Error in Burning Music CD

Burning CDs yesterday with nary a glitch. Suddenly start receiving error that "Songs in this playlist will not fit on one CD". The problem is this list in question is LESS TIME than previous lists? So why I am getting this message now AFTER burning other CDs with MORE time on them? Thanks for your help! [email protected]

I think what has happened is that we have been switched to an MP3 happy world with the advent of IPod and IPhone - whether we want to switch or not.
I have been using ITunes for years, always burn the same way using the same tunes and audio files, uploaded the same way. This has been a no-brainer process I can do in my sleep. Suddenly my selections are too many for the CD, the title ends up being one I used sometime before and not the current playlist title.
I decided to use an MP3 converter for a couple of wav files I had imported from a lecture, thinking that the wav files were somehow way too big to burn to one CD. This was even though the total time for the two wav files I was burning fell under the maximum amount the blank CD would hold.
As it turns out, they burned just fine when I chose to make an MP3 CD out of them. But of course, when I attempted to make an MP3 CD out of some other tune selections, they would not burn because they had not been converted to MP3.
Now I figure that those who are busy making ITunes updates have either forgotten or rationalized that NOBODY would just want to make a simple audio CD anymore. After all, who would want just 17-20 songs on a CD when you can get 150 on a CD or billions on a thumb sized IPod?
And the funny thing about it is that my wav files were smaller (at 57mg) than my resultant MP3 files (at 80mg), although the playing time is listed as identical for both (1.4hrs). Imagine that.
To make the conversion, I used some freebie download from the Apple site called Switch. Now I don't know about you guys - but probably so - I have over 1000 tunes and audio files in my ITunes library. This is going to be big fun switching everything over to MP3. Must we? Or shall we wait on another ITunes update - and next time - really read the puppy before installing - to see if we want to tinker some more with that which was working just fine before.
Try the conversion and see if it works for you.

I'm having the exact same issue, but still haven't figured out what it is. I note that at the top of this thread it indicates that there are two "helpful" entries and one "solved" entry, but I can't find the solved one, so maybe someone will repost it here or kindly link to it.
There is one icon missing though.
As I read through the excellent tutorial at http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/imovie_09stone.html I scroll down to the point where he talks about dragging music in from iTunes, which is what I'm trying to do. I can see, in his screen shot, the extra little icon that is a red oval and a white "1" in it. I don't get that icon when I am trying to drag my music into the video. I do get the green and white plus icon when I try to drag my music in. Also I DO get BOTH the red 1 and the green plus when I try dragging in a sound effect, which I can do with no problem. But why not the music?
I've been able to drag in music with no problem in other productions, so I can't figure out what is going on with this one. I'm sure there is a setting somewhere that got flipped, but I can't figure out where.
In desperation I also tried adding an extra title slide at the end of my video just to make sure there is more video time than music time in the production, but that didn't help at all.
    Any help guys?

    Hi
Due to some kind of copy protection in iTunes - I don't copy directly from this in iMovie
to my projects. (Most often the result of doing it in iMovie is a DVD without any sound)
    I do
    • In iTunes - collect needed audio into a new Playlist
    • then burn this out as an Audio-CD .aiff (NOT .mp3)
    • This CD I copy into a folder on my Mac (often containing other material that's connected to the project)
    • And then I drag and drop these .aiff files into my movie project in iMovie.
This works Greatly and even more so when I do my DVD.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Error in burning iTunes library to DVD as back up

I'm keen to make a back up of my iTunes library onto DVD.
When I try to do this, having followed the instructions to the letter, the system chugs through, checks the playlist, tells me it is initiating the burning, then I get a message canceling the operation reading 'unknown error 4251'.
Now, I can't find anything relating to this error on the Apple website, however, there are other users with the same problem using other forums. The problem is though, there don't seem to be any answers resolving the problem.
Any help would be great, thanks.

