Error Headstart in combination Designer 6, Developer 6 HELP

We have upgraded to Desigener 6.0 and Developer 6.0 (patch 6).
All the pll's compile when (qmslib50, qmsevh50), the generation of a small application in Designer 6 (was first in Designer 2.1.2) went well.
When we run the forms we get the following error "FRM-40733 PL/SQL Build in DBMS_ERROR_TEXT failed. I'm searching for two days and haven't come up with a solution
Please help !?

You are probably using an Oracle 8.1.5 database an running against Oracle RDBMS problem report 966970. Oracle Support has tested
it against an 8.1.6 database and there the problem is fixed. There is also a workaround available for 8.1.5, see the Headstart discussion
forum on OTN and look at the e-mails of Cheryl Riley (thanks Cheryl). I suggest however that you move to 8.1.6.

  • How do you Design and Develop?

How do you Design and Develop?
I know this varies based on alot of things such as knowledge, preference, purpose, resources, etc..but I am curious how different (level of expertise) designers actually prefer or implement their websites. I decided to do this post after two different forums discussions regarding 1.Templates and PHP and 2. Backend Development.
    1. How do you generally approach a project?--Wireframe, Freehand (as it comes), PSD template, etc.--Do you have a specific 'methodology' or procedure?
    2. What are 2-3 of your main resources / sites / applications etc that you use (and for what?)
Specifically: What do you use (and how) to get up a website? (I know again this depends on a variety of things, but in general..) *also if you would like to comment on your expertise or level maybe helpful.
Do you prefer (Pros/ Cons of:) What advice would you give regarding below?
Your own HTML/CSS/Script based site that you mostly (if not completley) built. (More control and original, but harder / tedious for beginner)
HTML Temlplate (tweak the HTML and CSS)--non framework type (Quick and easy, but usually poor quality, outdated?)--but some can servde as good starting point.
Wordpress (And others like Drupal, Joomla) (Somewhat quick and easy access to tweak a quality WP Theme with ability for alot of features--forms, search, databases, etc (otherwise might have trouble with advanced features w/o good working knowledge og PHP and MYSQL, maybe others?)--but kind of a 'workaround' for real HTML design?
Frameworks types like Foundation, Bootstrap, Skeleton
A combination or hybrid of methods? -- or another method I have overlooked?
Thanks very much for any insight you can offer, hopeully this will lead to a vibrant discussion.-

The websites I build are 95% PHP/MySQL. They are heavy on business logic. I sometimes work with designers, SEO "experts" and (rarely) other coders. I almost never work on the content of websites. The clients do that themselves through the CMS I build for them.
I write every line of code myself except for the use of jQuery and a few PHP code classes adapted from others. I can build a complex website in a matter of minutes by reusing the code libraries and patterns I have developed from previous projects.
I don't use a PHP framework because I have developed my own "pseudo-framework" for the particular kinds of sites I build, but I respect the frameworks that are out there. They can teach you excellent coding habits.
In starting the design and logic of a site, the most essential question is: What is the website (or website project) supposed to accomplish? My clients tell me what they want to accomplish, but I usually decide how to get there. This holds for both business logic and design, because design also must serve the business objectives.
My website projects generally take four months to two years to complete. The client usually dedicates one employee to work as a liaison between me and the rest of the company. Because the sites I build are heavy on the business logic, a great deal of time is spent on testing and debugging. I make testing the responsibility of the client so I can't be held liable if, for instance, a terrible accounting mistake is discovered in the code logic.
I like to use Adobe Illustrator for design development because I became an Adobe Illustrator ACE in 2000; however, I can see that Fireworks is probably the better tool. Photoshop is an important secondary tool.
For general site management and code writing I use both Dreamweaver and ZEND Studio; however, I use Dreamweaver less and less.
I now require all my clients to have their websites (and also domain name registrations, since my company is a domain name reseller) hosted on my VPS server. This prevents anyone from stealing code I have worked for years to develop and also establishes a commitment between myself and the client. When you are starting a web development business, you can't demand this kind of commitment from the client. Even a lot of great seasoned developers can't. It depends on your reputation within the specific industry(ies) you service.

