Error converting a read string to type Double.
I'm trying to read data stored in a text file, a mixture of strings and data.
Using MyReader As New FileIO.TextFieldParser(source)
Do
intSampleCnt = intSampleCnt + 1
strSample(intSampleCnt) = MyReader.ReadLine ' Reads a string like "filename.txt"
dblOggLength(intSampleCnt) = CDbl(Val(MyReader.ReadLine)) ' <= Crash occurs here. Reads a number like 9.87654321
' additional code...
Loop Until intSampleCnt = 10
End Using
Big problem: *I'm* not getting the error so I can't reproduce it. OTHER users are telling me they are getting the following error:
System.InvalidCastException: Bringing the line "0.Au" to type "Double" is invalid. ---> System.FormatException: Input string had invalid
format.
No idea where "0.Au" is coming from. It's not in my file. Originally, I simply read the line and assigned it to the dblVariable (which worked for me). When users started reporting the error, I tried using:
dblVar = CDbl(MyReader.ReadLine)
When that failed, I tried:
dblVar = CDbl(Val(MyReader.ReadLine))
I must be on the wrong track. No idea why others are getting errors but not me. Any ideas? Thx.
The first suggestion will set things up for you but you need to play with this
Another suggestion is to place the culture code as the first line in the file i.e. to get the current culture code then change how data is written to the file
System.Globalization.CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.Name
Then read the file i.e
Source text file
fr-BE
Somename 1 1000,56
AnotherName 9,99
Code
Private Sub Button1_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim FileName As String = IO.Path.Combine(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory, "France.txt")
Dim style As NumberStyles = NumberStyles.Number Or NumberStyles.AllowDecimalPoint
Dim culture As CultureInfo = CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture(IO.File.ReadAllLines(FileName)(0))
Dim number As Decimal
Using MyReader As New Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.TextFieldParser(FileName)
MyReader.TextFieldType = Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.FieldType.Delimited
MyReader.Delimiters = New String() {vbTab}
Dim currentRow As String()
While Not MyReader.EndOfData
Try
currentRow = MyReader.ReadFields()
If Not currentRow.Length = 1 Then
If Decimal.TryParse(currentRow(1), style, culture, number) Then
Console.WriteLine("Converted '{0}' to {1}", currentRow(1), number)
Else
Console.WriteLine("Unable to convert '{0}'", currentRow(1))
End If
End If
Catch ex As Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.MalformedLineException
' You decide how to handle issues
End Try
End While
End Using
End Sub
Results
Converted '1000,56' to 1000.56
Converted '9,99' to 9.99

Conversion from string "" to type 'Double' is not valid
We're using BPC 7.5 MS and on patch level 111.02
There's two front-end servers and one back-end. we have about 100 users but concurrency is likely in the 50 range.
We've been running extremely well for about 4 years but are now starting to run into problems.
There are about 5-6 applications but none greater than 10 million records. We optimize regularly.
However over the past two months admin processes seem to take a lot longer. Optimization now times out after about 1.25 hours and none used to take greater than 15 minutes.
Today after processing dimensions we checked the application status and we were not able to check if it was available or not. We got a pop up box saying
conversion from string "" to type 'Double' is not valid
I've processed dimensions and applications since and still this error persists.
We're attempting a reboot to see if that helps but I've never seen this before and in combination with the slower admin processing I'm wondering if there's something drastic going to happen.
MichaelHi Michael,
for the poor performances you have to check the guides about performance on bpc if you have scheduled regurarly optimize during day and night (just verify that never factwb reach 50.000 and fac2 500.000 records) maybe you need to change some parameter on the server as MaxThreads.
For the conversion string error on admin console see please this note 1803092 - Set application set status error

