Error Importing Premiere Elements project into Premiere Pro CS5

Hi,
I am working on a multi-part video project that I started in Premiere Elements 8.  I put in hours upon hours of editing on the first part and I found that the more I edited, the more often the program would crash (infuriating!).  So I started using Premiere Pro CS5 to produce the second part, resolving to come back to the first part later.  Well, I've come back around to needing this first part done, and it is just undoable in Elements (crashes every 20 seconds!).  I'd like to import that project into CS5 if possible.  The help documentation says this should be perfectly possible... but I'm having no luck.
When I attempt to open my Premiere Elements project in Premiere Pro, it tells me the project must be converted from Elements .prel to Pro .prproj, and I click through the prompts as normal.  But then as soon as it starts trying to open the project, I get this:
"The Project could not be loaded. It may be damaged or contain outdated elements."
I downloaded the Premiere Elements 9 trial to see if it would be less crashy (and it is), but I'd really prefer to have all my video in one program, and CS5 does the best job (and has most of my hours invested).  Elements 9 opens the "damaged" project just fine and I can edit and export normally, so why can't CS5?
Am I stuck recreating the project from the ground up in CS5?

In very general terms, a contemporary PrE Project (PREL), will Open in PrPro, with the steps that you outlined.
Now, there are all sorts of considerations, for aspects that will not likely work:
Instant Movie/Themes, as PrPro cannot read those
Some Effects that PrPro does not have, like the NewBlue FX
Some Transitions that PrPro does not have
Some Title animation Presets, that PrPro does not have
Do you have any of the above in your PrE Project? There are probably other circumstances, but those are all that come immediately to my mind.
The simpler the PrE Project, the greater the likelyhood that it will Convert to a PrPro PRPROJ file.
PrE 8 and PrPro CS5 should be close enough to work, again in those general terms. I can Open simple PrE 4.0 Projects in PrPro 2.0, but cannot Open PrE 7, 8 or 9 Projects in PrPro 2.0.
Good luck,

  • Import a Premiere CS3 Project into Premiere Elements 7.

Is it possible (or NOT) import a Premiere CS3 Project into Premiere Elements 7?
Thanks a lot for any help.

It is only possible to open some PrE Projects into the right version of PrPro, but will not work the other way around. The error message that you will get is "This Project was created in Adobe PrPro and you need to open it in that program."
Even going the PrE to PrPro route is filled with potholes. I can open some PrE 4 Projects in PrPro 2.0, but not all - depends on what was done. Later versions of PrE will not open in PrPro 2.0, but some have opened in CS3 and CS4, though much can keep one from being able to do that.
    Sorry for the bad news,

  • Trouble opening Premiere Elements project in Premiere Pro

    Hi All,
Just bought Production Premium CS6. I've been working on a project in Premiere Elements 9, and I'd like to continue working on it in the new snazzy Premiere Pro CS6. But when I try to open the project file I get the following error:
"The project could not be loaded, it may be damaged or contain outdated elements."
I can still open the project in PrE, though, and I can even open other PrE projects in PrPro.
I've tried opening autosave versions, but always get the same error.
Any thoughts on what else to try? I really hate the idea of dropping so much money on PrPro and having to continue editing in PrE.
    Thanks!
    Martin

So long as the versions of PrE and PrPro are contemporary, the PREL (PrE Project file) should open, or Import, with some caveats:
There are many 3rd party Effects and Transitions, that are in PrE, that do not exist in PrPro - hence their use can cause issues. An example would be the NewBlue FX Effects/Transitions.
There are features in PrE, that do not exist in PrPro, and these can cause problems. An example would be Themes/Instant Movie.
PrE has a tiny subset of the Sonic AuthorCore modules (a larger subset makes up the basis of Encore) used for DVD/BD authoring, and if one has done any authoring in PrE, such as Create Menus, or the application of Chapter, or Menu Markers. Those authoring aspects can cause problems.
First, I would attempt to Import (not Open) the PREL into PrPro.
If that does not work, go back into PrE, and check for 3rd party Effect/Transitions, and remove any. Check for Menu or Chapter Markers, or Menus, and remove those. Same for Themes, or Instant Movies - remove all. Try again.
Now, PrE 9 and CS6 are not really contemporary. PrE 9 came out during the run of CS5 (not CS6), and PrE 10 (changes made in the program) is closer to CS5.5, and perhaps CS6. There could well be just enough difference, as to create problems there, and a PrE 9 PREL just might be far enough back, as to preclude CS6 being able to either Open, or Import it.
    Good luck,

  • Opening Premiere Elements Project In Premiere Pro

I am evaluating (and just starting to learn) Premiere Pro CS5. I have a project I've done in Premiere Elements 7, and understand I can open this in Premier Pro. When I do this, it wants to convert the project, which I say ok to. However, after this, it opens showing the various clips, etc. in the project window, but there is nothing in the timeline window.
I was expecting/hoping that all the timelines from the Elements project would transfer over - is that supposed to happen?
Thanks for any assistance on this.

