Error creating VM on Hyper-V Windows server 2012 R2 (0x80070569).
I recently installed in my domain a member server 2012 r2 with Hyper-V Role, and got the following error when creating a new vm:
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.(0x80070569).
The user is momber of Domain Admins group and is logged on the server. I noted that the domain admins group has not the right "log on as a batch Job". Is this right required to create vm ? What are the others requirements to install and admin virtual
machines in Hyper-V?
Hi Claudio,
"As Microsoft recommended 'best practice' for Hyper-V servers is to not install any additional Roles or Features that do not specifically support virtualization. As an example, in a Hyper-V Cluster, the Hyper-V Role and the Failover Clustering feature are
installed to support highly available virtualized workloads. Hyper-V hosts play a critical role in an organizations' virtualization strategy. Microsoft recommends that the Hyper-V servers be managed in a separate OU in Active Directory (if they are domain-joined).
Only group policies that apply specifically to Hyper-V host machines should be applied to this OU. This minimizes the risk of a policy conflict affecting the proper functioning in a Hyper-V host. "

Creating System Restore Points in Windows Server 2012
Searching for "Create a restore point" on Windows Server 2012, brings up a link that when clicked takes you to System Properties. Once there, there is no System Protection tab or option to create a system restore point. Windows Server Backup
is installed and functioning.
Is this feature available in Windows Server 2012? Was it replaced with Shadow Copies for Shared Folders?
Thanks for any insight you can provide.HI,
To create a system restore point, run msconfig.exe, that will launch a UI, click the tools tab, select system restore, that should invoke a UI which asks if you want to restore to an earlier version or do you want to create a new restore point. I clicked
"create a new restore point" The problem that I ran into is that when I click that button is I receive the error: can't find "C:\Windows\System32\rstrui.exe". That's the .exe which supports the "Create / restore point' processes. I
posted a question about the missing .exe on the windows > windows 8.1 > Repair and recovery forum and was told to post it here. :>) The subject title of that post is "rstrui.exe Create a system restore point on windows server 8 Standard".
That post documents the steps that I followed trying to create a system restore point. (FYI: I'm not trying to backup any drives. I know what a system restore point is and what backup is. They are two different animals). I want to create a restore
point prior in order to prep for installing an App. So, If a problem occurs; the registry keys and app files can be backed out to some extent. BTW: Create system restore point on windows 8.1does work perfectly well, there's a different UI. I just didn't
know where to post the initial problem.regards,Steve -

///You are using Hyper-V server and not Hyper-V on Windows Sever.
Hyper-V server is free, but it only includes the Hypervisor and no GUI (Only for managing Hyper-V)
what's your physical machine OS ?
If it's Windows 8 or 8.1 then you can enable the Hyper-V management tools (Programs and features, Turn On/off Windows Features, Hyper-V, Hyper-V management tools). Then open the Hyper-V console and connect to your Hyper-V server.

Every few days we see two dialogs with the following messages:
Dialog 1, title: Check for Licensing Compliance is Incomplete
The server did not finish checking the license compliance. If the server is joined to a domain, make sure that the server can connect to a domain controller.
Dialog 2, title: Check for Licensing Compliance is Incomplete
The server did not finish checking the license compliance. If the server is joined to a domain, make sure that the server can connect to a domain controller. If the license compliance check cannot be completed, the server will automatically shut
down in 8 day(s) 23 hour(s) 0 minute(s).
The server is not (and never has been) joined to a domain or had any DC roles installed. In fact its still connected to the default Workgroup.
The server was configured in our office and never showed this message until it was installed on site. The main difference from what I can see is that when installed on site it was given a static IP address and does not have any DNS settings in the network
adapter properties.
I have scoured a number of forums on this error but in almost every other instance of this error message the servers are connected to a Domain Controller and the solutions generally are linked to dis-joining and rejoining the domain. Unfortunately this is
not an option for this scenario.
I initially thought that adding some relevant DNS server IP address may resolve the issue, however, we have the exact same model server configured exactly the same running at a different site that does not experience this problem. This server also has no
DNS server configured.
I have seen a post that suggests turning off the servers "Foundation Checking", but I'm unsure how to do this. Thanks for your response Vivian.
I can confirm that this server is not (and never has been) a member of any active directory, it is configured as a Workgroup server. It was initially configured on a network that does have an active directory, but was never joined to it. During that time it
never displayed these messages.
The server was moved into production on a different site and network and setup with a static IP address. The site network does have its own active directory but the server was not joined to it. It is whilst on this new network that these messages began.
Since my original post DNS servers have been added and the Microsoft activation has been verified, however, the messages are still appearing.
There are only 2 user accounts configured on this server. The local admin account and another local admin user.
The remote desktop services roles have been installed but not yet configured. I don't think that has any bearing on this scenario though.
The description of this error in the above "Introduction to Windows Server 2012 Foundation" link states:
This error occurs when the server cannot finish checking the requirements for the root domain, forest trust configuration, or both. It usually happens when the server cannot connect to a domain controller. If the situation persists, the server will
shut down 10 days after the first time the compliance check failed. Each time this error message occurs, it will state the actual time remaining before the server will shut down. If you restart the server after it has shut down because of non-compliance, the
server will shut itself down again in 3 days.
The above description leads me to the following question - In a Workgroup environment, does the server still try to contact a domain controller to establish a level of trust? If this is the case could it be that the server can no longer see the initial DC
on its new network and this is what is triggering the messages?
Am I clutching at straws here? -

