Hi Pierre,
thats fine that I should nt contuinue the installation if the prerequisties isnt match
but my question is "if we are doing the same installation in GUI based then we have to select that failed components and verify it again, i.e. I select that failed component and retry it (that the same thing done by me) and its working perfectly..." and my installation is successfully completed with any errors.
So, how can I do the same thing through command line, IF I want to retry for the failed components?

Installation of Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.3 on Windows 2003 Server
Hi Guys,
We have to install Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.3 on Windows 2003.
I read on net, metalink and OTN as well and it seems there is no single 10.2.0.3 setup available to do so.
One has to upgrade from earlier version to 10.2.0.3.
Is that so? Is this the only way?
I mean if we want new and fresh 10.2.0.3 then don't we have installer for it?
In this case we will have to install 10.1.0.2 and then upgrade? (we have 10.1.0.2 installable with us)
And if at all that is the only path available then for 10.2.0.3 on Windows 32 bit - Patchset 5337014 i.e. p5337014_10203_WINNT.ZIP from metalink is the correct patch?
Thanks in advance!
Av.Hi guys,
I donwloaded patchset - 5337014, and in its readme it is specified to download and install patch - 5601428.
So I downloaded 5601428 and set ORACLE_HOME and then fired command -
D:\oracle_pathces\5601428>optach apply
and i got error saying -

Can any one help in this?

Web Server Options for APEX Installation on Oracle Database 10g
Hi. We are installation a APEX on a test server that is running Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.4.0. As I understand it there are two Web Server Options:
1) Oracle HTTP Server (Apache)
2) Oracle Application Express Listener
Do both of these work for Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.4.0? I thought I remember reading somewhere that only the Oracle Application Express Listener would only work with database version 11 or higher.Do both of these work for Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.4.0?Yes.
I thought I remember reading somewhere that only the Oracle Application Express Listener would only work with database version 11 or higher. No, that restriction (with the exception of 10g XE) applies to the third web server option which you haven't mentioned: Embedded PL/SQL Gateway (EPG), as discussed in your previous thread: +{thread:id=2201975}+

Companion CD installation - getting Oracle Database 10g installation
Hi everyone,
I want to install the Oracle Companion CD (to use HTTP server and HTMLDB) on Solaris with Oracle Database 10g. I downloaded the companion CD and when running the installer I am getting "Welcome to the Oracle Database 10g Installation". I have already installed the database so my question is why the installer is asking me to install another database ? The documentation is explaining that the user would have the choice to select an HTTP server installation.
Best regards,
OthmanGet the companion CD from the same place as the database. Start at http://otn.oracle.com, click on Downloads, and to to the Database download
Get the step by step instructions from the documentation. Start at http://tahiti.oracle.com, go to the database documentation for the version you are using, click on the Books tab, search for "Companion CD Installation Guide for [your operating system]" or "Companion CD Quick Installation Guide for [your operating system]" and follow the steps.
I strongly encourage you to install ONLY the HTTP server from the companion CD, and to install it into a separate ORACLE_HOME.
After that, I suggest you use APEX instead of HTMLDB (APEX is the next generation of HTMLDB and is MUCH better.) To get that going, start at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/index.html and look at "Documentation and Tutorials" for the installlation guide. -
Error connecting via PHP to Oracle Database 10g XE in Arch Linux with XAMPP
I get this error whenever I try to connect through PHP to my locally hosted Oracle Database 10g Express Edition
Warning: oci_connect() [function.oci-connect]: OCIEnvNlsCreate() failed. There is something wrong with your system - please check that LD_LIBRARY_PATH includes the directory with Oracle Instant Client libraries in <filename>.php on line 10
What can I do?Not sure what to offer for XAMP with php, perhaps it needs a configure pointing OCI8 to your ORACLE_HOME, as well as setting the oracle environment and PATH adjustment in the Apache start script.
Somewhere under /etc there should be an init.d or perhaps rc.d directory with maybe an apache2 script that gets called at system boot or run level change. It will take editing that shell script and adding something like:
export ORACLE_HOME=/usr/....
export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATHAnd restarting apache ... $ [sudo] {RC path}/apache2 restart or $ ...apache2 stop followed by an $ ...apache2 start all depending on how the boot/inits are setup on the box.
And in your $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora adding a tnsalias won't hurt (as long as the whitespace as well as matching parenthesis are all in order)

Need step by step installation of oracle database 10g on mac os x (10.5)
Does anybody know step by step installation of Database 10g on mac os x?
ThanksFirst you download Oracle 10.1.0.3: The only supported database version.
Then you beg Apple to send you a copy of Panther 10.3.6: The only supported operating system version.
Then, if you are familiar with FreeBSD and/or Mac OSX, you should have it up and running in a day or so.
If you are thinking you can do this with 10gR2 or above on Tiger or Leopard you might want to consider that dropping a brick on your foot is faster and will generally produce the same sensation. -

but i need how to link this script into the Setup file.
i urgently need ur help bro.................. let me know if u have some idea to fix this problem.
thz for advance. It is important to define which OS you are working with.
Making a blind guess I will assume your are working on a windows environment (after this file fragment: "Dir=d:\oraclexe\TEST")
In order to perform a silent install on a windows environment you should:
- download the appropriate installation executable - eg. OracleXE.exe
- download one of the silent install response file templates
- edit the template with appropriate values for the install questions
- run the Oracle XE installation and specify the location of the edited response file using a command similar to the following: OracleXE.exe /s /f1"<location of edited response file> /f2"<location of silent install log>

