I cannot get past this error. I am running Sharepoint Foundation 2010 with Sp1. This is on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Server +Sp1.
Any ideas?

I finally figured this out, The issue was that I had put in the Self Service Portal Computer Name and Service account into the Service Manager SQL as SysAdmin, once I removed it flew through just fine.

I'm installing the SCSM2012 Management Server
component on a SQL dev box. During the installation, the very last step (Import Management Packs) fails with this error:
An error occurred while executing a custom action:_PopulateUserRoles
This upgrade attempt has failed before permanent modifications were made. Upgrade has successfully rolled back to the original state of the system. Once the correction are made, you can retry upgrade for this role.
I've already verified that the account I'm logged in with has SA access to the SQL database. Windows 2008 R2 firewall is turned off.....
Has anybody else run into this problem?I don't see anything indicative in the setup log. The setup seems to get all the way to the part where it installs the management packs. Then right after that is when the installation fails and it rolls back.
From the setup log, towards the end:

An error occurred while executing a custom action:_PopulateUserRoles
I am trying to install Service Manager 2012 RTM onto a brand new server 2008r2. The purpose is to replace the other Data Management server that is giving me problems upgrading to service pack1. I go through the setup and connect to the SQL server and
the database that has my existing DM. I am using the same credentials and everything is the same. It goes all the way to the end and I get an error :
An error occurred while executing a custom action:_PopulateUserRoles
This upgrade attempt has failed before permanent modifications were made. Upgrade has successfully rolled back to the original state of the system. Once the correction are made, you can retry upgrade for this rollAfter this error, I reran setup and used the domain admin account instead of the Service Manager Admins group I created in AD. The error did not happen again, but I did get the "Setup cannot complete - RollbackCleanup"
error. This was fixed by following this link: "http://www.cireson.com/scsm/scsm-an-error-occurred/" and this MS article: "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922918/en-us".
These are the steps (I had to create the DWORD 32 bit):
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click
OK.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
In the right pane, locate the ServicesPipeTimeout entry.
Note If the ServicesPipeTimeout entry does not exist, you must create it. To do this, follow these steps:
On the Edit menu, point to
New, and then click DWORD Value.
Type ServicesPipeTimeout, and then press ENTER.
Right-click ServicesPipeTimeout, and then click Modify.
Click Decimal, type 60000, and then click
OK.
This value represents the time in milliseconds before a service times out.
Restart the computer.
Hope this helps!
BR,
Robert

I am trying to install on Windows 7 Ent. and Windows 2012 (both attempts fail with same error).
The VS 2008 shell piece was installed, however, as others have experienced the prereq check issue, I removed it from the input file in the setup folder, which resolved that piece.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.
Regards, Zoeb KhanWhen installing the VS Isolated Shell, make sure the actual binaries (found on the root drive or where you extract the web installer) are installed. This will resolve the above error and also the Prerequisite issue that a lot of people are coming across.

An error occurred while executing a custom action:_CreateMOMRegKey
It occurs during the "Configuring Reporting" portion of the install. This is an install using an existing database and the error seems to occur as it is trying to access that database during the Reporting portion of the install. I have included
the portion of the log file where it fails to speed things along. I have looked at all of the advice on the forums and I am completely lost at this point.

I uninstalled a previous installation of SCSM 2012 in our lab environment because the person who installed it is didn't give anyone else permissions and they weren't available to make the change. Since then, I've tried to install SCSM 2012 multiple
times and it fails every time during the Finalize step with the error shown in the picture below.
Things I've tried and double checked:
I am running the install with a domain admin account
I'm specifying a domain user service account during install which is local administrator on the machine
I rebuilt the performance counters
I'm running SQL 2k8 R2 SP2
.Net 3.5.1 is installed
I see the following message in the System Event Log during setup:
Event 7036 - The System Center Data Access Service service entered the running state.
Event 7031 - The System Center Data Access Service service terminated unexpectedly.
It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
It appears as though this happens 18 times before the service is no longer restarted and is left terminated.
Any thoughts or help on how to get this to work would be greatly appreciated! Log excerpts are below as well as a link to the full log file at the end.

- I was able to resolve it using the command line LOTCTR /R
- And restarting the IIS service using the command line tool IISRESET
- After this command was successfully applied I have tried to install the Service Manager Portal without any errors.

"An unexpected error occurred while creating a custom installer."
All;
I—and I've seen several others in older posts—have been reported received the error "An unexpected error occurred while creating a custom installer" while attampting to build a customer ARD client installer. My guess is that this is do to a issue related to 10.8.X (10.8.4, in my case) based console Mac but I cannot confirm this. I have verified that there are no outstanding OS, client or application updates or hot fixes, as well.
Has anyone built an successful installer from Mountain Lion-installed Mac? Is there any know workarounds?
Thanks in advance, for any help.Have the exact same problem.
iMac running 10.8.4
Got through the steps of creating a custom client installer.
if I choose not to customize and just save an installer I don't get the error but it creates a file of Zero bytes in size.
If I chose to configure, when I try to save I get:
An unexpected error occurred while creating a custom installer. Please try again....
Console log reports:
9/1/13 12:32:29.603 AM Remote Desktop[1306]: open on /private/tmp/RemoteDesktopClientInstaller_HEATyAJ5CR/extracted/RemoteDesktopCli ent.pkg/Scripts/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg: No such file or directory
I have tried to save this in several location, with no effect on the error or the information logged, with the exception of the name of the temp directory that DOES contains the file (zero bytes):
RemoteDesktopClient.pkg