This service account does not have the required user right "Log on as a service."
User Action
Assign "Log on as a service" to the service account on this computer. You can use Local Security Settings (Secpol.msc) to do this. If this computer is a node in a cluster, check that this user
right is assigned to the Cluster service account on all nodes in the cluster.
If you have already assigned this user right to the service account, and the user right appears to be removed, check with your domain administrator to find out if a Group Policy object associated
with this node might be removing the right.
I found following article:
"MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID service was unable to log on as NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID" error when you install WID in Windows Server 2012
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2832204/en-us
To work around the issue, use one of the following methods:
Assign the Log on as a service user right to NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES in the GPO that defines the user right.
Exclude the computer from the GPO that defines the user right.
We moved the SCCM server to OU where no policies were getting applied and then applied the new GPO to that OU. Restarted the server and we were able to install WSUS role.

Windows Server 2012 R2 NIC Teaming and DHCP Issue
Came across a weird issue today during a server deployment. I was doing a physical server deployment and got Windows installed and was getting ready to connect it to our network. Before connecting the Ethernet cables to the network adapters, I created a
NIC Team using Windows Server 2012 R2 built-in software with a static IP address (we'll say its 192.168.1.56). Once I plugged in the Ethernet cables, I got network access but was unable to join our domain. At this time, I deleted the NIC team and the two network
adapters got their own IP addresses issued from DHCP (192.168.1.57 and 192.168.1.58) and at this point I was able to join our domain. I recreated the NIC team and set a new static IP (192.168.1.57) and everything was working great as intended.
My issue is when I went into DHCP I noticed a random entry that was using the IP address I used for the first NIC teaming attempt (192.168.1.56), before I joined it to the domain. I call this a random entry because it is using the last 8 characters of the
MAC address as the hostname instead of the servers hostname.
It seems when I deleted the first NIC team I created (192.168.1.56), a random MAC address Server 2012 R2 generated for the team has remained embedded in the system. The IP address is still pingable even though an ipconfig /all shows the current NIC team
with the IP 192.168.1.57. There is no IP address of 192.168.1.56 configured on the current server and I have static IPs set yet it is still pingable and registering with DHCP.
I know this is slightly confusing but I am hoping someone else has encountered this issue and may be able to tell me how to fix this. Simply deleting the DHCP entry does not do the trick, it comes back.Hi,
Please confirm you have choose the right NIC team type, If you’ve previously configured NIC teaming, you’re aware NIC teams usually require the assistance of network-side
protocols. Prior to Windows 2012, using a NIC team on a server also meant enabling protocols like EtherChannel or LACP (also known as 802.1ax or 802.3ad) on network ports.

Host: Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V and RRAS (for Internet over NAT)
VM: Windows Server 2012 R2 with installed Active Directory Domain Services
When I open AD DS configuration window (“promote this server to a domain controller”) many services and programs on my host (include Hyper-V, RRAS & Server Manager) fails with RPC Server unavailable error.Hello Aleksandr,
There wasn't any configuration information, ipconfig /all, network setup, etc. So it's difficult to tell.
More importantly, are you trying to promote the host server? If yes, that is not advised, for one, because it's a Hyper-V server, (not suggested at all), and two, RRAS is installed. RRAS is problematic with any domain controller because it turns it into
a multihomed domain controller.
Active Directory communication fails on multihomed domain controllers
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272294/
Multihomed DCs (with more than one unteamed NIC or multiple IPs) with DNS, RRAS, iSCSI, Clustering interfaces, management interfaces, backup interfaces, and/or PPPoE adapters - A multihomed DC is not a recommended configuration, however there are ways to
configure a DC with registry mods:

Networking?
I don't know how your networking is setup, whether there are multiple NICs on the host server, if they are teamed, if you have the host interface set to allow the operating system to share administration, or if there are separate interfaces for each. Can
the host OS ping/communicate with the DC virtual machine?
If there are more than one NIC, you have the choice to team the NICs and share the Teamed NICs for the Hyper-V OS and the VMs, or keep them separate where one is devoted for the Hyper-V OS, and one for the VMs.

