  • Unable to Create Partitioned Table

    Hi All,
I was trying to create a partitioned table using following
    Create table customers (custcode number(5),
    Name varchar2(20),
    Addr varchar2(10),
    City varchar2(20),
    Bal number(10,2))
    Partition by list (city),
    Partition north_India values (‘DELHI’,’CHANDIGARH’),
    Partition east_India values (‘KOLKOTA’,’PATNA’),
    Partition south_India values (‘HYDERABAD’,’BANGALORE’,’CHENNAI’),
    Partition west India values (‘BOMBAY’,’GOA’);
It is throwing me an error
    ORA-00922: missing or invalid option
Will you please tell me what is wrong with this query? Is it possible to create partitioned table using select statement (create table as select... Partition by...)?
    Regards
    ~Pravin

    Pravin
Will you please tell me what is wrong with this query?I see 4 errors in the syntax. Therefore, I strongly suggest you to have a lock to this:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_7002.htm#i2146309
In addition, have a look to the error message. If I run your script in SQL*Plus it clearly shows where the problem is. E.g.:
SQL> Create table customers (custcode number(5),
      2  Name varchar2(20),
      3  Addr varchar2(10),
      4  City varchar2(20),
      5  Bal number(10,2))
      6  Partition by list (city),
      7  Partition north_India values (‘DELHI’,’CHANDIGARH’),
      8  Partition east_India values (‘KOLKOTA’,’PATNA’),
      9  Partition south_India values (‘HYDERABAD’,’BANGALORE’,’CHENNAI’),
    10  Partition west India values (‘BOMBAY’,’GOA’);
    Partition by list (city),
    ERROR at line 6:
    ORA-00922: missing or invalid option
Is it possible to create partitioned table using select statement?Yes. With the usual syntax.

    HI James,
Thank you so much. I am able to create table and insert rows and able to select them too. However I am not able to use these tables in my BPEL process for my practice. The DB adapter is throwing some error, any idea?

  • Partitioning tables in Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I have a table that already contains more than a million of records, I am considering partitioning it, I am new with the web based console of oracle 10g, so I am not finding the way to do it.
    can any one help me?

Well, search on "Creating Partitioned Tables" in OEM help and that will tell you how to get to the partitions page for when you are creating a new table. I figured modifying an existing table would be in the Storage tab of that area but I didn't see it. For an existing table, it might be easier just to use SQL Plus.
Or you can use OEM to create a new empty table with partitions and just do a select into... on it.

  • Error in Creating virtual tables

    Hi
I get back a SQL error (SQL Statement not properly ended) in the case of Oracle for the following query. Is it not possible to create virtual tables in Oracle. I work on Oracle 9i
CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE derTbl2143679361 (DerCol0, DerCol1, DerCol2, MemberCol0, OrdCol1) ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS AS

    , TBC.SUPPLIER.COUNTYID
    FROM (TBC.SUPPLIER join TBC.SALES on (TBC.SALES.SUPPLIERID = TBC.SUPPLIER.SUPPLIERID))
    GROUP BY TBC.SUPPLIER.COUNTYID,TBC.SUPPLIER.COUNTRY
    /*The above query works fine*/
    SELECT NETEMP5.Member0, 'AMOUNT', derTbl214367936.DerCol2
    , NETEMP5.Ord1

    left outer join derTbl2143679361 on ((COALESCE(NETEMP5.KeyCol0, -2147483647) = COALESCE(derTbl2143679361.DerCol0, -2147483647)))
    GROUP BY NETEMP5.Member0,derTbl2143679361.DerCol2, NETEMP5.Ord1
    ORDER BY 4
    /*This query throws the error*/
Can I not assign Aliases to the virtual table in this form - NETEMP5(KeyCol0,Member0,Ord1)??
    Thanks

    Hi,
This is the error that I get back
ORA-00933- SQL command not properly ended
It seems that the problem is with the way I use the Alias. The following query works fine
    SELECT NETEMP5.Member0, 'AMOUNT', derTbl214367936.DerCol2
    , NETEMP5.Ord1
    FROM (SELECT DISTINCT COALESCE(derTbl2143679361.DerCol0, -2147483647) KeyCol0, COALESCE(derTbl2143679361.MemberCol0, '$U$6$N$9$') Member0, COALESCE(derTbl2143679361.OrdCol1, -2147483647) Ord1 FROM derTbl2143679361) NETEMP5
    left outer join derTbl2143679361 on ((COALESCE(NETEMP5.KeyCol0, -2147483647) = COALESCE(derTbl2143679361.DerCol0, -2147483647)))
    GROUP BY NETEMP5.Member0,derTbl2143679361.DerCol2, NETEMP5.Ord1
    ORDER BY 4
Here i use the alias following the column name itself. But is it not possible to have the aliases with the virtual table name (i.e NETEMP5(KeyCol0,Member0,Ord1) ) this works fine on MSSQL & db2
    Thanks