Error converting XSTRING to STRING (unicode, codepage)
Hi all,
I have a problem converting data from an external file into SAP.
The file is uploaded via an application created in web dynpro, where I use the upload functionality. This returns the file in the XSTRING format, and then use the following to convert (where l_xstring is the file and l_string is how I want the file):
l_string TYPE string,
l_xstring TYPE xstring,
convt = cl_abap_conv_in_ce=>create( input = l_xstring ).
convt->read( IMPORTING data = l_string ).
This worked perfectly - until I recieved a file containing russian characters
The SAP system (BI) is in Unicode, so this should be ok.
I get a:
CONVT_CODEPAGE
CX_SY_CONVERSION_CODEPAGE
Error, when trying to run it.
Also the following migth be helpful:
At the conversion of a text from codepage '4110' to codepage '4102':
- a character was found that cannot be displayed in one of the two
codepages;
- or it was detected that this conversion is not supported
The running ABAP program 'CL_ABAP_CONV_IN_CE============CP' had to be
terminated as the conversion
would have produced incorrect data.
The number of characters that could not be displayed (and therefore not
be converted), is 18141. If this number is 0, the second error case, as
mentioned above, has occurred.
I have tried setting the codepage parameter of the READ method, but to no success.
Anyone ??

Error converting XML to String
I'm trying to use getXMLString() to put my XML document in a String variable. I get the following when I try to output the String:
<?xml version = '1.0'?>
<ERROR>oracle.xml.sql.OracleXMLSQLException: This object has been closed. If the close() was implicit, and you would like the object not to be closed between calls, see the keepCursorAlive() method</ERROR>
If I just output the XML doc without putting it into a String variable it works fine.
System.out.println(q.getXMLString()); //OK
// get the XML document in string format
String xmlString = q.getXMLString(); //NOT OK
System.out.println(xmlString);
What am I doing wrong? Any help would be great!
Thanks,
MelaniHi,
SMUM_XML_PARSE is a simplified, unreleased and undocumented version of the powerful, released and documented iXML
If you look at the GET_ELEMENT subroutine in that function module, you'll see that the nodes of type CO_NODE_CDATA_SECTION are simply ignored.
The simpliest thing for you, maybe, is to duplicate the code of SMUM_XML_PARSE (as it is rather easy to handle), and add a section to GET_ELEMENT. You'll have also to use IF_IXML_CDATA_SECTION interface and ixml_iid_cdata_section constant.
Documentation is here: [SAP Library: Interface if_ixml_cdata_section|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/bb/576658dca511d4990b00508b6b8b11/frameset.htm ]

Hi
During my message mapping, I have to convert one String Field from Source Structure to Double ( primitive data type ) field in Target Structure.
String Weight -
Source
Double Wght -
Target
Java Code ****
<b>double Wght = Double.valueOf(Weight.trim()).doubleValue();</b>
But if I use this in UDF then it has default return type as String.
Can I change the return type in UDFs or is their any other way using which I can do this conversion.
Best Regards
- lalit chaudhary -Hi Lalita,
Please see the following code try..
static public double parseDouble(String s)
return doubleValueOf(s);
But XI always input ,output as string in MM.
is it your requirement..?

Hello,
I am working on one project and there is need to extract Sharepoint list data and import them to SQL Server table. I have few lookup columns in the list.
Steps in my Data Flow :
Sharepoint List Source
Derived Column
its formula : SUBSTRING([BusinessUnit],FINDSTRING([BusinessUnit],"#",1)+1,LEN([BusinessUnit])-FINDSTRING([BusinessUnit],"#",1))
Data Conversion
OLE DB Destination
But I am getting the error of not converting between unicode and non-unicode string data types.
I am not sure what I am missing here.
In Data Conversion, what should be the Data Type for the Look up column?
Please suggest here.
Thank you,
Mittal.You have a data conversion transformation. Now, in the destination are you assigning the results of the derived column transformation or the data conversion transformation. To avoid this error you need use the data conversion output.
You can eliminate the need for the data conversion with the following in the derived column (creating a new column):
(DT_STR,100,1252)(SUBSTRING([BusinessUnit],FINDSTRING([BusinessUnit],"#",1)+1,LEN([BusinessUnit])-FINDSTRING([BusinessUnit],"#",1)))
The 100 is the length and 1252 is the code page (I almost always use 1252) for interpreting the string.

