Error in opening pdf - adobe reader xi

I have Adobe Reader XI and windows 7 OS. Whenever i open a pdf, the following error message appears:
Adobe Reader could not open the file ".pdf" because it is either not a supported file or because the file has been damaged (for example it was sent as an email attachment and wasnt correctly decoded).
Please Help.

Try to save the attachments to disk; can you open them from there?
If not, it means that the attachment has been damaged during the email transmission.
It is usually not a good idea to attach documents (especially large ones) to email messages.  Better upload them to a file sharing site (https://files.acrobat.com/, https://drive.google.com/, https://www.dropbox.com/, ...).  If the doc must be attached to an email message, then it is better to compress it to a ZIP file first.

  • Error while opening pdf in reader in windows 8:Can't open this file. There's a problem with file format

I have a problem with a pdf file which does not open with reader in windows 8 but it opens properly with adobe pdf reader. All other pdf can be opened in reader. But when i open a pdf(see this link for pdf for which i got error http://incometaxsoft.com/temp/Form.pdf)
it gives error as "Can't open this file. There's a problem with file format".
The same file opens properly in adobe pdf reader. You can check the pdf file which i have mentioned in the link above. But the reader which comes with windows 8 can open some other pdf in the same PC.What may be the error causing this??

This has turned out to be an enormous issue for me as I sell PDF files as ebooks. I have done a fair amount of investigating this for my system.
My files have to be compatible not just across readers but across operating systems.
To date, I have over 200 PDFs that have functioned flawlessly across Mac, PC (Windows 7 and below), Android, iPhone/iPad, Linux.
I personally test my PDFs using a variety of readers and PDF editors including
    PDF XChange (my favorite)
Foxit (runner up for me and I recommend for most people)
    Adobe (the bloated monster)
Nitro 9 (great for moving graphical elements around)
    ABBYY
And the Nuance PDF Create toolsets
Those are off the top of my head. There are a bunch on Android that I test with too.
I am running the Windows 10 Pro Tech Preview and I have this same problem so I know it isn't fixed yet in any kind of pre-release way (-sigh-)
Here is what I've learned for my situation
The PDFs I created using NUANCE'S PDF CREATE PROFESSIONAL VERSION 8
all fail using the built-in Windows 8/10 PDF reader.
When I look at the PDF properties for these Nuance created files, the underlying engine used to write them is called "ImageToPDF". Using ABBYY it indicates their own engine as does everyone else that I've tried. It is easy for you to check to see
what created your PDF by doing a "Control D" (look at the document properties). Perhaps there's a common engine causing issues.
If I use the exact same source files to create a PDF using any of my other tools I have no issues. I checked the PDF versions made by the tools and they are all set to 1.5.
A customer mentioned being able to convert them in a way they worked by saving them without having to do any kind of extraction, but I have not been able to duplicate that. Perhaps he did a "print" which seems like it could work.
In summary, the workaround everyone is talking about, using an alternate reader, of course works. But not everyone wants to change.
The culprit I have found is my Nuance PDF Creation tools that are using the ImageToPDF engine.
I hope it gets FIXED as I really don't want to have to regenerate all of my PDF files.

Error message says need Adobe reader 8 or 9 installed to open pdfs from web pages yet Reader 9 is alredy installed on computer. Is this a 64 bit ossue although I am sure I did not have this problem prior to a replacement hard drive being installed.

  • I created a brochure in pages and exported it to a pdf format. The pdf looks and opens perfectly using preview but when opened in adobe reader (which my printer uses), fonts look odd, transparencies don't display...etc. Tells me error exists on page?

I created a brochure in pages and exported it to a pdf format. The pdf looks and opens perfectly using preview but when opened in adobe reader (which my printer uses), fonts look odd, transparencies don't display...etc. Tells me error exists on page?

Does this essentially mean there is no way to fix this problem on my end? It's a pity because the design and branding of my brochure will suffer if I remove transparencies and use different fonts. It also concerns me moving forward because it means the quality of print on my pieces will be significantly lower because most commercial printers use Adobe products.

  • PDF does not open in Adobe Reader 7

I am working on a  project where we create PDF documents with FOP. The generated PDFs open in  Version 6, 8 and 9 but NOT 7! We get an error
"There was a problem  reading this document(114)" The document is partially rendered and disappears  when you scroll down etc.  I need to know is there a setting specific to Acrobat  7 that is causing this or is there something in the XSL mark-up that Acrobat 7  does not like. I am really under pressure for a fix on this one so any help or  assistance is greatly appreciated.
I have also posted this to the acrobat forum apologies But Desperate!

