Error during start up of Premiere Pro CS6.  "... could not find any capable video play modules..."

During start up of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, I get the following error message.  "Adobe Premiere Pro could not find any capable video play modules.  Please update your video display drivers and start again."  This does not occur on After Effects, and the program runs successfully.  Premiere Pro will not open, and in the start up window the last thing the status line states before the error message occurs is: "Loading ImporterQuikTime.prm"
I have added an NVidia GPU card to my system and have installed the latest video drivers from the NVidida website (GeForce 310.70).  This did not help.  I have QuikTime on my computer, but am not sure if it needs to be in a certain file location.
I have also gone in to BIOS after installing the GPU and disabled internal graphics, but that did not help either.  Not sure what to do next.  Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Rhoadman

Thank you everyone for the replies.  Although I don't have a laptop, the following seems to work.
Solution 1
On Windows 7, right-click the shortcut to Adobe Premiere Pro, and choose Run as Administrator.
Using this method, Premiere Pro opened successfully.  Using the shortcut directly, the error persists.  It looks like we will just have to open the program using this method.
Many thanks for the replies.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro could not find any capable video play modules. Please update your video display drivers and start again.

I have administrator rights to the computer. The drivers are up to date. But I am still getting the error message "Adobe Premiere Pro could not find any capable video play modules. Please update your video display drivers and start again"  when opening Premier Pro CS5.5. This appears to have happed after I upgraded to Mac OS 10.10.2.
    Anyone?
    Thanks

    Hi Stan.
I had the same problem as you did though I am using Adobe CC.  I saw nobody replied to you so perhaps my eventual success on my later version may have applications to the error on your version.
Anyhow, I did all the suggestions found here (Error "Premiere Pro could not find any capable video play modules" | Startup )  first and updated my NVidea card to no avail.  Eventually what did the trick was this...
After mucking about with the video card, I said "OK lets just have a go at Premiere itself." So I uninstalled Premiere CC and reinstalled it.  Now for some reason it didn't give me the latest patch but a slightly earlier version than the current one but lo and behold it was fine with the video card again.  I was able to get my friend's video imported and quickly edited but then was having some issues with exporting where it would hang up but I went into Adobe Media Encoder and exported it there without a care.  That task out of the way, I then went and made the update to the latest patch and it works perfectly fine - no video driver issues.
So short of it is this - if you've updated your drivers, perhaps what you could try uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere.
Let me know if this works.
    Cheers and good luck

  • "could not find any capable video play modules" on Premiere Pro CC 2014

    Hello
I am just recently subscribed to Creative Cloud.
After I download Premiere Pro CC, I got a start-up error "could not find any capable video play modules" while there is no problem with After Effect CC and SpeedGrade CC
For the first few time, I did successfully launch Premiere Pro CC by launching SpeedGrade first
However it doesn’t work now. In the meantime, Photoshop CC, Lightroom CC also work fine.
My situation is very similar to https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1420782
The start-up error pops-up when the launching process is stuck at “ImporterQuickTime.prm”
I am really disappointed as I finally joined CC for Premium Pro but it fails to launch.
I have spent days searching on Google for solution, of course I did see the Adobe FAQ at https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/error---preludevideo-play-modules.html but none of them works to me.
    So far I have tried
erasing the Temp files of my PC
updating my graphic card’s driver to the latest version,
    reinstalling Premiere Pro CC
But it is still not working at all.
Here’s the spec of my PC:
    Motherboard: AsRock Extreme4 970
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
Graphic Card: MSI N670GTX Power Edition (nVIDIA GTX 670)
    RAM: 12GB DDR3
OS: Windows 7 64bit Home Premium
Interestingly, Premiere Pro CC works without any error on my Acer V5-571G laptop with Win8.1 64 bit.
But the performance is unacceptably low during editing so I’m still hoping to use Premiere Pro on my desktop instead.
    Can anyone help me.?

What is the screen size, in pixels x pixels of your laptop?
Did you read the computer requirements before trying to run PPro?

