Error in Trace: TopLevelNavigation.PrintNode: Fail to retrieve window info
Hello,
When I look into the default trace, its filled with this particular error:
"TopLevelNavigation.PrintNode: Fail to retrieve window information (node might be of type folder)".
Could anyone please let me know why this is showing up all over the trace?

Hi all,
Has anyone come across SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU8/9 failing to install with a “Failed to retrieve data for this request.” error.
The error is too generic for a useful search on web, for me at least anyway.
Had no problems patching a whole bunch of other servers in the same environment.
I’m no good at reading these error logs. For some reason the primary replica is referenced in the detailed log???
The CU8/9 patch has been run by both Domain Admins and local Admin with no luck.
We are trying to patch a secondary failover replica. (SharePoint 2013 is installed on this server.)

IMO I strongly feel it is issue with the account. Microsoft has also documented about this for SQL Server 2008 .Have a look at following links

Unable to install SQL Server Express 2008 R2 - Errors "Failed to retrieve data for this request"
As domain admin I am attempting to install "SQL Server 2008 R2 with SP2" but it keeps failing with "Failed to retrieve data for this request".

Above message says that your registry is not consistent and some of the parameters are missing from registry.Or
Account installing SQL server does not have permission to access this. I think case can be here that account with which you logged into your system to install SQL Server might not have certain privileges. Can you take help
of domain admin account add it as a local administrator in this machine always right click on setup file and select run as administrator. Before this make sure you remove all SQL Server components from add remove program

I'm running a report with dynamic parameters and this report ran successfully for 2 days . For no apparent reason they stopped and the error message was received. There was no interference from head office soI'm at a loss to explain why the viewer / reports suddenly stopped working.

If you have report published to BOEnterprise, then it automatically creates a chain of objects for any dynamic parameter:
Data Connection,
Data Foundation,
Business View,
Business Element
and LOV.
Each of this objects have configurations like users rights, permissions and some have logon configuration. Failing any of those elements may cause LOV to fail.
One of the tests you may try is to test relevant Business View by connecting Crystal reports to it.

I've been getting this error on my Windows 8.1 Pro when I run EMET GUI. I think it's related to when I changed the apps configuration.
I tried uninstalling/reinstalling and I get "Could not create EMET default configuration. Please run this program as an Administrator" even though I am running it as Administrator.

Try this workaround, this connection will not be affected if you relocate the cube in BW side and also you can use any cube / data mart to access data from BW.
Create a new secured OLAP Connection with SAP BICS Client under the SAP Netweaver BI 7.X option by providing credentials. Select "Do not specify a cube in the connection" and click finish then publish it to the BO Repository.
Open the WEBI Report, select the Bex Query as Data source which you want to access, now you can able to retrieve the data from the desired BW Cube via BEX Query.
Check the User Rights and Role imported into BOE Repository.

Explorer error "Failed to retrieve the Information Spaces list." from HANA
I am getting this dumb error "Failed to retrieve the Information Spaces list. // Request timed out" in Explorer's "Manage Spaces" area every time I click on the analytic view listed under my HANA sources of the Explorer. So, my HANA source is visible, and analytic views are visible in Explorer as well, but I cannot get any Information Space created because of the error, and I could not find the error and its causes in Explorer docs.

- upgraded HANA db to Rev 18 (for some reasons I cannot u[grade this system to SPS3 yet) and BIP and Explorer 4.0 are on the latest Patch 8 of SP2.
- configured connection using IDT defined connection,
- restarted servers in CMS already 100s of times.
There is enough free space on the BO server's drive: 33GB. BO is a single server based on Win2008 R2 SP1 with 40GB RAM.
Any ideas what else I can do to get rid of this issue? It is a test server, so I cannot open customer msg to SAP Support.

When I try to start the SQl server service i get the following error:

Could not open error log file ''. Operating system error = 5(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105).
As a test I have made sure the errorlog file ,and the entire drive it is, has everyone full control permissions, but to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas to resolve this issue?

Then verify that the account being used to run the SQL Server service account has access to the path output above. If possible, you could try logging onto the server with the same account used to run SQL Server then navigate to the errorlog folder.

