Error Correction for iTunes?

When importing CDs into iTunes there is an option for Use Error Correction. There is a minimal explanation under Help as to what it does but not as to how. Does anyone know how the Error Correction process works. Is there a check against a data base comparing the rip against others to verify accuracy? Any details you can provide is appreciated.
My interest in knowing is maintaining the highest quality and most accurate iTunes library possible.

found in another discussion on another forum:
David Charlap
Don Hurter asks what "Use error correction when reading Audio CDs" does.
Audio CDs have error correction codes on the disc, so that errors (like manufacturing defects, scratches, fingerprints, and even some copy protection schemes) can often be played through without corrupting the sound.
When you rip a CD, the computer reads the raw audio data from the disc. Typically, it just reads the audio samples and ignores the error-correction codes, assuming that the data will be good. This means that if there are any errors on the disc, those errors will become defects in the sound (typically heard as pops or clicks.)
When you turn on the "use error correction" feature, iTunes will process the error correcting codes along with the audio samples, using them to correct any errors it finds. If your computer is fast enough (relative to the drive's audio-extraction speed), you won't notice a slowdown (but you may notice an increase in CPU usage.) If the computer is not that fast, using error correction will slow down the ripping.

encountered error r6034, runtime error, window error 1114 for itune 11.1.4 update. Same error msgs for when I tried to uninstall and reinstall as suggested.
pls advise if you have another solution to it... thx

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Authorization Error ( -42408 ) for iTunes / iPod

suddenly, itunes invalidated purchased tunes on ipod at the time of sync due to the use of unauthorized computer, which i've been using past years and synced the same ipod almost everyday.
then, i tried to authorize my computer by typing in UserID and password for itunes store. Then a popup displays the failure of authorization due to the unknown error (-42408).
the process below was repeated for 4 times to eliminate any possibility of human error... i repreated itunes > store > authorize computer. the password and id were confirmed to be correct by logging onto itunes store account.
the only special condition would be that the last time, i used ipod until complete exhaustion of its battery charge. nothing changed other than this. ipod was manually rebooted during the attempt to correct the above-mentioned problem. i'm completely lost about why it's happening and how to fix this...

    SOLVED !!
    i found this article: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2339866&tstart=0
    and followed this method: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
The trick was to log out and log in from the account. (i was using the admin account whole time so it's like re-log in. )
by doing that, iTunes didn't even prompt me to authorize at all.

  • Error Messages for iTunes and Quicktime, what do I do?

Hello, I'm in need of some help.
Let me walk you all through what I did for the last 4 hours:
(important note: I suck at far too much computer stuff, so I am fully aware that as you read the following, at certain points I probably made the problem much worse than it needed to be, I am not proud of this, but everything you read did happen, stupid as it probably was for me to pursue the problems in the particular way that I did. Hindsight is 20/20.)
I updated my iTunes v7.7 to v8.0 today, and after trying it out for a while decided that I didn't like it and wanted to go back to what I was using before.
So, because I didn't know what else to do, I tried to re-install the original iTunes software that came with my iPod (a 20gig classic I bought in 2004). That version of iTunes was v6.0 (again, 3 years ago).
Part way through the installation process, I got a message that said that, because I had a newer version of iTunes on the computer already, it wouldn't install the version on the disk.
So I uninstalled v8.0, restarted my computer, and installed the v6.0 from the CD-ROM I had.
It was then that I found I had NONE of the 6000+ songs in my iTunes window. I checked my computers files to find that they were still in the library, but my iTunes screen was completely devoid of all my music.
So I tried to get it all back on the player. I discovered that by right-clicking "Play" for the individual files from the folders in my iTunes that they would come up on the player, but that meant that I'd be clicking in 6000+ songs, one by one, till they were all back. I didn't want to do that.
So I tried a system restore (again, read "important note" at top of post). After that happened and I was looking at my desktop again, tried opening iTunes, and it gave me a message that said:
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
And it asks if I wanna send an error report. I decline, then try opening Quicktime. Same message. So I try to uninstall both programs (i know, i know, "important note"), and iTunes uninstalls, Quicktime does not, because, as my computer puts it, "a fatal error occurs."
But since I have iTunes uninstalled, I go to apples site and download iTunes v8.0 again. After waiting for all that to get done, I get the same error message.
So I peruse this very discussion forum, and after looking for a good while at what is being recommended I go to a site and download v7.7 again.
Again, I get the same error message.
So here I am. I've tried working it out myself for the last 4 hours, and I seem to have made things worse.
So please, please, PLEASE, I ask for any help you can provide.
Can I get my iTunes back?
    Is my Quicktime corrupted now?
    Am I totally screwed?

I had the same problem when I went to upgrade to 8 and then downgrade back to 7.7. To fix this is a little involved, but you can do it. Let me put it this way, I talked my mother through it on the phone, and she has a hard time finding the power button So no worries, I'll help you get back up and running. I am running Vista now, so I am going off of memory for Vista, so bear with me.
    I would do the following:
    1. Uninstall both iTunes and Quicktime by going to Control Panel-Add Remove Programs, and choosing first Quicktime then iTunes.
    2. Clean your registry. Easy now, it is not that hard. To do it, go to http://www.ccleaner.com/download and download CCleaner. It is free and has NO spyware. Install it and run the registry cleaner. It will remove any trace of both programs from the registry. Now you have 2 choices.
3a. Now I would install iTunes 8. Because you already installed it once, it converted its database file that it uses to track the library and play lists up to the iTunes 8 standard.
3b. If you have no problem loosing your playlists and library settings, you can go back to iTunes 7.7. To do this, first search for "itunes.ttl". To do this, go to Start-Search Files and Folders- and type in "iTunes.ttl" Once the search finishes, it will tell you where it is located. Navigate there using Windows Explorer or My Computer and delete it. Now you can install iTunes 7.7 with out any errors. You will not loose any files! just your playlists and it will not remember what is in your library.
As far as adding your songs again, did you try to re-importing your music? If you go to the file menu-add folder to library. It will bring up a dialogue box that will allow you to browse to the folder with your music.
Let me know if this works. I will help in anyway I can.
    Good Luck,

