Error extracting CS4 files after download

The download completed successfully.  But when I tried to extract the files, I got the same error others have encountered, with a message stating that I lack write permissions or sufficient free disk space.  Neither one is an issue.  Running Vista x64, SP1, and all latest patches.  Simply trying to extract to c:\temp.  That is a directory I regularly use for extracting files to an launching installations.  The directory was empty before I started this process.  Have not had any issues on this machine with CS3 or Lightroom.
I deleted the files that were extracted, and deleted the downloaded files, and started over.  I got the same error.
I then used Winzip to try extracting manually.  After successfully extracting a large number of files, Winzip encounters this error:
Extracting Adobe CS4\extensions\AdobePhotoshop11-en_US\Assets\_12_f72882b07c2d47ae1f8200a12bbce0c0  Data error
I have filed a support case on this issue.  I made a post here for a couple of reasons:
Perhaps someone knows a solution that I have not yet been able to find.
After I (hopefully) get a resolution from Support, I will post it here, as I found several threads on this, but did not see any clear resolutions.  Hopefully I can help someone out.

And it has now started working.  I don't mean that the files downloaded earlier will extract properly.  I mean when I download now, I get a set of files that can be extracted properly and installed.
Something changed at some point today.  I tried downloading again a couple hours after my earlier attempts that I made posts about.  At that time, the download link had stopped working.  Specifically, the link was redirecting to itself, causing an endless loop of making the same HTTP request over and over.
Tried again about 20 minutes ago, and the download link was working again.  And the set of files I got have successfully extracted and installed.
It appears that something was wrong with the files earlier, they made some changes (and while that was happening, the DL link was broken), and that the files now at the d/l server are fine.  Just an educated guess on my part, based on what I have seen.
But...it works now.  Thanks for the replies.

  • Problems extracting LR5.6  upgrade files after download

    Hello!
I've just completed installing a LR5 upgrade from a DVD.
After this, I downloaded the latest upgrade which i this case was is LR5.6.
My problem is that I am unable to extract the files in the upgrade.
I just get a message from the installer telling me that there is a problem extracting some files and to check that there is enough memory on my computer. The message also suggest to check that I am authourized to use the target folder for the extraction.
I've reinstalled LR5, I've tryed downloading a new upgradefolder several times, I've tryed extracting it in different folders.
There is enough memory and my computer system meets the requirements. (I'am the administrator of course.)
    Anybody has a solution?
    Thanks in advance!

PS below is an image of the message I get when trying to extract files (in swedish though).

    Hello Jeff!
    And thanks for your answer.
Yes i've tried extracting/installing both updates (5.5 and 5.6). The outcome was the same in both cases. Same message with 5.6 as the one in my screenshot.
There is some information in this but I can't figure out what it is.

Felix2 from your screen shot it appears you are attempting to download and extract the Lightroom 5.5 update/installer.  Do you receive the same error downloading the 5.6 update at Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.6?  Each update contains the full installer so you do not need to have a previous version of Lightroom installed prior to installing Photoshop Lightroom 5.6.

I noticed it says that there is no login.html fiel, but that;s not true. I do have one login.html file. I have tried everything and I am using PicoZip (30 day free version) to tar the file. I was able to do it once, but then I needed to modify the page and since then I have not been successfull. Any help would be greatly appreciate it.
    Cheers!

All - problem ahs been solved. This is how I did it jsut in case someone else runs into the same issue. I noticed that the login.html file had a firefox icon (firefox was my defualt browser) I uninstalled firefox and archive the fiel again and boom -success . Weird, right? well I don't know if that was the issue, but it got resolved so you you run into the same issue, maybe is worth a try.

  • Malware - Safari users - disable Open"safe" files after downloading

For those not aware there's some malware floating around which goes by the name of MacDefender and other variants.
It's a scam that may show a page suggesting 'virus' infection on the user's machine and/or download an installer file.
Visiting malicious sites or apparently just browsing some Google Images searches will automatically download a zipped file.  If the Safari Preference to Open "safe" files after downloading is checked it will unzip and run the installer for the malware.
While installing requires user intervention to click through the installation, the most recent variant will apparently install for a user without needing an administrator password.
Once installed the malware apparently opens unsavoury websites randomly and prompts for credit card details to remove them.
This is unpleasant scareware to steal your credit card info.
    Beware.

  • My Safari can´t open .dmg files after downloading

I updated to Mac OS X 4.9. But since this update, Safari cannot open .dmg files after downloading! On 10.4.8 it was not a problem. What can I do?
    eMac G4 PPC   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Darn...I thought that would do the trick.
Given the other problems you mention, more and more, it seems a reinstall of the OS, using Archive and Install is going to be necessary. Have you ever done an Archive & Install of the OS? Important you carefully read the description of the process. If you are uncertain, I find the Take Control Upgrading to Tiger E-zine to be a very helpful guide.
Once you reinstall the OS, then you can upgrade to 10.4.8 using the combo update, repairing permissions via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder when complete.
One question: Not sure why you have run into all these problems on the 10.4.9 upgrade. It worked without problem for me. Anything unusual happen during the install?