  • Web Design and Developer Online Training Library

    HI There,
I purchased CS4 Design premium back in September with the hope of learning all of the software and specifically to design websites through online tutorials and or books.  I've done many of the training videos at lynda.com, and although they are great, I feel I need more structure.
That being said, I've been looking into online courses on web design, and most of the decent ones I've found are in the $5000-$7000 range, and although I'm willing, I'd rather not spend that much money if I can help it.
Has anyone tried the Web Design and Developer Online training Library offered through Adobe.com?
Has anyone taken any (relatively inexpensive) worthwhile courses?
Right now I have a mish-mash set of skills with dreamweaver photoshop and illustrator.  I can build websites but 90% of my time is spent on trial and error.  I want to have a firm understanding of the programs.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated
    thanks very much

  • Where's the Designer SDK developer guide?

I'm doing some testing to see how hard it would be to programmatically build a universe based on our existing meta data.  I'm able to open existing universes, but I'm having trouble exporting.  When I call Universes.Export(), I get an exception that simply states, "Unable to export universe."
Why is the Designer SDK the only SDK without a developer guide?
Can anybody provide me with some sample code that builds a new universe and exports it (preferably in C#).
    Thanks,
    -- Trey

    Hello Deepti,
Thank you for your response.  However, that page doesn't have a link to the Designer SDK Developer Guide.  I've found this page: https://boc.sdn.sap.com/developer/library
Notice that the only SDK without a developer guide is the Designer SDK.  I'm really starting to wonder how much it is actually used.
Like I mentioned in my previous post, I can open existing universes, but I'm having trouble exporting.  I just get an ambiguous error message stating that it "cannot export universe".  The documentation is not up to date with the API I'm using.  I'm seeing that the method signatures have changed on a few of the methods.  Plus, it appears that some of the methods need to be called in a specific order for them to succeed.  Without the source or good documentation, the task is pretty frustrating.
I'm trying to create a universe programmatically and then export it.  Anybody have a code example?

  • Designer and Developer 6.0 on PO 8i

    Hello everybody,
Does anybody know if Designer and Developer 6.0 work correctly on Personal Oracle 8i?
    Thanks in advance,
    Renato

You have just try to enter the tcp-loopback in the connection string in the logon dialog when you want to connect to the database. This connection is defined in the tnsnames.ora file. Which contains all the type of the connection.
In the installation, you have to install Personal Oracle8i in a different home than Oracle Developer6. Both of them will work fine in a sperate directory. I installed them on Windows98 and they are working fine.
One more thing. Make sure the listener of the database is working. You can modify the entry in the registry (LISTNER_STARTUP) to AUTO, so whenever you run Windows98 the listner will be executed automatically. You CAN NOT not connect to the database if you did not start up the listner
    I hope this help you

You'll need a Mac with a support OS X and tools to complete the process.

  • Separating Design from Development

    Dear Adobe,
This is my first post on your Labs forums. I just finished playing with the new CS4 -> Flash Catalyst -> Flash Builder workflow and have to say: I am inspired but not impressed. As mainly an AJAX and Cocoa developer, I had to learn AS3 syntax and MXML markup as I went along. I will list my three biggest problems with Catalyst and Builder below.
    Design still mingles with Logic
When I first saw Catalyst and Builder, I was excited to finally see a real separation of code and design. I was expecting Catalyst to be the OSX "Interface Builder" of flex, and Builder to be the "XCode." I do like the <fx:Script /> <fx:Declarations /> and <fx:Design /> separation in each MXML document, but feel as if the <fx:Design /> segment should somehow be "off limits" to developers (or at least discouraged). If Catalyst was only allowed to edit the Design segment of the MXML and Builder only edited the Script and Declarations segments then leaner coding practice could be achieved and true interoperability between Designer and Developer would be reachable.
Please allow for custom transitions and transition copying/grouping
At the moment, Catalyst strikes me as an extremely dumbed down version of Flash that only lets the designer use preset "transitions" on their component heirarchy. This is suboptimal in two ways: Firstly, if the designer wants anything more complex than a linear move + Rotate3D + fade, they will have to just give up the UI to the developer. We are trying to avoid having the developer write UI code, so the designer should be able to really get creative with their transitions and animations without having to create swcs or swfs in Flash IDE. Secondly, there is no way to save a transition and apply it to elements of the same type. Layouts are often very repetitive and it is inhumane to expect a designer to sit there and drag out "transition" sliders for each dropdown on a page (for example). I agree that this scripting should be done in a GUI like Catalyst, but components need to be able to inherit transitions. I don't even want to imagine a GUI for such a thing, but you are Adobe, this is what you guys do!
Allow us to export to either Air or SWF at build-time, not at import!
I don't see why this isn't already enabled. Isn't Air supposed to have even more features than Flash? Couldn't Flash Builder just scan your project and warn you of any "air-only" libraries you are using? If you choose not to use anything other than the standard Flash 10 libraries, what would be the harm in giving us the option to export as either at build-time?
I hope that my comments were somewhat useful. Before anybody responds with hostility: I am not a professional Flex developer. This was my first time playing around with the Flex framework and with Catalyst <-> Interface Builder, these were my first impressions.
Thanks for producing such amazing products--
    --Jordan
P.S. Your spell checker converts all ":D"s to .. As in <fx:Design /> to <fxesign />.. Made me chuckle