Apache Fop http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/ takes an xml file and combines with an xsl stylesheet to create a PDF. (Although we are using a .net verion FONET). This is a problem with Adobe Reader 7.0. I cannot upload a file since the material is highly confidential (a criminal record!) I can confirm that this has been tested on several machines. The PDF is valid and can be opened in Adobe Reader versions 6, 8, 9 and Foxit but not Reader 7. I can only assume that there is something in the generated PDF that Reader 7 does not like and perhaps this is a bug since the PDF can be opened in earlier and later verions but not 7!

  • Why cannot I copy selected text from a pdf file opened in Adobe Reader XI?

    Hi all,
I had a problem when I tried to copy some selected text on a pdf file([Linux.System.Programming(2nd,2013.5)].Robert.Love.文字版.pdf) , which was opened in Adobe Reader XI as below (non-English version):
The error's text could be primarily translated as "An error occured when copied to clipboard. Internal Error." I'm not sure about the reason of this. I guess it is a problem or bug related to operating system or Adobe Reader XI. I had this problem when I used other versions of Adobe Reader though I cannot remember the exact number of versions now.
The version of XI I'm using is 11.0.0.  The operating system is XP SP3.
As I was writing this question, the problem disappeared and I cannot reproduce it again now.
Could anyone help explain why the error message appearred or why the problem disappearred? If there is referrence provided, that would be finer. Thank you.

    The document has been protected.
Even if it doesn't have a password, the original author has applied "plagiarism" prevention to it.
There is a program from Wondershare, called PDF Password remover, that will remove such restrictions, but I'm not allowed to recommend it, only to point out it's existence.

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You may want to try deleting the digital booklet and downloading it again. This article explains how:

  • Error message in an Adobe Reader PDF document

"There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (0:104)."
We have exited, reopened the file many times and have rebooted many time, but get same error.  The PDF file continues to refuse to download.  Any ideas on how to fix?
Also, Adobe Reader will not update to my laptop that is running Win7.

If you are seeing that when trying to download and view a PDF in a Browser, then you need to open the Adobe Reader program from the Applications folder and accept the license agreement. If you are getting that when trying to open the Adobe Reader application, then you should ask Adobe.

  • Email pdf to iPad - is there a way to open multiple pdfs at one time without having to hold each individually and open with adobe reader?

I have a large number of pdf files to send to an iPad and it is taking forever to hold down each one and then choose to open with adobe reader.  Just wondering if there is a way to select all from the email to do the same action?

Not that i know of but an alternate would be to use something like dropbox instead of mail. Their app works very well.

  • PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader

I consider Preview to be a swiss army knife when it comes to working with PDF and graphic files. Lately (since the last OS update?) PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader. Reader either crashes or just becomes unresponsive. I've been able to open the files in older versions of Adobe Professional but Reader 8 or 9 can't open the files. Anyone else experiencing these problems?

Yes. We noticed this problem after upgrading to 10.6.7. When we made a PDF from Word 2011 or even Text Edit through Adobe's "Save as Adobe PDF" it would hang. When we made a PDF using Apple's "Save as PDF" it would lock up Acrobat Pro 9 and also Acrobat Pro X. NOTE that this only happened using Adobe OTF fonts.
I posted this problem on Adobe's forum and received a message from admin there that this was caused by a change in font handling with Apple's 10.6.7 update.
As of yet, no solution has been posted. I also received a message from Adobe's Tech Support that it was forwarded to their engineers.
    Still waiting.

  • PDF Opening in Adobe reader with previous/next buttons always showing

Is there any way to make it so when a specific pdf is opened in Adobe Reader, it always opens with the previous and next buttons showing, regardless of the user's settings?
    Thanks in advance.

    No.

  • How do I save/download a PDF file  as an actual PDF that opens in Adobe Reader?

When I save/download a PDF from Google Chrome it always saves as an Internet Explorer file instead of a PDF that opens in Adobe Reader.
    Why is this?
And how can I fix it?
I really need PDF files for school and work.

What means "an Internet Explorer file"; what is the file type / extension?
Also, how do you "save/download" these files?

  • Can I force the pdf to open in Adobe Reader?

    <Captivate 7>
    Hi,
In my lesson, I have a link that opens a pdf.
The pdf opens in the browser.
Is there any way to force it to open in Adobe Reader?
    thanks!

    Hi there
This is a question that is likely better suited for the forum supporting PDF reader. However, I seem to recall seeing something a year or four back that said this was a preference for each user. If that still holds true today, it would mean that you really have no control over it from the authoring end and machine A might open it and see it in the reader as you want, while machine B might open it and see it in the browser.
Hopefully others will share more light on this. Until then, I'd recommend using Google to search for opening PDFs from browser links.
    Cheers... Rick
