Error in Loading New York Times Reader 2.0 and other AIR apps

I downloaded Adobe AIR successfully on my Windows 7 laptop running Mozilla Firefox. When I install the Times Reader 2.0 I get the message:
Sorry, an error has occured.
The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file from the application author.
So I deleted the application and reinstalled AIR from the AIR website - I continue to see the error. What gives?

  • Check out the New York Times Reader - Powered by AIR & TLF

    Be sure to check out today's release of the AIR-based New York Times Reader:
    http://www.nytimes.com/timesreader
    The NYT Reader was built using Adobe AIR and the Text Layout Framework. It is one of the most innovative uses of TLF we have seen and we're proud to have it as the largest showcase of TLF and text in Flash Player 10 to date! It is an excellent demonstration of TLF's reflowing text, multiple columns/containers, and top notch typography features.

    I  wonder if another provider would really be much different?  Read some of the other carrier forums - seems to be the same story everywhere.
    I'm not disagreeing with you - I've found that I am usually more informed about Verizon policies and procedures than some of the reps in our local store.

  • I am having trouble running the New York Times Reader (Times Reader) application.  It runs on adobe air. I've reloaded adobe air and the application, but it won't run. Any ideas?

    I can't figure out why the Times Reader won't run on my Mac (OS 10.8.5).  The application opens, but doesn't run.  Nothing shows up on the screen except the menu bar at the top.
    I have reloaded the application, and uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Air, but neither has helped.
    Loooking for ideas.

  • With the latest FF update I can't load the New York Times

    I updated FF and Flash Player today and now I can't load the New York Times - all I get is a page with links. Other sites are loading OK. I've tried changing the security.mixed_content.block_active_content to false and that didn't help.
    I've got FF 36:0 and I use Windows. Does anybody know whether this is a FF problem and if there's a solution?
    I don't think it's my plug-ins because other sites load easily but these are the ones I've got:
    *Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.1.13
    * Citrix Online App Detector Plugin
    * Version 5.40.2.0
    * Google Update
    * Musicnotes Viewer plugin 1.21.0 For more information visit www.musicnotes.com

    * 5.1.30514.0
    * VLC media player Web Plugin 2.1.3
    * NPWLPG
    * iTunes Detector Plug-in

    That's what we are here for.

    There are several other similar posts in this forum with the answers. Your post appears third in my Google search today looking for a solution so I thought I'd add the solution here as well.
    It is obviously a bug in either (or both) Firefox and the NYT.
    The quickest solution is to simply go to the VIEW Menu in Firefox, then the ZOOM option and choose RESET.
    I use Mac and this happens in Firefox 3.6.10. It does not happen in other browsers like Safari, Chrome and Camino, and it did not occur before last week.
    It has also occurred in the iOS version of Safari on iPad. Not sure how to fix it there.

  • Reading TimesDigest pdf from New York Times

    I get a daily email from the New York Times with an attached pdf file called TimesDigest. It's usually about 500KB in size. When I bring up the message in Mail on the iPhone and touch the pdf box at the bottom of the message the pdf opens but all I see is the TimesDigest title at the top of each page and a bunch of blank pages (9 in all). A couple of things are visible, however, the crossword layout and some formating bars, but the document is mostly blank. It reads fine when opened with Preview of Adobe Reader on my Mac.
    Any suggestions on how to fix this on the iPhone?

    It's looks like nothing more than an advert, which you have clicked upon. Probably for some unnecessary scare-ware. You can see the feint overlay that ads have in the bottom-left of the first screenshot.
    Obviously the NYT doesn't vet the ads that are placed on its website which allows advertisers who use fake warnings and notifications to get people to click.

  • Since the most recent Firefox updates, I am having trouble with certain features on The New York Times website; I can no longer see certain weblog comments, or post comments, etc.