  • Safari won't open docx files after download

The "open safe files after download" button is checked.  I unchecked it, shutdown safari, rechecked it and it still isn't working.

How do I get that file type on the "safe to open" list?
I'm not sure there is any way to do that, and if there is, I wouldn't recommend it, because Word files are not necessarily safe to open -- they can include harmful macros. You can try the suggestion linked below, but I haven't tested it.

  • Unchecking  'Open "safe files after downloading' not working

After unchecking "Open 'safe files after downloading'", files open anyway and do not download to the specified directory (Safari 2.0.4). Instead, I am forced to preview them, and have to manually save. I had this option unchecked on my Powerbook G4 (Safari 1.3.2), and it worked without problems. Any suggestions?

I'm geussing you're using Safari as your internet browser? Try Firefox as a browser. It will allow you to view PDF documents in the browser itself, without downloading the document to your Download folder and it doesn't require Adobe to do so.

  • "Open safe files after downloading" option stopped working

    Hello,
the safari "Open safe files after downloading" stopped working. Even when is checked, it doesn't open anything, no jpgs, no dmgs, no zips. Not sure what could've happened. I installed the new Safari 4.03 update and Speed download today. Any ideas what may be causing this problem? Thank you

    Hi Steve
One suggestion is to create via the Finder a specific download folder for your attachments. Then in the Finder, drag the folder to the sidebar. Now in Mail, when you save the attachment, simply click on the sidebar location to facilitate the save. Then, go to the Finder, click on the sidebar folder for easy access to the attachment. Remember too, Mail attachment save feature gives you the option of directly importing any images into iPhoto.

  • Problems extracting Lightroom5_6 upgrade files after download

    Hello!

    Hej Dave,
    And thanks for your tips!
I've actually tryed both the update 5,5 and the 5,6 with the same result and the screenshot just happened to be for 5,5.
I've now also tryed extracting the the updatefile using both winrar and winzip but the problem is that it is an exe-file (program file).
So no luck there and I dont know of any software that "extracts" / unfolds a program file. Do you know of any such software?
    Thanks anyway

  • Unable to open existing PDF files after downloading Adobe reader

I have an Advent 7085 PC with Windows XP Home version 2002 service pack 2. After downloading the latest Adobe Reader 8 I cannot open any of my existing PDF files, nor can I open any new ones. I have several times downloaded it, tried it and found it doesn't work so have then deleted it from the system and rebooted. Downloaded again only for the same thing to happen again. Error message says that Adobe Reader 8.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close. Then I am advised to let microsoft know of this problem.
Please!!! Is there anybody out there who knows what the problem might be and help me resolve it?
    Thanks
    IG

I finally called tech support and this is what we did and it worked for me...First go to start/control panel/add&remove programs. Once the program list is configured, hilite Adobe reader and select remove. Once the program is removed, from the control panel select user accounts. Set up a new user account "test". Through user "test" go into www.adobe.com and select icon to download adobe reader. You do not need to run media player, remove check unless you want to download it. After program is downloaded and copied you can close out of adobe. At that point I was able to open my PDF files without any error message. Tech advised me to keep the "test" user set up, doesn't hurt anything to have it there. He told me that there probably was some settings under my user account that was causing a glitch in the download and that is why we opted to download through a new user account. BTW the tech support was free if you still can't get it to work. Good Luck

  • Experiencing corrupted / unreadable files after download

I have a quad core mac pro running snowleopard.  Recently I've noticed that I've been having more and more files be unreadable after having been downloaded over the internet.  This happens both after downloading from an internet browser, downloading through a 3rd party downloader client (Continuata), as well as syncing with Dropbox.
Given the increasing frequency in which I am encountering unreadable files (i.e. when you try to open or move a file and you get a finder error that says the operation can't be completed because the file cannot be read error -36).
From what I've read this can be due to either software problems or hardware issues.  From my personal experience I get the feeling I'm probably dealing with a hardware problem, but I not sure where to start.  Most of my problems DO seem to occur on a single internal hard drive, but the diagnostic tests I've run speak nothing but love for the health of the drive (disk utility repair, various Drive Genius 3 tools).
Further information:  I use dropbox and sync many times a day with other peoples shared folders.  I also use Synergy, the mouse/keyboard sharing over the network software (and it's slightly buggy).
I've repaired permissions a bunch of times, never had any problems to be repaired.  Nor have I had any problems to be repaired when I do repair disk.
Is it possible my network adapter might be going?  Or some other internal hardware component on the motherboard?

Mac Pro 65lb tower uses Error Corecting Code (ECC) Memory, so memory problems are not your issue, or you would be getting kernel panic, machine check.
The individual data blocks on Disk are recorded using an error-correcting code. Simple problems are corrected on the fly, serious problems cause big delays and an I/O Error.
The communications interfaces use error detection codes, and errors there would cause re-transmission. Repeated problems would slow your connection and eventually cause errors.
The most likely problem is the type that will be fixed by Disk Utility (Repair Disk). That is, if the free list is incorrect, and a block gets inadvertatly re-used before its time.
This also could be a problem with "crazy software". If you tend to load up your machine with lots of third-party gadgets, you will make it unstable.