Well....You do not absolutely need to Use iTunes for Backing up your Music. Any program that burns DVDs can burn music files as data disks.
iTunes can work fine for music files BUT: I prefer more control and completeness over my backup process. It is also very important to note that a large limitation of using iTunes to manage the backup is that the iTunes method does not maintain the two meta-data files (iTunes Library.itl & iTunes Music Library.xml) where your Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. are stored. See: What are the iTunes Library files?
If you are heavily invested in your Library data (Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings, Last Played, Date Added, etc.), it is critical that you also make and archive multiple backups of your ‘iTunes Library.itl’ file.
If your music is located under one common Folder (e.g.-‘iTunes’), then it is easiest to physically copy that folder and all its sub-folders in one simple process. It can be done quickly, and incrementally – several times a day, when necessary. In the case of any data loss, just re-copy your entire (or partial) music library back to wherever it was, placing it in the main Folder that the previous iTunes expected. Along with the .ITL meta-data file, this completes a full ‘restore’ of your music to the time of your last backup.
Use of a backup software program will greatly help. It will allow you to easily perform incremental backups of only the files that have changed. WinXP has such a facility built-in. I use a free program called FileSync ( http://www.fileware.com ). There are many out there. Some use Zipped files or proprietary formats, others use standard file formats. I like FileSync as it uses normal file formats that can be viewed/managed via any Windows program or utility.
Here's a list of possible ways to copy your music files from your main iTunes computer to another storage medium for backup purposes.
    1) Use an External Hard Drive to store the complete iTunes meta-data files and underlying Music Folder structure and songs from your main computer. They are quite cheap now, for their storage volume. This is my preferred main medium.
    2) If you have two computers:
2a) Connect them through a router
2b) Connect them using a Direct (w/Mac) or Crossover (PC/PC) Ethernet cable (See: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3001.html)
2c) Connect them via a USB-to-USB Network Bridge. See: here as an example.
Copy the files and folders from one computer to the other. Use the second PC as your backup repository.
    3) Burn several DVDs (at 4.7+ GBs each) with the music data files and store them safely. Re-writable ones are good for backup purposes (if your DVD drive can manage these).
    4) Burn 6x more on CDs (at 700MB each) than in #3 above and store them safely in more space Re-writable ones are good for backup purposes (if your CD drive can manage these).
    5) Use a larger USB Flash drive (1GB – 4+GBs) to store the files only if you have a small amount ripped music or have multiple and/or jumbo USB drives at your disposal that will fit your music library.
    6) Use the second internal hard drive (if available) of your PC -- not optimum, as you really want to physically separate the storage of backups from the originals, but good as a tertiary storage device.
By keeping only one copy of your music (other than on the iPod), you are not truly 'backed-up' and are running a high risk of losing your music. Music files on just the iPod and the computer is not considered having any backup. If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer, then create and maintain two external sets.
You need at least three sets of your music:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
It is a good policy to backup all your important data. It is a very smart policy to back it up on more than one medium.
External hard drives now run less than $100 for 200-250GBs of storage. Very cheap backup insurance, indeed. See This Link

  • Unable to Play some burned Music

I have previously burned music from CD's to my Itunes Library, that I have played with no problems. Recently I found many of my tracks had exclamation marks after them with the error message saying, they couldn;t be played because the original songs weren't available. Would I like to find them? When I hit 'Yes', previous downloads for specific dates came up but they would not open. So it seems they have been deleted by I Tunes.
The Songs I can't play are ones where I didn't specify a particular artist. I can still play songs ok where the Artist's name was put in. What is the cause of this problem??! I downloaded the most recent ITUNE 7.5 after this problem occured, but no change.

  • How can I burn music from my iTunes library to CD, while still keeping the track info intact?

I made several CDs for a friend, but when my friend imported the disc into iTunes none of the track names showed up (it just said "Track 1", "Track 2", etc.) This is annoying because it was 8 CDs worth of music (over 150 songs!)

Hmm... I've never seen a issue exactly like this before personally, but usually you get the "Disk Locked" error when installing iTUnes or adding anything, songs or videos to iTunes folder. go here and follow the instructions http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302398
You may have to uninstall/reinstall iTunes AND quicktime if this does not work. Uninstlling iTunes DOES NOT delete any music, playlist, ratings ect ect

We first need to determine what program is involved and the details of what you are doing?
You cannot burn your content to DVD disc (assumed DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc) with just Photoshop Elements and its associated Elements Organizer? So, if you are getting this error in your burn to disc, I am suspecting that you are not working with Photoshop Elements.
So, what program and version of it are you working with and on what computer operating system is it running?
The error that you present at burn has been seen before with no one description of what it means (that I have ever seen). Sometimes defragmentation of the computer hard drive and/or using another brand/type DVD disc resolves the issue. If you are in Premiere Elements burn dialog, does hitting the Rescan button a few times have any impact on the situation?
    http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/kb/troubleshoot-system-errors-freezes-burning.htm l
Please review, consider, and then let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.
