Error: Couldn't Mount File

I have downloaded (three or more times) the Office Professional Plus x86 .iso file from Technet so that I can try office 2013 on my computer. Every time I get an error message that tells me I cannot mount this file. Is this evidience that Technet's file
is corrupt or that my computer corrupts it during the download process? By the way, I have successfully downloaded and installed Visio 2013 and Project Professional 2013 from the same site.
Megan

@George,
I am having issues that are no doubt related to the others in this thread. I attempted to download the Office Professional 2013 60-day trial from Technet. I am currently running Windows 8.1 Pro - 64 bit. Here are the issues.
1. The lack of a 'progress bar' that is more informative than just the minimal one that is displayed in the upper left-hand corner of the downloads page:
Image Not Permitted until account is verified....
2. Although the download does indeed create a .img  file; if and when complete; there is no way for the user to check the validity of the file integrity; or any indications of any automated check of completeness or integrity(i.e. SHA1-Hash Code, etc.)
Image Not Permitted until account is verified....
3. Upon attempting to 'Mount' by right-clicking; only this error is displayed.
Image Not Permitted until account is verified....
My issues with this whole exercise are that I see each of these problems as ones that are difficult to diagnose and to correct; even for myself; let alone a 'layman end-user'. I have been a software/web developer for close to 30 years now; primarily on Microsoft
platforms. I was just about to give up when I read the other posts here and not waste any more time on this at all. However, when I read your response to @Megan; I felt compelled to comment here.
Plain and simple, this is poor programming at work! :-( ...Perhaps your developers felt that it was unnecessary to bother the 'user' with additional information like 'percentage complete' in the download. Or, even more informative data like
'number of bytes downloaded' vs. 'total file size'. They also assumed that 'stupid' users don't care about that information; and that as far verifying completeness and file integrity; that their jobs were done when it was determined the file had been completely
sent from the server. Once this process was complete; it was the 'job' of the 'end-user' to actually just 'load and run it'. These sorts of assumptions and attitudes are the reasons that more and more software fails to be acceptable to 'end-users'. Wait a
minute!! Even my use of the word 'end-user' is denigrating of the people you trying to attract to use this stuff. Get it together and stop talking and behaving like that!! Then your 'support forum' would not fill up with questions as quickly; you would be
able to diagnose issues and resolve them more quickly; and more people might actually want to try new software releases that you are responsible for.
Just one more thing; when I tried to post this; I had inserted images that showed my issues. I received a message preventing me from submitting until my account had been 'verified'. You may see the images I attempted to include here: pinterest.com/bissell0754/pins/
(don't forget this is a WWW address so it has an 'http://www.' in front of it) Are you and your programming crew too 'stupid' to realize that at this point, "pictures are worth a thousand words"?! LOL...

  • Couldn't mount file after install?

I'm trying to download a trial version of office pro 2013. It said that the download was complete, when I click on the office file (on my desktop) it says "sorry, there was a problem mounting file".  I have tried multiple times, even
followed some of the related suggestions but no luck.     If it matters, they gave me a product key, but I was never prompted to use it?

We recommend that use md5 to verify the integrity of the downloading.
Mount ISO is a new feature in Windows 8, could you mount the other ISO in your machine? If no, we may fix the issue of Unable to Mount ISO first on Windows 8 client site, here is an article may help you:

And we may also post a quesion on the

  • Preview File error - couldn't open File

I have started getting a number of error messages when I try to open some PDF files with Preview. I've received all the troublesome files by email (Mail). I get the message:
File error. Couldn't open the file.
I've tried repairing permissions etc., but the problem seems recurrent, affecting about 1/4 of the PDF files I receive.
I've just tried downloading Acrobat Reader, and that can't open the files, either. However, PC users say they can open their copies.

The only solution to corrupted files is to restore from your back up.

  • Error Warning that Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to disk, an error occurred while copying files.

I've been getting this warning on my MBA for the last week: "Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “LaCie-2big-NAS.” an error occurred while copying files. The problem may be temporary. If the problem persists, us Disk Utility to repair your backup disk."
I have MBA and iMac, both running Maverick (10.9.4), backed up to LaCie NAS. However, when I go to Disk Utility on the MBA and the iMac, the LaCie does not appear and thus can't be selected to run repair. The iMac seems to be backing up to LaCie without problem. And even seems that MBA is backing up sometimes; when I check Time Machine, I can find files added in the last couple of days.
Is this a real problem? What's fix?
    Thanks

You can't repair a network volume in Disk Utility.
Backing up to a third-party NAS with Time Machine is risky, and unacceptably risky if it's your only backup. I know this isn't the answer you want, and I also know that the manufacturer says the device will work with Time Machine, and that it usually seems to work. Except when you try to restore, and find that you can't.
If you want network backup with Time Machine, use as the destination either an Apple Time Capsule or an external hard drive connected to another Mac or to an 802.11ac AirPort base station. Only the 802.11ac base stations support Time Machine, not any older model.
If you're determined to keep using the NAS for backup, your only recourse for any problems that result is to the manufacturer (which will blame Apple.)

Underlying Error=(Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=5 "The operation couldn’t be completed. Input/out. Any thoughts on what is causing these errors and the upgrade failure?
    Thanks

I have no idea what the specific error code means but input/output errors can sometimes mean a disk is failing. Make a couple of backups of all important data before doing anything else.
Verify your startup disk using the First Aid tab in Disk Utility. If the disk needs repair boot from your Leopard DVD and repair your disk from Disk Utility under Utilities on the screen after you choose your language. Repeat the repair process until Disk Utility reports all is well.
If Disk Utility doesn't find any errors you might want to try a new download of the update and keep a sharp eye on your HD for anything else that might indicate all is not well. Take special care to back up important data.
If Disk Utility finds errors it would probably be a good idea to pay a visit to the Apple Store to have them check out your hard drive even if Disk Utility is able to repair the errors.

