Error in KDE 3.4.0 rc1??
y execute kmenuconfig
and make a few changes, i put some icons (a lot of sections not have icons) , and organise tha applications in submenus
save k cahnges y look the k-menu and ths icons changed ok, but ths submenus (or the new items created) not appear... :?
it's a error of kde? or the packages are bad?
There are other things happening when you use kmenuconfig. Just try to remove your openoffice links, they come back right away. I don't even have OO1.1.3 anymore, but the links are still there.
I notice that empty sub-menus seem to not show up, there must be some other rule that governs things like this. I was going to look into this anyway, so I will repost here unless someone else knows off the top of their head.
Edit: This page seems to have all the info about the kmenu structure.

(I am still hunting to remove my for my oo 1.1.3 entries)

Hello all, new Arch user here. I've just installed kde and when launching KDE I receive the following error:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (Permission denied)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.
I have tried to chmod 755 /dev/dsp as root but the next time I log on to KDE, I receive the same error. Any ideas?
Thx!!The Wiki is usually helpful for things like this. If you enter 'audio' in the Find field and press the Search button, the article is listed.

ConsoleKit error on KDE startup
Hello,
I've installed Archlinux and KDE, and when logging into KDE a message appears:
Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session: unable to open session: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/style...(the rest is unreadable)
Then KDE starts with a crash handler window for PolicyKit. After that things seems to work. It happenes for every logon. I googled it for a couple of hours but was unable to find anything I could understand. Your help will be appreciated.

Graphical Errors in KDE since e17 install
Hi,
I recently installed e17 from the community repository, and now KDE is having some graphical problems. Buttons are missing or missing text, the bouncing busy icon for launching applications is just a light blue square, the arrow on the panel's hide button is a square as well, and icons are missing from a number of places.
I've tried uninstalling e17, But it had no effect. Any suggestions would be appreciated. There's no question that changing things in E17 can change things in KDE. I was playing around with using E17 as KDE's window manager, and just for fun I changed the icon properties for Firefox in E17's launcher to point to Konqueror, and it made the updates in KDE also. Apparently E17 is directly modifying the desktop file and not storing settings in some sort of configuration file.
By the way, at the time I made the changes, I was not logged into KDE at all, only E17. When I wrote the last paragraph, I was in E17 putting the settings back. Now I'm in KDE, and the settings took here also.

Kde 3.4: symbol lookup error
Switched to kde3.4 today. Some apps are crashing, wich is pretty annoying.
When started from command line they give this error:
symbol lookup error: /opt/kde/lib/libkdeui.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZN12QProgressBarD2Ev
libkdeui.so.4 is right where it's supposed to be, so I don't understand the problem.
Can somebody help?I have problems with kde 3.4. I removed .kde* but the problem persist.
When i maximize a kde app like kcontrol or k3b mi computer hangs and i have to reset by buton
I reinstalled kde, but nothing.
Is posible to know the integrity of packages? -
hello
i've just installed kde but when i type kdeinit, it says:
kdeinit: symbol lookup error: /opt/kde/lib/libkdeui.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZN12QProgressBarD2Ev
what should i do with it?ki77en:
maybe this can help you: i was told to reinstall qt. i did it and finally was able to run kde.
however, after reboot it didn't work anymore...
perhaps you're more lucky...

