Error communicating Labview with Fieldpoint hardware

Hi,
I run Labview in conjunction with the Fieldpoint hardware. Upon reinstalling the labview program after a computer crash, I am no longer able to re-establish the communication with the Fieldpoint hardware. It seems to be a driver problem but I am not able to pin point exactly the problem. This is the error message when the software "SHIME" was run:
Error 7 occurred at Open File+.vi: Open File.
Possible reasons:
LABVIW: file not found. Or
NI-488: non-existent board.
I greatly appreciate any suggestions for trouble shooting.
Sincerely,
Trisna

Hi Aaron,
thanks for the advice. In fact I was just trouble shooting the problem with an advisor/technician from National Instruments and he confirmed the same thing that there is no problem between the communication of the computer and Fieldpoint. It is more of the problem with the software itself. I am running a software called "SHIME" that stands for simulated human intestinal microbial ecosystem but I couldn't locate any open.vi or auto.vi file on the CD; you mentioned looking for something in the software.
I am communicating with the people who sold us the SHIME system and I appreciate your advice.
Sincerely,
Trisna

  • LabVIEW with Siemens hardware communication

    My application has Siemens AC Drive with Siemens PC CP5613 card being provided. Communication with the drive is thru' Profibus with LabVIEW. Does LabVIEW have a direct interface to communicate with Siemens CPS5613 card.

    Hi!
    No, unfortunately direct communication between LabVIEW and this card is impossible. (Theoretically you can looking for examples, which delivered with this card and calling DLLs for accessing, r/w Dual-Port RAM and so on, directly from LabVIEW, or over DLL-wrapper, but this not very easy). So, better way - using OPC server, which normally delivered with this card. Over OPC you can get access to Profibus. You can use OPC.SimaticNET server, or OPC.SimaticNET.DP (inline) server. Better way - using over LabVIEW DSC, but you can also to get acces over DataSocket without DSC (if you have not more than 30 items for reading and writing)

  • Program crashes when communicating GPIB with a Ruska 6610

    We running a simple vi that is controlling and reading data from a Ruska 6610.  We have recently upgraded our computers (operating system Window 7) and software to LabVIEW 2009.  When we run the vi or executable, the program crashes for no apparent reason (when I trace the program it appears to be in the GPIB Write).  I have to restart the computer and run Measurement & Automation before the program will run.  Any ideas?

    Hi momof4,
    I had a few follow up questions to ask you about this issue. First, how are you connecting the GPIB device to the computer? Also, can you post a screenshot of the error that you are getting?

  • Timeout error with fieldpoint in Labview 7.0

    I'm totally new to Labview and fieldpoint. I have Labview 7.0, with Fieldpoint 5.0 installed with updates for Labview 7 installed only, MAX 4.0. Configured my comms module fp1000 to com 2 on Pc all seems OK, and finds all my I/O modules. Only got 1 channel connected on a fp_rtd_124, and can read a temperature. Randomly I keep getting timeout error when using Labview (simple Vi setup to read temperature) or using MAX  and the "Start" icon. Can anyone advise on possible causes.
    Also in my playing around today, I was creating my iak file using Fieldpoint Explorer 3.0.2 but since updating to Fieldpoint 5 & MAX 4, it seems to have deleted the Fieldpoint Explorer. Do I need to reinstall explorer or can I use MAX to do all the iak configs.
    Finally how do i link my iak file (electrical units) to a scale file in the VI, so I can read engineering units. I see MAX has the scaling function, but where do I link them together.
    If I'm approaching this in totally the wrong way, please advise
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Adrian
    With regards to your LabVIEW program, would it be possible to send in your code and I will have a quick look at it. With regards to the time out error, do you receive an error code of some sort, this will help me in distinguising what is causing this error.
    Within MAX you can now save your iak file configs and then you can point LabVIEW towards the file that you saved. You do not need to install Fieldpoint Explorer.

  • Could you pls expalin me how to solve visa error 1073807246, I am serial communication with the hardware. thanks

    Hardware :- light modulator

    Here is the definition of the error from LabView:
    "VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF0072) The resource is valid, but VISA cannot currently access it"
    Are you able to communicate with the hardware manually using a sw like "HyperTerminal"? If so, configure the serial port setting to the same as that to communicate manually.
    It appears that you are using a valid comm port, but it cannot talk to the hardware for some reason. It could be as simple as a bad connection (wiring / soldering / etc) to the hardware.
    The first thing I would check is the ability to communicate manually. If it works manually and you duplicate the settings, it should work. If you can;t communicate manually, then you'll have to do some troubleshooting..

