Error in burning

I'm using iDVD for the 1st time and I'm having trouble with the burning process. I created a short video using iMovie and used the "Create iDVD" function.
It went through the Stage 1 and Stage 2 process but then it stopped halfway, showing the following message:
Errors were found during the burning process.
The recording device reported the media error:
Power calibration area error. (0x73, 0x03.)
Can someone please help me? I'm trying to make an anniversary gift for my wife and time's running out!!
Thanks.

Vanan,
No, Onyx is free. You can download it here:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20070
No, your title looks to be okay.
And what he meant by burn the DVD using Toast OR the Mac's disc utility, this means, instead of burning your iDVD project through iDVD, what you'll do is save it as a disc image. It will run through the entire encoding process, and instead of burning to a DVD, it will save a disc image to your HD. You can mount that and watch it to see if everything turned out alright. It is a nice little "safety" feature to make sure everything is A okay before wasting a DVD.
But after you save it as a disc image, you will use Toast(burning software, music, movies, data, etc.) or you can use disc utility(in the utilities section). But if you use disc utility, I am not sure you can watch the finished product on a DVD player, it can be mounted and watched on a computer, but as far as someones DVD player, I don't know if it will work.
But if you use Toast(I'd recommend getting it) it will take at most 20 mins to burn. Since it is already encoded, you just drag it into Toast, and hit burn.
It will write it, and then it verify it.
That is what you meant. I am pretty sure you can purchase Toast through the Apple Store. Or at Roxio for sure, since that is who manufactures it.

Good luck Vanan,

  • HELP! OOstatus error=- 47, ERROR WHEN BURNING

We first need to determine what program is involved and the details of what you are doing?
You cannot burn your content to DVD disc (assumed DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc) with just Photoshop Elements and its associated Elements Organizer? So, if you are getting this error in your burn to disc, I am suspecting that you are not working with Photoshop Elements.
So, what program and version of it are you working with and on what computer operating system is it running?
The error that you present at burn has been seen before with no one description of what it means (that I have ever seen). Sometimes defragmentation of the computer hard drive and/or using another brand/type DVD disc resolves the issue. If you are in Premiere Elements burn dialog, does hitting the Rescan button a few times have any impact on the situation?
    http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/kb/troubleshoot-system-errors-freezes-burning.htm l
Please review, consider, and then let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.

  • Power calibration error when burning?

I get a power calibration error when burning from IDVD.
Any suggestions as to how to fix it?

Basically a power calibration is the drive writes to the blank and then tries to read it back and adjusts the laser power accordingly to get a proper burn. So there are a number of reasons you might get this problem.
One is the media itself. A bad disc or poor quality media might give you this error.
Next, you may have a dirty laser and running on of those cleaning CDs (they have little brushes on them to dust off the laser) might do the trick.
Third, could be a laser on the drive is giving up the ghost. Hopefully it is not the last one.

  • Unknown error when burning disc

I get an unknown error when burning playlists to blank discs.  My computer begins to write the discs, but stops after a song or two.

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

  • Memory allocation error when burning in premiere elements 2

I have premiere elements 2. I happily burnt a version of my dvd then suddenly it stopped burning and I had the above message during the burning section of the process. My computer has adequate memory to run this programme and nothing new has been added. I then downloaded Premiere elements 7 as a trial and burnt this Dvd yesterday. However today it won't burn through 7 either so i am reluctant to upgrade unnecessarily. Can anyone shed light on why I receive this error message.
Other things seem to burn but I am beginning to receive messages that Adobe is low generally on memory allocation.

  • Errors while burning?