hmm... how can we know? and what should we do once we know? -
Oxygen theme in KDE 4.6 RC1 doesn't work
I just updated my KDE to 4.6 RC1 and found this as the snapshot shows: http://min.us/mvjgD91
I think I've installed all the theme packages. And I also noticed that other themes like CLEARLOOK work fine. It's worked well here. Maybe what you mean is "preview" for all styles that doesn't work
-
I am getting a kdeinit error when trying to start kde. I have tried reinstalling and uninstalled kdemod and installed the regular kde but still the same problem with both. When I start up kde in pauses at "initializing system" and then blanks to a black screen and that is it. I use fluxbox but ran across this error when I couldn't get kde apps to start in fluxbox. When trying to run kwrite for instance from the command line it would just sit there and do nothing, no program, nothing. So I logged out and tried to log into kde and found it isn't working. I do pacman -Syu to keep up to date but haven't seen any updates on kdemod come through unless I missed something.
Any ideas
ThanksI am also having same kind of error after kde upgrade i get kdeinit error on every startup.
And one more issue i am not able to use calligra-words.Whenever i open new document it shows kdeinit error segmentation fault.
Please help me atleast calligra-writer should work. -
[SOLVED] kde 4.6 and Udisks mounting problems with Dolphin
Hello,
I have a problem with Dolphin in KDE 4.6 where it displays my non-Arch partitions (a / and /home used for Opensuse) as well as a CD-Rom or usb if inserted, but registers an error when I click on the device/partition icon. Specifically, I get the following error displayed at the bottom of Dolphin:
An error occurred while accessing Hard Drive, the system responded: org.freedesktop.UDisks.Error.Failed: Error creating mount point: No such file or directory.
Because of this error, I am unable to mount usb pendrives, access CDs, or access the non-Arch partitions. I'm not sure if this is a KDE error or if it related to Arch as I never encountered this error running KDE 4.6 in Opensuse.
My daemons running in /etc/rc.conf
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus networkmanager netfs crond alsa kdm)
My /etc/fstab
#/dev/cdrom /media/cd auto ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
#/dev/dvd /media/dvd auto ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
#/dev/fd0 /media/fl auto user,noauto 0 0
/dev/sda1 / ext4 defaults,noatime 0 1
/dev/sda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/sda6 /home ext4 defaults,noatime 0 1
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults,nodev,nosuid,mode=1777 0 0
tmpfs /var/lock tmpfs defaults,nodev,nosuid,noexec,mode=1777,size=10M 0 0
tmpfs /var/run tmpfs defaults,nodev,nosuid,noexec,mode=0755,size=10M 0 0
Now, I don't have hal running as a daemon as I have read that it is no longer needed in KDE 4.6. Similarly, I don't have my CD-Rom drive mounted as I read in the udev wiki that Udisks automatically mounts devices and partitions. The wiki also indicates that Udisks is supposed to require little configuration.
I've searched the forum and Google, and I have not been able to find any information documenting a Dolphin and UDisks mounting error in KDE 4.6.
I installed KDE through the # pacman -S kde command, but is there some other package that I need to install in order to get Udisks working properly?
Thanks.
Last edited by Bordee (2011-03-24 16:09:25)When I enter $ groups in a terminal I get the following
sys adm disk lp wheel games video audio optical storage power users
So I'm definitely part of the storage group.
I think I found a solution. I created a /data mountpoint in fstab and a /data folder in my root directory. Now, I'm able to mount and access the contents of the /home partition from Opensuse. The reason I wanted to do this was to access music and photos and transfer them onto my Arch /home partition.
I uncommented the cdrom, dvd, and fd0 devices in fstab and I created /media/cd, /media/dvd, and /media/fl. After inputting a # mount -a, my CDROM drive reads properly as does my USB.
So once again, thank, you for pointing me in the right direction.
One final thought. I was under the impression from reading the UDisks information that it automatically detected and mounted other partitions and devices without them being explicitly mounted in fstab. Was the assumption wrong? In other words, for UDisks and Dolphin to work together properly in KDE 4.6, do all of the devices that appear have to first be mounted in fstab? -
I get some weird graphical errors in KDE and I'm not sure why.
This was taken when I tried to listen to an mp3 in noatun.
When I switch desktops, most of the artifacts are gone.
Any idea what might cause this?I have a Sapphire ATI RadeOn 9800 Pro 128MB and use the ati-fglrx 8.35.5 drivers.
(Un)fortunately, I can't seem to reproduce the error today.
Yesterday I could reproduce it as often as I wanted, even after rebooting.
I don't know much about how to set up the xorg.conf properly, tried my best,
so if there are mistakes, please enlighten me.

Gnome && kde installation failed!!!
1)
I've tried pacman -Sy gnome
pacman -Sy gnome-extra, it installed both of them but can not get gnome to work;
the error is:
can not find libssl.so.0.9.7
I've tried a locat libssl and found libssl.so.0.9.6
i've copied it to libssl.so.0.9.7, and now another error is found
can not find libcrypto.so.0.9.6.
I just finished a few hours ago pacman -Su.
what must I install/update to make this work?
2)
pacman -Sy kde
after he downloaded every thing he said:
error: archive kde-base-3.2.2.1.pkg.tar.gz is corrupted
if I try again
pacman -Sy kde
it won't download and say this again.
what should I do ?kde corrupted pkg:
[damir@Asteraceae /]$ rm /var/cache/pacman/pkg/kdebase-3.2.2.1.pkg.tar.gz
and then try again
libssl trouble:
hmm ...
is your system up-to-date? (pacman -Suy)
if so, can you tell, what programm is searching for 0.9.6?
good luck -
Programs were running slow and jerky. So I tried to see if there was a problem in any of the error logs and found nothing. So I restarted the computer and when the startup got to daemons there was a long pause and when it finally resumed, I got the window for X and not kde. I tried pacman -Q for kde and I get error package kde not found. First why would it go away and second should I install kde 4 or stick with kde 3.9 since I am not that good at fixing some of the problems I have been working on for 3 months yet?
Last edited by smcsw2000 (2008-08-24 17:25:56)I tried pacman -Qg kde and get the following
kde kdearts
kde gwenview
kde kde-common
kde kdeaccessibility
kde kdeaddons
kde kdeadmin
kde kdeartwork
kde kdebase
kde kdebindings
kde kdeedu
kde kdegames
kde kdegraphics
kde kdelibs
kde kdemultimedia
kde kdenetwork
kde kdepim
kde kdesdk
kde kdetoys
kde kdeutils
so looking at this it seems the files are there yet not working? or is some config changed or erased? when I try exec startkde there is a long list of invalid entrys most at the home directory /Desktop/firefox/desktop and the next long list of warnings is that kbuildsycoca has undefined mimetypes
and the last entrys are
konqueror: WARNING: Unknown class in session saved data
X Error: Badwindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
Major opcode: 19
Minor opcode: 0
Resource id: 0x1200006
Could firefox be messing the whole thing up? I did a pacman -Syu a couple weeks ago after I had to force a pacman kde and everything was ok but when I went to firefox I would get two hourglasses in the main panel and one would go away after the internet came up to home page. -
[SOLVED]Installing KDE failed due to invalid or corrupted packages
I am trying to install KDE on my machine. I currently use Xfce. I uncommented a few mirrors and downloaded the minimal package for KDE. When I try to install the packages I get the following errors no packages were installed.

I am not trying to install any testing versions. I just want to install a stable KDE release. I know I am missing something here. So, please guide me on this.
