Error getting license e auth bad device key or pkcs12
Hi,
I've been getting the above error when trying to download an ebook.
Some forums suggest erasing authorization and then uninstalling, reinstalling and reauthorizing dgital editions.
When I try erase authorization I get another error to say unable to erase authorization at this time, please try again after some time.
Does anyone have any advice?
I would appreciate any help. It was working fine last week.
Thank you in advance, Rachel.

Get error message e auth bad device key or pkcs12
windows 8 os did a system restore then when I tried to download a book from my library I get error message
e auth bad device key or pkcs12
It was working fine before the restoreHow To Change the Authorized Adobe ID
http://www.adobe.com/go/digital-editions-createID
What do you do if your copy of Adobe Digital Editions is authorized with the wrong Adobe ID? This can happen if you’ve started using a different Adobe ID or you somehow messed up the authorization in the past.
If you’re trying to open an ebook when Adobe Digital Editions is authorized with the wrong Adobe ID, you’ll get an error message like: “License fulfilled by a different user” or something similar referencing licensing or authorization.
Important note: If you have some ebooks that do require your current authorization, those will become unreadable if you authorize with a different Adobe ID.
deauthorize
The first thing to do is deauthorize Adobe Digital Editions. This will remove your current authorization.
1. Open Adobe Digital Editions
2. On your keyboard, simultaneously press the Ctrl, Shift, and D buttons (if on Windows) or the Cmd, Shift, and D buttons (if on a Mac)
3. Click the “Deauthorize” button
After this you should close Adobe Digital Editions, and then open it again.
re-authorize
If you’ve followed the steps above, your copy of Adobe Digital Editions is no longer authorized.
Open Adobe Digital Editions
Adobe Digital Editions will behave as if you’ve just installed it, and will prompt you to enter your login information for your Adobe ID. Use the Adobe ID account information that you want to use to authorize Adobe Digital Editions. -
Getting following error when trying to download ebooks: E-AUTH-BAD-DEVICE-KEY-OR-PKCS12
I AM TRYING TO USE A GLOWLIGHT I JUST PURCHASED, BUT KEEP GETTING ERROR: E-AUTH-BAD-DEVICE-KEY-OR-PKCS12. Can you tell me what I need to do to correct this problem?
Some ebook sellers use the Adobe DRM mechanism, but rather than relying on the Adobe ID for authorization have their own Vendor ID (their own user/password).
You could be able to read your old books but not the new one if all the old books used the Adobe ID, but the new one used a separate Vendor ID.
Check with the ebook seller if you should be using a separate Vendor ID.
ADE1.7.2 does not support different vendor IDs. V2.0 does, but I am not sure exactly how to get it to do so.
The user guide says ' The best way to do this is to supply an Adobe ID or Vendor ID, associating the book with your ID.',
but doesn't say how to do this. -
ADE 2 and now 3 won't take .acsm file. Code E auth bad device key
Did reauthorization per threads on this site. get msg code E auth bad device key. used to work fine for past year. Installed V3. Same result. What gives???
This seems like a pretty big failure for Adobe. There ought to be a post from Adobe explaining exactly what to do without going thru all this trouble.I'm going to take a guess here, based on the process you said you went
through. Here's hoping it's helpful.
I suspect that the copy of ADE you downloaded is not going to let you
register it with Adobe. This happens sometimes when the various
ebooksellers try to give you a link to a download address, and the software
you download isn't 'legit' for one reason or another. Ebooksellers and
others who want to put a link out there should be going to Adobe to get the
right link. Some don't.
Next up, Digital Editions works only on Windows and Macs. It does not work
- or load - on Android devices such as a smartphone. I've seen a couple of
postings to the forum that say they have a file on their smartdevice that
looks like Digital Editions - sometimes complete with the DE logo. They're
bogus in the sense that they are not code from Adobe.
My suggestion is go use your computer's utilities to copy the ebook you
downloaded to a safe place, and then deinstall the copy of Digital Editions
you loaded. Then, go to the Adobe website, create an Adobe ID that's
separate from the one you've used already, and download a fresh copy of the
software. BTW: ADE creates a small ID file for each ebook it downloads and
appends it to the ebook. To make things easy, make up an Adobe ID instead
of using your email address. That way, if you change email addresses,
you'll still be able to get to your ebooks.
When you deinstall ADE, there may be some scraps hanging around. Use your
computer's utilities to delete the Digital Editions folder and all of its
entries. Look to see that your registry files have been purged as well: if
you're a Windows user, you can use the Add/Delete Programs utility in the
Control Panel to do this.
Good luck - and report back

Hi, I bought an e-book in PDF format that uses Adobe DRM. I've created an account on adobe.com and tried downloading the book in Adobe Digital Editions on the Mac (as well as the bookstore's e-reader--logged into my Adobe account--on an Android device).
It tries to download the book but get's the following error:
Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem:
E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TYPE_UNKNOWN:
Has anyone come across this? Any guidance would be most appreciated!
Thanks!

