My other concern is that I cannot download to my iPhone 3G S the IOS 5. It always stopped downloading. Are these two things related to each other? Please help.

Excellent
So many folks fail to run Disk Utility B4 d/loading or system changes.
Also wouldn't hurt to do a backup B4 any actions outlined
( Had a flu shot earlier today and it knocked me for a loop... I wasn't able to post )
Let 'er rip and...

    thank you very much

Looks like Apple did the same thing with Lion that Microsoft did with Vista. Brought it on the market before it was ready.
I run a MacBook Pro and upgrading to Lion caused me two days of trouble and computer crash. Router settings removed and router blocked. Dongle not recognised, you name it.
In the end, I gave up and using my Snow Leopard installation disk and a Time Machine Backup finally got my computer up and running again. Thanks to Lion, I think I'll stay with OS X 10.6.8 at least it's reliable.

  • Multiple Errors - G5 Quad/Mac OSX 10.5.8 - After Security Update 2009-006

I'm using a PPC G5 Quad, and after I installed Security Update 2009-006, I began having problems even being able to open project files Final Cut Pro 6. So I had to force quit FCP6, but even that wouldn't close the application.
I figured the issue was probably just with the application, so I manually powered down the computer and only wound up getting two blank blue screens on my monitors when I powered back up.
Powered down again, disconnected power cord for 2 minutes, then powered back up.
Attempted to open FCP6, didn't work, wouldn't quit using "Force Quit."
Opened Motion 3 to create a new project outside of FCP6 - when I selected "Save Project As" the application became unresponsive. Would not quit even when I selected "Force Quit."
To test if there was an issue with other applications besides Final Cut Studio 2, I opened Pages and tried selecting "File->Open." This made the application unresponsive, and would not quit with "Force Quit."
    I repeated this test with:
    QuickTime Player
    Adobe Photoshop CS
    Preview
    Microsoft Word
    Safari
ALL of these applications became unresponsive when I tried using the command "File->Open"
I then decided to try installing Security Update 2009-005 to see if that would help.
Because Safari was locked, I downloaded Security Update 2009-005 using Firefox, then re-downloaded Security Update 2009-006.
After downloading both security updates, I manually powered down the computer, disconnected the power cord for 2 minutes, then re-powered on the computer.
I immediately installed Security Update 2009-005 and restarted the computer.
Once it restarted, I opened up Pages and was successfully able to use the command "File->Open" to open both templates and previously created files.
I then opened FCP6 with no issues, and successfully opened and re-saved an existing project file.
I then re-installed Security Update 2009-006, and re-started the computer according to its prompts.
At first, it appeared that the issues were resolved. I opened Pages and was able to use the command "File->Open" to open an existing template.
I then quit Pages and attempted to open a new Finder window. Immediately I got a spinning rainbow ball and got the message on my screen "System Failure" etc etc, and the last line read something about "Panic" or "System Panic - we're holding here..." or something to that effect. Quite strange.
I'm now in the process of attempting to repair disk permissions using Disk Utility. The permissions that seem to be out of order are with:
private/var/log/secure.log (what and where is this???)
    System/Library/CoreServices/Airport Base Station Agent.app/Contents/CodeResources"
    various Airport Utilities
    Various FrontRow
    Various backrow
Several places I don't recognize such as usr/bin and usr/sbin
And internet plugins related to FlashPlayer

How full is the hard drive?

  • Security Update 2009-006 crashed my Macbook 13" (Intel Core Duo)

    Hi all,
After accepted the automatic updates proposed by the OS, I was soon invited to restart the machine.
No files were downloaded (Security Update 2009-006, Itunes and Safari updates as well)
After rebooting the macbook, a grey screen with the apple logo and the turning wheel is showing for 1 to 2 minutes..... and this is repeated forever between the classic chime start up.
I repaired permissions from my DVD OS X Leopard and nothing happens.
Could you pls help to solve this problem ?
    Regards to all there,
    Daniel - Patagonia Argentina

    HI Daniel,
*"I repaired permissions from my DVD OS X Leopard and nothing happens."*
Not the same as making sure the startup disk is ok.
Boot from your install disk and check the startup disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
    What is Safe Mode
Update your system software to 10.5.8 using the Combo update available here.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1058comboupdate .html
After updating to 10.5.8, run Sofware Update.
As with any software update(s), repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Can't Download Security Update

I have tried to download Security Update 2008-006 (intel) using Software Update and also Apple's download web page. It starts to download and gets about 15% downloaded and then stops. After a minute the down load cuts off as the connection is timed out using Time Warner Cable.
    Any suggestions to fix this?