Converting a string to the corresponding value of type double
Hey, im a really noob at this, but I need some help with this question. I've got to complete this in order to progress to my second year although im not doing programming and will not need it in the second year. The question is as follows:
"Write a method called convertDouble as follows:
public double convertDouble (String value) {
This method should convert its parameter (a string like "3.1415") to the corresponding value of type double. If the string supplied is not a valid number, it should return 0.0 as its result. Note that you can use the method Double.parseDouble() to do the hard work for you. "
To be honest I dont really have a clue what how to write this so any help would be much appreciated. Cheers guysWell the simplest way is to use Java's already inbuilt converter:
which is if you have a string S which represents a double i.e 3.142
You can use
double number = Double.parseDouble(S); and thats it.
The other way to do it is to loop through the string and check whether it is a number
by using Character.IsDigit(ch) ? or somethign similar.
and if it is a digit then subtract a fixed amount depending on its ASCII value.
so if character with a value of 40 represents 0 (im not sure if it does) then
any Digit character - 40 would give you the decimal value.
Please ask questions if i dont make sense.

How do you convert this String into a double?
Hi, in this code I want to convert String arg into a double. I'm trying to do this so that I can convert some string into a double in this calculator that I'm making. Here is the code:
public class par {
public static void main(String[] args) {
String str = "351";
double arg = new double(str); // should convert the string into a double
System.out.println(arg);
System.out.println(str);
I keep getting errors in line 4, if any of you could help me out here I'll be thankful, i'm kinda new to java and my search for java's equivalent of alof() (its a function in C libraries that converts char[] into a double)lead me to this.
Tony L.Use the Following:
String num = "123.2";
double d = Double.parseDouble(num); -
How do I convert a string to a double, a number loses the precision
I tried converting a string to a double but that limits the precision. I need to convert a string to a double.
If you use the Scan From String function, the default is to convert to a dbl. If you're looking at a front panel indicator, don't confuse the format and precision of the indicator with the type representation. You can set the indicator to display as many digits as you want but that doesn't change the actal number stored in memory.

Cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types.
I'm trying to copy the data from 21 tables in a SQL 2005 database to a MS Access database using SSIS. Before converting the SQL database from 2000 to 2005 we had this process set up as a DTS package that ran every month for years with no problem. The only way I can get it to work now is to delete all of the tables from the Access DB and have SSIS create new tables each time. But when I try to create an SSIS package using the SSIS Import and Export Wizard to copy the SQL 2005 data to the same tables that SSIS itself created in Access I get the "cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types" error message. The first few columns I hit this problem on were created by SSIS as the Memo datatype in Access and when I changed them to Text in Access they started to work. The column I'm stuck on now is defined as Text in the SQL 2005 DB and in Access, but it still gives me the "cannot convert" error.
I was getting same error while tranfering data from SQL 2005 to Excel , but using following method i was able to tranfer data. Hopefully it may also help you.
1) Using Data Conversion transformation
data types you need to select is DT_WSTR (unicode in terms of SQL: 2005)
2) derived coloumn transformation
expression you need to use is :
(DT_WSTR, 20) (note : 20 can be replace by your character size)
Note:
Above teo method create replica of your esting coloumn (default name will be copy of <coloumn name>).
while mapping data do not map actual coloumn to the destination but select the coloumn that were created by any of above data transformer (replicated coloumn). -
How to fix "cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types" :/
Environment: SQL Server 2008 R2
Introduction:Staging_table is a table where data is being stored from source file. Individual and ind_subject_scores are destination tables.
Purpose: To load the data from a source file .csv while SSIS define table fields with 50 varchar, I can still transfer the data to the entity table/ destination and keeping the table definition.
I'm getting validation error "Cannot convert between a unicode and a non-unicode string data types" for all the columns.
Please helpHi ,

