(Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer) on all sites

I am getting the 'This Connection is Untrusted' page with this error message, (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer), on ALL of my regular websites when I go to log-in.

For reference to anyone in the future who might have this problem - I am using BitDefender security software and had to turn off the 'Scan SSL' option under the privacy settings to fix the issue.

I am working with Firefox 35.0 I get the security certificate error message of site name) uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer).
This happens on each page that I go to. I can pull the page up with no problem with Explorer. Please Help. I don't have any security software that would be stopping or scanning SSL.

Check the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
Check out why the site is untrusted and click "Technical Details" to expand this section.
If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the <b>issuer of the certificate</b>.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If <b>"I Understand the Risks"</b> is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
*Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.
*Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate.

  • This connection is untrusted with Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer.

    Hello,
When I try to open G-Mail & twitter and some other trusted websites, I got the following warning "This Connection is Untrusted" with Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer.
For most of the site, I can bypass by clicking « I understand the risk » but this is a bummer but for Gmail and Twitter, there is no other button than "Get me out of here"
When I go through « about:support » and « reinitialise » system, I no longer have the problem, but not only it erases all my personnal set-up but the problem always come back when I restart my system
Date and time are set right.
I have also tried to reinstall completely FIREFOX to no avail
I am using McAfee Total protection 2014 & Firefox 31.0 on Windows 7 64 bits.
I have had this problem for the last 5 days and only Firefox.
Other Browser ( IE8.0) is working fine
I have searched for solutions but they all failed -
Deleting cert8.db did not solve the problem either
How do I solve this Problem?
    Thanks and Regards

  • I try to go to Google and get Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer

I try to bring up Google and get this message:
    This Connection is Untrusted
You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.google.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.
Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.
    What Should I Do?
If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.
www.google.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)
I'm on a brand new computer. All I've loaded is Kaspersky Internet Security. This problem is *very* frustrating and annoying.
Yes, I tried deleting the cert8 file and restarting Firefox. Same problem.
    Help!!!

And again, even when I exit the Kaspersky anti-virus software, I still get the error message. That does make it seem like the problem must be with the new release of Firefox (maybe in conjunction with Windows 8.1?), not with the anti-virus software.
Like Lydia, I really don't want to get into the business of just adding dozens of exceptions. That would seem to defeat the point of whatever security protection Firefox is trying to provide.

hello ntbinkle, the issue with missing intermediary certificates ideally has to be solved by the server in question by properly implementing a certificate chain, linking the ssl-certificate for the url to the root certificate authority.
as a workaround, you might be able to manually import the missing intermediary certificate - therefore please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page under ''i understand the risks'' & inspect the certificate (see the screenshot attached for instructions):
which '''issuer information''' does the certificate contain?

hello nitin2joy, the "add exception"-button is not accessible on framed pages for security purposes (to avoid phishing/impersonating by malicious sites).
in case the page you're trying to access is embedded in an iframe, right-click the error page, click on "this frame" > "show only this frame" and hopefully you can add an exception in the next step. this should only be necessary once if you choose to permanently store the exception.

    Hi,
I'm unable to install any kind of update. The install finishes with the following message : Unknown error code 80070308.
My system info is as follows:
OS: win7 Pro 32-bit, downloaded from ms website
    Processor: AMD Athlon XP2400+ @ 2.66 GHz
    RAM: 1GB
I already saw this similar topic "VPC7 install failure: Prior to restart " but there is no solution.
    Thanks !