When on Imports a Project, the Sequence's Timeline is usually in a Bin. Twirl open the Bins, until you find that, and then Dbl-click on it. That should open the Timeline.
Good luck, and remember that there are elements in PrE, that will not translate to PrPro, such as Instant Movies, Themes, and several Transitions and Effects, such as those from New BlueFX, as they do not exist in PrPro. Otherwise, you should be able to Convert the PREL to a PRPROJ file, and edit it. Note: you cannot go the other direction, from PrPro to PrE.
Enjoy you tests, and also remember that if you have the trial, nothing MPEG will work.

  • How Best to Import iPhone 4 video into Premier Pro CS5 - Settings for new import "sequence preset"?

Shooting video with my iPhone 4 (ATT version) and am trying to import file into Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.3) running on Macintosh OS 10.6.6.
The problem is that I am simply guessing on how to import sequence, and the result is that I am getting motion artifacts and generally inferior quality.  I am using iMovie 11 as my basis for comparison.   Not surprisingly, iMovie 11 imports from iPhone beautifully, but when I've looked around inside of it for properties, there isn't much to see.
From using Apple's built in quicktime "inspector,"  it is possible to see that iPhone4 video has following properties:

Seeking advice on how to smoothly and *losslessly* import/ingest iphone4 footage into PPro CS5.  (I am not worried about exporting for iPhone display, which is what most of the information I can find relates to).
    Thanks in advance,  Michael

    Wow.  Thanks Colin.
When I follow your approach, I don't get the same "sequence preset" dialog box popping up.
FU question, though, the motion is frequently jagged.  Is there a way to smooth out/increase the quality of the rendering?    I have 16gb ram, Mac Pro.   which is able to handle iPhone video rending fine in quicktime.   (I've tried rendering for "performance" and "memory" but both seem to produce, eh results.).

  • Importing Logic 6 Projects Into Logic Pro 8

So here's the deal. I have upgraded to Logic Pro 8 (previously using Logic 6) and I'm trying to load my old songs from logic 6 (from my old mac, G5 Power Mac) onto my new mac G5 Macbook in Logic 8 Pro. So I have transfered all the information from my old mac onto and external that I have connected to my new mac.
Now that I want to load my old songs into the new program everything appears to be fine (for the most part) tracks are all there, my effects and automation is all there but it is messing up my midi maps (.exs files). I was hoping that EXS24 would just recognize them and automatically load them in but it isnt. The only way around this that I can think of would be to load all my samples back in the same way as before (same order, same file names, etc.) then save them as the same .exs file in the same location as they previously were. Which I wouldn't mind doing if I had a smaller amount of midi maps but i have a few hundred atleast most with between 15 and 50 individual samples. Not sure whether this has to do with the hardrive change and logic not recognizing the path that the project file is directing it to locate the files or whether its just upgrading the software thats causing the problem but there has got to be an easier way to achieve this. Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance

I hope I get you right. I had the same situation and the only way was to find all 'sampler instruments' folders on my old machine and put them in exactly the same folders on new machine. Please, note ONLY 'Sampler Instruments' folders, not the samples themselves. Samples can be anywhere on any disk, 'Sampler Instruments' must be in apropriate folders so that old projects can find them. For my future changes I have a backup folder with all sampler instruments folders I found on my old iMac (and previously my G4) - there are 5 in my case... This way I still have 'Logic 6 series' in my applications folder, there is also a folder called something like 'Previous Logic Settings' inside my Library/Application support folder (that's from my Logic 7 I guess).
So, in your case, it's probably only the Logic 6 Series folder and Sampler Instruments folder inside it.

  • Just "upgraded" to Premiere Pro CC (Mac) - what about my Premiere Elements Projects?

    Hi all:
I just purchased a Creative Cloud membership - and was very excited to get started... However, I have just learned that I cannot open my Premiere Elements projects in Premiere Pro - because I use a Mac.  Does anyone have any suggestions for the BEST way for me to be able to work on my existing Elements projects in Pro? I'm assuming that I need to export the Elements projects into .mov or .mpeg formats, etc. and then import them that way.  Obviously I will only be able to edit the "finished product" - and not undo/redo effects/transitions/etc..  If I'm on the right track, can someone let me know the best export settings to use?
ALSO - I had been using the Elements Organizer for all of my clips/video etc. - I'm going to assume that Premiere Pro does not interface with this?
Thanks VERY much in advance for any help!
    Kim

So... why does Adobe claim Premiere Pro CC supports PREL project files?
    http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/transferring-importing-files.html
I work in Windows, and have found this not to be true. Anyone have any thoughts on why they are claiming compatibility?

