Error in images & videos using Firefox 4.0.1

Ever since I've upgraded to Firefox 4 (and 4.0.1), there are occasional graphical errors in web images and videos, which look like multicolored lines, thin shapes or tetris shapes. It occurs on videos from sites like Hulu and images from Google Images. I tried doing a screenshot of a Hulu video with the error but the error does not replicate in the screenshot. Help!

Change the settings, in FireFox, to make PDF documents open up with Adobe Reader, instead of opening within the FireFox browser.

When you click the download link on [http://getfirefox.com GetFirefox.com], you should be asked if you wish to Run or Save the file. If the described situation happens when trying to Run the download, try instead to Save it and put the file on your Desktop or a similar place where you are certain that you can find it again.
When the download is complete, try double-clicking the downloaded file in the normal Windows Explorer (browse your way to the file from My Computer). This should start the installation.
If you notice in the Explorer window that the file seems to be lacking the Firefox orange/blue icon, rightclick the file and select Properties. The picture should look somewhat like the attached picture (except that mine's in danish, but that is irrelevant) if saved correctly - if it does NOT look like this, please describe the contents or attach a screenshot of the box. Especially what it says under "File type" - it should be "Program"; if it's not, we'll have to look into what the problem could be here.
Slightly off-topic, your Internet Explorer seems to be quite a bit out of date (IE 6, where current version is IE 8), so I would strongly recommend that you try to run Windows Update to get your system updated. If this is a company system (like a Terminal Server thin client machine), this may not be possible, and your system administrator will most likely have to help you.

  • All of a sudden I cannot watch any videos using Firefox, not even from YouTube. Why?

All of a sudden I cannot watch any videos using Firefox. All I get is a square black box. I can see them if I use Safari. Why isn't my Firefox working? What can I do? Thanks.

Try clearing the Cache in Firefox.
    Tools-> Clear Recent History -> [v] Cache
or Firefox->Preferences->Advanced->Network -> Offline storage -> [Clear Now]
Try clearing the Youtube cookie in Firefox->Preferences->Privacy
    refresh page.
If that still does not work then try making the youtube url as http'''s'''://
It is apparently a issue with Youtube as people with other browsers are getting the same. http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?hl=en&tid=3cda4dac122b8f13

  • Since I updated to Firefox 8 on Mac OSX 10.4.11, Firefox will not open anymore (not even previous versions downloaded via Safari). I get the error message 'You cannot use Firefox with this version of Mac OSX' (translated from Dutch).

I have tried creating a new profile, problem remains the same.
None of the 3 accounts on this desktop can use Firefox anymore. This has never been a problem. Today (14.11.11) I updated Firefox to 8, and nothing anymore. Via Safari I downloaded Firefox 7 to reinstall, same error message.

Beginning with Firefox 4, Macs must have an Intel x86 processor (which you do have) '''''and''''' OSX 10.5 or higher (your version is OSX 10.4).

  • Images downloaded using firefox (android) not recognised properly - cant attach pics for mms

    Hey
I have been experiencing a problem on my HTC one x where images downloaded through firefox for android will not behave properly in my phone. Attempts to attach pictures to text messages are met with a pop up saying "unable to attach media".
Inspecting the details of these pictures in the gallery app showed that the file type field is blank (hence being unable to attach it to a mms, another symptom is that gifs display as a still image of the first frame of the gif).
Inspecting these pictures using a file browsing app shows that they all have the correct extensions for their file type. Renaming the pictures (without changing the extension) within the file browser seems to fix the problem - their file type shows up correctly within the gallery app, pics can be sent via mms and gifs become animated.
I am only experiencing this issue with firefox, the same images downloaded with different browsers all work perfectly - i dont have to rename them to get my phone to recognize them properly.
The problem may have something to do with the method that firefox uses to download files - every file i have downloaded using other browsers shows up in my phones stock "downloads" app, while files downloaded through firefox do not (it keeps its own list within the app itself)
Any ideas as to the cause of this problem?

    Talked with a co-worker. This is https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=842037
The workaround is to long tap on the image and select share and then choose message.

