Error - I have attempted to login too many times

Anyone else had this? It asks me wait a few mins, but it has been hours now.
It looks like some sort of problem with the app to me.

Hi Tony - Thanks for the reply
Did it clear itself, or did people have to change servers?
Steve

  • IChat Leopard "attempted to login too many times" message

    I'm getting the "attempted to login too many times" message when I try to use AIM on ichat. I tried switching to 443, but no luck. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

    You can wait until iChatAgent disappears for the Activity Monitor before deleting the .plists
    I am not sure why it will not let you Force Quit or rather confirm a Force Quit.

  • IChat Error: "attempted to login too many times" problem/solution

    *I don't know if its okay to post a new topic/question then answer it, but i was having this issue and finally found a resolution so i wanted to share it with everyone.*
    _*Your problem:*_ You Log into ichat then it suddenly begins to act crazy- logging in and out multiple times for no apparent reason... then its gives you the message, yes THE message "You have attempted to login too often in a short period of time. Wait a few minutes before trying to login again".
    You silently think to yourself, "w.t.f". lol.
    Okay, well different things worked for different people, it just depends on the time, the moment, and whether or not ichat wants to act right...
    SOLUTIONS:
    1. Change to SSL
    Go to iChat Menu --> Preferences --> Accounts --> Server Settings --> then check "Use SSL"
    2. Use Port 443
    iChat--> Preferences--> Server Settings --> Use port "443"
    3. Delete the user from my ichat accounts, by pressing the minus sign. Then waiting a couple minutes just to make sure that I would not get the logged in too many times error and re added the account.
    *4. THIS SHOULD MOST Definitely WORK:
    1.) Quit iChat if it is already open, and then open Finder.
    2.) Browse to your user folder (can be found by clicking on your main hard drive, then going to Users > Your Username.
    3.) Open the Library folder and go to the Preferences directory.
    4.) You’ll see a long list of files with a .plist extension. The one we’re looking for is com.apple.iChat.AIM.plist. When you find it, delete it by dragging the file to the trash.
    5.) Launch iChat and this time you should be able to sign in to your AIM account successfully. iChat will automatically rebuild the preference file you deleted.
    _*More INFO:*_
    Now some people may wonder "Why is this happening to me" I'll tell you why:
    The cause of the issue most likely roots from using your Mac at multiple locations (such as home, school, or work), which could lead to the preference files somehow getting corrupted. It sounds serious, but really shouldn't take more than a minute or so to resolve. Just follow the above steps...
    I wish I could take credit for all these, btu I just pulled them from different sites and forums, including forums.macrumers.com and macyourself.com
    I hope this helps someone out there Good Luck.
    Oh and feel free to add other ways to fix this weird issue.

  • You have attempted to login too often...

    We recently got Wi-fi set up in our house, since then ichat will not work. I will log in and it shows that none of my friends are online, then after about 2 or 3 minutes Ichat will log out then log in rapidly on its own. Then I get a message that says. "You have attempted to login too often in a short period of time. wait a few minutes before trying to login again." Then when I try to login again the same thing happens. can anyone help?

    Hi,
    It can be for a Number of reasons.
    One speculation is that the AIM servers get busy with AIM and ICQ members and now BEBO all using the same port. (not to mention all the apps that can log into AIM and the AOL ISP Browser that can IM)
    As iChat uses port 5190 on the TCP Protocol to Login but uses port 5190 on UDP to Send Files, Pics in Chats & Direct Messaging and certain Buddy List updates Buddies coming and going) - some routers and modems that route do not seem to like this double use of port 5190 (it certainly effects Zyxels devices).
    Sort of related, with Devices set up to Port Forward, a port can normally only be forwarded once (to one IP), so this seems, to some that specify Protocols as well, as doing it twice.
    Apple have an Article that I don't have link for about Some Netgears needing to change this port.
    More generally though port 443 is open in most routers and routing modems as it is under the threshold of 1024.
    All ports below this are open.
    It allows Web Browsers and Mail apps to use the ports they use without any set up.
    Several routers can be linked together without any input and these apps will still work.
    Port 443 is used by secure Web Sites such as Banks and the like and the Apple Discussions Login Page.
    It is also used by mail apps to access some mail servers.
    Therefore dropping the login port in iChat to this port is likely to find it is open in any router.
    Pre Leopard the above also used to apply to the way the Mac Firewall worked as ports had to be specifically listed. This means if a ports is open for one app other apps can "Piggy Back" that usage.
    In Leopard the App is "Certificated" and even if it allows a Port it will not be open for another app that is nt allowed to use the firewall.
    Hope this helps.