  • Fieldpoint Hardware Drivers that are compatible with LV 8.5 and Windows Vista

    I trying to develop in LabVIEW for some Fieldpoint hardware. I was going to download the hardware drivers from NI, but only see drivers that are compatible with Windows XP and LV 8.2
    Or, am I just misinterpreting this?
    Also, are there any potential conflicts with me developing on Vista, if my end-user, is uding another OS?
    Daddy-O
    One should welcome adversity as an opportunity to excel.

    Hi Daddy-O,
    Thank you for contacting National Instruments.  This is a little misleading, and unfortunately the driver you are looking for is currently not directly searchable.  In order to use your FieldPoint hardware with LabVIEW 8.5 and Windows Vista, you will need the FieldPoint 6.0 driver.  This can be found within the disk that is distributed with new FieldPoint hardware, and any Device Drivers CD from August 2007 forward.  Unfortunately, a standalone installer is not available for this driver, and if you do not have a hard copy of the Device Drivers, you can download this here.  From this installer, you should be able to select FieldPoint 6.0 and install this software.
    I hope this helps!  Let me know if there is anything else I can clarify.  Have a great day!

    Error 1 or -1
    This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
    If you disabled yuor computer's security software then that indicates a hardware problem,

  • Getting errors and LabView with ARM project won't compile

    Hello there, I am currently turning to make a project run on a STM32f103C8 chip using LabView with ARM. I am currently trying to compile a ARM project but I have no been successful.
    I have tried using the STM32F10x template uploaded by Joshua, and it tries to compile. At first I was getting the "stm32f10x_tim1.c" file missing error, but that was solved by downloading the file from firmware v1 and adding it to the includes folder. but now i am getting a new error saying "profile_timer.h" is missing.
    I am using:
    Windows 7
    LabView 2010 evaluation

    and I am trying to compile a empty project

  • I get EDVR error when I communicate (from Labview )through Keithley's KPCI488 GPIB card to a HP34401A DMM?

    I have installed the card correctly and used the trtest.exe program supplied alongwith the card to communicate with the DMM using *IDN?,READ?. Successful!! But I am unable to communicate from Labview 6i using labview<->gpib.vi. What to be done to get things right?

    This question was recently asked so I know that Keithley is supposed to support LabVIEW and that you have to explicitly add the support when you install the Keithley driver. If you've done this, you might want to contact Keithley for additional help. You could also try using VISA instead of the older traditional GPIB functions. That's assuming you've installed the Keithley VISA driver. I've never used the Keithley GPIB card but I've used VISA and LabVIEW with cards from other vendors.

  • Communicating with Keithley 2602A using python script

    Hi everyone,
    I want to enable communication between my PC and Keithley 2602A SourceMeter Instrument so that I can send commands to the SMI without using Test Script Builder (TSB) - a scripting/remote controlling program that enables communication between itself and the host computer.
    The reason why I want to do this is because I want to program in Python to carry out a series of tasks involving other hardwares and adjusting the voltage on the SMI at the same time. I can't use TSB to do this because TSB is solely for controlling the SMI and not other hardwares. I need to use Python scripts to consolidate all the hardware control. So far, communicating with other hardwares from my PC using Python scripts is not a problem because I have readily available libraries for them.
    I have found PyVisa which I thought could solve the communication problem. So I installed PyVisa and wrote the following code to test the communication.
    import visa
    keithley = visa.instrument("COM1")  #SMI connected to COM1
    keithley.write("smua.source.output = smua.OUTPUT_ON")  #send this command to SMI
     However, the communication was not successful as I got the error message as shown below:
    C:\Documents and Settings\cho\Desktop\Python Ex>keithley_test.py

    Can anyone tell me what went wrong? How can I control the Keithley 2602A using a Python script run from my PC?

    Hi DavItron, this is a very old thread but it's one of the top google results when I looked up info on how to implement some Python code with PyVISA to drive the Keithley 2602A so I will post this response so that other searchers can find the info.
    You can store data in named variables in the Keithely 2602A and then "print" them to the remote interface using something like the following:
    import visa
    ps = visa.Instrument("GPIB::Address of your instrument")
    ps.write("smua.source.levelv=10")
    ps.write("smua.source.output=smua.OUTPUT_ON")
    ps.write("currenta, voltagea = smua.measure.iv()")
    ps.write("smua.source.output=smua.OUTPUT_OFF")
    current = ps.ask("print(currenta)")
    voltage = ps.ask("print(voltagea)")
    For what I do which is mostly setting and measuring a bias point, then holding that while I trigger a measurement on another instrument, this is fine for me.  If you want to do  sweeps with a lot of data points it's probably more efficient to use the buffers directly, but I haven't needed that yet.
    Hope that helps somebody!