  • Cannot post a comment on yahoo or watch a yahoo only video using Firefox

I used to be able to post a comment and watch videos using the Yahoo website. A few weeks ago, I can no longer post a comment or watch video on only the Yahoo site. Other website I can post to and watch their videos. If I go to Google Crome, I can post and watch videos on the Yahoo site, so I know I have not been blocked by Yahoo that would prevent me from this.

Recently both the Yahoo! Toolbar extension and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause an issue like that. Disable or uninstall those add-ons.

  • I have no sound with videos, using Firefox youTube, etc.) With Google Chrome, I get the sound. Why?

When I try to play a video on Firefox. The movie plays, but there's no sound. I checked ALL of the computer settings, and video settings. If I switch to Google Chrome, and play the same video, I get terrific sound. This switch is done without modifying ANY of the controls....just switching browsers. Why no sound?

    Hi TommyB,
It could be a couple of things. You might have accidentally muted audio for Firefox. The article Knowledge Base article [[No sound in Firefox]] will show you how to check.
If that doesn't work, you should look at [[Video or audio does not play]]. This will show you how to troubleshoot any plugin/extension issues that might be impacting your system.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • "Error has occured" msg whenever try a U-tube" video using Firefox 3.6.12, OS 10.5.8

Whenever I click on a link to a U tube video in Thunderbird it takes me to the U tube website and instead of getting the video to play it shows the message "An error has occurred." I can copy and paste the link into Safari and watch the video, but that extra step is a pain.

I'm on Mac OSX 10.6.5 - and exactly the same problem. It seemed to start with Firefox 3.6.12 and 'latest' Flash upgrade (both done at the same time). Ive tried going back to the previous versions, but makes no difference.
Seems to be on 'auto-play' news video clips within the BBC news website, the loading info is 'stats.bbc.co.uk' as the dots spin - then crash...
Very annoying - is anybody looking at this Mozilla?

  • When I enter full screen for a game or video using Firefox the whole "screen" moves to the left, leaving a white space on the right side of my monitor, but the mouse still acts like the image is where it should be, why?

I have the latest Firefix update, and I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. It's annoying, specifically for games because I have to make sure the cursor is to the right (by a certain amount) of the item I wish to click. This issue is only in Firefox, I have tried in Internet Explorer *shudder* and there is no problem, I do not have any web browsers currently installed.

  • 'Connection Error' Sample RTMP video used to work, now no longer works?!

    Hello All,
I had FMS 3.5 developer package installed on my server installed about a month ago. I used to be able to go to the /webroot/ page to see the sample RTMP video play and it worked great. Today, I go to view that page and find that it no longer plays. I get "Connection Error. Please preee Play to try again."
Pressing the play button does nothing, so I click the RTMP thumbnail and it reloads ony to give me that same error again.
I can click the HTTP thumbnail and see the video play just fine. But, I want RTMP and after over an hour on the phone with my managed hosting tech, we can't find anything wrong.
Here's the thing: I haven't done anything, I have not changed anything, I have not manipulated the server software whatsoever. It just stopped working and gives me "Connection Error."
I checked that port 1935 was open, and it is.
    UPDATED:
When I click on the RTMP thumbnail, after the 'Connection Error' message comes up in the player, the following things happen in my server's error log:
    "File does not exist: /folder/folder/folder/fcs"
    "File does not exist: /folder/folder/folder/open"
The corresponding IP is my own.
The /folder/folder/folder/ corresponds to my public_http folder and related file structure for the website, NOT the RTMP server. I have no idea why the F
MS is looking in my public_http for fcs and open, but it is.
    Thoughts?
Please help? Many thanks in advance!
    Sincerely,
    wordman

