That sounds like a DNS error.
Go to your Options > WiFi
Click on the Wifi icon with the question mark on it. Then use the drop down box and select Internet connection. You'll see your DNS settings. Make sure that you have stuff there and that they are valid.

Error code "Couldn't resolve the host name"
I cannot access internet from tablet
WiFi shows connected
noticed this yesterday
any suggestions on how to fix errorDid you manually setup your wifi. Can not resolve host name usually means a problem with the dns. Which router are you using?

Couldn't resolve the host name (AGAIN!!!!)
I get this error alot! I've searched all kinds of forums and tried so many things that sometimes work (e.g., clear cache, restart). This is a common problem that renders the Playbook useless. It's so frustrating when you need to quickly jump online to check something and have to spend 20 minutes troubleshooting. What's the point?
According to my Wi-Fi tab, I'm connected and everyone else in the house is able to access the Internet without a problem (they have Apple products, I'm an die-hard but slightly embarrased RIM fan).
Does anyone know how to get around this error?Last time I had this issue was at a hotel and kept tapping the link and it worked
At home I switched to opendns.org as my ISP DNS was overloaded

The host name cannot be resolve ? ( with linksys router )
Hi all, I have some problem with setting up a network. I tried to set my network according to http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Configuring_network the network/internet is fine except the host name with "http://" cannot be resolve. For example
ping 216.239.61.104
ping www.gogle.com
both work fine, until I try,
ping http://www.google.com
it give me error, tell me that the hostname cannot be resolved. I tried to config my network using both dhcp or fix-ip, but the problem still present in both way. Internet works fine in windows/ubuntu.
Anyboy has any clue ? The router I use is wrt54gl with tomato firmware.
thanks in advance.kowalski wrote:
Hi,
if pinging www.google.com works then dns resolving _does_ work. Why would you want to ping http://something?
You should try opening http://whatever in a browser not pinging it from command line.
Or am I missing something obvious?
Yes, for instance, all mirror list for pacman is in "http://...." or "ftp://...." form. I could easily change the repository list, but I'm not sure if it'll have same problem in future with other program. Also, if it work in ubuntu and windows, why not arch. -

How to resolve a host name from IP using JNDI/DNS service provider
Hi
I got two questions on JNDI/DNS service provider:
1) How to resolve a host name when i got an IP
I understand How I do it inverse.
Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.sun.jndi.dns.DnsContextFactory");
env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "dns://"+server+"/"+domain);
DirContext ictx = new InitialDirContext(env);
Attributes attrs1 = ictx.getAttributes(host, new String[] {"A"});
2) This example above works when I specify the domain in the provider url.
If I am not specifing a domain but only the dns server I got an NameNotFoundException.
What should I do if I don't got the domain?
get the availible domains and loop on them?Hi,
if your DNS server supports that, you can do a reverse DNS lookup. This works as follows:
String server = "your.dns.server";
String domain = "in-addr.arpa";
String ip = "4.3.2.1";
Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.sun.jndi.dns.DnsContextFactory");
env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "dns://" + server + "/" + domain);
DirContext ictx = new InitialDirContext(env);
Attributes attrs1 = ictx.getAttributes(ip, new String[] {"PTR"});1: Use the pseudo-domain in-addr.arpa
2: Use the reverse IP address for lookup, i.e. if your host has 1.2.3.4, use 4.3.2.1!!
3: Request the PTR attribute

"An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed."
This is the error message I get whenever I try to connect to my servers domain which I just set up earlier today. I have read through a bunch of other threads on the same error message
but each of them has had different solutions and none of them have helped me.
The one thing that I suspect is related to my problem is that I can't ping my domain on the W7 computer I'm trying to connect. I can ping the server, but not the domain. the domain
i'm using is set up like "domain.local" .
Other things that might be relevant.
I'v already set up user accounts and a computer under the Server 2012 active domain administrator settings.
I'v port forwarded ports 80 and 443 on the server.
The server has a static IPv4 IP adress. I haven't done anything with IPv6
The W7 computer has a dynamic IP adress, but I don't think it changes. I believe my router is set up to keep it constant, not 100% sure though.
Thanks for any help with this, I'm pretty much out of ideas on this.Hi ZachPrinz,
Firstly, would you please let us know the outputs of ipconfig /all both of the clients and the DC.
Also, if you run nslookup FQDN of your DC from your clients, what will you receive?
Meanwhile, regarding the issue, we can refer to
the similar thread and see how it works.

