Error Code When Burning (Power calibration area error. (0x73, 0x03.)

I've been searching for answers to my problem and it seems like this problem has randomly popped up for many others like it has for me.
A month ago I randomly started getting this error code Power calibration area error. (0x73, 0x03.) when I tried to burn dvds in DVD Studio Pro. When I try to burn a DVD just from the finder options I get this error Code (Error code 0x8002006D)
But CD's burn fine for me.
I have been using the exact same discs that were able to burn before. They are 16x speed Memorex.
I tried relaunching the finder. I bought a Disc Cleaner today and i bought some 8x speed DVD's. I cleaned the Burner and I was able to successfully burn a 8x cd but still not the 16x.
Does anyone know the cause of this error code? Why would it just randomly happen?

  • Power calibration area error. (0x73, 0x03.) for my DVD burner

My dvd drive was working just fine then the other day I went to burn a dvd using idvd studio pro (like I always do) and it started burning, then about 2 minutes into the burn I got an error message stating that the burn failed due to a "Power calibration area error. (0x73, 0x03.)" then th disk just spit out of the drive. I dont know what this is or how to fix it. can anyone help??

    Welcome to the discussions!
Usually this pops up when your drive does not like the disk itself. Try either a different blank or a different brand disk.
I use only TDK and Fuji disks and I have never received that error and never burned a bad disk either.

I have also tried TDK, Maxell, Verbatim and Sony media
Me too. Out of that list the only brand that has NEVER produced a coaster (on the same burner as yours) is Verbatim DVD-R and Fuji DVD-R. All the others produced a 25-50% failure rate.
Have you tried burning at a slower speed?
Using 16x DVD media is fine - in fact it is difficult to buy any other - but there is a consensus in the Apple Support Forums that a slower burn is a better burn i.e. 2x or 4x (slow burns are better burns!). I always use Toast for burning.
The term "Best" means the fastest speed that the drive told Toast it can write to a specific disc. The drive's firmware and info on the disc decide what speed burns are available. When you press the speed setting button in Toast (after inserting a disc) you'll likely see some speeds in italics and some in bold face. The ones in bold face are supported by that media on that drive. The fastest one is what Toast calls Best.
Audio CDs in particular should be burned at the lowest supported speed.
Verification is a good indicator the disc is burned okay. However, other DVD players can still have problems with the disc. Media problems with various drives is not uncommon. Slower burning may reduce the chance of those problems, and is one of the reasons why RW (read/write) media is always rated slower than DVD-R.
There are some interesting facts here:
    http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa4.htm and here:
    http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa4.htm
But many will tell you that the 'slower burn is best' theory is outdated. Who really knows? At the end of the day, if your home-made DVD was verified by Toast and will play anywhere on anybody's DVD player, then that is the result we are all after!

  • Power calibration area error??

    hello,
I was having this "The recording device reported the media error: Power calibration area error. (0x73, 0x03.)" error message continually show up when attempting to burn a dvd project through dvd sp 4. I made the menu in motion 2 and two videos edited through FCP 5.
Does anyone have any advice to help me get past this. Project is due tomorrow morning.
    ~Ray

    Hi:
You can try a different burning workflow. You can build a disc image of your project from DVDSP and burn it using Disk Utility and/or Toast:: Creating Disc Image in DVDSP. DVDSP uses to be more sensitive to media than the other options.
That said, you must know that as general rule, video DVD-R and more compatible with standalone DVD players than DVD+R. That means that you can find some "older" players than can refuse to play DVD+R discs.
Besides that probably DVDSP don't like your DVD+R media. What media brand are you using? Visit this link to learn about quality media: Media Brand vs. Manufatrurer Brand.
    Hope that helps !

  • IDVD5 and Power Calibration Area Error

In an effort to burn a Maxell DVD-R from iDVD, I receive the following error message just as the burn process completes:
The recording device reported the media error: Power calibration area error. (0x73, 0x03.)
    1) I visited the Apple Store and the genius ordered and installed a new dvd burner
    2) The new burner has the exact same error
    3) I've search around the internet and realize that I'm not alone. Aparently many have seen iDVD show this error with one unusual means to fix the error. One fix was to burn the image to an external drive and then use the disk utility to burn the dvd. Apparently the issues seemed to be iDVD.
    4) I've burned many DVDs with the same project to the same brand of DVD-R in the exact same manor that I tried here.
    5) I have iDVD 5.0.1, a new Powerbook 15", and OS X 10.4.2.

I still have the same problem with iDVD 5, Toast 7 Platinum, DVDSP, and even recording my project into a .img file and using Disk Utility, so I don't think the problem is related to a particular app, but to Mac OS X, and not even a hardware or media problem as I've previously used this brand to burn like 50 DVDs without problems (Verbatim DVD-R) and in two days I've had like 15 coasters with this project with both Verbatim and Samsung DVD-Rs.
    Here is the error log:
iDVD: Burn started, Fri Dec 30 20:38:24 2005
iDVD: Burning to DVD-R media with DAO strategy in PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104 X227 via ATAPI.
iDVD: Requested burn speed was 1x, actual burn speed is 1x.
iDVD: Burn underrun protection is supported, and enabled.
iDVD: Write (10), block: 768, count: 64 -> 3/0C/00 Medium Error, Write error
iDVD: Burn failed, Fri Dec 30 20:39:56 2005
iDVD: Burn sense: 3/0C/00 Medium Error, Write error
iDVD: Burn error: 0x8002006E The burn failed because of a medium write error.

