Error downloading music

Hi there
I tried to download a complete album 20 minutes directly on my iphone and faced the following problem
First track downloaded correctly and then 2nd track started downloading. When 2nd track reached the "finishing point" I got an error message on my devie saying something like "Error downloading music, you can download your track at your computer via Itunes". Same error applied to all tracks thereafter. I found a trik to bypass this error. I switched from itunes to ipod menu (purchased library) and then back to itunes again and then track could be "finished". This had to be done evry single time for every single track on the album!!!
After some time I managed to download the entire album but
1. this is not the designated method for downloading albums and
2. two of the tracks downloaded but without sound!!! (I reported a problem to apple abut this)
Do you people think that my iphone has some kind of problem or could it be a problem of itunes store? Do you think a phone reset can sort the problem?

you don't have any problem on iphone. I have the same situation today when I tried to download album which is contained 12 songs. I got download error. I tapped to redownload them. it still got error. massage popped up, said 'item will be available when you log on your computer.' so I think that it is just internal error on itunes music store. I will be fine when I will redonwload them on my mac. by the way, it is the first time happened to me.

  • Error Downloading Music to Network Drive

I've moved my Music Library to a networked drive (NTFS) on a Windows XP system. The workstation that I'm running iTunes on is also Windows XP. Since then I cannot download purchased MUSIC (haven't tried videos yet). After initiating download via either starting up iTunes or using Check for Purchased Music Option, iTunes tries to do the download for each of the pending items After i's been thru all that are qued up, I get message that "There was an error downloading your purchased music. The disk could not be read or written to." I assume this applies to the networked drive which is accessible and readable with no problems (from/to any other program). Also, all INFO pointers in iTunes music listings confirm that songs are all stored on networked drive as intended and are accessible with no problem/errors. I also note that Preference Settings (Advanced) point to the appropriate Networked drive and folder (...\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music) and that the "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized" is checked. "Copy Files o iTunes Music folder when adding to library" isn't checked but behavior is same even if it is. Also, for what ever it maybe worth noting, attempts to Consolidate Library result in message "Copying Music Failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." I assume again that this is refers to the networked drive which, again, is accessible with no problems to any other programs to include iTunes itself which can access movies and/or songs from the networked drive, playing them wihout error even while these messages are being displayed during these other operations.
So, as it stands now, I have purchased music that I cannot download by any method that I try. The Apple Store recognizes that it is purchased and offers to download it whenever I start iTunes But I continue to receive the same error described above. In the iTunes Music Folder on the networked drive there is a folder, among the artist folders, named "Download" that contains pointers to the items that I've purchased but cannot download. I should also note that all of these attempts are being done with iTunes on the client workstation w/o the iPod being connected which I didn't think would matter. I've read most of what I can find about this error and can seem to find problem like mine(most others seem to be with video). Also, I'm sure that I followed correct procedure in moving my iTunes Library from local machine (where I was running out of space) to Networked drive. Local machine still contains the iTunes Music Library xml file, the iTunes Libary Database file, and an empty iTunes Music folder all in the appropriate (original) location of ...My Documents\My Music\iTunes folder.
I'd appreciate any suggestions as I've worked on this for several days and still cannot get to my purchased music.
Thanks in advance for advice / help.

Got a similar issue going on my network:
So far, two users have tried purchasing videos and music from the iTunes music store. Both got the failed download error and told to try again with the "Check for Purchased Music" command.
Both running Windows XP Pro bound to an Active Directory domain.
Both have the My Documents folder redirected to their personal directory on the network (\\server\users\username).
By default, iTunes stored its files in \\server\users\username\My Music\iTunes.
Since I don't want my users filling up my file server with MP3s, I first had the user move the iTunes Music folder to their local machine using iTunes Preferences (Advanced -> General). But after that change, the download error went away. ! The Library file and XML file are still stored in My Music\iTunes on the network.
I found your post while trying to figure out what's going on. Tried to reproduce the issue on a test machine by downloading the Free Download of the Week. But it downloads just fine. Nuts...

