Error in the forum software

I noticed this before, decided to mention it this time. I can't find the right forum to mention this, but maybe someone knows where to forward it.
I just tried to post a followup to my own message by replying to myself. I wanted to clarify my original question. I was the OP. I can't post it. I get an error message saying I haven't yet indicated whether my problem has been solved, even though I did check the "not solved" radio button. This happened at least once before, a few weeks ago.

I'm replying to myself now, and it seems to work. I think the problem occurs if I try to preview my reply before posting.

Shouldn't the IP address be on the box you bought the machine in? If you have the box, take it to the police as evidence that it's your machine. If I were you, I would set the firmware password when you get it back, but make sure you have the password written down in a safe place. If you forget it, there's only two ways to reset it. Either pay $400+ for the tool that can do it, or pay almost nothing for Apple to do it, I think it depends on where you live. The firmware password is this encrypted password and it can't be hacked either. The password prevents anyone from booting the machine into recovery mode, thus preventing them from restoring the computer to factory settings or performing any other functions. It's not stored in the hard drive so replacing that will be of no use either.

Is the forum software falling apart?

Yesterday I posted a note about the stuck communications counter, which happened again, but this post was nowhere to be found and still has not appeared anywhere. And apparently, others make the same experiences. Seems like there are some problems with the internal forum notification system.
I think some confirmation or note from the forum administration whether or not this is a known issue would be necessary.

I was looking at the installation docs for Jive yesterday, and the thought occurred to me ... how many forum admins (perhaps, "especially Jive based forums") have, by the very nature of the forum subject, a community that is capable of reading and understanding the documentation of the forum software? Who are professionally equipped to do the admins job themselves? In other words, who are quite capable (and willing?) to back-check and fact-check claims about the capabilities of the forum software ...
As I move about other technical support forums, I seem to see a lot more of whatever is used by forums.virtualbox.org, www.unix.com, etc. Just good, basic forum software. Nothing fancy, and certainly no attempt at being "social media". At this point, I think a case could be made for throwing out the idea of 'backward compatibility'. Just archive the current content, and move to a more appropriate platform with a link to the archives.

Error Message "The iPad software update server could not be contacted."

I cannot access the iTunes software update server from my HP laptop.
I tired updating my iPad 2 via Wi-Fi to the new software and it crashed. The dreaded USB and iTunes symbols appeared and I cannot reset the iPad because when I plug it into the laptop I get an error message saying | cannot contact the iTunes software update server.
I tried a manual reset by holding down the reset/sleep and home buttons and the symbols appear again.

HT4097 In regards to the above. I go all the way through, even to the point of downloading the restore. It completes the downloand and I get an error stating the download software is corrupt try again. I did this 5 times with the same result. Can anyo

My wife has an iPad 2. She recently tried to update the OS via wireless internet. The system became totally unresponsive. I finally got the apple logo to come up on the screen, but nothing else. I went online and found out that I could possible restore the system to the original factory settings. I held down the home button and plugged in the USB cable which was connected to my iMac. I went through the restore download to restore the system to factory setting. After the download was complete I ge the following error iPad Software download is corrupt. Disconnect and try again. I did this 6 times with the same result each time. I ensured the iMac was running the latest version of iTunes. I really need some help with this.....can anyone help me please!

I have seen previous versions mentioned in a pop up message before on iCloud.com, but I'm not really sure at all how it would help, as I couldn't get it to do anything.
The best advice I have at this time is to back up your work on your iOS device by regularly saving it to iTunes, if anything goes wrong you can then either load it into the numbers app again on the device or recover it via iTunes on your computer.
My syncs are immediate, I never get chance to see if it works in the background, sorry.

John Cornicello keeps visiting that forum to get the feedback and to get other info that cannot be posted anywhere else like spam messages and the like.
I have also reported that we can't post HTML/CSS codes because the button to do that has disappeared.

I have tried every fix to script errors in the forums and no luck.

My firefox always freezes and gives me script errors every time it loads on every web page I go to and this causes it to completely lock up not even allowing me to use the tools in the menu or help. I have tried clearing my cache, my cookies, going back to flash 10.3, resetting to factory defaults in safe mode and finally uninstalling then re-installing firefox. None of those things have worked. Firefox is my prefered browser and I would like to get it working properly again.