  • SPI communication protocol with LabVIEW and 6062E PCMCIA Card. Is it possible?

    Hey people. I'd like to know if it's possible to get SPI communication with 6062E card, and if there is any example of that use.
    Thank you!

    Good afternoon,
    With this hardware NI DAQCard-6062E (for PCMCIA) has inputs / outputs digital and analog, but has hardware that makes USB-8451 communication with SPI. Below is the link to the Hardware. Any questions please contact us.

  • How can I read pdf files from LabVIEW with different versions of Acrobat reader?

    How can I read pdf files from LabVIEW with different versions of Acrobat reader?
    I have made a LabVIEW program where I have possibility to read a PDF document.  When I made this LabVIEW program it was Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 that was installed on the PC. Lather when the Acrobat Reader was upgraded to version 6.0, there was an error when VI tries to launch the LabVIEW program. And Later again when we upgraded to Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 I must again do some changes and rebuild the EXE files again
    It isn't so very big job to do the changes in one single LabVIEW program, but we have built a lot of LabVIEW programs so this take time to due changes every time vi update Acrobat Reader. (We have build EXE files.)
    The job is to right click the ActiveX container and Click "Insert ActiveX Object", then I can brows the computer for the new version of acrobat Reader. After this I must rebuild all the "methods" in the Activex call to make the VI executable again.
    Is there a way to build LabVIEW program so I don't have to do this job every time we update Acrobat Reader?
    This LabVIEW program is written in LabVIEW 6.1, but I se the problem is the same in LabVIEW 8.2.

  • Error 404 causes Labview 2010 to crash but only occasionally

    Hello,
    I am requesting help to solve a problem with LabVIEW 2010 crashing.  I am new to this company and the last Labview developer left without providing
    background on this problem. Labview crashes after running project VIs. Labview closes without warning or error messages. The project acquires data from pressure transducers, dP transducers, thermocouples, IEPE, load cells, and voltages through NI real-time system and has digital I/O. NI hardware includes PXI-1050 with modules 6221, 6280, 6224, 6220 and NI PXI-1052, SCXI-1306, SCXI-1112, SCXI-1520, and SCXI-1102. I've reviewed the labview program and the software relies heavily on shared variables, references, and local variables but I cannot find anything that stands out as a problem in the software .
    The program crashed again today after running for only 1/2 hour and was not recording data. No error message occurred before the crash and the only error after restarting LabVIEW was the standard message that LabVIEW did not close properly. I went to the Event Viewer and at the time of the crash I received the following information:
    Event ID = 3299
    Source = LabVIEW
    Log = Application
    Level = Error
    LabVIEW Information: Error 404 "Not found" for "/national instruments/ real-time execution trace toolkit/ 2.0/ trace receiveport", file "Crogram files (x86)/ national instruments /shared/ ni webserver/ www/ national instruments/ real-time execution trace toolkit/ 2.0/ trace receiveport": Can't access URL
    According to Event Viewer, this error 3299 occurred 15 times in the last 3 days. LabVIEW crashed today at 10:19 am at the same time this error 3299 occurred but LabVIEW did not crash the other times this error occurred in the last 3 days. I believe this error is related to the crash but does not usually cause the crash. It appears to me from reading the error message that the error is the result of occasional lose of communication with the real-time system (Can't find URL). Any suggestions how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
    Bill

    1. Have you had this code working before on this or another machine?
    2. Which operating system and version of LabVIEW are you running? (This can be found in Control Panel >> All Control Panel Items >> System)
    3. Which National Instruments Drivers are you using? (This can be found in the measurement an automation explorer under the software tab [a screenshot would be good])
    I would look into removing afsetup.exe which is a data collection tool provided by Microsoft which could a) not be installed correctly and/or b) trying to pull data from LabVIEW.  I think this may help you out, as even though your programs aren't explicitly calling it, the service is running in the background.
    Secondly, I would look into stopping the NI Web Server application that could be polling a web page that's not needed.