An unknown error occurred while executing the PowerShell script:
Hello all,
Not the most descriptive title, granted. I'm hoping this may prompt the next version toprovide additional valuable content.
Kindly requesting any help on this problem. I'm running VMM 2012 R2 version 3.2.7668
When I try to look at properties of an existing Private Cloud, I get this error, only if I "look" at certain attributes. If I stay away from the specific attributes, everything is hunky dory. For reasons unknown, after I get this error, I have
to exit and go back into VMM in order to get anything else to run.
The text in the error dialogue box is not entirely applicable because I was connected to the VMM server and will connect again, when I exit/relaunch.
An unknown error occurred while executing the PowerShell script:
The connection to the VMM management server scvmm2.mmmmmm.com was lost.
Ensure that scvmm2.mmmmmm.com is online and that you can access the server remotely from your computer. Then connect to scvmm2.mmmmmm.com and try the command again using the new connection. Or, you can ensure that the Virtual Machine Manager service is started
on scvmm2.mmmmmm.com. Then connect to scvmm2.mmmmmm.com and try the command again using the new connection. If the command fails again because of a connection failure, restart the Virtual Manager service and then try the operation again.
Try the operation again. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft Help and Support.

"An unspecified error occurred while performing a conform action on the following file:"
Has anyone else gotten this error in any of their projects? I've searched around Adobe support pages and elsewhere on the internet, but have found nothing.
It comes up in the events window and I can't even read what file it's talking about because it's on the next line, but the error message only shows one line and I haven't figured out a way to expand it.
I'm not even sure if it's causing any problems, or not (the project seems to work ok). This message shows up twice, as a red circle with an 'X' in it, but I also get the following message numerous times referring to a large amount of my .avi files:
"File importer detected an inconsistency in the file structure of filename.avi. Reading and writing this file's metadata (XMP) has been disabled."
That message shows up as a yellow triangle with an '!' in it. Since I haven't been able to turn anything up about these messages, I figured I'd ask here and see if anyone knew what was going on, how to fix the problem or if I should even worry about them.
Thanks.I am having this problem now when i use dynamic link from Premiere to after effects. I copy the footage from premiere then paste into after effects, i add alittle text maybe some light rays etc save it then go back to premiere. Then i get this message "An unspecified error occurred while performing a conform action on the following file C:\Caches\Media Cache Files\text comp 1 48000.cfa." does anyone have any idea as to what this is? i have had a few problems using the dynamic link from premiere to after effects problems such as Premiere freezing, not playing the after effects comps back in real time, crashes etc. Its as if the 2 programs dont like the dynamic link.
Im running Master Collection CS5 & CS 5.5 on running on a 24gb ram, Intel Core i7 950 @3.07GHz PC with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX470 graphics card. -
I really need some help!
I am making a short video on premiere elements 10 and I seem to get this conforming error everytime I open the project and I cannot save it either!!
"Unspecified error occured while performing a conform action on the following file:
File0002.AVI 48000.CFA"
This happens everytime I open premiere elements 10 to lots (or all) of my video clips and I can't find any help in the adobe forums or anywhere else online!
Also, I want to save this video as an AVI file, but when I try to export it, it says it has finished quite quickly and has not even added anything to click on or when it does, it does not play. Sometimes it says it has finished then comes up with: "Error compiling movie. Unknown error". one of these happen everytime that I try to save it.
Lots (or all) of my avi files come up as this same conforming error when I load the project and I have no clue as to what to do!...
It also crashes nearly everytime after these compiling errors!
My computer is running windows 7 ultimate OS

When trying to deploy a sandboxed solution containing only a feature with a simple associated event receiver from VS 2013, I'm getting the following error:
Error occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': An unknown exception occurred while executing a sandboxed code solution request in the worker process.\r\n|0
I'm working in Visual Studio 2013, deploying to SharePoint 2013.
The SharePoint project is very basic. I've only added a feature and an associated event receiver. It works without the event receiver. Then after I simply add the event receiver I get the error.
I've tried deploying directly from VS 2013 as well as publishing to a .WSP and uploading via web interface. Same error reported using both methods. I'm doing this using an Administrator account that I've confirmed is a site collection administrator.
Additionally, I've found that if I change Sandboxed Solution to False, deploy it, retract it, then change Sandboxed Solution back to True, then I can successfully deploy it. But this doesn't seem to be a permanent solution as the error will resurface a day
or two later...Hi Steve,
Are you running your SharePoint 2013 on domain controller?

what should iWell first of all you should stop using EXP for backups, it's quite unsuitable, and start using RMAN instead. Find out more.
If you have a Metalink account you shoudl read Note:298968.1. But teh headline is there is a bug in 10gR1 which is fixed in 10gR2. This may not help you much. The workaround is to try running the export again later, which may not be any more helpful.

ODBC error occurred while executing SQLExtendedFetch to retrieve the result
Good morning everyone,
I had the following error message while trying to run a simple query in Answers with 3 dimensional columns, 1 fact, and 4 calculated facts...
"State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 16011] ODBC error occurred while executing SQLExtendedFetch to retrieve the results of a SQL statement. (HY000)
It's taking around 2,5 minutes to run, then it give that error message.
Has anyone got any ideas on where I should get started?
Update: after 2nd time - it's running fine....I've added a filter...could this be the issue? Too many rows initially?Damon,
you were correct - it was indeed an ODBC issue. Switching to OCI has fixed the issue. This link was also very helpful:
regarding performance
In my case, the problem with OCI happened because I was using System DSN name instead of how it's called in tnsnames.
