Error encountered when checking for software update!
How come there is an error encountered when I was trying to check for the software update for the iPad? Presently, my iPad is on iOS 6. So I would like to ask if anyone of you here experiencing the same thing or it is just me? And are there any specific reasons for this phenomenon? Thanks for helping me in overcoming this matter. Your efforts will be appreciated.
Now I completely understand what you are trying to do.
There is no update for any of the iPad versions except for the iPad Mini. There was an update released yesterday for the iPad Mini and the iPhone 5 only. If you are running iOS 6.0.1 - you ARE up to date regarding the software.
But - you should still not be getting an error message when you look for the update. You should see this message on the iPad.
If your phone is the iPhone 5 - you should be seeing the update that is available.

my ipad while trying to install updates has stalled it says installing but it is unable to download content??Try rebooting your iPad and then see if you have any success updating.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -

Getting an error message of unable to
check for software update when trying to update to
ios 8.0.2. Can someone help ??Howdy there otss1979,
It sounds like you are unable to download the iOS 8.0.2 update either, over the air, or using iTunes. If you are updating the software on your phone in Settings > General > software update I would recommend starting with this article:
Resolve issues with an over-the-air iOS update
If you are using iTunes, I would use this article instead:
Resolve iOS update and restore errors in iTunes
If you are getting a specific error number, the following article will help you get that resolved:
Resolve iOS update and restore errors
If this does not resolve the issue, could you please write the error message you are getting word for word for me?
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the best,

i wan't update using itunes, i want to make update using my phone, but when check for an update using software update in setting message appear " can't check for update....."?
Reboot the device and see if the error happens again. Updating through iTunes is usually optimal, but the file size differs via Software Update on the device and iTunes (50MB vs ~800MB)

When I check for software updates only itunes and random other updates show up but not security updates or safari update. When i check installed updates I realized my last security update was 2011-004 and I still have safari 5.0.6. Can anyone help me?
Don't panic. OS X 10.5.8 is the most popular PowerPC OS out there. People run it everyday without security breaches, including myself. It isn't Windows!
If you're really that worried, I highly recommend Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition. Supports PowerPC & Intel and Mac OS X 10.4-10.7.

Any idea how to solve this if I haven't activated the 3GS service? I've been doing fine on wireless only.
Steve
Same problem here. After upgrading to iOS 4.2.1 a couple of weeks ago I'm getting the same error as the OP in the first post. I've never activated the 3G service.
I tried turning the cellular service on and checking for updates, pulled and replaced the SIM card, rebooted, nothing helps. I'm still getting the error when I click on the "Check for Update" button in iTunes (v10.1) when my iPad 64GB 3G is connected to my iMac. Any help would be appreciated. TIA. -
AnyConnect hangs when checking for required updates
Several of our customers require us to use Cisco AnyConnect to connect to their computers. I cannot connect to any of them because AnyConnect hangs when checking for required updates. If I start AnyConnect myself, it will eventually (after five minutes) tell me that it cannot connect to a server. If it is started from a web page, AnyConnect hangs forever.
In the past, this error has been random. If I try later, or the next day, it may work. Or it may not.
No customer has been able to give us any support on this issue.
Could you please give me some ideas on how to overcome this problem?
Thank you very much.Disable anti virus software if installed
Make sure the firewall is turned off in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
Make sure Gatekeeper is enabled
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected. If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.

My mac mini is running slow. Bought it in 2009. Activity monitor shows nothing running that should not be. Someone suggested it might be my operating system? Check for software updates, and I am current. Suggestions?
Open Activity Monitor, Show:>All Processes, sort on CPU%, see if anything using too much CPU% when this happens, click on Memory tab, do you have many Pageouts?
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
Check the S.M.A.R.T. status of the drive in Disk Utilty by highlighting the Drive & looking at the bottom of the window. -
ORA-01423: error encountered while checking for extra rows in exact fetch

ORA-01423: error encountered while checking for extra rows in exact fetch
ORA-01722: invalid number
ORA-06512: at "Department.get_emp_name", line 57

Hi
The above are the error messages I am running into and I am not sure what it means at all. I do have a query which select few rows into cursor
cursor c_requested is
select * from departments where emp_id in (1, 2, 3)
now from these rows I again creating a query dynamically
open c_requested;
loop
fetch c_requested into deptID, name, authorized; -- declared variables
exit when c_requested%NotFound;
sqlstring := 'Select name from employees where deptID = ' || deptID || ' and Authorized = ' || authorized;
begin
execute immediate sqlstring into description; -- declared variable
exit;
exception when no_data_found then
description := 'FILTER_OUT';
end;
end loop;
close c_requested;
This code is inside a function get_emp_name(). When I execute this function I am getting the above errors. I really appreciate all your help. Please let me know if you need more information.
Thank you very muchThank you very much damorgan,
I looked through my code and figured out what was wrong. I had a varchar2 column in the table where I was passing a value 999 instead of '999'. Thanks again.
I have one more question. I am using cursor to loop through.. here is my code
rowcount integer;
cursor c_emp is
select * from employees where empID in (....);
begin
open c_emp;
rowcount := c_emp%RowCount;
loop
end loop;
dbms_output.put_line(rowcount);
end;
I am getting rowcount = 0 even though there are many values in it. I am not sure if I am using the where clause properly. Any help would be appreciated.
thank you. -
the software is not updateing on my iphone 4 it saying checking for software update what should i do?
The battery drain issue started when I updated my iphone 4 to the IOS 6.1.2.
The battery will go from 100% to 0% in about 3 hours !!!
I called Apple support and they told me that they are not aware of an issue affecting the battery with the latest update. They did a diagnostic test on my iphone and found that my battery is healthy. Then then recommended that I backup my iphone, restore the factory settings and recover after that. In other words, delete everything off my iphone and reinstall everything all over again. I waisted a couple of hours doing that and .....I still have the issue of the battery drain.
I finally discovered the problem, and thus the solution!
To solve this issue, do the following:
Settings ---> Mail, Contacts, Calendars --->Fetch New Data ---> Advanced
Now click on your hotmail account or your company email account (anything in that folder other than yahoo, gmail or aol),
Change the setting from Push to Fetch !!!
And Viola ! Problem will be solved !
The problem seems to be that the mail exchange (i.e. microsoft, hotmail...etc) keeps checking and pushing emails from the exchange server every second (continiousely) and this is causing the battery to drain.When you change the setting to Fetch, then emails will start downloading every 15 min; but at least your battery will hold charge as it is supposed to do, until Apple comes up with 6.1.3 that hopefully will fix this issue.
Good luck. Hope this works out for you folks hence it sure did work for me this morning and it sure feels great.
Cheers !