    SE,
I'm logged on using PuTTY, my server is Linux and I did in fact get to view the log files.
I realize the sample page ought to be discarded as a concern, but I was hoping I might learn something from this.
I don't have the knowledge to try another RTMP player/client, I am brand new to this. I have Flash CS4 Professional, but I need to learn what to do to build a .SWF to play a sample file.
As for player development, I have been doing research on which might be best for me. In the short term I just need a basic player. In the long term, a player with insertable banners (for in-house promotion and identifiaction, not for ads) and a chat function. The banners may not be necessary as I want the player to be located in a stand-alone page as opposed to a pop-up, so I can do banners in the page itself.
I have looked into REOPS and Strobe, but the tech is written in engineer-speak so most of it is zooming right over my head. I'm self-taught with PHP so I know this all can't be THAT difficult. The jumping-off point is hard to find though. I need something in human-speak that's a wee easier to understand. A basic player would be lovely right now. I don't even care about skinning, just colors.
Using the command to check if FMS is running leaves me with 4 lines of info: 5-digit number, ? 00:00:00 fmsmaster (fmsedge, fmscore, fmsadmin)
Does that mean it isn't running? If so, what can I do to restart it and worse, why would it have stopped?
    Thanks for your help!
    Sincerely,
    wordman

  • Javascript errors when opening video in Firefox and IE

I am not a engineer so I've stopped just short of teaching myself how to debug java errors to fix this very annoying problem. When I try to open certain sites with video content I get a string of errors like this:
Error: Error in parsing value for property 'cursor'. Declaration dropped.
    Source File: http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/120269/gamedaycalls
    Line: 430
Can someone point me in the right direction. I made sure to have the most current version of java, IE, and Firefox/Mozilla. Thank you.

  • "Resource Busy" error during image creation, using disk utility when booting up from installation DVD

Hi all, first post to this community, wish all well
I have a MBP which is more than three years old, installed with OSX Leopard 10.6. Recently the MBP failed to to start and I tried to follow some articles online, including some from this community, to repair my disk, and more importantly, to backup data on the startup disk. But it does not work quite well so I try to seek some help here.
What I have done is to bootup with the installation DVD, try to verify and repair the disk using disk utility, which tells me it can't repair and recommend to backup, erase and reinstall. Am fine with this recommendation but now the problem is on the backup part. There are two partitons on this 500GB hitachi SATA disk. One is 300G which is for OSX itself, and the other 200G was partitioned for Time Machine. The repair failure is on the OSX partition which contains most of the recent data that I want to backup/restore. And unfortunately the Time Machine backup was stopped about two month ago, for some stupid decision I have made , while I am hoping to recover some data for the past month.
Currently the SMART status of the whole disk is verified, the OSX partition is unmounted with no details in the Available, Used, Number of Files, etc. From what I have researched (correct me if I am wrong), I highlight the OSX partition from the list on the left, click 'New Image' button on top, and select the destination to try to create an image of the current partition. But regardless of my desintation (Time Machine partition, or external USB drive), the imaging process always failed with Resource Busy error. Some online search suggest that the partition must be in unmount status but seems it does not apply to this case.
Would be really appreciated if anyone can give me some advice on what's the 'resource busy' error mean, how to backup the OSX partition, or what are the other possible alternatives.

Very poor idea to keep the Time Machine backup file on the internal hard drive. They should always be put on an external drive. As when the internal fails you lose everything. Which is what I suspect has happened.
More then likely your internal drive is failing. the only options to get a new internal drive and a SATA to USB adapter. Install the new drive inside the system abd install OS X on it. Then once that is finished and you are booting from it connect the old drive to the system with the SATA to USB adapter and copy your files off the old drive. That is if you can.

  • Blue Q? instead of images when using Firefox

This always happens whenever I update either Quicktime, OSX Updates or the Firefox browser. I reinstalled Flash, I reinstalled Shockwave and the problem remains with most websites. I get the Big Blue Q with a ? in the middle of it instead of the images. What gives? I know my white iBook G3 with OSX 10.3.9 is considered out of date but come on.
I know I read about this in the discussions some time ago, but I can't find anything about it this time.
    thanks

    P. Matthew Russo wrote:
Do you think I should uncheck the box again now or just wait for the problem to strike possibly after my next update to recheck "enable flash"?
I'm not sure, mine is unchecked but if yours is working with it checked you might as well leave well enough alone. You can always uncheck it if the problem repeats.
As I mentioned above, try the QuickTime forum for some tips about it. There are quite a few topics there concerning the problem. Just do a search there for something like "QuickTime update" or possibly "questions marks" and see what turns up.

  • Error while loading video using AIR2 Beta

The following sample code works fine with AIR 1.5 but throws a CONNECTION_ERROR when AIR2 beta is used.