Are you running any of Symantec's (Norton) or McAfee's Internet security products or anything similar, or an antivirus/antispyware application? There have been reports that some such utilities treat an upgrade to iTunes as a new application and can block the application from running. So you have to go in and reset the utility to allow iTunes. The same thing can happen if you upgrade the security product (this has particularly been a problem with recent McAfee upgrades).
Check the settings for your utility and if necessary remove and re-enable the exception for iTunes (consult your utility's documentation for the appropriate procedure). You may also need to check the built-in Windows firewall as well.
    Hope this helps.

  • Artwork is correct for Itunes and wrong for the ipod!

All the artwork is wrong on my ipod! It's all correct on Itunes, though. I can't figure it out. For example, I pick a song by Madonna, and it shows artwork for the CD "Essential Big Bands"! BUT when I click the middle button twice on my iPod (to select the album cover view), the Artwork is correct on the large view on my ipod! But when I go back to the song title, it's wrong again. So it's the thumbnail pic on the ipod that's screwed up. Does anyone have any idea what happened and how to fix it?
    Thanks!
    Frank

Had the same problem with my 4th generation Nano. It seems it was a USB port issue. Once I put a high speed USB 2.0 port on my machine the problem seemed to go away. However, If I highlight tracks in iTunes and drag them to my iPod then, while the songs are loading, try and add more then I will get mis-matched cover art.
Best advise is make sure you have a high speed 2.0 port on your PC (You may need a powered USB port) and copy your music slowly to your iPod. Avoid adding 10 tracks by 10 different artists then dragging 4 more complete albums when the previous music hasn't compleltely loaded.
Yeah it's a pain! And I haven't quite figured out just how much music containing different artwork I can add at once. I just know it seems to happen less with complete albums, a high speed USB port, and not trying to add a lot of different music at once.
Hope that helped I know it's not much of a solution.

  • I changed to a new iphone 5, but it keeps coming up with my old Apple ID FOR iCloud sign in. My Apple ID is correct for iTunes and App Store and on my ipad. The user names stays greed out on the iCloud sign in and I can't change it.

I recently changed from my old Iphone 5 to a new one. The Apple ID that comes up when signing into iCloud is my old Apple ID, yet the correct one is shown on iTunes and apps. I can't change the Apple ID to the correct one, and am unable to restore my latest back up from icloud. I have tried everything, but I can' t change the Apple ID on the phone. It stays greed out. My Apple ID is correct on my ipad and when I log into my iCloud account via the internet. How do can I fix this?

Skip the iCloud sign in for now.
Once you reach the home page, go to settings and sign out of FaceTime and Messages.  This should also sign you out of iCloud.
Go to iCloud in settings and sign in with the correct Apple ID.
    If that does not work
    Skip the iCloud sign in
Go to Apple ID.apple.com and sign in
Change your Apple ID to the old one
Delete iCloud account on your device with the old Apple ID and the same password.
Go back to the website, change your Apple ID back to the current one. You will receive an email to verify the account. Verify first.
Sign into iCloud on your device with the correct Apple ID and password

  • Error message for itunes version 9

I can expect quite a few people have had problems with the new version of itunes, but I wonder if anybody has any other suggestions than I have already tried. I keep getting an error message come up every single time I insert a cd into the drive so that I can import music. Windows comes up with the error message and says it has to close the program. I have tried a lot to get rid of this problem, but I feel I have run out of ideas. Ive not only tried to repair and replace any damaged files, but I have uninstalled and re-installed itunes as well as any apple software, bonjour, quicktime, safari etc. Nothing seems to be working. Plus my library seems to have dropped by about 1000 songs as well which im not happy about. Ive also tried to get itunes version 8 reinstalled but unfortunately have found that as soon as i have upgraded, itunes version 9 changes certain files within your library and therefore will not downgrade back to version 8. Can anybody please help or are us people who wont pay the fortune for helpgonna have to wait for Apple to pull there finger out in their own time? Seriously this is like when windows brought out Vista. Who realistically offers a new version when there are so many problems with it?

You need iTunes 10.0 or greater to update your phone...iTunes isn't confused at all. If you're on a Mac, you'll need OS X 10.5.8 or greater to update iTunes to 10.0 or greater.

  • Error message for itunes update fail!!!

I like everyone else was getting the MSVCR80.dll missing, windows error 7 when I tried to update itunes.  I removed all Apple programs and rebooted PC.  Now when I attempt to install I get Windows error 2 message!  It should not be this hard to update itunes!!!!  All my Window 7 updates have been installed.

Now when I attempt to install I get Windows error 2 message!
With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Error message for iTunes radio

Two days ago I got this message when I tried to listen to the radio through iTunes. "An error occurred while contacting the radio tuning service. Check your internet connection, or try again later." My internet connection is fine. It still won't connect. No Norton's either.

After further listening, it can occur randomly, after commercials or songs. Always between songs/commercials though. I called iTunes support. It was tough to pinpoint the cause. After I got off the phone I decided to create a new user account on one of the computers (not a new iTunes account but a new computer user). When logged into this fresh account iTunes radio has been playing for the past two days with no issues, no interruptions. So its looking like a problem on the user account side. I am going to rebuild / reinstall iTunes from scratch on my regular user account and hopefull this will solve the problem. I'll post back here with results. Possibly this weekend.
