Error installing Acrobat v8

I have Acrobat v5 on my 8-year old laptop. I started to have difficulty reading the latest pdf files. But because of its age, I didn't try to put the latest Acrobat v10 on it. Instead I tried v8 with an installer downloaded couple of years ago. But when I install it, I got an error message when the installer access the "C:\Documents & Settings\my name\Local Settings\Temp\Adobe Reader 8.0\setup.exe". The message said "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I am using an administrator account "my name" when installing. And I have checked the folder's authority that "my name" has full control. Looks like to me it is a Windows problem, but I don't know how to fix it. Please help.

Sometimes in the past you had to be logged in as the "administrator," not just an admin account. That may be the issue. Also be sure anti-virus is disabled for the install. You did not mention your OS. I assume you have at least XP.

  • Error installing Acrobat 9 Prof on Win7  64-bit

I bought a new HP laptop and loaded the other components of Creative Suite 4 Design Premium (Win 7  64 bit) with no issues.
I then tried to install Acrobat 9 Professional (several times) and keep getting error messages saying that one or more components dd not load correctly.
My antivirus was turned off and I rebooted after the first failed attempt. The 2nd attempt had the same results.
I've seen others with the same issue while trying to load Acrobat 9 Prof.
What is the "fix" to get this on my new laptop?
    Thanks

Bill@VT I believe you are referring to the need for the CS applications to provide their licensing information so that Acrobat can be licensed as well.  This needs to occur before Acrobat is launched for the first time but does not affect the install order.
Mike Sz01 were the remaining applications for CS4 able to be installed successfully?  You can review the installation logs for error messages by following the steps listed in Troubleshoot installation with install logs | CS3, CS4 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-installation-install-logs-cs3.html.

    Hi ivank25654647,
I have checked the serial number you have provided and it looks like a Volume Serial number to me. There are mainly two reasons why this error might pop up :
    1) You are using the installer for a Retail product and using the volume serial number as that combination do not work.
    2) You have a stand alone installer for Acrobat and not a suite installer.
I would request you to kindly navigate back to the licensing website and go to Licenses>Downloads and search for the download link for the Creative Suite 5 and then download Acrobat again. This should resolve the concern that you have.

  • Script Error Installing Acrobat Reader

I'm trying to install the latest Acrobat Reader.  I run the 977kb install_reader10_en_mssd_aih.exe.  It completes the download, with progress at 66%, when a script error occurs.
The message is "An error has occurred in the script on this page.".  Line: 1, Char: 10091, Error: 'ActionLaunchReader' is undefined, Code: 0, URL: http://127.0.0.1:1178/app/_js/adobe.js
What's happening?  This seems to me to be a problem with a script at Adobe.com.  Is Adobe already working on it?
    Thank you.

Many thanks, Claudio. I was having a similar problem trying to download the newer Adobe Acrobat 11 using Firefox 17.0 on a Win XP Pro with SP 3. I kept getting a similar script error message; so I followed the link you gave. I was able to download Acrobat 11 with no problems. You earned a gold star, my friend.

What operating system? You may have an issue with the system. Also, the drive should be a local drive. Also check http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/install-error-1327-invalid-drive.html.

  • Error installing Acrobat Reader in Debian SID

    Hello,
The postinst script of the .deb package for Acroread 9.1 in my Debian SID gives the following error:
    $ LC_ALL=C sudo dpkg -a --configure
    Setting up adobereader-enu (9.1.0) ...
    dpkg: error processing adobereader-enu (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    adobereader-enu
However, acroread was installed and is working fine.
The error message don't gives any clue to fix the problem. Any ideas?

    Hi,
    Thanks for reporting this.
We've been trying to reproduce the problem but have been unsuccessful so far.
Could you please do the following:
    1. Edit the /var/lib/dpkg/info/adobereader-enu.postinst file and put a 'set -x' before the Which () function.
    2. Now run the "LC_ALL=C sudo dpkg -a --configure >output.log 2>&1".
This will generate a file named output.log. Please email the contents of that file to varunk at adobe dot com.
    Thanks again,
    -Varun

  • Error when installing Acrobat 11 Pro under Mac OS 10.8.3

When trying to install Acrobat 11 Pro on my iMac (2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, OS 10.8.3) I get an error message saying "installation failed" during the "validating packages" process. The software seems to run o.k., but I'm unable to apply any updates. Any suggestions?

To investigate problem at our end, we require following logs:
    1) /private/var/log/install.log
    2) /tmp/oobelib.log
    3) /tmp/amt3.log
    4) ~/Library/Logs/PDApp.log
(It might be that out of 2,3 and 4 a few are not present. Ignore those not present on the system)
