  • IPod Shuffle Help - Cant open files on ipod (blank screen)

    I'm sure it's already been covered here, but I couldn't find anything that helped.
    I have a iPod shuffle, and iTunes recognises it but wants to re-format it (not my biggest problem), and Windows only partially recognises it.
    In My Computer it is listed as an iPod (E:), but when i open it, which it does, it displays a blank screen. It doesn't recognise any files in it AT ALL. But recognises how much free space i still have on my ipod. I can open my ipod files (Songs) on friends and school computers, just not mine.
    It just seems that i'm missing a file of some sort, which is able to read the files on my ipod shuffle, but i just don't no what it could be.
    I have tried every available solution, reinstalling iTunes/iPod, with no luck. I also just added service pack 2 for my windows xp pro and thought that would have solved my problem.
    Any suggestions?

    Have you tried syncing it again? There might be some error during the last sync.. If nothing's wrong, on the left panel, there's your iPod, click on the arrow beside the icon and there's everything..

  • IPOD Shuffle help...

    I got me a shuffle a while back, but I noticed that you need to rebuild the databse EVERY time you add music to it.
    So rather than using ITUNES that renames them and sticks them in different directories on the shuffle, I found a small python script called rebuild_db.py that scans the shuffle and makes the database for you WITHOUT renaming or moving the music, so you can just have all the music in one folder.
    This seemed alot easyer, BUT then I still need to run it before I run umount.
    So I though I would throw a small script together:
    mount /mnt/ipod
    konkorer /mnt/ipod/music  (spellings)
    python /mnt/ipod/.rebuild_db.py
    umount /mnt/ipod
    This seemed to do the job, but the first problem was that it takes the Ipod a few seconds to sort itself out before you can mount it, so I had to add:
    sleep 4
    at the start of the wee script.
    Problem number 2 was if I load up another konkorer (spellings) and closed the Ipod one, it didnt carry on till I closed both. And sometimes it seemed to crash the script because it was still mounted after KonK was closed.
    To get some debug outa it I added a line to open a xterm displaying 'FINISHED' for 2 seconds after the umount.
    So atleast I knew when the script finished.
    But if you leave the konk open for a while it seems to just stop the script come going on.
    I now just have a icon to the device on desktop that I click then open Konk in the /mnt/ipod/music dir to copy over music, then when finished I click another icon (linked to the rebild_db.py script) then I right click the Ipod icon and umount it.
    It seems to work alot better but its abit to long winded.
    What im after is a way to get fstab or whatever to run the python script just before every umount of the ipod.
    I like using the python script coz its fast, and small.
    But overall I wanna plugin my Ipod, find my music I want, right click and 'copy to /mnt/ipod/music' after that it runs the python one, then it umounts it so I can just unplug it and off I go.
    It would be nice if I had something that mounts it for a short time only when its being accessed.
    Any ideas, or programs for ipods?
    I want a quick and easy solid way to stick stuff on it, hastle free.
    Thoughts?

    danalien wrote:don't ask me how yet, haven't quite figured that out yet :-)
    ok, wasn't that hard of a nut to crack :-)
    here's what I've added to /etc/ivman/IvmConfigActions.xml :
    <!-- example - mount /dev/sda # ipod: Dulli -->
    <!-- -->
    <ivm:Match name="hal.info.category" value="portable_audio_player">
    <ivm:Match name="hal.storage.serial" value="Apple_iPod_000A270010BF9175">
    <ivm:Match name="hal.portable_audio_player.type" value="ipod">
    <ivm:Option name="exec" value="/bin/mount /mnt/dulli" />
    </ivm:Match>
    </ivm:Match>
    </ivm:Match>
    <!-- -->
    So, don't forget to change the value for "hal.storage.serial" to $YOURz
    Maybe, one could use:
    name="hal.usb_device.product_id" value="4865"
    or
    name="hal.usb.product_id" value="4865"
    instead of "hal.storage.serial", if one wants to mount every 2G Shuffle in the world :-) (not just your specific copy) ...  but I'm not sure it's the generic product_id for all 2G iPod Shuffle's ....

  • My songs wont play at all on ipod shuffle help!

    My songs wont help i have tryed different head phones a nd everthing please help desperat

    Did this work before, and does not work now for some reason?  Or is this the first time you are trying to use your shuffle?
    If the shuffle is new to you, is the problem that you cannot load songs onto the shuffle, so that's why it does not play?  Or have you confirmed that the songs are loaded using iTunes, but the shuffle does not play them when disconnected?
    When you move the power switch on the shuffle to the ON position, does the shuffle's light come ON?

  • ATTENTION!! If your ipod shuffle is having errors read this solution!!

    Hi,
    Hello Folks, I have experienced countless errors with my ipod shuffle, and for a while I thought about ditching it altogether. Finally I found the solution. And this solution ALWAYS works for me (Worked on three of my shuffles so far):
    *Note - You MUST follow the steps in order!!
    1. Disconnect the iPod from the computer.
    2.Then go to "start> right click my computer>
    manage> services and applications> services> click iPod service> click stop service."
    3.Then connect the ipod and it should show up in my computer. Format it so all content is gone.
    4.Next, go back to "start> right click my computer>manage> services and applications> services> click iPod service> click Start service."
    5.This should have the service running again. Open iTunes and connect the shuffle.
    6.When it says to automatically fill it (the window that pops up) dont unclick it,
    7.proceed so the shuffle autofills. Before it stops, quickly go to the settings tab.
    8.Then, scroll down to where it says "enable disk use".
    9.select that and hit apply. Now, you manually eject the iPod and you can manage your music!
    I had the same problem and several others as you and this eliminated the problem! I hope that helped. Can't take credit for this one. Someone else posted this a while back, but it works.