  • Premiere Elements - Error 2048 couldn't open file......Question

    Windows 8.1
    6 gigs of ram
I get the following error when I attempt to open a created file for viewing.
    "Error- 2048: Couldn't open file.....not a file Quicktime understands.
I am creating the file in the default NTSC 720 format. I get the same message with trying to wide screen format.
This error seems new as it did not use to happen.
Can someone explain how to correct this error. In researching the problem I came across:
    1. trying third party repair software (which doesn't seem to solve the problem.)
    2. that the error refers to an error with the movie rendering (as opposed to the audio.)
Been working on this for four hours. Any help is certainly appreciated. Thanks.

What version of Premiere Elements on your Windows 8.1 (assumed 64 bit)? For now I will assume 11, 12, or 13.NT
Please confirm that your export setting from Premiere Elements were
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    QuickTime
with Presets = NTSC DV 16:9
and that you did not customize the settings, just hit save to get your widescreen DV.mov export.
That export should be fully playable with the latest version of QuickTime.
If you confirm that QuickTime player is rejecting it with your error 2048, then uninstall and install QuickTime
with the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.
    a. Try to open the existing DV.mov again in QuickTime
    and
    b. Create a new DV.mov in Premiere Elements and try to open it in QuickTime.
What are the results from a and b?
We will be watching for your progress.
    Thank you.

  • Couldn't Save File - Error Message

Recently after adding a few more pages and updating some existing pages on my site, I have been met with an error saying I cannot save my website using the save function of iWeb, I receive the "Couldn't Save File" error message, however it doesn't tell me what file can't be saved or what file might be missing. I am running verision 1.1.2. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

    Dear DOHCVTEC187:
I had that same error. iWeb would open with a "can't open file :unamed" error, and also would give me a "can't save" error. I searched on the discussions, and found a few things that might help.
First, save/backup your Domain. That is where iWeb saves all that cool web info. It should be located in:
    <user>/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
I try to make a back up this when ever I make big changes anyways. Alway a good idea. Burn it to Disk, put it on another HD. Etc. Then delete the original, leaving the folder empty.
    Second:
    Trash iWeb preferences, located:
    <user>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist
Now, use Disk utility to repair permissions. I do this as a helpful step.
    Then restart.
After restarting, open up iWeb. Hopefully it opens with out the error, since we are starting from "scratch". It should ask for you to create a new page/ new site. ie, remaking a "domain". Make a singe page. Save and then quit iWeb. It should run smoothly.
Now, go find that "new" domain you just made, and replace it with your old one.
    That should help.
Also, one thing that I found when this error happened to me was that I had built links to documents , such as PDF for people to download. Thus the error "couldn't open, unnamed" etc. It was because those links were "broken", so I had to find each link that I pointed to a PDF, and double check that it was still working and pointed to the correct file. Could be a pain in the but if you have alot of PDF's, etc, but it was worth it.
    Hope this helps!

  • My external hard drive accidentally switched off during Disk Utility's "erase free space" process.  I restarted the external hard drive and Disk Utility, but now I get the "couldn't mount disk" error when trying to finish the erase.  Please help!

My external Lacie Quadra hard drive accidentally switched off in the middle of "erase free space", and when I switched it back on Disk Utility was hanging.  So I Force Quit Disk Utility and restarted it.  Now when I try to erase I get
"Secure Disk Erase failed with the error: Couldn’t unmount disk."
But "erase free space" seems to work...
What can I do?  I'm erasing as I'm giving the drive to someone else and I wanted to wipe it clean.
Also should I use "erase" or "erase free space" if I want to wipe the drive clean?
    Please help!

Sorry I don't really understand.... there are no partitions on the drive.  How do I repartition it?
And should I use "erasing free space" or "erase" for wiping clean my drive of everything?  Erase seems to be faster last tiem I tried.
    Thanks!

  • I redeemed a Starbucks gift card for a song --You Found Another Love -- but when I went to play it, I received an error message that the file couldn't be found. Help

I am having a problem getting my Starbucks song to play. I redeemed it in the iTunes store. The song -- You Found Another Love -- shows up in my playlist, but it is not playable because I get an error message that says: File not found.
    Anyone have this problem?

Because the location for each song in your library is on your hard drive.  If the hard drive isn't there, how can iTunes play it?
You'll have to move/copy the music from your hard drive to your computer's hard drive.
Basically, EASIEST way to do all this, if you don't care about your play counts, etc...
-Delete EVERYTHING from iTunes, so that your library is now empty.
-Go to "Advanced" inside of the "Preferences" window, found in the "Edit" drop-down.  You can also access Preferences by pressing Ctrl+, (Press Ctrl and the comma key)
-Change your iTunes Media Folder Location to something simple, but on your computer. I use C:/iTunes.  Make sure "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" and "Copy files to...." are both checked.  You can close Preferences now.
-Now, drag and drop your music from your hard drive into your iTunes library.  iTunes will automatically add the music to your library, as you would expect, and also creates a copy of each file to place into that iTunes Media Folder you just created.
    Shouldn't have any more problems...

All of a sudden my mac starts speaking, but it only reads an error message. "A file could not be fetched from the network" but Voice over is turned off, I double checked it. I don't know what happened, but it's annoying, because it is so random.