Hi, I'm working on a small Windows store App project using C# + XAML, and encountered a really weird problem with data binding in XAML. The error message is:
Error: Converter failed to convert value of type 'Neptune.MyMatch, SkyNet, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' to type
'ProgressableBase'; BindingExpression: Path='' DataItem='Neptune.MyMatch, SkyNet, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'; target element is 'MyControls.ProgressableViewControl' (Name='root'); target property is 'Progressable'
(type 'ProgressableBase').
Error: Converter failed to convert value of type 'Neptune.MyMatch, SkyNet, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' to type
'IMatchWrapper'; BindingExpression: Path='' DataItem='Neptune.MyMatch, SkyNet, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'; target element is 'MyControls.MatchScoreControl' (Name='root'); target property is 'Match' (type 'IMatchWrapper').
the XAML code snippet involved is:
<local:MatchScoreControl Match="{Binding Converter={StaticResource TestConverter}}" />
here:
1) The type of the 'Match' property of 'MatchScoreControl' is 'IMatchWrapper', the type of the DataContext is 'MyMatch';
2) 'MyMatch' is derived from 'ProgressableBase' and implemented
'IMatchWrapper';
3) below is the definition of 'MatchScoreControl' and its dependency property 'Match':
public sealed partial class MatchScoreControl : UserControl
public IMatchWrapper Match
get { return (IMatchWrapper)GetValue(MatchProperty); }
set { SetValue(MatchProperty, value); }
public static readonly DependencyProperty MatchProperty =
DependencyProperty.Register("Match", typeof(IMatchWrapper), typeof(MatchScoreControl), new PropertyMetadata(null, OnMatchPropertyChanged));
private static void OnMatchPropertyChanged(DependencyObject d, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e)
// this line will never get called
Debug.WriteLine(e.NewValue.GetType().FullName);
} //more code...
4) TestConverter is a dummy value converter(IValueConverter) which does nothing just to make sure the binding object and target type is as expected:
public sealed class TestConverter : IValueConverter
public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, string language)
if (targetType != typeof(IMatchWrapper))
throw new NotImplementedException("Error: targetType is not IMatchWrapper.....");
if (!(value is IMatchWrapper))
throw new NotImplementedException("Error: value is not IMatchWrapper...");
return (IMatchWrapper)value;
public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, string language)
throw new NotImplementedException();
When I run the app, none of the two exceptions in the TestConverter.Convert() is thrown, which is right and as expected. But the out window keeps throwing the error message as above. This is pretty weird!
I've tried adding a parameterless constructor to the class 'MyMatch', but it doesn't work.
Any suggestion would be appreciated!Good to know you have the solution and thanks for sharing the experience.

Error converting data type varchar to numeric.Please follow basic Netiquette and post the DDL we need to answer this. Follow industry and ANSI/ISO standards in your data. You should follow ISO-11179 rules for naming data elements. You should follow ISO-8601 rules for displaying temporal data. We need
to know the data types, keys and constraints on the table. Avoid dialect in favor of ANSI/ISO Standard SQL. And you need to read and download the PDF for:

>> I need to select from a dynamic column name and save the result in a variable, but seem to be having trouble with the values being fed to sp_executesql <<
This is so very, very wrong! A column is an attribute of an entity. The idea that you are so screwed up that you have no idea if you want
the shoe size, the phone number or something else at run time of this entity.
In Software Engineering we have a principle called cohesion that says a model should do one and only one task, have one and only one entry point, and one and only one exit point.
Hey, on a scale from 1 to 10, what color is your favorite letter of the alphabet? Yes, your mindset is that level of sillyity and absurdity.
Do you know that SQL is a declarative language? This family of languages does not use local variables!
Now think about “month_val” and what it means. A month is a temporal unit of measurement, so this is as silly as saying “liter_val” in your code. Why did you use “sp_” on a procedure? It has special meaning in T-SQL.
Think about how silly this is:
SET @month_val = 'Month' + CAST(@month_nbr AS VARCHAR(2));
We do not do display formatting in a query. This is a violation of at the tiered architecture principle. We have a presentation layer. But more than that, the INTERVAL temporal data type is a {year-month} and never just a month. This is fundamental.
We need to see the DDL so we can re-write this mess. Want to fix it or not?

for quick fix
Link
Grab the 3 pango files, throw them somewhere, edit pangorc to corresponding paths for the 2 other files.
Start program with
export PANGO_RC_FILE="/path/to/pangorc"
program
for the string error, if its iconv
export GCONV_PATH=/opt/lib32/usr/lib/gconv
to previous command
Note, you cant start 64bit programs that use pango/iconv from the terminal you exported the variable.

Is there a way to export a movie in FCP X in a medium format 640x360
I just downloaded FCP x and edited my first footage in it, looking at the Share options I don't see a way to export a medium 640x360 movie as I did in iMovie. Is there an option or way for me to export in that size? Thanks