Failed to retrieve data from the database Error
I had some reports setup in Crystal XI based on a Sql server but recently we had an upgrade, the database has been moved to IBM Informix.
There is a certain table that seems to be causing the problem.
The error:
"Failed to retrieve data from the database
Details: 42000:[informix][informix ODBC Driver][informix]A syntax error has occured .[Database Vendor Code:-201]".
I run the same query in MS Access and it seems to run fine.
I even tried to do a simple dump of the table onto Crystal but no luck.
Any help is appreciated.

It seems your ODBC Driver is not compatible, try to download a driver which supports Informix through CR XI. I think you may have to download Data Direct Drivers 5.1 version to access Informix data tables through CR XI.

Crystal Reports 2008 - C-ISAM/ODBC Error 42000 Failed to retrieve data
I'm hoping someone out there has a solution to this problem.
I have a bunch of reports which I've converted from CR8.5 to CR2008 (SP2 + HotFixPack 2.7 Installed)
Our server is currently running SCO UNIX OpenServer 5.0.7 with a C-ISAM Database serving our accounting software.
Some of the more basic reports have converted with no problem (daily sales figures etc...), but some reports such as customised purchase orders, and complex sales histories etc... continue to have this problem.
Note, all my reports functioned perfectly under CR8.5.
This error occurs within seconds of executing the report.
FAILED TO RETRIEVE DATA FROM THE DATABASE
Details: 42000:ERROR Syntax Error - Database Vendor Code: -1
After which, the winsock comms need to be reset.
One example SQL query is as follows (on a report re-designing my purchase order for imported products.

If you open the Report and then click on DataBase, Log on and connect first. Then open your report, then Database, Set Location and once it's done then Verify the Database. Fix any errors or warnings that may pop up.
Lots of changes between 8.5 and 2008. CR detects that the report is the old format and it then goes through an series of internal report upgrade routines to convert all functions to the current format.
Also, all of the database drivers were re-written to take advantage of the updated functionality and Client enhancements. As well as we removed any "custom hacks" that we did back then to fix "issues" int he DB client drivers at the time. All of those "fixes" were removed, to much work to maintain them all, now if there are issues it's usually due to the DB Client not following ANSII 92 Standards.
One issue that does show up from time to time is that the order you inserted the tables can have an affect on how CR generates the SQL, may not be the case for your issue though, just something to watch for.
What happens if you create a new report and use that same SQL, save it, close all, re-open the report and run it. Do you get the same errors?
Also note: you did not say if you also updated the ODBC driver? As of CR 9 we are UNICODE compliant, may be your client needs to be updated also. Also verify it's using ODBC 3 and not ODBC 2 standards.

The report uses SQLOLEDB (ADO) and integrated authentication - it runs fine on the development machine.
I found very little info on this error on the web (google) - so I hope someone here has an idea.You need to make sure that those systems can get conneted to the database that is supposed to return data. To check that create a udl in clients machine.
Also do not change the schema of he report. -

I have a fairly simple report that correctly retrieves the data from the database providing that there are no selection formula.
However, as soon as I add the record selection formula:
{fireService.serviceDate} >= DateTime (2009, 10, 3, 0 ,0 ,0)
I get the following errors:

Cannot determine the queries necessary to get data for this report. Details: An invalid range operator has been encountered.
However, when I use the Database / Show SQL Query option and copy the query directly into the sql query analyser it works perfectly.
Any ideas?I am using a table to select the records from.
In fact it is a series of joined tables.
The SQL Query generated is:

In the mean time I already figured out that I need to use ViewModeType.REPORT_PAGE as you sugested.
Problem we are having now is that PDF rendering takes at best 6 seconds on pageserver.exe to render report. But if we render it on CR Developer, it renders imediately.
Report is referencing stored procedure on oracle. -
Error "failed to retrieve data set (ds1) for spry:repeat" in IE when using filters
Everything works fine in Firefox, but in IE7 I get an error
message saying "Failed to retrieve data set (ds1) for spry:repeat."
It seems to be my filter set that's causing this. Once I commented
out the chunk of code that handles filtering, the page finally
loaded. How can I get it to work in IE?

Please note that any query that generates multiple SQL statements is not supported in the Query Panel in Crystal Reports.
I guess this Universe is generating multiple SQLs and hence the error.
I found this option while I was searching for something else: Could you try turning off the "Multiple SQL statement for each measure" in the Universe parameters and see if it works?