I just put together a pretty simple, one-track video on iDVD and while it was burning, I got a message saying something like "errors while burning" - I did not save the exact message, but I'm wondering what the cause for this might be. I actually closed out of the DVD project, took it to the trash, and recreated a new DVD project out of the iMovie project. I thught this would fix the problem, but there were still errors while burning the second time. I tried to play the DVD and the system would not read the DVD, there was no picture at all. Any suggestions? (I have more then 25GB of free space on my hard drive - about 35 I believe)

    You're welcome. Here's a bit of background:
    a) I use MacJanitor to trigger the Mac's maintenance scripts (download it from VersionTracker.com), and then use Apple's Disk Utility (look in Applications-Utilities) to repair permissions on your main hard drive. Your Mac would do maintenance tasks by itself if it was turned on continuously, but MacJanitor lets you run daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance tasks (I run it before I do something big, or when my Mac seems slow or goofy). Disk Utility can do first aid on hard disks, and on your main hard drive (boot drive), it can Repair Permissions (It's important that permissions are correct).
    b) Creating an image file is often recommended in these forums because it gives you more control over the burning process, and it creates a virtual DVD that reliably can be tested. In iDVD, choose Save As Disc Image and iDVD will go through the encoding and other processes, except the DVD is created on your Desktop. You can use Apple's DVD Player to play the virtual DVD and make sure it works like you want. When you're satisfied, Disk Utility can be used to copy the virtual DVD to an actual disk. To do this, choose the image file in DU and click Burn (you'll have some options for burn speed -- I'd choose something slow to reduce burning errors -- perhaps 1x or 2x but wouldn't go faster than half the rated speed of the burner).
    Shout if you need clarification.

  • Multiplex Error - While Burning Disc Image

I've been trying to burn an hour and a half dvd using idvd '08 on professional quality, coming from and AIC HDV project in final cut express 3.5. It takes around 5 hours to encode and then for the third time it's given me a multiplexer error at the end. Is there anyway to solve this?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Do you have 20GB+ free on your start-up drive? Do you have any external HDs attached?
Your MacBook Pro hasn't frozen up while encoding?
    There is 10.5.2 available today.

  • Error while burning a movie to DVD using iDVD

I have burned a 2 other movies this week but the last movie I tried to burn didn't work. I tried 3 times (once after restarting the computer and once starting over from iMovie) but each time I got the same error at the end.
    Multiplexer Error
The was an error during building. The discs is still untouched and may be reused later.
    Thanks for any help.

I had that problem until I remove a good deal of stuff from my 500 GB drive and left about 100. I hear from this forum you need at least 25 GB free. Try it...see if that works....also, burn at the slowest speed possible.

  • Error Message Burning photo's on to CD

I am a new user of Apple Macs and I'm still learning how to use everything. I have my photo's on my computer saved in iPhoto '05, I have been editing away for the last few months now I want to back them up and also put them on CD for other people who do not use Apple.
In the past I have not had a problem putting them on to CD except when I view the photo's on another computer there are several duplicates of the same photo for some reason even though I did not do this?
The other day I tried to put several of my holiday photo's on to CD, using the same brand and type (CD-R 700MB). I filled the disk and had to take a few off as the disk was full. No problem. Started to burn the CD as normal it started writing the images, but when it finished it came up Burning Failed Error Message.
I took the CD and put it in my laptop which is not an apple. It did not read any images on the CD but loads of different folders with dates were created on it. I then put it into my imac but it didn't even recognise the disk was in.
So I de-selected a few more photo's in iPhoto to half fill the disk and tried again. The same message came up. Put it in my laptop again, this time it read the images but they only came up as thumbnails and they were really dark. Once again loads of folders were created with dates and each photo from my library was put in the corresponding folder on the particular day it was taken, even though I never asked it to do this.
I put the CD back into my iMac and once it again it did not read the disk?
Can anyone help me? I was supposed to put all my holiday photo's on CD for my friend by this weekend. Am I doing something wrong in iPhoto or is there something up with my computer?
    Thanks.

Just did a Google search and found this rather old discussion concerning that error code.
Seems to be a problem either with the SuperDrive or the media used.
Have you tried burming another brand of media? WIth the same results?

  • Error when burning disc image

An error occurred when I tried to burn a disc image of a DVD slideshow. The slideshow has 324 slides in it and is almost 38 minutes long at the moment. I have added sound by creating a sound track in iMovie using a combination of songs downloaded from iTunes and tracks from my own CDs then blending the two blending the two. The slideshow plays on the computer and I have burned a disc image two or three times as I was creating it.
    Any advice?