  • Create partition table upto level 3

    Hi All,
I want to create partition table using 3 columns. could you please tell me is that possible to do in oracle 11G. if can please tell me the way to create
    PARTITION BY LIST (Acct_type)
    SUBPARTITION BY LIST (PERIOD)
and needs to partition this using another column.( account_source)
    please help me.
    Regards,
    krish

    Hello,
3 levels of partition are not possible.
But perhaps you can combine 2 levels as follows:
With Oracle 11g you can use a virtual column:
    CREATE TABLE F_ACCOUNT_PART
    acc_type varchar2(100),
    acc_source varchar2(100),
    period date,
    acc_type_source varchar2(201) as (acc_type||'_'||acc_source) )
    PARTITION BY LIST (acc_type_source)
PARTITION FA_AA_ACC1 VALUES ('AA-ACC1') TABLESPACE USERS,
PARTITION FA_BB_ACC1 VALUES ('BB-ACC1') TABLESPACE USERS,
PARTITION FA_CC_ACC1 VALUES ('CC-ACC1') TABLESPACE USERS,
PARTITION FA_DD_ACC1 VALUES ('DD-ACC1') TABLESPACE USERS,
PARTITION FA_AA_ACC2 VALUES ('AA-ACC2') TABLESPACE USERS,
PARTITION FA_BB_ACC2 VALUES ('BB-ACC2') TABLESPACE USERS,
PARTITION FA_CC_ACC2 VALUES ('CC-ACC2') TABLESPACE USERS,
PARTITION FA_DD_ACC2 VALUES ('DD-ACC2') TABLESPACE USERS,
PARTITION all_other VALUES (DEFAULT) TABLESPACE USERS
)For versions prior to 11g you have to build a new column acc_type_source and fill the values cancatenated.

Also every time I create new diagram or off-line DB JDev starts spinning at 40 - 50 % CPU and gets stuck, so I have to "kill" the process and restart it. After which it works fine. Could it be some JDK compatibility issue?

    Hi nfk,
Are the tables in the question reference-partitioned?
I am able to reproduce the exception when copying to project the online reference partitioned tables to offline , and I have logged a bug for it.
Please give the details of the tables like partition type if your scenario is different.
As for the other issue , I have not seen any performance issues with DB diagram ..I have tried on jdk1.6.0_06 and jdk160_11.if it is reproducible, please add your machine configuration.
    Many Thanks,

I am trying to integrate ODI and BAM . I have followed all the steps given in the guide. While creating interface i am getting the error while LKM is working.
I am using LKM SQL to SQL and IKM Oracle BAM Insert ( as the inserted data should be captured after inserting).
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/integration.1111/e10224/bam_odi.htm
Please use this link for clarification. For me drop work table and create work table failed (C$ -work table). Anyone have any idea about this could you help me?
    Thanks in advance,
    Gnanaprakasam

It seems the table(MMMORDERFILE_C$_REQUEST ) already exist in the work schema,so cant able to create and throw an error. can you tell me which KM you are using?

    Hi Martin,
I guess, I was not clear enough. Let me try again
How Aggregate Persistence works in OBIEE?
Once you are done choosing options in the Aggregate Persistence wizard, it generates an intelligent Query.
    What query is it?
If you happen to understand the query, it is not like any ANSI standard SQL (I would say DDL) query. As you might have noticed there are no SQL Server datatypes, lengths, keys, constraints etc. This query can only be understood by the BI Server.
How do I issue this query?
Since the logical query could only be understood by BI Server, it has to be issued only to BI Server Engine using some tool viz NQCMD in this case.
What does issuing this query using NQCMD do?
The execution steps are as follows, the moment the query is issue via NQCMD
Aggregate Persistent Wiz Generate Query ----- Issued to ---> NQCMD ----- Passes the logical query to ---> BI Server ----- Parses the query ---> Builds the corresponding physical DDL statements Issued --->To the Database --- If successful ---> .RPD is automatically updated with the aggregated sources etc.
How do I pass the query to BI Server using NQCMD?
The format of issuing this logical query to BI Server using NQCMD is
    nqcmd -d <Data Source Name> -u <Analytics UserId> -p <Password> -s <command> > output.log
    where
<Data Source Name> : Is the DSN name which OBIPS uses to talk to Oracle BI Server. Yes, it's the very same DSN that can be found in InstanceConfig.xml
<Analytics UserID> : Any user in obiee with admin privileges.
<Password> : Password of the obiee UserId
<Command> : Logical SQL Command which you already have handy.
Hope I was good this time..

