This alert is often the result of iTunes being blocked by firewalls on the computer.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Try turning off your Firewall to see if the issue is resolved (this includes the built-in Firewall or a third-party Firewall such as Norton Personal Firewall, McAfee, Symantec, etc.). See iTunes for Windows: Music Sharing With Windows Internet Connection Firewall for steps if using Windows. See KB iTunes: Music Sharing does not work if Firewall is on for steps if using Mac OS X.
If there's no firewall or security software interference, try to remove proxy settings.

You'll have to check your security software settings, iTunes has to be able to connect to Apple servers during the download process.

Maybe your firewall or security software are preventing the download from finishing. You could try disabling them until you finish the download

  • I can't download iOS 5 due to error of -3259

I can't download iOS 5 due to error of -3259...Please help!

Ibeen having the same problem since the apple event. Wirelessly, the iPhone would see the update but not be able to download it. When I plugged it into iTunes, it saw the update and tried to download it but hung at "connecting to the update server...". I finally stumbled onto a solution that worked for me... changing the DNS on your iPhone's wireless connection. took less than a minute for mines to update!
Make sure that you are connected to your wi-fi network...
    Tap on Settings
    Tap on Wi-Fi
Tap on the little blue ball/arrow on network that you are connected to
On the DHCP tab, tap in the DNS field (write down what is in there and save it just in case)
Delete what is in there and add in 8.8.8.8 (this is Google Public DNS*)
Tap out of the field and out of Wi-Fi connections
Try to update from the phone again
I ended up making this change on my iPad, iPhone, Apple TV and iMac and it worked in all cases.

When trying to upload Version 5 update for IPad after the download is complete and the files are being processed I get an error message - 3259 which says the internet connection is timed out but in fact it is still operational. The download is unsuccessful. Why is this?

Try temporarily turning off your firewall and antivirus software until the download has completed.

As far as I know you can order the recovery disk here:
    http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
In case you did not create such recovery disk in the past this is just and only way to get the recovery disk.
If your CD/DVD drive is OK, then the recovery disk or the image on the disk must be faulty.
By the way: to boot and to install the system on computer using UEFI BIOS, you have to disable the secure boot and have to switch from UEFI to CSM mode...

This may occur if you are using an older version of iTunes, having a network connection issue, or when a Firewall protection system on the computer is blocking some communication ports that iTunes need to have open for full functionality.

  • I keep getting error code 3259

I keep getting the error code 3259. I run Windows XP and I use Kaspersky as my anti-virus. I try to download the Joe Rogan podcast and it won't let me download it unless I keep pressing refresh (50+ times). This is getting annoying and enough is enough. There has to be an alternative to this or a way to fix this. I'm on iTunes 10.5.2 and yet, still.... nothing. I turned off Kaspersky... Nothing. Error still comes.
Guys please help me out, this is just getting ridiculous.

THIS WAS COPIED FROM A THREAD THAT WORKED FOR ME SO I CAN'T TAKE THE CREDIT
Open notepad as administrator, and direct yourself to:
    C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc
    open the "Hosts" file:
note the "127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com" portion near the bottom. your hosts may be different, and if so, then look for that part specifically. the problem for me, lied within the fact that just before the "127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com" part, there originally was no hash(#) with the space like the rest of the hosts file. This was all I had to fix. After editing and then SAVING the hosts file in notepad I restarted iTunes and the update went through without a hitch!
so if you do not see the hash and space before the "127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com" part, all you have to do is put the #, and then press tab! I hope this works for some of you guys! So just to be clear, that particular line in the file should look like:
    # 127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
    good luck!

  • "Error downloading purchased music. Disk could not be read or written to.

I just purchased an album. It downloaded 23 of the 25 tracks until it gave me this error: "There was an error downloading your purchased music. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I double checked my hard drive space and found I had about 1 gig left, which is a small percentage of my harddrive, but plenty of space for a few songs. But, just to be sure, I deleted an old iMovie project to free up another 20 gigs. I restart the iMac and ran iTunes.
iTunes told me, "The file 'iTunes Library' does not appear to be a valid music library file. iTunes has attempted to recover your music library and renamed this file to 'iTunes library (Damaged).'" I pressed Ok to this message and the next, which asked if I wanted to download the rest of my purchased music. I held out hope that the songs would download -- that the iTunes and wonderously repaired itself.
Nope. It seems to actually download the songs, but fails to actually write them to disk. I check my permissions for the iTunes Library folder and I have read & write access. Furthermore, I ran Repair Permissions from Disk Utility. Still, no dice.
So, I thought I'd purchase a second album, just to see if it was the two songs (maybe corrupted). Now, I can't get any songs out of the new album in addition to the original two misfit songs. It seems that whatever happened has no prevented me from downloading and saving anything from the Music Store.
I am beginning to fear a hard drive failure, though everything else seems not to care (including iMovie 6). Does anyone have any other tips to offer? I'll give anything a try at this point. If worse comes to worse, I'll travel to my local Apple Store Genius Bar and see what they can do.
    Thanks in advance.

Answered my own question. After I thought I had tried everything, it occurred to me to Verify Disk. Doing so revealed a minor bitmap error. So, using my trusty install disk, I booted my machine to the disk and repaired it.
After the repair, I started iTunes and was able to download my songs. Unfortunately, my original library file was permanently damaged, so I had to start with a clean one. However, if the worst thing to happen to me in all this is that I have to redefine my playlists, then I'm better off.
I hope this thread helps someone in the future.