  • IChat won't connect to AIM. It says I tried to login too many times.

    I was randomly using my comp when i tried to login to iChat and it tried to login several times. After it got done freaking out it suddenly said that i couldn't connect to AIM because i tried to login too many times and that i need to wait a few minutes and try again. I've tried deleting the .plist files and have also tried setting the port to a different one. It keeps coming up with the same error. Is there anyone who is also having this problem and might be able to suggest some solutions? Thanks

    I take it you are trying port 443.
    Try it without the SSL Login
    Also try deleting the com.apple.iChat.AIM.plist and com.apple.iChatAgent.plist together.
    Don't forget to restart iChat.

    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school enviroment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom

  • I've authorized my login too many times

    I've authorized my login too many times

    Adobe Live Chat: http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html
    They can reset your authorizations, and then you must reauthorize any devices you still need.
    (Unfortunately, Adobe haven’t got round to an admin website for viewing and editing authorizations.)
    Some of the representatives haven't been properly trained and don't know what to do (and claim there is nothing they can do);
    in that case the only way seems to be to give up that chat and try another session hoping for a properly trained representative.
    If your problem is with another device using Overdrive, Bluefire, Aldiko or similar third party app, it is recommended not to mention that app when on the chat, just mention that you have run out of authorizations  (E_ACT_TOO_MANY_ACTIVATIONS) .  Thanks to AJP_Bear for that tip.

  • Have tried Apple password too many times now locked out of iPhone and ipad

    I Have tried to put Apple password on too many times now I am locked out of iPhone and iPad how do I fix this

    If you've disabled your iTunes account (is that what you mean ?) then you might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
    You might then need to log out of your account on your devices by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on them.
    If that doesn't fix it then contact iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • Can't Login (too many logins in a short period)

    Hi all, when I launch Ichat, it attempts to connect to the network many times in rapid succession and then I get a message saying that I've tried to login too many times and to wait a while and try to login later.
    Has anyone experienced this and is there a fix for it? I haven't been able to log in for 2 days now...
    thanks!

    Thanks Tony, I had actually searched thru the forums and found that suggestion someplace else. It did not work for me though.
    This morning when I tried to launch Ichat, it only logged in twice rapidly and then allowed me onto the system.
    I'm sure the problem isn't "fixed" though since I didn't do anything on my end. It just "happened" to work this morning.

  • IChat keeps telling me I've tried logging on too many times...

    Ok... so here's the story:
    I'm visiting my sister, and she has netgear... I tried logging on to iChat, and it went berserk, logging on and off several times in a row. And then a message popped up the next time I logged on saying: "You have attempted to login too often in a short period of time. Wait a few minutes before trying to login again." So... I searched on this website to see what to do about this, and I found that I need to change the port to 443... so I did it... but it won't even let me attempt to log in anymore, and the same error message keeps popping up.
    Is there a way I can reset this so it doesn't keep telling me I've tried to log on too many times? I've tried restarting, and that's just not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated... I'm gonna try turning the computer off and removing and replacing the battery to see if that words...
    thanks

  • I've logged on too many times in the past few minutes?

    i keep trying to log onto ichat av 3.1.5, and sometimes it tells me that i have lost the connection (while i still have a strong internet connection), while other times it logs on, but no buddies show up available, when i know that they are online.
    after quitting ichat and reopening the program a few times, i get this message: You have attempted to login too often in a short period of time. Wait a few minutes before trying to login again.
    and a few minutes actually means like 2 hours. what should i do?

    Hi
    Try this log on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190
    Go to IChat > Preferences > Accounts.
    Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
    Set the port to 443.
    Log back in again.