  • Power calibration area error (0x73, 0x03.) ??? HELP!

At the beginning of iDVD writing the lead-in on a burn, I am encountering “errors were found during the burning process”.
The explanation is- “The recording device reported the media error: Power calibration area error. (0x73, 0x03.)”
Then I get a second window that reads- “MULTIPLEXER ERROR - There was a problem during multiplexing/burning.”
    Can anyone answer this problem?

    Hi Jeff
Power Calibration area error in iDVD
    Try:
    - Clening lens with a Cleaning CD/DVD
    - Change brand of DVD disks to eg: Verbatim DVD-R (I use this with good result)
    1. Make a disk image in iDVD then use this and
    2. burn with Apple Disk util tool or if You have Roxio Toast™ AND
    3. at an as slow speed as possibly eg: x1 or x2 or x4

  • I get an error code when burning a movie to DVD

I use Premiere Elements 10 in my iMac OS lion vers. 10.7.2
I have 250 Gb free on my hard disc. The movie I try to burn is between 3-4 Gb
When starting to burn my movie to a DVD the following is seen in order on the screen:
    Encoding Menu 2 of 2
    Computing Media
    Burning disks 1 of 1
and then it burns (at the end pretty quickly) to 99% and stay there.
    I get an error code:
    Internal software error: /Users/labuser/premiere/elements/molecules/pre10-bullseye/molecule-17/External/AuthorScri pt/Source/DVDCreator/FormatLib/Ma.....
When I look on the DVD, it looks like nothing has been burnt to the DVD.
    What can be wrong?
    gardie10

I still have trouble with burning my movies to DVD.
    Have tried the following:
Found that I had "-" in many of my file names (clips). I removed them from the file names, but this had no effect.
I moved my entire project folder to a shorter path folder. This had no effect.
I have not managed to find blank DVDs on sale here in Gothenburg, but will try to buy them online.
I have four movies that I want to burn on DVD discs.
Have succeeded in burning two of them.
I've tried to find what distinguishes between the two that are OK and the two that I have not succeeded with. They are all at about the same size, about 27-29 minutes long.
The clips are .m2ts and .mts files.
In one of the movies that are OK, all the clips are .m2ts files. In the second movie (that is OK), most of the clips are .m2ts files, but also there are .mts files.
In the other two movies that are not OK, it's a mix of .m2ts and .mts files.
When I try to burn the two movies which failed, I get the same course as I showed earlier (with an error code).
I must admit that I was wrong when I previously wrote that I could burn all the movies to my hard drive. The ones I can not burn to DVD, I can not burn to my hard drive.

  • Error message 0X80020022 error code when burning CD.

Does anyone have any idea what this error message is? I was trying to burn a DVD on X8 speed...
If anyone could help I would appreciate it!
    Thanks
    Kris

I believe it's a hardware issue anthough don't quote me on that as I'm not sure. I would call AppleCare with this error code. They'll know for sure. I would also try burning to a differnet brand media to ensure it's not a media issue. I would suggest you try Verbatim DVD-Rs.

  • Power calibration area error (0x73,0x03) when I attempt to burn DVD

I have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-106D burner in G% PowerMac purchased in December 2004. It will burn CD's using Toast but it won't even complete asset encoding when attempting to burn DVD's using either DVD Studio Pro or iDVD. Anyone ever seen this error message before? If so, what did you do to fix the problem?
Thanks for whatever help you can give,
    Roger Legel

yes, I got this error about a year ago, and so I was told to change the media that you use to burn. I was using RiDATA DVD-R's, and they worked for a year or so, then they stopped working and I would get the error, so I changed over to a different DVD-R, I believe Tyundens, unsure though, and they worked for about a year, and now they no longer work anymore, and I am getting issues with them. They work when I burn small 5 minute projects, but anything larger than that, it gives me the error.
SO my question is this? Do I have to keep on changing on what DVD-R's I use every year because the DVD burner is that picky????
I need the problem to be fixed as well!!!

  • Error code when burning a DVD

When attempting to burn photos to a DVD, I get the errror code ox8002006e. What does this mean and what do I do?

Possibly an issue with your optical drive.
    Are you still under warranty?
    Have you tried other media?
    Have you tried slower speeds?

    Hello,
i'm trying to burn apple media dvd on my idvd project.
The burner is Pioneer DVR-104, and i get that massage:calibration area error 0x73, 0x03.

power calibration error means either your have a burner problem or you have poor media.
Apple media should be OK. What is the rated burn speed of the media you have?

  • I am getting a "-50" error code when I try to sync. Help please.

What do I do to correct a "-50" error code when I try to sync?

    Hi there patsea,
You may find the troubleshooting steps in the article below helpful.
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
Try a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. An incorrectly set default packet size can cause this error. Contact the software manufacturer that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows:How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
