What is there inside your jxl.jar.
Apache POI library name is poi-3.0.2-FINAL-20080204.jar in the last release available on [http://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.cgi/poi/]. Check your classpath, IMHO it doesn't contain any POI class.

  • The import org.apache cannot be resolved

    Hi All,
    I am a Java\Eclipse newbie. I am trying to import the org.apache.xerces package, and the import is failing with this error:The import org.apache cannot be resolved
    I am not using Maven\Ant for building the project. I know I need to download some class files\jar files to get this to work, but I am not sure where to download these packages from. Could someone please help me out here?
    import org.w3c.dom.Node;
    import org.apache.xerces.parsers.DOMParser;
    import org.apache.xerces.dom.traversal.TreeWalkerImpl;
    import org.apache.xerces.domx.traversal.NodeFilter;
    import org.apache.xerces.dom.DocumentImpl;
    THanks a lot!

    Well, if you are in fact looking to download the JARs for the Apache Xerces project, you should be able to find them at the Apache Xerces project page.
    If you already have the JARs downloaded, you need to make sure that they appear on your CLASSPATH, otherwise your application will never find them. Since you are using an IDE, this should be as easy as adding the JARs to your project.

  • The import org.apache cannot be resolved and I am not sure why?

    Alright, so I decided to build myself the simplest of simplest ftp client so that I could understand how this works:
    Ok, I have parts built but I am trying to include the following things:
    import org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient;
    import org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPFile;The error I am getting from eclipse (which is the editor that I am using) is:
    The import org.apache cannot be resolvedThe same thing happens when I try to do:
    import com.jscape.inet.ftp.*;I have an idea what is going on with this but I am not entirely sure. I think I need a package that I must download from apache or somewhere that might give me access to libraries?
    I would be grateful to any help...
    Thanks,

    Yes you need to have the classes that you want to import. If you have them then you need to add them to your project's classpath.

  • How to read .XLSX files using org.apache.poi.ss.usermodel.* classes

    Hello,
    I want to read in excel files to a JTable. I was able to read in .xls files, but have problems reading .xlsx files. Maybe there is something i need to add to the following code:
    FileInputStream iStream = new FileInputStream(newFile);
    POIFSFileSystem fs = new POIFSFileSystem(iStream);
    Workbook wb1 = WorkbookFactory.create(fs);
    Sheet sheet = wb1.getSheetAt(0);       // get the first sheet data
    // Iterate over each row in the sheet
      Iterator rows = sheet.rowIterator();
       while(rows.hasNext()) {
          Row row = (Row) rows.next();
          .............The compiler is complaining about the 3rd line: Workbook wb1 = WorkbookFactory.create(fs);
    Thanks.

    @ejp:
    I quite agree with you. It's a runtime exception -
    org.apache.poi.poifs.filesystem.OfficeXmlFileException: The supplied data appears to be in the Office 2007+ XML. You are calling the part of POI that deals with OLE2 Office Documents. You need to call a different part of POI to process this data (eg XSSF instead of HSSF)I've tried searching before coming here to ask. HSSF processes .xls files only, XSSF processes .xlsx files only while SS is supposed to read both .xls and .xlsx files. Maybe there's anyone that has used it before who can help out.
    Thanks

    hi All
    please help me in solving that problem, this error occurs when running my project, its for generating report using jasper report tool, exact at the line
    "JRXlsExporter exporter = new JRXlsExporter();"
    her is the code
    try
            JasperCompileManager.compileReport("E:/jasper_template/report2.jrxml");
            tteset = JasperFillManager.fillReport(jasperReport, new HashMap(),new JRResultSetDataSource(rset));
            JasperExportManager.exportReportToPdfFile(tteset,"E:/test.pdf");
            JRXlsExporter exporter = new JRXlsExporter();
            exporter.setParameter(JRExporterParameter.JASPER_P  RINT,tteset);
            exporter.setParameter(JRExporterParameter.OUTPUT_F  ILE_NAME,"E:/test.xls");
            exporter.exportReport();
          catch (JRException e)
            e.printStackTrace();
          }

    I think you have to include jasperreports-1.2.7.jar in the classpathWhat?
    exporter.setParameter(JRExporterParameter.OUTPUT_F  ILE_NAME,"E:/test.xls");mentions a file test.xls which I assume naturally is an excel file.
    POI can be used to modify/read excel files in java.
    HSSFColor is used in POI
    This leads me to the conclusion that POI is missing from the classpath.
    How on earth did you come to your conclusions?
