and the mac had an external hard drive attached.. and it was doing a backup.  Stopped, disconnected and the project exported!

  • I can't convert an imovie project.  error code =-50.  How can I create a DVD?

I can't export my imovie project.  I am getting error code =-50.  I am unable to burn to a DVD for presentaion.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance for your help!  Stefan

There may be more than one cause for this error, but in most cases the project to be published includes short clips of less than about 1.5 seconds duration.
Duplicate the project. From the duplicate, delete the short clips and try to publish. If that doesn't solve the problem, see the post by Didorx in the thread linked below:
ERROR -50 ... IMOVIE EXPORTING...: Apple Support Communities

  • How do I export from IMovie when "not enough room in Heap Zone" error code appears?   How can I correct,  what to Do.."export movie" insteand of Media browser or IDVD?  Finalize movie?  I want to burn it to DVD!

How do I export from IMovie to Wondershare Creator to Make DVD and share hour long movie when I am unable to "publish" movie on Media Browser of IDVD because the error code "not enough room in heap Zone/ " appears and function is aborted.
I shortened the movie, that is no cure...Correcting date info on clips does not pertain.  Why would Apple throw roadblocks in your way without solving problems they create?
A techie made an appointment on the phone and was totally incapable of addressing the problem.
    What is a heap zone????

Instead of Share to Media Browser, what happens if you try Share Menu > Export Movie... (choose Large size) and save it to the Desktop?
If that fails try Share Menu > Export using QuickTime...
Then pick Movie to QuickTime Movie, then click on Options... which is just to the right of Export
Under the Video section click on Settings...
Then in the pulldown menu at the top, titled Compression Type: Choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Then click OK. And click OK again, and save it to the desktop. Once the .mov file is created, you can import that into iDVD and most likely it will work in Wondershare Creator if you prefer to use that instead.

  • IMovie error code (-50) when exporting video

iMovie 09 suddenly started to generate the following error when sharing/exporting video:
The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-50)
Exporting using Quick Time option from the Share menu works. The other options fail with the error.
    OS is 10.7.3.
For what is worth, I have uninstalled DivX recently.
Any idea how to troubleshoot this?
    Thank you!

I am having the same problem i have osx 10.7.2 and i get the error code 50 and the error code 8003  what can be done. support treats you like your oblivious to computers and know nothing.  First macbook but not first download or computer.  When using Microsoft systems you download and play so what gives here if this platform is suppose to be the best

  • What is iMovie error code -49? I get when I try to share my edited video in 720p with i tunes.

I edited a homevideo on my new mac Book pro 15-inch. When I tried to share in 720p with iTunes I get a message that says it can't prepare it and gives error code -49. Does anyone know what that means? I have abour 90 GB disc space, so that can't be the problem.

    Hey,
A lot of times iMovie does that when you are trying to prepare a large file. Try to do the same thing in to iTunes as a Mobile or a Medium file and see if it exports fine?

  • IMovie Error Code -49

    Hello
I am running iMovie version 9. I have literally just spent hours and hours over the past year making a video of my son's first year. It's taken a lot of blood, sweat and tears and now when I try to finalise the project it finalises for a few hours (says it will take 7 in total) and then abruptly stops and error code -49 appears.
    Can anyone please assist?
    TIA
    Bek

    I am very grateful!
    Yes, it's work! I'm happy!!!
No more any errors code for all resolutions.
I tested for for iPhone, 720p and 1080p too!

  • Using iMovie, the error code -50 keeps appearing when trying to export my video, what does this mean?

Using imovie, I am trying to export a movie however it keeps flashing error code -50 every time I try.  Doesn anyone know what this error means and how I can correct the problem?

Hi, one thing I discovered was that this error message was being given whenever I tried to export the project into iTunes as a Large file. When I tried to do the same thing in to iTunes as a Mobile or a Medium file it exported fine.
I tried a workaround which was to recompile the movie again by capturing the video as one file and the audio as another file and then to import them both in to iMovie and combine them as a new project.
Once this was done, I successfully exported the new project in to iTunes (using the HD format option!).
I used Quick Time to create both the screen capture and the audio for the above workaround.
The result was that the file was still a very good quality movie. Perhaps not as good as if iMovie had worked properly, nevertheless, it removed my frustration.
Furthermore, given that the Medium format movie exported ok, even that could be used to share on other social networking sites such as YouTube.
    Hope that helps.

  • IMovie error code (-50)

I am trying to export a project to a DVD and I get the message, unable to process project, error code (-50).  Can anyone help?

I cant believe this is happening, soooo frustrating!!!!   I put about 24 hours into a project, exported it 3 times throughout, just to see the progress outside of imovie, finally finished the project and now error code -50 wont leave me alone!!!  AND, on top of that, at the very end of the movie, some random sped up audio plays for a couple seconds, ***!?!?  And yes, I strayed from the defaults in regards to the clip speed, but to me, using the defaults isnt a solution.  The movie is complete, edits all match with music perfectly(almost), If I change just one of em then the rest is screwed  If thats the best solution, then its as good as none, cuz either way it looks like ill have to start over.  How can we not just get a straight answer, what the **** is error code -50?!?!?  Does apple think that there are people out there that go "oh, error code -50, no prob...  fixed!!"  What good is knowing the code if theres no description???   Sorry, blowin steam...  Being a music producer, ive been a loyal Mac man for many years, Logic Pro my software of choice, but past month or so, Post Snow Leopard, its been problem after problem.  I just wanna finish my movie Apple!!!  I paid you every last cent for the products, Ive held up my end of the bargain, where u at??????

  • -49 error code on iMovie. How can I fix it?

I tried to add an iMovie project to a iDVD. But I always get the message with the error code -49. I read that it has to do with the time machine. But I do not know what I have to do to fix it. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thank you   Fraenzi

    • Delete iMovie pref. file
    iMovie pref. file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    com.apple.iMovie9.plist
    com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter: chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )
    or - do like this.
On the Finder window at the top left of the screen,
Hold down the Option key and clicked on Go.
This allowed You to see the Library folder and select it.
Then keep the Option button pressed down in order to see and select the Library folder.
Once found it, You are able to navigate to the iMovie preferences file and move it to the trash.  iMovie then start’s up fine!
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
    • iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
    • Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
    • Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
    • a codec is used that doesn't work
    • problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
    • version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
    • preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
    • other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
    • External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
    • USB-flash-memories do not work
    • Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
    • iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
    • free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
    • external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
    • GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
    • Screen must be set to million-colors
    • Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
    • Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
    • Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
    • Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
    • In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
    buenrodri wrote
I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it

  • Imovie: Can't make external back-ups. Keep getting error code -36

Hope someone can help. I'm trying to make back-up copies of my movies by saving them to an external harddrive. However each movie gets to a certain stage and the stops with the message 'error code -36'. I've tried two different drives and both ubs and firewire connections but still no luck. What's really odd is that I had no problems until recently with the same drive. I suspect there is something wrong with the drivers for the ports - but how do you reinstall them? I only have the system back-up disc.
    Any suggestions gratefully received!!

Its the Iomega Ultramax drive that Apple sells and comes pre-formatted. Also I dont think that's the problem as it used to work, but not any more. It's still possible to back-up photos - its just movies it doesnt like. it gets to the same clip each time and up pops the error code. Have checked the clip and its just video footage nothing more. Have reinstalled the operating system but has made no difference.