    https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=10520360
I tried to search for my DSN entry in the odbc driver which is in system32 and systemWOW64. Hence i can find the entry in system32, but not in systemWOW64. So i tried to create my same DSN entry in the driver in systemWOW64 and after that i started to created DWH tables and now it is created successfully.
    Thanks

    another doubt related to same.=================================
    A couple of important points.
First, the listener is a server side only process. It's entire purpose in life is to receive requests for connections to databases and set up those connections. Once the connection is established, the listener is out of the picture. It creates the connection. It doesn't sustain the connection. One listener, with the default name of LISTENER, running from one oracle home, listening on a single port, will serve multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is an unnecessary complexity to try to have multiple listeners or to name the listener as if it belongs to a particular database. That would be like the telephone company building a separate switchboard for each customer.
Additional notes on the listener: One listener is capable of listening on multiple ports. But please notice that it is the listener using these ports, not the database instance. You can't bind a specific listener port to a specific db instance. Similarly, one listener is capable of listnening on multiple IP addresses (in the case of a server with multiple NICs) But just like the port, you can't bind a specific ip address to a specific db instance.
Second, the tnsnames.ora file is a client side issue. It's purpose is for address resolution - the tns equivalent of the 'hosts' file further down the network stack. The only reason it exists on a host machine is because that machine can also run client processes.
Assume you have the following in your tnsnames.ora:
    larry =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myhost)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = curley)
)Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
$> sqlplus scott/tiger@larrytns will look in your tnsnames.ora for an entry called 'larry'. Next, tns sends a request to (PORT = 1521) on (HOST = myhost) using (PROTOCOL = TCP), asking for a connection to (SERVICE_NAME = curley).
Where is (HOST = myhost) on the network? When the request gets passed from tns to the next layer in the network stack, the name 'myhost' will get resolved to an IP address, either via a local 'hosts' file, via DNS, or possibly other less used mechanisms. You can also hard-code the ip address (HOST = 123.456.789.101) in the tnsnames.ora.
Next, the request arrives at port 1521 on myhost. Hopefully, there is a listener on myhost configured to listen on port 1521, and that listener knows about SERVICE_NAME = curley. If so, you'll be connected.
    What can go wrong?
First, there may not be an entry for 'larry' in your tnsnames. In that case you get "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified" No need to go looking for a problem on the host, with the listener, etc. If you can't place a telephone call because you don't know the number (can't find your telephone directory (tnsnames.ora) or can't find the party you are looking for listed in it (no entry for larry)) you don't look for problems at the telephone switchboard.
Maybe the entry for larry was found, but myhost couldn't be resolved to an IP address (say there was no entry for myhost in the local hosts file). This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe there was an entry for myserver in the local hosts file, but it specified a bad IP address. This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe the IP was good, but there is no listener running: "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, but it is listening on a different port. "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, it is listening on the specified port, but doesn't know about SERVICE_NAME = curley. "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"
Third: If the client is on the same machine as the db instance, it is possible to connect without referencing tnsnames and without going through the listener.
Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
$> sqlplus scott/tigertns will attempt to establish an IPC connection to the db instance. How does it know the name of the instance? It uses the current value of the enviornment variable ORACLE_SID. So...
    $> export ORACLE_SID=fred
$> sqlplus scott/tigerIt will attempt to connect to the instance known as "fred". If there is no such instance, it will, of course, fail. Also, if there is no value set for ORACLE_SID, the connect will fail.
check executing instances to get the SID

    ERROR:
ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specifiedOk, that is how we get from the client connection request to the listener. What about the listener's part of all this?
The listener is very simple. It's job is to listen for connection requests and make the connection (server process) between the client and the database instance. Once that connection is made, the listener is out of the picture. If you were to kill the listener, all existing connections would continue. The listener is configured with the listener.ora file, but if that file doesn't exist, the listener is quite capable of starting up with all default values. One common mistake with the listner configuration is to specify "HOST=localhost" or "HOST=127.0.01". This is a NONROUTABLE ip address. LOCALHOST and ip address 127.0.0.1 always mean "this machine on which I am sitting". So, all computers are known as "localhost" or "127.0.0.1". If you specify this address, the listener will only be capable of receiving requests from the machine on which it is running. If you specified that address in your tnsnames file - on a remote client machine - the request would be routed to the machine on which the requesting client resides. Probably not what you want.
