I have run this patch in March - upgraded to 9.2.0.8. So the software is already there.
We clone DEV (and TEST) every month - and each time we clone, v$version shows 9.2.0.8 - but dba_registry shows all components at 9.2.0.5 (which is I believe is normal since the system files are also cloned
Do I have to re-install the 9.2.0.8 binaries again (which is what I am trying to do now) or just run the catupgrd after opening the DB in strartup migrate mode?
    Please help.

For security reasons some admin put restrictions on the /tmp directory (for a good reason). You can change the default setting of the tmp directory used during installation by setting the environment variables TMP and TEMP to a different directory. Don't forget to set BOTH!!! variables.

    Hi,
    you try following steps:--
    (1) create oracle user with oinstall and dba group.
    (2) chown -R oracle:oinstall /install directory(like /diask1/app/oaradata/1020).
    (3)chmod 775 /disk1/app/oradata/1020.
    (4)chown -R oracle:dba /disk1/app/oradata/1020.
    (5)chmod 775 /disk1/app/oradata/1020
    (6) watch carefully the oracle check at the time of initial install.
If anything is failed due to gcc packeage or because of some other reason then you have to rectify first.
you also need to configure /etc/sysctl.conf for kernel parameter in which you have to define shmmax size half of the ram.
you also need to run xhost + from root and then start installation once u r done with the configuration.
    Regards,
    MK

help me to install oracle on linux (RH9) without any error.

Probably Oracle 10g (although you don't specify)
Putting Oracle9i and 10g on Red Hat 9 will require a LOT of tender loving care by someone who understands distributions, kernels, gcc and glibc. From the sounds of it, you are not current on Linux maintenance so I suggest you consider upgrading to a newer Linux - Fedora 6 or 7 are the replacement for RH9 and CentOS and Oracle Enterprise Linux are easier to use with Oracle.
But - in answer to your question: what happend when you
    cd /tmp
    df -k .
    ls -ld /tmp

Your error has been completely addressed here http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.html. This is very informative. You may want to check this out before proceeding. The straight solution to this is when this error shows up, leave it open, find the native_threads/java file from the CD to the directory Oracle is asking for this. I had this problem and it turned out when I extracted and burnt it to a CD, it didn't copy the native_threads directory and others, so you want to check this as well.

  • Oracle 9i install error in writing to temp file

    Could someone please help?
I'm trying to install the Oracle 9i client (v.9.2) on windows xp, but getting this error:
"Error in writing to directory C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall2005-09-15-xxxxxxx". Please ensure that this directory is writable and has atleast 32 MB of disk space. Installation cannot continue.
I deleted the install on the temp folder, there is more than enough space to write (over 20gb free hd space). I'm lost on how to fix it, and have wasted far too much time trying to get it to work. Please help!!!

You could set TEMP and TMP temporarily in a DOS box :
    set TEMP=<temp_directory>
    sert TMP=<temp_directory>
Then start setup.exe out of this DOS box.
Unfortunately there are reported many possible reasons for this error, including bugs.