  • HT1725 Error downloading music from itunes

So, I've seen several posts about this over the past few days. I tried downloading Jason Mraz's new cd along with a few other songs and all of them are showing completed, however 80% skip midway through the song to the next track.
My question is simply, how do I re-download those tracks and get the product that I paid for?
There really should be a link and and an easy fix, as I'm quite sure this has happened before.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Before you can re-download your tunes, you would need to delete them first. You can then re-download them from the purchased section of the iTunes store.

  • "Error downloading purchased music. Disk could not be read or written to.

I just purchased an album. It downloaded 23 of the 25 tracks until it gave me this error: "There was an error downloading your purchased music. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I double checked my hard drive space and found I had about 1 gig left, which is a small percentage of my harddrive, but plenty of space for a few songs. But, just to be sure, I deleted an old iMovie project to free up another 20 gigs. I restart the iMac and ran iTunes.
iTunes told me, "The file 'iTunes Library' does not appear to be a valid music library file. iTunes has attempted to recover your music library and renamed this file to 'iTunes library (Damaged).'" I pressed Ok to this message and the next, which asked if I wanted to download the rest of my purchased music. I held out hope that the songs would download -- that the iTunes and wonderously repaired itself.
Nope. It seems to actually download the songs, but fails to actually write them to disk. I check my permissions for the iTunes Library folder and I have read & write access. Furthermore, I ran Repair Permissions from Disk Utility. Still, no dice.
So, I thought I'd purchase a second album, just to see if it was the two songs (maybe corrupted). Now, I can't get any songs out of the new album in addition to the original two misfit songs. It seems that whatever happened has no prevented me from downloading and saving anything from the Music Store.
I am beginning to fear a hard drive failure, though everything else seems not to care (including iMovie 6). Does anyone have any other tips to offer? I'll give anything a try at this point. If worse comes to worse, I'll travel to my local Apple Store Genius Bar and see what they can do.
    Thanks in advance.

Answered my own question. After I thought I had tried everything, it occurred to me to Verify Disk. Doing so revealed a minor bitmap error. So, using my trusty install disk, I booted my machine to the disk and repaired it.
After the repair, I started iTunes and was able to download my songs. Unfortunately, my original library file was permanently damaged, so I had to start with a clean one. However, if the worst thing to happen to me in all this is that I have to redefine my playlists, then I'm better off.
I hope this thread helps someone in the future.

  • Help, i get the 'error downloading purchased music.' what do i do?

i can download music and podcast fine but when i try to purchase a tv show i get the error message "there was an error downloading purchased music. the disk could not be read from or written to" i went to the purchases command in the advanced menu several times with no luck. i have purchased three seperate shows and get the same message. i'm tired of wasting money and would like some help.
    thanks

Hmm... I've never seen a issue exactly like this before personally, but usually you get the "Disk Locked" error when installing iTUnes or adding anything, songs or videos to iTunes folder. go here and follow the instructions http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302398
You may have to uninstall/reinstall iTunes AND quicktime if this does not work. Uninstlling iTunes DOES NOT delete any music, playlist, ratings ect ect

  • "There was an error downloading your purchased music. The disk could no..."

I am trying to download a Video from the new iTunes 6 and I do have an iPod Video, but for some reason everytime I check for purchases to download it, I get this error message: "There was an error downloading your purchased music. The disk could not be read from or written to."
For some reason the Apple Team cannot seem to help me with this, does anyone have any idea what is going wrong? I have purchased the video about 1 1/2 ago and no one has helped me from Apple yet. Please let me know....Thanks so much!

I had this same issue today. I was able to download songs but not videos. It turned out that the machine that I was downloading on was my work machine and my music storage location was redirected to my company server. The path was
    \\Rgafiles-2\bcross$\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
I suspected that this redirection was an issue so I installed iTunes on another maching and was able to successfully download the song locally. I then copied the .m4v file to my original machine.

  • Error code -50 when downloading music

I keep getting an error code -50 when I download music..it happens sporatically, about every third song I attempt to download. I have sent endless emails to suport..and no one has an answer--i've done the diagnostics and sent them to support--disabled my antivirus before downloading..Ive tried the check for purchases..nothing! the songs download to the point of "processing" then the error code pops up--I close iTunes and they just dissapear.the only thing on the hard drive I have ever found is files that will say "download" the do nothing if I import them to iTunes.Frankly, Im tired of losing music I wanted and can't re-download (as you can only download a song once-and even though its missing,it still shows in the purchase history)-I never have this problem if I get music from amazon.com. any ideas as to what causes this or how to fix it?