Run Into Problem When Trying Not To Hard Code the Host Name
My code (using the JavaMail API) works fine when the SMTP host name is hard coded in the program:
props.put( "mail.smtp.host", "TheHostName" );Then, I tried to put the host name in a properties file (smtpServer.properties). The properties file is in the $TOMCATHOME\webapps\AppName\WEB-INF\classes\resources directory. And the properties file has this one single line:
smtpServer = TheHostName //Note: The host name has only alpha characters, dots, and dashesIn my program, I did:
private final String PROPFILE = "resources/smtpServer.properties";
private Properties oProp = null;
public SendBatchMails() // this is the constructor in my class
try
oProp = new Properties();
oProp.load ( getClass().getClassLoader().getResourceAsStream( PROPFILE ) );
catch( IOException oEx )
System.out.println("Unable to load the Properties " + PROPFILE + oEx );
String smtpServer = oProp.getProperty( "smtpServer" );
Properties props = System.getProperties();
props.put( "mail.smtp.host", smtpServer );And, I got this runtime error:

However the code that you posted doesn't seem to have anything to do with that. Check your Struts configuration.

OracleVM Manager template 2.2.0 trying change the host name
Hi,
I have installed the OracleVM Manager 2.2.0 template
into an OraclVM Server 2.2.1.
Reading the OracleVM Manager 2.2.0 install
instructions "Readme_for_Media_Pack_B59146-01.txt" and doing
the installation in the interview area, I am asked
to provide the fully qualified domain name as the
name of the OracleVM Manager.
Therefore, I provided something like this.
ovmmanager.mydomain.mytopdomain
Later, when I was in the OracleMV Manager,
I noticed the following.
Correct information was written in my /etc/hosts file.
192.168.1.160 ovmmanager.mydomain.mytopdomain ovmmanager
The case seems however, that unusual information
was written to the /etc/sysconfig/network file.
HOSTNAME=ovmmanager.mydomain.mytopdomain
When I type "uname -a", the results are shown.
ovmmanager.mydomain.mytopdomain
I say, "unusual", because most people prefer a single
name "ovmmanger" to be the host name.
I have tried to permanently change the host name of the computer by
changing the contents of the /etc/sysconfig/network file to the following.
HOSTNAME=ovmmanager
Next, at the command line I would type the following.
hostname ovmmanger
When I type "uname -a", the results are shown.
ovmmanager
However, every time I do an 'xm shutdown' to the
OracleVM Manger (the ovmmanger), and then later do an
'xm create vm.cfg' to start the ovmmanger,
when I type a "uname -a", the results are shown.
ovmmanager.mydomain.mytopdomain
When I look at the contents of the /etc/sysconfig/network file
the contents are back to the original contents.
HOSTNAME=ovmmanager.mydomain.mytopdomain
instead of my preferred contents
HOSTNAME=ovmmanager
My first question is the following.
By design, does the OracleVM Manager 2.2.0 template
supposed to have a host name to be a
fully qualified domain name?
ovmmanger.mydomain.mytopdomain.
My second question is the following.
If the situation is satisfactory to have just
ovmmanger
as my host name, then how do I prevent the host name renaming
process to reoccur every time I do an 'xm create vm.cfg' to start
the OracleMV Manager?
Thank you
AIMFirst Question: No, it does not have to be a full qualified hostname. As long as the hostname is resolved in your network short qualified is fine.
Second Question: You don't have to do anything. In OVM Template design the configuration tool is just called the first time your template is started. All succeeding startups will not go through the configuration again. (There is however an option to reenable/reset the VM that the configuration is called again).

Cannot change the host name in registry.xml
After installing WebLogic 10.3.3 on Oracle VM template, the regsitry.xml and registry.dat files cannot be changed to reflect the hostname of the VM Guest
nstall WebLogic server in a OVM template. The host tag in registry.xml will contain the hostname from the template (e.g. firsttemp.oradev.inddev.national.com.in) .
Create a guest using this OVM Template and the The host tag in registry.xml will still contain the hostname from the template (e.g. firsttemp.oradev.inddev.national.com.in) rather than the actual hsotname.

any pointers are highly appreciated..It is not recommended to change the name for an IP addressIt is not recommended by who? AFAIK there is no such sentence in documentation.
But there is other:
host Required. Specify the host name or IP address of the database server computer.
Instad of "It is not recommended..." better use "Consider this..."
, as if ever it changes in the future, you'll have to be back and change once again your ip.The same is truth when we are speaking about FQDN (fully qualified domain name).
How often your company changes the IP adresses on server platform?
My experience from past:
First case:
My company has rebranded and and domain name has been changed but IP has not. Unfortunatelly we were not using OID for resolving. If there were FQDN used then would have to make changes in many files. Fortunatelly we were using IP addresses.
Now we are using OID for resolving of tnsnames (as primary method).
What I want to say is both solutions (FQDN or IP) are fine. Each of them has some advantages and also disadvantages. -