    I have a brand new iPod shuffle, and I'm trying to connect it and download music from itunes. I've been getting the "iPod cannot be synced", "the required disk cannot be found", and "cannot be restored; an unknown error occured (1418)".
    In reading Apple's solution to the 1418 error message, they tell you to "highlight all 10 lines of text that begins with regsvr32..." Where do I find such text to highlight? I can follow the rest of their instruction, but don't know where to find such .dll text lines. Please help.
    My next step will be to try your solution of "stopping the iPod service". But, will I be lead through the steps on how to "format it so all content is gone" once it shows up in "my computer"?
    Thank you for your help.

  • HT1238 ipod shuffle 4th generation error 1439 how to slove?

    Hi
    Please advise the fixing of error 1439 for ipod shuffle 4th generation.
    Thanks

    Did this work before, and does not work now for some reason?  Or is this a new shuffle you are connecting for the fist time to the computer?
    If this is a new shuffle, make sure the docking cable plug is completely inserted into the shuffle's headphones jack, as shown in this document
    iPod shuffle (4th generation): Not seen in iTunes
    As a test, you may want to shut down (power off) your computer, then disconnect all USB devices (including hubs).  You can leave standard keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  Start the computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle (by itself) to a direct USB port on the computer.
    Are you using the original USB docking cable that came with your shuffle?

  • IPod shuffle causes iTunes to move songs to the trash

    When I plug in my iPod shuffle, it causes various files (AAC, pAAC, and mp3) to be move from iTunes, to the trash. Fortunately, I noticed because at the next sync, iTunes asked if I wanted to import the purchased music from the iPod shuffle to iTunes.
    Here's the kicker. When I tried to restore the iPod shuffle, I got an "unkown error (1418)". I reset everthing, but still got the error.
    Is there any way I can:
    1- Stop this from happening.
    2- Restore my iPod shuffle despite the error message
    Thanks.
    iPod Shuffle 1.1.4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   iTunes 7

    It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3784647?start=0&tstart=0
    If necessary, post the resultings numbers and we can verify what the next steps to take.

    I am using win vista and have installed itunes for my ipod shuffle four years back. now I have purchased iphone 4, and trying to reinstall itunes after uninstalling my earlier itunes i always get a message that error in installation. kindly help

    You might find this article helpful: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
    It has the error range of 3000's which states
    Errors 3000-3999 (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an old version of iTunes is installed, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see error 1004 above), or because of your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again. Error 3194 most likely indicates you do not have the latest version of iTunes installed Update to the latest version of iTunes.

  • When connect my ipod shuffle on itune see error 1418......why help me plz???????

    help me plz

    I too am having the same issue/problem. Unfortunately, my Shuffle 1gb was a christmas present last year, and no longer under warranty. Everything was fine until I upgraded to iTunes 7, then all **** broke lose. I use my iPod Shuffle every day, I've dedicated a substantial portion of my available storage to a seperate iTunes Library ( I have close to 50Gb of music, so maintaining a seperate iTunes Library costs me almost 100G of space). I just updated to 7.1 hoping that the problem may have been fixed,but I am still having the same problem. Replacing this iPod with another is not an option, but replacing it with another competing manufacture's unit that is compatible with my advanced Sound Card (yes, that manufacturer makes both) is a viable option, although not an affordable one. I asked for an Apple Product on reputation and recommendations of other people and online reviews. These problems I am experiencing and from this topic, others are experiencing, seem to me that APPLE IS PROGRAMMING THEIR UPDATES TO FORCE OUR OLDER UNITS INTO BEING OBSOLETE AND JUST WANT US TO BUY NEW ONES.
    If these forums are moderated and/or monitored by Apple personnel, someone needs to respond OFFICIALLY to this thread to address these issues, and reassure us that a fix is in the works either to this software, or a firmware update for our iPods.

  • IPod Shuffle Error (-48) : Windows Vista

    Hoping someone can help with my predicament here:
    I have Windows Vista Ultimate and the most recent version of iTunes. I bought the shuffle new about 2-3 months ago. When I connect my shuffle it always gives me the error in the screenshot below and prompts me to format the device as well. It will also do this each time a song changes if I am listening to the songs on the iPod through iTunes. When transferring songs to the iPod it prompts me with these pop-ups for each song that is loaded.
    I have tried to search for that error code and have not had any luck. Has anyone run into this issue before.
    All software is up-to-date: Windows/iTunes/Shuffle Firmware
    Thanks for any feedback!
    Here is a screenshot of the errors:

    Hi, I would suggest you to try Temporarily changing the Time Zone setting and then Open the latest version of iTunes and Restore your iPod. After successfully restoring your iPod, change the Time Zone back to your normal setting.
    Hope this works.