  • "An unknown error occurred (-50)" keeps coming up when downloading music purchase?

"An unknown error occurred (-50)" keeps coming up when downloading music purchase, 3 songs from the album came through but the last one is having problems. I've refereed to the itunes store FAQ and tried the solutions provided, but still not working?
The firewall on the mac is turned on, however I don't have any Web Accelerators, Ad Filters and I've just recently uninstalled my Virus Protection Software.
I'm not sure how to go about fixing this problem, and the solution provided by Apple doesn't seem to help me at all.
Does anyone know? Thanks in advance! (:

"Finally, does anyone know about problems with connecting a Windows iPod to a Mac"
The only issue you should encounter when using an iPod in this manner is that Windows cannot read a Mac formatted iPod without the use of some add on 3rd party software. Windows cannot read the HFS+ file system that Macs use.
However, if you were to use a Windows formatted on a Mac, it should work just fine because Macs can natively read the FAT 32 system that Windows uses.
"a while back when she hooked her Mac-format iPod to the friend's Windows computer. Through some process that none of them could describe accurately, it reformated her Mac iPod for Windows."
I suspect what happened is that when the Mac formatted iPod was connected to the Windows computer, a warning message appeared stating that the iPod needed to be formatted. I have my doubts that this reformat process occurred entirely on it's own!

  • I'm getting this error message: "User not registered for online use" when i'm trying to download music/ track names from a CD into ITunes on my Windows 8 PC.  I'm registered and my itunes account/ appleID are all correct and working.

I'm getting this error message: "User not registered for online use" when i'm trying to download music/ track names from a CD into ITunes on my Windows 8 PC.  I'm registered and my itunes account/ appleID are all correct and working.

The ""not recognized for on-line use". error is associated with the Gracenote service that iTunes uses to look up and retrieve metadata for CDs.  Some users have reported that this error occurs when trying to import from CD, subsequent to upgrading to version 12.  A number of slightly different solutions have been reported (though all of a similar nature).
Try walking through the following steps - before starting you may have to enable hidden files and folders to be viewed - in Windows 7 / Windows Explorer select Organize > Folder and search options, then on the View tab make sure that Show hidden files, folders and drives is selected.  Without this you won't see the AppData folder in C:\Users\username\
    Exit iTunes
In Windows Explorer, go to the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Delete the following files:
    CD Info.cidb
    com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
    If this doesn't work:
In iTunes, select Edit > Preferences and make a note (or take a screenshot) of your preferences settings in all relevant tabs
    Exit iTunes
In Windows Explorer, go to the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Delete the following file:iTunesPrefs.xml
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
If this second procedure does work, you'll need to restore other iTunes preferences settings to those that you noted in step 1.
    If this one didn't work:
    Exit iTunes
    Check the following folders:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Apple Computer\iTunes
Delete any copies of the following files:
    CD Info.cidb
    com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
    iTunesPrefs.xml
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
Again, if this procedure does work, you'll need to restore other iTunes preferences settings to those that you noted in step 1 of the second procedure. If you're still not able to retrieve CD info:
    Exit iTunes
In Windows, select Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.  Find the entry for iTunes, right-click and select Repair.
When this process has finished, restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
If none of these have worked (and almost everything I've seen suggests you should be OK by this point), you may have an issue with the installation and configuration of iTunes itself.  If you have got this far, see turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for advice on how to remove and replace of all components of iTunes.

  • After downloading Music (-50) error

I have the current itunes 7.0. Just updated. Ever since, I have been unable to download music. I get a -50 error and it tells me to check the connection. The connections are good. My DNS is good. I did not switch ISPs. I checked permissions. Permissions are good. What else? I am running on Mac Os 10.4.7. It seems to me that Apple has released another crappy product. I'm getting so tired of this.

I have not had any problems with 7.0 or the new update 7.0.1. Try and update your 7.0 to 7.0.1 and see if they have fixed any bug that may have been in 7.0.
