    Dear Thamizhchelvan,
I think you must be working in ECC 5.0 or ECC 6.0 version.
If so means first create a material say test using material type PROD - Product group in T Code MM01
and then assign the members in MC85/MC86 for the product group.
    check this link
    product group
    This will solve your problem.

  • Automatic Product Group Creation.

I'm wondering if I can create Product Groups automatically.  My problem is that I have 110 Product groups in Excel and they are assigned to 2500 materials. Now I want to move to have those product groups in SAP. Creating "PROD" material and then assigning them in MC86 is painfull.
Is it possible to do it with LSMW or someting like that? If yes please provide step by step tutorial.
    Thanks

sure it is possible with LSMW, is there anything that cannot be loaded with LSMW?
    LSMW is well documented:

  • Error during Production Order creation

    Hi All,
Our's is MTO scenario. We have maintiain Account Assigment Category as 'M' in Requirement Type. During creation on production order with ref to sales order system gives error "Account assignment cannot be carried out because of different origin no."
If I create the production order with ref to quotation system does not gives any error. But my requirement is to create the prod order with ref to sales order.
    Please guide
    Regardsd

    Hi Bala,
    In SPRO goto>Sales and Distribution> Basic Functions-->
Availability Check and Transfer of Requirements
    -->
             Transfer of Requirements
    -->
                 Define Requirements Classes
                 Define Requirements Types
-->      Determination Of Requirement Types Using Transaction
Determination Of Requirement Types Using Transaction
In the standard system, requirements types are determined according to a specific search strategy beginning with the material strategy group.
Strategy for Determining the Requirements Type
    1. First, an attempt is made to find a requirements type using the strategy group in the material master.
    2. If the strategy group has not been maintained, the system will determine it using the MRP group.
    3. If the MRP group has not been defined, the system uses the material type instead of the MRP group when accessing the corresponding control tables.
    4. If no requirements type is found here, the system assumes a special rule and attempts to find a requirements type with the aid of the item category and the MRP type.
    5. If this is not possible, a last attempt is made to find a requirements type with the item category only.
    6. If the last attempt fails, the system declares the transaction as not relevant for the availability check or transfer of requirements.
    Note
You can select an alternative search strategy in the 'Source' field, for example a transaction-related procedure for determining requirements type (source = 1 or 2).
    Example
There are business transactions, such as consignment stock processing, in which the material with its planning characteristics is not important, rather the transaction itself. An issue from the customer's consignment stock should not trigger an availability check against planning at the plant as layed down by the planning strategy but rather against special stock.
    Actions
    1. Assign the item categories and MRP type to the requirements types.
    2. Select an alternative search strategy in the 'Source' field if necessary.
By assigning the 1 or 2 to the Source you can have the requirements in MD04 refered to order instead of the initial source document which is usually quotation. If we don't assign this then the system by default refers to the initail document created i.e. Inquiry or Quotation whichever is the first document.

    Karthik.

    Hi,
You might have marked some field as mandatory . And as in product group creation we have limited view so that error might be occuring .
Check what field you have marked as mandatory in t code OMS9 and OMSR

  • Error while creating Product Group in SOP

    HI Gurus,
When I am trying to create the product group in SOP in MC84 , I get follwoing error.
"Product group cannot be created (batch input error 7)  Message no. MA218"
    how to slove this?
    Thanks in advance.
    RG

    Rajiv,
Basically if there are mismatch in the Field selection and fields visible in MC84 you would get this error.
The workaround suggested by SAP is to create a product group using MM01 with material type PROD, latter on using the change product group transaction MC86 you can assign its members.

  • Error during Creation of Product Group

    Hi experts
I am getting below error during creation of Product Group MC84,
    how to solve this
The field  is defined as a required field; it does not contain an entry
    Message no. MG144
    Procedure
    Transfer a suitable value.
If the field is the material group or unit of weight, and the field is not ready for input, check whether the material is locked. If it is locked, you cannot extend the Purchasing view or the Sales view. If either of these views needs to be extended, the material must first be unlocked. This can be done only by a user with special authorization. Contact your system administrator.
    Note
For information on locking and unlocking material master records, see the SAP library documentation Material Master (LO-MD-MM) ->Locking Material Master Records.

  • Error While creating a Product Group

    Dear All;
When running MRP, we would like to run it for specific materials only.
To do so, we need to group the materials in product groups.

  • Error while creating the product group by MC84

    Hello Friends,
I am creating the product group by MC84, and in product group field i have given the product group name i.e P2345, and its description i.e product group for waluj, plant i.e cw01 and Base unit i.e KG.Now when i press enter system is throwing the error"The field is defined as the required field;it doesnot contain an entry."Message no.MG144.And with this error system is placing the cursor on product group field. As i have already given product group name than also system is throwing the error.
Though i know the alternative method to create product group by MMO1 and selecting the material type PROD, then also i want to know why system is throwing the error while creating the product group by MC84.
       Please guide.

    Dear,
This message says that you have not entered a mandatory field.Enter proper values for all mandatory fields and then you will not get this error.
Try to create the product group as material of material type"PROD"
Then you go on adding the memebers in SOP Transaction.
In some of the versions of SAP it is the problem.
I have also faced this problem in some versions.

    R.Brahmankar
