Error installing Mountain Lion on 13" MBP (late 2011)
It was preloaded with Lion before this. My MBP started to slow down so I decided to upgrade to Mountain Lion to see if there is any improvement, but unfortunately its stuck on the installation phase. I've been repeatedly downloading the Mountain Lion software but never passed the installation phase. It always stuck at the how many more minutes remaining for installing part. Sometimes it'll show "-45 minutes remaining" and keep counting negatively. Sometimes it just says please contact the software provider (or something i can't remember). Can anybody help be with this? I've tried verifying and repairing the disk using the disk utility but nothing seems to be helping.
this is the installer log. hope i'll hear good news from u after this. btw, is it possible to create a 2nd partition, install mountain lion on that partition, and use that partition to access the original partition to retrieve my old files?

After installing Mountain Lion on my MBP Retina, the WiFi connection drops frequently (not happening to other devices around, like on an iPhone); it also takes a lot to reconnect after wake up. Does anybody have a solution for this?

Cannot Do Fresh Install Mountain Lion on My MBP
Hello everyone!
I just wanted to do fresh install on my MBP.
It had OS X 10.8.3 before. And then I wanted to do fresh install using USB bootable Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
But when I reboot from USB, there's an error like this: "There was a problem installing "Mac OS X"."
What should I do? I'm really confused.
I use MBP late 2011 actually.Boot up holding command-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
The screen should give you these choices...

I have experience most then 20 times since i install mountain lion, can someone tell me what's wrong ?
Cheers!!You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. You might be able to resolve the problem by reinstalling OS X. Try that first, if you haven't done so already. Otherwise, you may be covered by this program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saver preference pane, but that's not a solution.
Most likely, the logic board will be replaced. Sometimes the replacement is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. -
Installing Mountain Lion on MBP is not a wise move?
Hello everyone,
I installed mountain lion on my MBP 2010 only to found that typing response and track pad response is notable sluggish. If i left my trackpad not active for 5 seconds, it takes something like 3 secs to response to my finger tapping. The typing is seems lagging for 2 secs post punching any button. If anyone found the solutions to problems above, please share with me. At some point i felt lost faith to Mac. The dismise of late Steve Job definitely affect performance of mac inc. Truely, regretted for being loyal to Mac. I guess time to change to new product. From samsung perhaps? Why is my computer slow?

Microsoft Word Intermittently Crashing After Installing Mountain Lion
After installing Mountain Lion (10.8), Microsoft Word 2011 (v 14.2.3, currently the latest update) is intermittently crashing. This is not the error I have seen reported elsewhere where Word crashses on start up. Rather, it starts fine, runs for a while, then suddently freezes and gives an error message. Unfortunately I do not remember the full error message, but it stated something like "Microsoft Office cannot write to the hard drive..." I was prevously running Microsoft Office 2011 and had no problems until upgrading to Mountain Lion.
So far I tried repaired disk permissions, both via the disk utility application and by restarting while holding down the option key to boot into disk utility directly. This did not solve the problem.
I also checked the activity monitor, because after crashing the computer starts running very hot. The activity monitor shows a process called "mtmd", which is using 50-80% of the CPU. This activity seems to persist until the computer is restarted again.
I also checked fonts in Font Book, but there appear to be no duplicate fonts, which I thought might cause a problem in Word.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Hi there,
I've been getting the same error message for teh last few days. Word and Mountain Lion seemed to be playing well together until the last MS update (now running Word 2011 14.2.3). Fans go into overdrive and always a reboot required. Additionally, my DOCX is gone from where it was saved and in place only a word.tmp file remains. Sometimes I can open the temp file and recover all of the data but sometimes not. Luckily Time Machine has saved me on both occasions when the tmp file wouldn't open.
Excel and Powerpoint are currently running very smoothly (in fact I dare say better than previously).
I've tried running the DOCX from local drives and two external drives all with the identical results. However, after this occurring for the nth time I noticed that it seems to occur when Time Machine kicks in. I'm presently testing it with Time Machine turned off and all seems ok. Though it does kind of defeat the purpose! -
After installing Mountain Lion, iMessages and Facetime does not work. When I try to sign-in I get a message that says: The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later. After 4 calls to apple and 8 and a half hours on the phone. The apple people does not how to solve the problem. The last thing they told me is that they will send the problem to their engineers and I will hear from them. unfortunately they have not contact me.
During the phone calls I tried putting the date and time in automatic, changing the username and password, I even tried using somebody elses username and password. Please help, facetime is my tool to telecomute, and it is hurting my job.I had the same problem and found the solution here:

HELP... Since last week, I can not awake from sleep. After reading a review I downloaded Deep Sleep, but after the first deep sleep, my MBP (late 2011 with Mountain Lion), developed a problem restarting from sleep. I straight away uninstalled Deep Sleep, but the problem has increased.
Now when I try to awake from sleep, a grey screen with the apple logo appears with a progress bar underneath it, which slowly moves to the forelast indicator, then it stops and a audio signal starts. Three bleeps and pause.
Then when I press the on/off botton and restart the system, the underneath error reports appears with the heading RAPPORTD unexpectedly failed.
Can any one help?

Ive just upgraded my late 2009 macbook, and things are not working properly. First of all, when I started the computer first time after installing Mountain Lion, some message advised me that some files were impossible to install. Once I wrote my password, and for now on, everytime I start the session, another window advise me that "Java SE 6" is missing, due that, the computer can't run some "CS5Service Manager". If I try to install it, the download ends with an error. If finally, you skip the istallation, you arrive to the dock, but the menu bar at the top of the screen doesn't show up.
In addition, my trackpad doesn't works either. I can move the arrow but i can't click anywhere, probably because the option of clicking by touching is disabeled and I can't performance a regular click.
I'll be very glad if someone know what the heck is happening with my computer. Anyway, I'm going to the genius bar next Saturday. Thx!We're sorry.

After installing Mountain Lion on my 17" MBP G-RAID mini connected via Tempo SATA Edge ExpressCard34 is no longer recognized. I restored icon and access by removing 34 card and substituting FW800 for eSATA. Any fix for the higher speed connection? TIA
Looks like the Silicon Image drivers were moved to the incompatible software folder during install/upgrade.
Downloaded latest drivers, errored out of install claiming that the drivers were from an unknown author!!!
Emailed their tech support this evening describing problem. -
Error when trying to install Mountain Lion - says hard disk is damaged :(
I downloaded and installed Mountain Lion on my iMac today - without any problems. But when I downloaded it to my Macbook pro (bought 2010) I get an error message telling me the installation cannot continue due to hard disk error My harddisk was fine before the installation, to my knowledge ...
Of course I tried disk utility (during the installation) and it tells me the disk needs to be repaired but I can´t choose "Repair disk" since it is grey (no write permissions it says). What can I do? I really need help!!!I rarely post, however, because of a major screw up with Mountain Lion, I will. I have been using mac computers since 1987, have obviously installed and upgraded multiple OS new and upgrades and never, I mean never had a problem with any of them, until now. The install stalled with the message that the hard disk needed repair. I thought all of my data was lost, except for time machine backup, which was not as current as it should have been. Losing that data would have been a royal pain.
Went through the restore OS from Time Machine, then tried to repair the disk with apple disk repair utility. Not repairable. Why? I still don't have a clue. After reading multiple threads, decided to go ahead and buy DiskWarrior. This was a weird experienc. Loaded it onto external hard drive, hooked my MacBook Pro as Target disk. Loaded in DiskWarrior as hardware probelm. ???? Immediately went online to see what advice about this message. Looked like a massive coincidence had hit my laptop. Worked perfectly until loading Mountain Lion, the decided to have hard disk melt down. Suddenly, DiskWarrior indicated it was ready to rebuild my directory. The hardware warning was gone. A few minutes later, directory repaired. Rebooted, same problem. Can't load OS X, need to repair hard disk. Apple disk repair still unable to repair disk. Used DiskWarrior, repaired it no problem.
Deleted original OS 10.8 dmg. Rebooted and downloaded fresh copy of OS 10.8. This time install went flawlessly. Mountain Lion transferred all info flawlessly. Mid 2009 MacBook Pro running flawlessly and actually more smoothly now than in Lion.
1. I think original download was somehow corrupted and that is what screwed up the disk directory.
2. I do not know why apple Disk Utility would not repair the disk and Disk Warrior would. Expensive fix, but ultimately worthwhile. Did it mysefl and did not have to mess with "Genius" bar.
3. I will never go so long without backup again. That was a big mistake.
My advice:
1. Be sure you have smooth download of entire Mountain Lion file, if not, start over. My download was paused a couple of times.
2. If the install is messed up and you need Disk Repair, buy DiskWarrior and repair directory, it works flawlessly. If it initially says your disk has hardware problem, wait a few minutes while it finishes entire evaluation. It may well disappear like mine did, then actually repair the directories without a problem.
3. Be sure you have deleted old OS 10.8 Install file and load fresh one.
4. Install OS 10.8 and you should be OK.
5. Good luck.
Mountain Lion seems to have some problems, but many of them may be due to server overload at apple, delayed download with incorporated unrecognized code problems. If there is any delay, start over and get a smooth download.
Disk Utility is too light weight. Apple needs to beef it up. This is my biggest complaint. Apple utility should be able to fix disks. We should not have to spend $100 to fix a disk, but there you are.
Once fixed however, back to usual beautiful, flawless apple experience. -