I have burned a disc image two or three times as I was creating it.
Can you clarify what you did exactly? You mean you saved the project as a disk image, then went back and did further work on the project?
The audio tracks you imported from iTunes may have been copy protected and will not burn in iDVD. The workaround is to burn those tracks to an audio CD in iTunes, then re-import into iTunes from that CD. Then will transfer to iMovie and iDVD without problems.
    Also, something here may help:

  • Getting medium write error on burning a disc image using Disk utility

Have a MacBrook Pro 15 inch, circa Summer 2007, using OX 10.4.11. up until recently (as in before February) have been able to burn DVD's using Toast (message Medium Writer Error). Started getting problems where the burn failed. Thought maybe it was Toast, so I tried creating an iDVD project and tried to burn the DVD using that, and it stopped in the middle as well and then spit the disk out with no error message.
, this time I tried creating a disc image, and used disk utility to burn. The process looked like it was going to work but then failed with a message that I have a medium write error.
I have no problems burning a regular data disk on my superdrive so I am thinking it's maybe a software glitch rather than hardware. . Any thoughts, as to what could be causing this problem all of a sudden. By the way, there are other users out there, who seems to be having DVD burning problems all of a sudden, but most people suggest other media. I am using the same stack of DVD-R's from before when I had no problem.

Well, I had assumed my media was ok, since I had a spindle of DVD-R's and had used many of them successfully (until now!, ha ha).
I went out this afternoon and bought another brand (Memorex) and it successfully recorded.
So hopefully this solves my problem, I had no idea it was the media since I had used several of them before.
    Thanks for your help.

Same problems here. I have 2 different computers and tries 2 different CD-Rs and I found out that it has soemthing to do with the new "Protected AAC audio file" format.
Open iTunes, click on music, on the listing side of the screen right click on name, and then click on "kind".
I bet you can't burn anything with the "Protected AAC audio file."
No solutions yet, so just don't buy anything else from iTunes for now.

  • Error when burning DVD

I just bought a Mac a few weeks ago, and have had some trouble burning DVD's. I have a G5 running 10.3.9, with a Pioneer Superdrive. I try to burn an image in Disk Utility, but get the error message "The disc is reserved for exclusive use by another application". When I try just burning files using finder, it says "This disc cannot be used". I have tried DVD-R and DVD+R. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hi macaboo
    Welcome to apple discussions. Just to add to the already excellent advice kindly provided to you by Fred Shippey;
I too have one or two suggestions:
First is to delete the plist for iDvd (but first quit the app). The plist is located in your preferences folder and looks like this (assuming the app has been launched at least once):
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
Now try your iDvd project again. But if that too fails then ...
Delete encoded assets from the Advanced menu tab and then try the burn again.
That procedure looks like this. Hope this helps but if not just come on back. Good luck.

  • Error when burning dvd's

I have a satellite a305 with vista. I had been downloading torrents awhile back and got a nasty something because my computer went crazy. I managed to "fix" it except that the keyboard and mouse were nonresponsive. A usb mouse worked but no usb keyboard would install. Despite this, I was still able to burn dvd's.
Now, since it is unacceptable to NOT have a properly working keyboard I had to factory reset the computer. Now it all works great.
EXCEPT when I burn a dvd (dropping files to it....I haven't downloaded any 3rd party software) it starts to encode...gets to about 3.5% and then encodes super fast (usually burning a dvd takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours) and eject the disc after 30 seconds. A window pops up saying an error ocurred while burning the dvd. I am using memorex dvd-r discs. It did the same thing when I used my old disks (Sony dvd-r) but I assumed that since they were scratched a bit that must be causing an error.
I just want to make my DVD's. So frustrated!! I tried checking to see if Toshiba had a driver update I was missing since I did an out of the box reset, but they're screen to choose my laptop doesn't have my model available.
    Any ideas for me?

Since Toast is not an Apple product, you should probably post your question on Roxio's discussion boards:

I get an error message during encoding using iDVD 7.0 when burning a DVD or when attempting to save as disc image. I've used Apple support and nothing helps.  Any ideas?

Thanks much.  I changed the theme and it worked fine.  Odd thing is that I was using themes in the program and did not create my own.  Thanks for responding.