Wow! Thanks for the in-depth response! It's always nice to see that even at such a huge company, you are all still human beings!
I watched Ely's talk on Skins in Flex. I liked how fx:Skin is a completely separate class, even though fx:Design  kinda has it covered already. What's the difference? I am sure you will incorporate "skins" into the next release of Catalyst, so why not keep Skins and Design layouts in completely separate files? I wouldn't mind seeing a C-like setup where each MXML page has a "header file" with object definitions that both the Skin file and Logic file can access. The alternative to this multiple file setup is, of course, just having multiple sections of code inside the MXML file (like you already do). My only gripe with keeping logic and design in the same file is that as soon as you open up an MXML document to a developer's little paws, you immediately render it useless in a GUI program like Catalyst. If the developer is strongly encouraged to   bind event listener and data providers in the "script" partition (using AS3), the MXML could be left untouched so that Catalyst could update the UI. My concern for separating design from logic stems from my experience as a Rails developer where mixing "logic" and "html" is essentially taboo. I suppose in a front-end app where the GUI is what matters most, true separation isn't imperitive. Yet if you want to poise Catalyst->Flash Builder as an application development tool, I would almost expect it!
Speaking of expectance, I was practically sure someone would flame me for comparing Flex to Cocoa. Upon further thought, Cocoa was probably not the best example I could've chosen. In fact, I don't know of a single application framework which forces separation between logic and UI in any stringent way so that both UI and Logic development can be improved. Why shouldn't Flex be the first?
As for the animation and transitions, Catalyst is currently a tool for grouping artwork into "components" (objects), messing with their "properties" (attributes), and adding "Actions and Transitions" (simple event handlers and calls to transition handlers). While re-naming objects to components, attributes to properties, and event handlers to actions is a-ok, I don't see why the full power of object oriented design can not be unleashed to the average designer. I know there has been a lot of talk on these forums about adding CSS-like properties to components: by unleashing OO architecture into GUILand, you can kill two birds with one stone.
I believe, for example, that the average designer is intelligent enough to understand that they can create one "parent" piece of artwork (let's say for buttons on a menu), and then slightly modify (extend) that never-displayed parent to produce their buttons in Catalyst. This way, if the designer decides that every button in the menu needs to brighten when rolled over, he/she can simply add the effect to the parent artwork. A nice little GUI to the artwork inheritance structure would be needed, but I believe that such an edition would yield great power to the designers. Hey, it's certainly more humane than having to reconfigure transitions and effects for every single component!
While I'm at it (I'm having too much fun here!), why not allow designers to save transitions in their own sort of structure. Let us say the designer creates the blinky transition for the main menu button rollover, instead of binding the transitions directly to individual layers, he or she could define more general "sub components" that could be bound later. So the Transiton object here would simply state that the "Front Plate" fades to 50% opacity for 2 seconds. The designer could then apply the transition to any component in the project and just specifying what the "Front Plate" is each time. This is similar to how Catalyst currently handles custom text fields and scroll-bars, you just specify which layers do what, and it "magically" hooks it all up.
The ability to quickly export my SWF as an air app would allow me to more easily explore Air development. That's all. So I guess my answer to you is "Yes."
In all, I really do feel like the new Flex workflow really shows potential. If developers support you, I see no reason why next generation web-centric applications would be written in anything else. If Flex can unify design and application development, it has the ability to take boiler plate looking desktop apps to the next level. I just don't think that taking away features is the way to achieve this.
    Respectfully-

  • How to design and develop Cost center with SAP BPC 5.1 ?