Installation error - Oracle Database 10g Express Edition
Hi - I've just tried to install Oracle Database 10g Express Edition from the Oracle website and I'm getting this error.
Error 1327 Invalid Drive: I:\ . I've googled the error but can't find much. It seems that the path is hardcoded into the msi installation package.
Anyone else seen this issue before as I'm at a loss at what to do ?
I'm wondering do I have to create an I:\ drive on my machine but that seems a little unusual
Hope someone can help
Cheers. This problem may occur if you have used the Disk Administrator utility included in Microsoft Windows to change the drive letter of the hard disk that the operating system is installed on, for example, the C drive.
The problem occurs because the Oracle Universal Installer uses registry keys to determine the locations of certain folders that are required to install Oracle. If the drive letter of the hard disk that contains the operating system has been changed, the registry keys refer to nonexistent folders and Setup fails.
To correct this problem, use the Windows Disk Administrator program to restore the drive letter of the hard disk to its original value:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and click Disk Administrator.
2. Right-click the drive whose letter you want to change. On the shortcut menu, click Assign Drive Letter.
3. Select the correct drive letter from the list and click OK.
If you are prompted to quit the Disk Administrator or to restart your computer, do so. Once the computer has restarted, attempt to install again. -

Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Beta 2 Installation
Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Beta 2 Release for Microsoft Windows installation successful, no problems.
Hi Rekha,
The format mask 999G999G999G999G990D0000 is the format mask that I selected from the software itself. I also use this format mask for a single record update. If' s ok, no error, but with tabular form with multiple record update, it shows error .I also changed the decimal point to two digits ,select from software pop-up window (this was tested in the workspace provide by Oracle). It still shows error. Last test I put the space like 1 111,111.00 in a single record update it shows error (but if I put 1 in front of 111,111 without space it's ok-no space before). My point is from user point of view.In the first time user input 100000 the software accept it. Opp! it has to be 1100000. The user comes back after submit and put 1 without comma. It shows error (in tabular form with multiple record update not in single row update). While in the first time the user do not to key any comma at all. This may makes some confuses both the users and the developers which had to check error by adding program to checking some where in Page Processing or Page Rendering.
Thanks

Unable to continue Oracle Database 10g R2 installation on IBM AIX 5.3L
I am facing some difficulties in installing the above. My environment is as follows:
Server is a IBM system P, OS is AIX 5.3L and oracle version is Oracle Database 10g R2 (10.2).
I encounter my problem when asked to changed/edit the shell script when changing oracle users. I can't find the % vi .login file. And I'm not sure how to proceed.
Please advice as to what needs to be done.
Thank youi'm using bash shell. If you are using a bash shell then .bash_profile is used by default.
It is located in user's home, if it does not exist then simply create it.
can this file be edited after installation?Yes. And also you can set the enviroment temporary (just for current session)
I just can't find the vi .login file."vi" is command (text editor very common in Unix and Unix like world)
.login does not need to exist (see .bash_profile as above). Note .login is ignored by bash shell. -
hello
my pc has following configurtion
256mb ram
60gb hdd
p4 2.4 ghz
win xp pro sp2
I want to know if my pc will be able to run " Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) " standard edition on it.
I thought of increasing RAM, but it is not feasible.
I know i could run oracle XE, but can my pc also run the standard edition.
I could not find minimum hardware requirements for standard edition on this site.
anyway, i will use it for sql and and other advanced concepts in RDBMS which i may learn during my course in database. so i prefer standard edition instead of XE
any help greatly appreciated
thanks in advanceI suggest you not to doubt regarding Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) installation.
It is not necessary. If you don't receive an answer within a reasonable amount of time you could edit your thread with whatever ( a period is enough) to raise it to the top once again.
It becomes difficult for us to track duplicated threads and unnecessarily duplicates efforts.

Linking in progress doesn't respond during silent install of oracle db 10g
I performed all required settings for installing oracle database 10g on my remote server (redhat), I set the values of the response file for a silent install of enterprise edition.
The installation works fine till the prompt says --- Linking in progress .
then it takes a very long time without saying anything else, i checked /oraInventory for the log files, but there is no log for the silent install, which might mean that there is no error reported and that the connection or the shell application I am using (putty) has lost connection or something like that.
I tried re-installation many times, but it still stops at the same step, the putty status bar says inactive later on, i then realize that there is no connection or some other failure.
What can I do to fix this?you are welcome, unfortunately you didn't mark this thread as a question so no stars for me .
Nervermind, herewith the feedback on your questions :
Should I make a dbca.rsp ? how would I pass it to my install command line?
In silent mode, DBCA uses values that you specify in the response file or as command-line options to create a database. DBCA does not display any screens or information while it creates the database. It logs all messages (including information, errors, and warnings) in a log file.
From the command line, enter the following command to see all of the DBCA options that are available when you use the silent mode:
$ @ora_root:[bin]dbca.com -help

I tried: ps -efd | grep -i run , alot of process appeared, how would I know if the installer is among them?
try to grep with a much longer name i.e :
ps -efd | grep -i runinstaller
What is fuser * in the log directory ? is this a file I should create or what?
No fuser is a unix/linux command that enable you to identify processes using a file or file structure. The fuser utility displays the process IDs of the processes that are using the files specified as arguments.
So if the runinstaller still active you will see i.e.
fuser silentInstall2008-08-08_10-50-48AM.log
silentInstall2008-08-08_10-50-48AM.log: 14506o
14506 is your process ID
Hope this helps you!