  • Updated to Premiere CC 2014 - Now getting Startup Error - Could not find any capable video play modules

I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina with NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB.
Ever since the Premiere CC 2014 update, on launch, I get this error right after it shows "ExporterQuickTimeHost.bundle" loading (I tried removing this, but it still did it, so I don't think it has anything to do with the QuickTime plugin):
    Adobe Premiere Pro Startup  Error
Adobe Premiere Pro could not find any capable video play modules. Please update your video display drivers and start again.
I never got this in the CC version. I have the latest CUDA driver: version 6.0.46  &  GPU Driver: version 8.26.21 310.40.35f08
The computer is unusable for about 4-5 mins after this happens until it all clears up. This whole process takes up 7-8 mins!
This same thing also happens with Prelude CC 2014.
If anyone knows what's going on I would be very grateful.
    Thanks, Maz

I found a solution that worked for me. Seems to be a permissions problem. Here's the solution I found (found it here: CC 2014 startup issues : Adobe Premiere Pro):
In the finder menu click and hold on the GO menu. Hold the option button and the User library will show up. Click the User Library.
In that folder go to preferences and find the adobe folder.
Right click on adobe folder and click get info.
In the Sharing & Permissions section there should be three names.
All should say Read & Write next to them.
Unlock the lock, switch them all to read and write.
Then click on the little gear directly under the names or to to the left of the lock and in the pulldown click on "apply to enclosed items.
    Then lock the lock again.
Now go to your OS Hardrive and click on Users, your user name, Documents.
    Find the adobe folder there.
    The lock the lock again.
Wait 1 minute. Then launch Premiere.
    This fixed it for me.

  • Premiere CC/Nvidia Card - could not find any capable video play modules

I just purchased a new Toshiba x75 Qosmio  laptop with an Intel HD Graphics 4600 and Nvidia 770M graphics card.
    Specs:
    Windows 8.1 x64
    Intel i7-4700MQ 2.4Ghz
    16GB Ram
    2 500GB @ SATA 7200RPM
I have CS5 and wanted to use Premiere CC. Downloaded PPCC from Cloud and opened a few projects made on CS5 a couple time s. Had to add card to notebook for the better faster CUDA card to be recognized and all was fine. a few restarts later I recieved an error "Could not find any capable video play modules" and haven't been able to open PPCC since. It stops on Vignette.aex.
Opening Premiere CC was obviously using the intel card, which I I wanted to use the Nvidia so I assigned the better 3GB memory card to PPCC. I was able to open it a few times after.
    I've tried:
Uninstalled and installed PP CC several times.
Uninstalled and installed Nvidia 770M driver several times. updated 770M driver several times.
    changed "use as Administrator"
adding GeForce  GTX 770Mcards" this had to be done to AFX and other programs. It was even recognized in Premiere while I could still open the program (before error started)
tried changing "Compatability" to different previous versions of Windows (found some fixes on adobe threads)
    clearing "Profile-username" in "Documents/Adobe/PremierPro/Profile"
I have read all over Adobe forums, searched google and you tube, and this is a problem that's ongoing. I have not been able to find a definate answer from adobe or anyone else.  Seems people are just throwing ideas out there and some work and some never get their issue resolve and give up. This does not help me resolve the issue and I need a list of To Do's that will help me resolve this issue right away, Please.

What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself

I am having the same problem, just out of the blue. Earlier this week Premiere worked fine, today it stopped in start-up while loading windows media and displayed this message.

  • "could not find any capable video play modules" error with HP Pavillon DV7

There is at least a user reporting issues with I guess the videocard driver, but there is none newer than 2011 available from HP.
The machine has an integrated videocard, and switches when needed on either an nVidia or ATI card, according to the models.
Is there a workaround, should the GPU sniffer be aware, or should HP be notified.

I wouldn't feel comfortable telling you how to access your computer's BIOS if you don't already know what you're doing.  Here's why, as quoted from the linked page that Todd provided:
Important: Changing settings in the BIOS can cause your computer to have other issues, or prevent it from starting up properly. Only perform this solution if you are confident in changing BIOS settings. If you need further assistance changing this setting, contact your computer manufacturer.