Unable to install mountain lion...disk error??
Guys..is there any way to skip this mountain lion installation? i dont understand why i got
this disk error message when i tried to upgrade in Mountain Lion even though my MBP 2011 LION is OK.
I need your expertise here..Please!! Thank you!! :(Just quit the installer - you should be able to do that. There should be a file still in your Applications folder named "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app". Just leave it alone for a moment. Then download Lion DiskMaker and make a bootable USB install flash drive and/or DVD.
Then start up using your Recovery partition (Command and R keys held down on boot) and select Disk Utility and verify and, if need, repair your disk. Reboot and try installing Mountain Lion using your USB installer. Everything should work fine - unless there are errors found on your disk that can't be repaired.
Good luck,

Just clean installed Mountain Lion but MBP running extremely, extremely slow
Four days ago I opened up my MBP to find it running at a snail's pace. The change had happened overnight. Five days ago it was blazing fast, the next day every application took 20 minutes to start up, the rainbow circle would appear every time I would do the simplest of tasks; it was a nightmare.
First, I thought there was some sort of malware infecting my system, so I scanned the computer with Sophos, iAntivirus and ClamXav. This process took the better part of a day because everything was so slow. The results were all clear. Next, I decided to repair permissions, empty the cache, and use CCleaner. No improvement.
Then, I felt there was a problem with the OS I was running; Lion. So I decided to get Mountain Lion. I took the install DMG file and used Lion Diskmaker to create a USB install disk. I then booted with 'Option', erased Macintosh HD, and installed Mountain Lion. Installation was without any problems, except for the fact that it was quite slow and the Welcome steps also took a very long time to complete, with the rainbow circle constantly appearing.
This now leads me to believe that there might be some sort of hardware issue. If this is so, or if you suspect any other sort of issue, how would I go about identifying and fixing it? Please help, because even typing this problem out has taken me a long time due to the MBP constantly getting stuck and slow-ey.
P.S. I've also noticed that the longer I keep an application running, the smoother it seems to run, but the difference is very small.

On the memory slot page, both 2 GB memory slots are said to be in use, so i don't think any memory has been dislodged...

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

I recently attempted to re-install Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro late 2012 model and the internet recovery is failing. I have absolutely no clue what to do here. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
- Currently if I boot it up there is a flashing folder icon with a question mark in it. I am assuming this means there is no OS because I wiped the SSD and tried to reinstall Mountain Lion
- When I hold Command+R, it prompts me to Choose Network... the problem with this is the wifi constantly is disconnecting. The Retina 2012 does not have an ethernet port so i have considered buying the attachment then returning when done.
Once again Thank you in advance.
Best. There is nothing to do if you don't have a reliable Internet connection unless you have a copy of the Mountain Lion installer application from when you first installed it.
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