    HI Lloyd,
Sometimes a software update can't do it's job if there isn't sufficient free drive space. Select your MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click Command + I The Get Info window will open. Where it says: General click the black arrow. Look where it says: Capacity and Available. Rule of thumb, never allow available drive space to fall below 15% of the total drive.
Also, try deleting the Software Update preference file. com.apple.softwareupdate.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. From the Preferences folder, drag that file to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. Sometimes that helps also.
Always run Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) and Repair Disk Permissions BEFORE and AFTER any software updates or upgrades.

You wrote "I use the update to download Security Update 2006-006."
Do you mean that you used the automatic Software Update feature on your system?
    "...it stopped download until 40.7mb,..."
Does this mean that downloaded file was 40.7 MB?
"I went to www.apple.com/support/downloads site to download the full files ..."
Is this Security Update 2006-006 (10.3.9 Client), what you downloaded?
If so, how many MBs was the download, when finished?

    Hi G,
If you're not using Software Update (in the Apple menu), use that.
If you are using SU and getting that message, try going to http://support.apple.com/downloads/ and downloading it, then install it.

  • "Disk Images Fail to Mount/ OS X 10.4.10/Security Update 2007-006?"

Whilst downloading the most recent Mac OSX Update, 10.4.10 to a PPC G3, 600 MHz, with 1 GB SDRAM, I received an un-explained error message. Since then, my USB Web Cam doesn't function, some applications don't load, and I consistently get a Warning Message that disk images fail to mount as device not configured. Moreover, I got the distinct impression the aforementioned issues were related to the problem of installing Security Update 2007-006 which was roughly released at the same time.
How can I proceed to get matters back to normal? Would deeply appreciate advice from Apple Forum/Technical Support person(s) in all convenient speed. SOS!
    Yours sincerely,
    Joseph.
Power PC G3   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   How do I uninstall the 10.4.10 update?

The problem took a somewhat bizarre twist when I got a phone call just after double clicking on a disk image file set to open with DiskImageMounter. When I came back from the phone call (about 2 minutes), the disk image was mounted, the MacBook wasn't frozen, and everything worked. With repeated testing, it now appears that both DiskImageMounter and Disk Utility hang for 65-75 seconds after starting the process of mounting a disk image and then complete the task successfully. Deleting the two cache files eliminates the hang (spinning beach ball), but only for a short while.

  • Unable to Reboot After Latest Apple Updates (SA-2011-06-23-1 and Security Update 2011-004)

    Hi All,
After applying today's updates (06/23/2011) in APPLE-SA-2011-06-23-1 Mac OS X v10.6.8 and Security Update 2011-004, my MacBook will no longer boot. Prior to updating, the MacBook workked perfectly (except for the occasional error entry in the system and kernel log). The MackBook model number is A1278, with a RAM upgrade (4 GB).
When booting in NORMAL mode, the grey screen with Apple logo (and spinning wheel) is shown for about 50 seconds. The device never shows the blue background or login window. It simply shuts down like the power was pulled.
When booting in SAFE mode, the grey screen with Apple logo (and spinning wheel) is shown for about 1 minute 30 seconds. The blue background is shown and quickly transitions to the login windows. About 45 seconds after the login window is shown, the machine shuts down like the power was pulled.
On the few occassions I logged in to take advantage of the 45 second safe mode window (before shutdown), I was *not* able to copy off my log files (in /log/var) to a thumb drive because the computer would not mount the USB device.
When I peeked at the system's log file, I caught the tail end of "signature validation failed" for a bunch of hardware - from video to audio. I can only peek because the computer will shutdown before I have an opportunity to study anything in detail. The failed verifications may or may not be related to the shutdown - signature verfication might be disabled in safe mode; I simply don't know.
It seems the world's most advanced operating system [tm] is performing the world's most epic failure. Any ideas to get this brick working again would be greatly appreciated.