    Hi Deguich,
Generally, the Windows Update issue can be caused by one of the following factors:
    1. The Windows Update service has been stopped.
    2. Corrupted Windows Update Temporary folder.
In order to narrow down the cause of this issue and resolve it, I suggest you refer to the following steps. After finishing each step, you can check the result again.
NOTE: Some third party programs can affect the Windows Update service. If you are running any third party applications such as Spyblocker, Internet or web accelerators (programs designed to boost the speed of the Internet connection), security or anti-virus programs (Norton, McAfee, etc.), I recommend we temporarily disable or shut them down and then try accessing Windows Update later. Please understand that we are disabling these programs only for the purpose of troubleshooting and we can re-enable these programs after we finish troubleshooting.
Step 1: Verify the relevant Windows Update services
    ================================
    1. Click the "Start" Button, in “Search" bar, type: "services.msc" (without quotes) and press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. Double click the service "Windows Update".
    3. Click on the "General" tab; make sure the "Startup Type" is "Automatic" or "Manual". Then please click the "Start" button under "Service Status" to start the service.
    4. Please repeat the above steps with the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" service.
You can also temporarily stop these services, restart the computer, and then start these services again. If any service is missing or cannot be stopped or restarted, please let me know.
Step 2: Rename the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder
    ================================
This problem may occur if the Windows Update Software distribution folder has been corrupted. We can refer to the following steps to rename this folder. Please note that the folder will be re-created the next time we visit the Windows Update site.
    1. Close all the open windows.
    2. Click the "Start" Button, click "All programs", and click "Accessories".
    3. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator".
    4. In "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type in "net stop WuAuServ" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was successfully stopped before we try to rename the folder. However, if it fails, please let me know before performing any further steps and include any error messages you may have received when it failed.
    5. Click the Start Button, in the “Search" bar, type in "%windir%" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
    6. In the opened folder, look for the folder named "SoftwareDistribution".
    7. Right-click on the folder, select Rename and type "SDold" (without the quotes) to rename this folder.
    8. While still in the "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type the command "net start WuAuServ" (without the quotes) in the opened window to restart the Windows Updates service.
Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was successfully started. However, if it failed, please let me know before performing any further steps and include any error messages you may have received when it failed.
If the issue persists, would you please upload the following information to SkyDrive and provide us the link for analyzing?
    How to capture a screenshot
    ================================
    1. Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard.
    2. Click the "Start" Button, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter.
    3. In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste". Then click the "File" menu, and click "Save".
    4. The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot".
    5. Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click "Desktop" on the left pane and then click "Save".
How to collect the System Information
    ================================
The System Information can provide us with more information about the current status of the system. I would like to check it for you. Please send it to me using the following steps:
    1. Click the "Start" Button, type "MSINFO32" in the Search Bar and press Enter to start System Information.
    2. On the popup window, on the menu bar, click "File", and click "Save", type a file name and then choose NFO as "Save as type", click "Desktop" on the left pane, and click Save.
How to collect the WindowsUpdate.log file
    ================================
    1. Click the "Start" Button, type "WindowsUpdate.log" (without the quotes) in the Search Bar and Press Enter. We will see a file named "WindowsUpdate.log"
    2. Now click on the "File" menu and then click on the "Save As".
    3. From the left panel, click "Desktop" and click the Save button.

  • Error code -600 and all applications quiting unexpectedly

Hi all I need your help!?! I'm having a problem launching my programs. When I click or double click on a program, it will launch but will then immediately give an error saying "the application _________ quit unexpectedly." This is happening with all of the programs on my computer.
Second problems is with my files. I'm getting an error code -600 when opening up a file. That includes jpg. and doc.
    Please Help

    Hi,
2.5GB is dangerously low. I'd guess you have a 40GB drive, so you should try to keep at least 8-10GB free, which you can determine easily in the bottom of any Finder window. The maxed disc space could be causing problems to your system like sluggishness, but I doubt it is causing all your apps to quit unexpectedly. That is probably more related to some kind of directory corruption. So, what do you do? Usually when apps start crashing unexpectedly the first step is to delete the preference file for the offending app. The preference file look like this, apple.com.iphoto.plist. All the preference files are in the same pattern, it's only the name of the app that changes. You'll find them at <hard drive/library/preferences< or you can just search the individual app preferences in the search box of the Finder window. Try deleting one or two for offending apps and see if they still crash. Also, because your directory is a bit funky you should run a maintenance app like Onyx. Install it and run Maintenance. It should sort out the directory issues to get your machine running again. Try these and post back with your results.
I also noticed your profile states 10.4.1. You should update to 10.4.11.
    Onyx - <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html
Make sure you get the right version for your OS.

  • TS3694 When i plug in my Iphone to restore it, itunes gives me error code 2009. All i have on my iPhone display is the itunes logo and the usb cable.

When i plug in my iPhone to itunes so i could restore because i found it, itunes gives me error code 2009. on my iPhone, all that is displayed on the screen is the itunes logo and a usb cable saying to connect it to itunes. Help please?

    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software.

  • Error code 9, tried all troubleshooting steps, no luck.

I, very recently, got a 32Gb iPhone 4 direct from Apple. When I first set it up all was fine, however the next day it was frozen when I woke up. This happened again this morning so I decided to do a restore to try and fix it.
After waiting an hour of the OS to download the restore failed with an error code 9.
To try and fix this, I have been through each step in the troubleshooting guide here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275 as well as speaking to an Apple tech on the phone.
After going through each of the steps with the tech, he agreed that the device will probably need to be replaced, however I can't get an appointment at a store until next weekend. Since I'm not really happy about a week without a phone, I thought I'd come on here and see if any has any other ideas about what I might be able to do to fix it.
Please don't repeat any steps that are the on troubleshooting page, I have tried them all.
Failing that, is it possible to move my appointment forward since it's a fairly simple request to replace the phone on the spot.
    Thanks

I will do that if it comes to it. It's just not very easy for me to get to one. Was hoping there would be something that I have not tried. Thanks lllaass!