    Hi all,
Can any one tell me how to design and develop cost center planning (what are the steps to follow) using SAP BPC 5.1?
    Thanks,
    Sandy

    Hi Sandeep,
1:We need to look at whether cost center planning is tied to a profit center level and/or to a company code level
2:We could have dimensions like Account(which in this case would reflect cost element),category, entity, time with additional dimension s like profit center(cost centers can have a direct mapping to profit center, usage of properties would help in here),WBS ,projects, investment position id's etc.
3:We could look at different applications like HR(pay roll related expenses),admin, capex(to bring in depreciation values) etc to bring in data to pull in data to different cost centers either directly or via script logic(usage of destination_app)
4:For those values not tied up to profit centers ,we would look at allocating/distributing the expenses to different cost elements
5:We need to decide whether we do the planning on a monthly/periodic vs yearly level where in we would look at actual values and incrementing at a certain % to fill in as the base for our planning(using category=actual/plan plus timeperiods). We could look at Top down vs botton up approach as well to segregate the planned costs
6:Consideration should be made at security level to identify/restrict different users who needs to access specific cost centers
Yes,this is just a small jist of structure, there are 100's of other considerations which would come into picture from a business requirement level.

  • "VI has error of type 1002288.The full development version of LabVIEW is required to fix the errors"

    Hi,
I had created an executable in LabVIEW 8.6 on a windows XP 32 bit PC. The application uses some Vision VIs. The executable runs in most of the PCs except one. the PC is a windows 7 64bit. Initially i got the error "Labview Load error code 3: could not load front panel". I fixed this by changing the source file settings in the application builder. Now i am getting the error "VI has error of type 1002288.The full development version of LabVIEW is required to fix the errors" and the exe shows a broken run button.
But if i build the exe in the same PC i get no errors and it works fine. Moreover i have tested this exe in a different PC with the same configuration, it works there. I have tried reinstalling labview in the PC the problem still persists.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Rajshekar.
    > Which version of LabVIEW are you using on PC with Win7 64bit? would like to check if there are any issues with LV2009 32bit on 64bit OS..
          - The version of Labview on the win7 64bit PC is also lv8.6 full development system.
    > Do you get the same error on the other PC with same config(Win7) when running the .exe generated using LV 8.6 on WinXP 32bit? just to make sure the problem is with OS or LV..
          - the same problem occured at one more PC with the same configuration. but when i tested in an another PC of the same config it worked i am not able to isolate and decide that the error is based on one particular PC config.
I have listed the environments in which application ran and how the application was put in to the PC.
I would also like you to know that i have created an installer for the exe. I am also using NI vision in my application and this is the error "An error occured loading VI 'IMAQ GetImagePixelPtr'. LabVIEW load error code 3: could not load front panel"....and rest is what i said in my previous post
    1. Use the installer to install the application.
    2. just copy the exe created in LV 8.6 into a PC that already has LV development system installed in it
    3. The PCs might either be a blank one with no history of LV installed in them
    4. The PCs might have diffrent versions of LV development systems installed in them (8.2,8.5,8.6,2009)
All PCs that have LV development system(s) installed in them, was able to run the application except the one with win7 64, where i have tried uninstalling all NI software and use only the installer to install, install LV 8.6 full development system and try runnning the exe, nothing works.
    Thanks

In general, designers tend to change their design to satisfy needs required by customers or technicians.
Is ODMr able to find which design parameters are most contributive to the performance of a product?
Is it ok to use Decision Tree if I have hypothesis space for desing parameters and training data?

I would think if you are going to run both of those programs at the same time, or even one at a time, a system with discrete graphic would be a better fit for you.
The next question is if you are doing web design do you really need a retina display. At this time only apple has them so everyother computer viewing your web designs wouldn't see the difference, if there is any to begin with.