Recieving error message: Error getting license Error E_GOOGLE_DEVICE_LIM
I finally made to the point where im ready to transfer my books but when i go into my account on google books and click download epub to transfer them to ADE it opens ADE and I get
Error getting license
Error E_GOOGLE_DEVICE_LIMIT_REACHED
the issue is that i have never used this thing before so i dont understand how it can be full or if that is even what it is referring toVery frustrated with this. I get the same error. Adobe Chat support told me that I still have one activation left, and because of that they could not reset my user id. They also told me that because Digital Editions is a "free" software then they couldn't provide support and referred me to these forums.
I had read elsewhere (Google perhaps), that Adobe needed to reset the user id for this error to be fixed. So I spoke with someone at Google over the weekend and they said that they sent a request to Adobe to have them reset my user id; however, apparently I still have one device activation available, and so the Adobe Chat representative would have reset my user id but would not because of that one remaining activation available.
I've deactivated this device and reactivated it, and this gives me no problems and says I can now read ebooks and transfer them amongst devices... but when I try to load ebooks that I PURCHASED it gives me this same error, and I am unable to do what the supposed activated device says that I can do.
So... even when activations are available, it seems that there is something in Adobe's user id server information that thinks otherwise, so it doesn't let you download and read the ebooks. I do not believe that users can change this from their end, and it's not a software or user device problem either.
Honeslty, this is the worse ebook reading system that I know of. Amazon Kindle does not have this issue at all... so it's something that Adobe just simply doesn't care about, even when customers are buying ebooks that use this software which Adobe offers for "free" and offers no support for.
If anyone knows how to fix this PLEASE let me and others know.
Thanks. -
When I try to download books I purchased from Kobo I get the following error message: Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E IO CANNOT OPEN.
I've spent hundred of dollars on books that I can't get access to! How can I fix this?I've been having the same issue! I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling ADE but that hasn't helped; I've even created a new Adobe ID and that was also a fruitless venture. I haven't yet tried to unauothorize my device, but I am hesitant to do so as it seems that others have tried and have not succeeded. I am desperately caught in the middle of a series and I would love to have access to the new books that I've been trying to download from my library!

I bought & downloaded a book from Google Play and when I open the .acsm file in ADE, I get the message 'Error getting license. License server communication problem: E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TYPE_UNKOWN:'
How do I solve this? I downloaded another book from Google play the same day and that downloaded fine after opening the .acsm file.
I'm using Windows 7.
I contacted Google regarding this, but they directed me here. Any help appreciated.
Thanks
MarkWhat I did was deauthorized and reauthorized my ADE, both the device and computer. It worked. I was able to download my books onto my e-reader. Here is a link to what I did Deauthorizing and reauthorizing Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 on your computer and your reader | Washington County Coopera…
I would think that it shouldn't matter if the ADE is 2.0 or 3.0. -
Login keychain and Error getting license
I am working with students using Digital Editions and have heard of 2 main issues/error messages. The first says "unable to download, Error getting License" (the book has already been fulfilled by another user) and the second issue is "Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 wants to use the "Login" keychain" and it asks for a keychain password.
Each book 'instance' can only be used on a single Adobe ID.
The .acsm file is a token for the book, and is not initially specific to any particular ID.
Once it has been used to download a DRM .epub file, both the .acsm and the .epub are locked to that ID.
Attempts to use the same .acsm for a user on a different id will quite correctly give a '(the book has already been fulfilled by another user)' message.
The ID can be shared by up to 6 devices at a time.
Once used, the .acsm/.epub can never be transferred to a different ID.
~~
I am not at all sure about the login keychain. -
So far there have been two threads discussing the same issue:
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1626996
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1077350
Up to now, no reply received from Adobe team.
I have purchased an ebook from Kobo.com & downloaded the .acsm file there.
However, when I tried to open URLLink.acsm in ADE, it won't download the actual
ebook. Instead, I get the pop up error message above.