Ya, I knowm it says Jive.
This forum refuses to work with Opera, either for Windblows or Solaris 10 x86 Unix. This area for entering the post does not show up.
I had to start Exploder and I HATE Exploder.
What is even more stupid is the catch-22 in that the forum software is used for the feedback. If the forum is broken, how the Hell is someone supposed to be able to let anyone know that it is broken.
If Adobe wants great forum software, they should use what AVSForum uses. It works with any and all browsers.

I'm speaking mostly from an RIA (rich internet application) use case, which gets much more complicated than a stupid website. A 'forum' like this blurs the distinction a bit, especially when they try to do the crap they're attempting in this jiveware. AJAX isn't well suited for creating real RIAs, for sure. (Here comes the AJAX fanboys to dispute...) Once people realize that these 'frameworks' they're using (because they've already discovered that using AJAX/DHTML/DOM crap themselves sucks @$$) don't address the need to test, update, re-build, re-deploy, and test your "AJAX application" (it's like saying ".bat application") EVERY single time you have a new version of a browser come out--or a new type of browser entirely--perhaps they'll start to realize what the hidden cost of such muppetry is going to be over time. Of course you could just "hope" that most of your users browsers will continue to work correctly (maybe almost 100% even will! lol), without testing and updating if needed, but then you get Jiveware.
Don't get me wrong, with Jiveware, it's most certainly the carpenters more so than anything. It may even be possible to develop decent 'forum' software using AJAX hacks (sparingly), since a "forum" is arguably not such a complex application. (They are however more complex than most people imagine.) But crap tools tend to bring out the fail in the term "incompetent failure jiveware scripter". Crap tools reveal the difference between someone who doesn't know what they're doing at all (jiveware jives), and someone who actually does have some idea of what they're doing more clearly than good tools do.

Code Formating after Forum Software Upgrade

Tags was not automatically converted during the Forum Software Upgrade. What can I do to correct my code in the Forum Topic Re: Display ALV GRID with PHP? The message was posted by myself but I can't edit it.

Hi all,
the new forum version does contain a filter that can handle the old [code] tags. The problem was that we had to turn it off because it permanently ran into Stackoverflow errors and thus bringing the whole landscape into trouble.
Now we have to convert all the old [code] markup in all messages with the new {code} markup. We are currently testing this.
In other words: [code] is no longer supported, the usage of {code} is recommended.

Can't update my Iphone (the iphone software update server could not be contacted)

I've been trying to fix this problem by my self with no luck so I'm writing to you guys, hoping you will have the right answers.
I dropped my iPhone4 today and it turned off, when I plugged it into a charger it showed me a screen of IOS6 (which I didn't had this update updated) and when I "silde right" it wrote that I need to update it by iTunes.
So I opened ITunes while my IPhone was connected that it automatically tried to update it as needed, after 20 seconds of loading I get this error massage:
"the iPhone software update server could not be contacted"
I've tried everything; turning off firewall, update my AntiVirus,restarting my router, restarting pc while IPhone not\connected, changed usb exist (using a back exit atm),changing usb cable and even reinstalled my iTunes (yes, my iTunes is up to date), although when I tried to update my itunes it gives me this error:
"The iTunes update server could not be connacted. Please chek your Internet connection, or try again later. " but I don't think it's related but worth to mention it.
My iPhone is NOT jailbreaked

These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.

Is it just me or is the forum wonky?

For me, ASC forum qua forum is unpredictably wonky.
At times I've tried to post in a thread and find that I'm unable because I'm not logged in even though I'd just logged in. Try logging in again and still find, according to the thread, that I'm not. Go to, for instance, the mini sub-forum main page and that says I am logged in.
Another example -- I log out and the forum does indeed immediately verify that's the case. Return as a visitor, hours later, to a thread I've never before been in and find that I'm logged in.
There's other things, but I haven't been writing them down.
Is this because of the change in forum software a couple of months ago?

You need to login. Clear FF caches. Reload problem page. You need an auto reloader.
Here is my ASC work flow...
1) I login.
2) Start an auto reloader.
Unless you do something every thirty minutes you get logged out. The forum software waits to tell you this as long as it can to keep you in suspense ;-) .

7) Read and answer my old posts. I kind of memorize the time I last posted. ( It's way bad that apple eliminated the last poster to a thread. )
8) I use tabbed browsering. From a list of discussions, hold down the command key then click on the link. You get two tabs this way. The original window will keep where you have been.