    This question is admittedly a little complicated. The New York Times website has a number of weblog pages which include brief stories followed by space for readers to leave comments. You probably need to be a Times On-Line subscriber to really see what I'm talking about, but some examples would be this City Room blog: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/02/bloomberg-cancels-radio-talk-amid-furor-over-aides-resignation/ or this Arts Beat blog: http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/01/theater-talkback-remembering-jerry-leiber-a-reluctant-pioneer-of-the-jukebox-musical/
    Since the most recent Firefox updates, when I view these pages, which traditionally have a number of reader comments at the bottom of the Times' story (or at least a space to leave a comment), I can no longer see the comments. There's simply empty. blank space. I know that the comments are there; if I open Internet Explorer and log on to the same page, the comments are suddenly visible. I don't understand where this problem has come from. I haven't noticed whether I'm missing seeing anything on other websites yet.
    I also cannot post comments on other parts of the Times website; while the pages dedicated to story-specific reader comment seem to load correctly and the space to type my comment does appear, I can't actually submit the comment. Repeated pressing of the "submit" icon has no effect. Once again, this works normally in IE.
    For the record, in the past week, I have changed my computer's anti-virus software from McAfee to Norton 360. I run Windows XP. If there's any another information I can provide, please advise, as I vastly prefer running Firefox to IE.

  • Can't open links on New York Times website

    I have the New York Times as my home page. Until yesterday, I had no issues accessing any of the content within (except for the new Premium articles.) However, when I click on any article, I get an error back that says no data found. If I log in through Explorer, I don't have this issue.
    Just me?

    Thanks a lot for the tip! I wrote to the NYTimes webmaster but did not get a reply. However, the next day my problem was solved and I could access all content as I did previously. Either a coincidence or...? I'll take it either way and thanks again!

  • Have gray screen and unresponsive iBooks 2 program upon downloading Wilson textbook on life. No way to turn pages.  When using new York times app it shuts down and goes to home screens.

    Loaded iBooks 2, downloaded e.o. Wilson textbook on life.  Opened book and only get gray screen without any way to turn pages.  As top menu does not appear cannot even switch to another book.  This occurred on 3rd time of trying to open book,   First two times would result in iPad switching back to home screen.  This last issue also happens when trying to open new york times app.

    Shut down all programs that are running in the background.
    1. Double-click the Home button to see Apps in background
    2. Hold the Apps down for a second or two until you see the minu sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close program
    4. Reset iPad. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo
    Suggest you perform Step 1 to 3 at the end of every day.

  • New York Times app freezes my iPhone

    I'll scan the headlines and poke an article to read and, about a minute or two in, the downloading whirly starts whirling and my iPhone 3G is dead as a brick, often for as much as 3 to 5 minutes. I can do nothing (except click the power button to blank out the screen, but then I can't get it to wake up again). Once it's done whirling, the app closes without warning and I'm back at my main menu screen.
    This happens regardless of whether I am linked to my home wireless router or if I'm on the network (Edge in my neighborhood). It's been happening through at least one update of NYT AND iPhone firmware.
    I'm not alone in this. My wife has my old iPhone and it happens to her. Also, here's a rather poignant qvetch about it online:
    http://gizmodo.com/5081985/hey-new-york-times-fix-your-stupid-iphone-app

    I used the NY Times app when released, and I experienced the same too often. NY Times released an update, which helped somewhat but not enough for me, so I deleted it. NY Times has not released an update for their app in a very long time.
    Such a problem is the responsibility of the NY Times They created the app, or a 3rd party did this for them, and they need an update to address their very slow update download issues at minimum - I don't use any other news apps that take so long to download updates as the NY Times app does, or did for me. I uninstalled what I consider a garbage app compared to other similar apps.

  • New york times updates - safari extension - not refreshing

    New York Times Updates Safari Extension seems to have stopped updating it's info. I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it, but it only added a couple of items from several days ago. Is this feed no longer viable? The version on the Safari extensions web site is 0.1, the same as always.

    Try emptying the Safari cache more often.
    You can do this from the Safari menu bar, click Safari / Empty Cache or Command + Option + E on your keyboard.
    If emptying the cache didn't make a difference, go to the Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari.
    Select the top 5 boxes, click Reset.
    Restart your computer.

    5) Select Email
    6) You sould see your 3 mail accounts listed