The Volume Shadow Copy service initially was running under the context of System, so we thought that ‘System’ doesn’t have permissions to access network shares.
When the Volume Shadow Copy service was running under the context of System, this was the error logged:
“failed with following error code '0x8078014B' (There was a failure in creating a directory on the backup storage location.).”
Which is likely due to not having permissions to write to the network location.
This is a scheduled backup trying to write to a network location, so we changes the service to run under the context of an account that does have permissions to write to the network share.
Then the error changed to this:
“failed with following error code '0x8078006B' (Windows Backup failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes.).”

We aren’t really seeing anything that gives any hint on what the issue is.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance! We are trying to back up folders/files from 2 local drives (C: & D:), both of which have only 10% space used, and 100 GB free.
We are attempting to back the files up to a Remote Shared File (and there is 100+ GB free space out there).
If we try another network location, we receive the exact same error.
This is Windows Server 2012, not running Hyper-V and is a physical server not a VM.

Hi,
I have a hyper-v host running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard with Hyper-V on it, and on that host I got 5 virtual machines running and of those 5, 4 of those the DPM are able to backup but when DPM tries to backup a server running Windows Server 2003 R2
I get the following errors in the eventlog.

What I have done to try to troubleshoot this issue is:
Reinstalled DPM - No sucess
Restarted the Hyper-v Host - No sucess
I'm at the point where I am out of ideas and google hasn't given me much.
/Josephi have the same error.
"vssadmin list writers" shows last error unknown for all writers
disk space is sufficient
ntbackup of systemdrive and systemstate runs fine.
i installed KB940349 which fixes some vss related issues but the problem is still there.
any ideas?
Thanks.
When you have vssadmin reporting unknown error the only way to reset the vsswriters (as I understand it please correct me if I'm wrong :) ) is to restart the machine. The Fellenator is correct, make use that the vsswriter is working correctly since this
is the main function DPM is using when taking backup. He's also right in saying that it's outside the scope! Create a new thread on your error, then you will get much better responce!

Hi all;
Suppose I have created a two-node Hyper-V cluster with a fibre channel shared storage in Windows Server 2012. Everything work fine except some issues. One of the is that when I want to configure the cluster to add a VM as its cluster resource, the following
error message appears:
An error occurred while determining the state of this clustered role in the cluster. The remote procedure call failed with error 800706BE.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I have tested many possible solutions without any success. The actions that I have done so far are mentioned in the following and the results of them have been said, too.
When I restart the servers, everything are good but after some times when I reopen Failover Cluster Manager on one of the servers, the snap-in related to my cluster name does not load. Please look at the following figure:
And when I want to connect to my cluster name, the following error message appears:
Note: The above problem appears randomly regarding to servers. In the other hand, after the restart, one of the servers acts as the above statement.
The following error message is the result of the DTCPing utility:

==== End of RPC Endpoint Mapper query response ====
portqry.exe -n srv04 -e 135 -p TCP exits with return code 0x00000000.
I have read the KB197814 and did the steps in it, restarted both servers, but the problem did not resolved.
I have check both servers for RPC Service status and in both servers it has started.
The both servers are alive and can ping each other by their IP address and name.
The firewall of both servers is off and I stopped the Windows Firewall service COMPLETELY.
Any services and applications that are depending on RPC have problems. For example when I want o remotely manages the services on these servers by using Services.msc console, the following error message appears:
Error 1726: The remote procedure call failed.

Hi
I have recently bought a Virtual Machine from a data center and installed a Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition on it. As I tried to install the SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition, the data center administrator denied me to do this telling me it is not possible
to install any licensed Microsoft software on a Windows installed on virtual machine created by Hyper-V. It was really strange for me! I wanna know if this is true.
Thanks EverybodyHi Farid,
For SQL server running on virtual server please refer to following article :
http://blogs.technet.com/b/peeyusht/archive/2010/03/19/sql-licensing-under-virtualization.aspx
In addition , for license issue we still recommend you to contact MS Activation Center:

Best Regards,
Elton Ji

Siri Gym/School Location Fail
I believe there is a little goof in the Siri design for locations. You are able to get directions and set reminders to locations associated with your contact on iCloud, so you can add your Home and Work address (correctly labeled) and you're good to