    Here's what I've found:
    (1) I cannot run Disk Utility because I don't have my install disk handy
    (2) I cannot run Repair Permissions because Apple does not make a separate ISO available to fix their mistakes
    (3) There does not appear to be a wat to back out updates (ie, no Add/Remove Programs)
I was able to boot into safe mode and perform:
        > sudo bash
        $ chmod -R root /
Amazingly, the command ran to completion. Unfortunately, it did not fix the problem. As soon as some spare cycles were available (interesting indeed!), the machine shutdown.
+1 to Apple engineers for creating a broken patch
+1 to Apple quality assurance for letting the junk out the door
+1 to Apple, for not offering an ISO to fix a broken installation
+1 to Steve, who has managed to keep his anti-trust lock on the hardware and broken software
    Great job, Apple

  • Please read this before you load SECURITY UPDATE 2010-006

I've just spent 72 hours with frozen cursors and frozen screens - so far all directly related to security update 2010-006. After successfully using SuperDuper! to erase my Internal HD and load a 2+ week old system without security update 2010-006 I seem to be fine again.
OK I have so much share-free ware on my MBP-13" (May 2010) running 10.6.4 that maybe I'm the only one on the planet to see this - but there is a 214 PAGE post for MBP-15 and MPB-17's freezing -- prior to Security Update 2010-006 ------ related or not, don't know.
I believe I will actually get a duplicate MacBook Pro (or at least a MINI with the same chip/speed) so that I can keep one clean and experiment (i.e. download stuff) on the other. Then if a problem, my life doesn't stop. I realize that from banking to photos to news to work to reports to my balance sheet to SKYPE to eMail to....... wow, and in 1983 I just had my HP calculators!! These Macs just have to work!
Best of success and comments welcome here.

Thanks for the feedback! I think my system is now "OK" (hours of checks, with Apple as well etc. etc.) but likely there was a conflict - and since I don't know what - and since I can't remove everything right now - if this keeps working I just won't install the security update 2010-006.
BUT will this sneak up on me in security update 2010-007 or ??? I kinda have to get to the bottom of this - am actually thinking of buying a second, almost identical Mac (or at least a somewhat cheaper MINI 2.4 gHz) to have some backup beyond my external drives (which saved me!)
Thanks again and any/all comments truly appreciated.
    Best regards,

  • Will there be a Security Update 2009-006 for Tiger PPC

Apple released Security Update 2009-006 for Leopard today, but not for Tiger.
Is there going to be any more support and updates for Tiger, since Snow Leopard came out?
    Thanks

    Hahahahah, yeah....
Actually, I just tried to reply to your message using Safari 4.0.4 and repeatedly got this error:
    Request Timeout
The server timed out while waiting for the browser's request.
    Reference #2.4da21160.1258046993.0
It did that with another page too, but is loading others fine. I am wondering if there is an issue. I may have to downgrade to 3 again, if that is possible.
I got used to using Firefox because I just upgraded from OS X 10.3.9 and had to use Safari 2.x, which doesn't work so well with the web anymore.

  • Security update 2011-003 cannot install

I've tried everything on multiple computer to install the Security update 2011-003. At first, it downloads, but it stalls during installation. Then I downloaded the install direct from Apple. It installed, but stalled saying it had 1 minute until completion. That lasted over an hour. I ran disk utility, then the direct install again and the same thing happened: installed until 1 minute until completion and stalls.
Anybody else with the problem and solutions?

Exactly which version of Mac OS are you on? 10.6.?
And, which model Mac do you have?
The security update is for OS 10.6.7 only. Not sure if the new 2011 iMacs need the update or not.

    sundance2548,
First of all, Welcome to Apple Discussions Forums!
You did not state if you Repaired Permissions using Disk Utility from your HD before and after downloading the update which is an important consideration if you had a problem post download.
If not, run Repair Permissions from your HD Disk Utility>First Aid tab>Repair Permissions and see if it helps.
Security updates can wreak havoc on apps such as Apple Mail and iChatAV (sorry I don't use Eudora so I can't address that) but "usually" only if one has not Repaired Permissions before and after the Software Update.
I had trouble with one Security Update and it was due to not Repairing Permissions.
I won't pretend to know the ins and outs of how Security Updates interact with the stated applications when installed but I know that if you are prudent and make sure to Repair Permissions (with any update before and after) you normally should have no problems.
That said, problems can also be caused by conflicting third party software. That is where I would look next if still no luck.

after i update the leopardserver 10.5.8 to the actual security update 2009-006 (Server), the ical server was not available anymore. the ical client say something like "host disclaims access".