  • Premiere Elements Project file wount open in Premiere Pro CS6

My friend Just bought Premiere elements 13 and created a Project. I cant open the Project in Premiere Pro CS6. Getting this error message:
"The Project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened."
The Project workes fine in Premiere Elements 13
What can I do? What is wrong?

    If you have done this:
Import a Premiere Elements project (Windows only)
       Select File > Open Project.
Browse to an Adobe Premiere Elements project file, with file extension PREL.
       Click Open.
Premiere Pro converts the Premiere Elements project file to a Premiere Pro project file.
and it wont work Elements 13 is probably too new for CS6.

What is the CODEC in your MOV file(s)? MOV is but a "wrapper," like AVI. This ARTICLE will give you some background. It could be that you just need the proper CODEC, or it could be that it is a Mac-only CODEC, and then you will need for the producer to Export in another CODEC, that is PC-compatible.
This ARTICLE will give you some background on CODEC's, in general.

  • Importing a "pse" file into Premiere Elements

I need to know if I create an album in Premiere Photoshop, why can't I import it into Premiere Elements?   A message comes up with "this type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed"  Can I install the correct codec? and from where and how?
    Hope someone can help
    Thanks Trish

    Welcome to the forum.
As Steve G. points out, the PSE file is the PSE Project file, and basically an XML database. This ARTICLE, while addressing PREL (Premiere Elements Project files) will give you some background on Project files in general.

  • Import Premiere CS3 Project into AE

New to the Mac CS3 universe. Imported a Premiere CS3 project into AE.
Brought it in and AE made a comp from the sequence and sources from all
the media. Thought everything was fine till I scrubbed the timeline and
discovered that the Title items I had placed on my Premiere timeline
appeared to be just alpha channels. The text had not come along with the
    footage.
Did I miss a step in Premiere? Used to AE and Vegas on my old Winbox, so
this CS3 integration is a nice change, but occasionally get trip ups
such as this on the learning curve.
    Mac Pro Quad
    CS3 Creative Suite

Ok thanks, that helps me quite a bit. The footage is all numbered sequentially so Im not mixing it up (9x1 hour blocks), but the framerates could be causing the problem. If the imported footage is HD 1440x1080 @ 25fps in Premiere, I have created a new project also set at HDV1080i 25 (50i) and imported the timeline. I then save this and import to AE, but am still getting the same problem. I know that Ive done the process backwards (premiere then AE), but out of curiosity, can you yourself get premiere transitions to work in AE? Cause I might ask adobe for new install discs if you can.
    Cheers

  • After Effects project into Premiere Pro

I am having trouble importing my After Effects  project into Premiere. It isn't playing once I bring it in to my premiere.

What versions of After Effects and Premiere Pro? What operating system? What kinds of source footage?
What exactly are you doing? What menu commands are you choosing, and what things are you clicking, and in what order?
Here is a page that describes ways to move things from After Effects and Premiere Pro and vice versa:
"Working with Premiere Pro and After Effects
There are many ways to move things between these applications, but importing an After Effects project into Premiere Pro is not one of them, so I'm confused by your issue as you've stated it.

  • How do I import an MKV file into Premiere Pro CS6?

How do I import an MKV file into Premiere Pro CS6?

Premiere Pro CS6 doesn't support MKV formats. To import MKV to Premiere Pro CS6, a recommended solution is to convert MKV to AVI.
I've been reading so many different forums on how to convert MKV to AVI. Finally, I summarised three solutions:
First one: HandBrake . This tool is a free and open-source multi-threaded transcoding app. It supports nearly any videos including MKV format and has Mac version and Windows version.
    Cons:
    1. HandBrake is too professional to handle for most people;
    2. It doesn't support MOV as output format.
Second one: there are many third party software which supports converting MKV to AVI. I just test one of them. It's professional yet easy to use and the service is excellent. And there is a step by step guide about how to use this tool .
    Cons:
    1. Most of them are not free.
Third one: Online-Converter . This kind of converter does a great job on file conversion.
    Cons:
    1. Like most online converters, the free version of this tool only allows you to convert videos smaller than 100MB. It's too small for video conversion;
2.Your MKV video should be upload to the internet to be converted. This means the risk of pravite information leak is possible.
