Error installing or removing Itunes after trying to upgrade to 7.6

Hi There,
I recently tried to upgrade to 7.6 from 7.5 and this has caused me some issues.
Firstly when upgrading a dialog box opens stating that itunes.msi cannot be found in local settings - however it was there. I manually moved to the path still to no avail.
I followed all steps to remove itunes and do a clean install - as stated in the support site "how to uninstall section". This failed at the add remove stage. Stating "The older version of itunes cannot be removed. Please contact your technical support group".
As there was no add remove option I removed all references to itunes in my local settings folder, program files and registry and went to reinstall, however I am still getting the same message above when tryin to install.
Now I am stuck with no version of itunes at all on my PC. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.
Do Apple have a default "scrubber" that will remove all reference/instances of itunes?
Many Thanks,
Martin

I'm having the same exact problem! The only diffrerence is that I haven't unistalled my current version and it still works. But I REALLY want those new iPod Touch Apps! But they require 7.6! Why is it when ever Apple does something great for us they some how find a way to screw us at the same time.
I don't want a scrubber however cause that migth wipe my settings and or library. Instead I want a magic file that fixes what ever apple screwed up and intalls 7.6!
....Or I suppose a copy of iTunes.msi for my version would do to....
My iTunes version is 7.4.3.1

  • Unable to install or remove iTunes

I ran a computer cleaning program a while back. Since then I am UNABLE to install itunes or it's updates.
I keep getting this error "Unable to find C:\Users\Neil\AppData\Local\Apple\Apple Software Update\itunes.msi"
How can I fix this please? Anybody? Help?
I have now removed my old iTunes and am unable to install the new version.
I have this problem on BOTH of my computers now. So I am dead in the water right now.
    Thank you,
    Neil

I have tried like **** to fix this problem. To No avail. I have 11.1.1.5 installed.
Every time I try install the update 11.2 it gives me the network resource error message.
I have tried uninstalling itunes, I've used the microsoft uninstall fix program. Nothing works.
Luckily I have a drive image of my starting point. I can get to a point when everything is uninstalled, but then I get a bunch of errors after installing iTunes like can't find starting point dll's and windows 127 errors. "Please reinstall iTunes."
Trying to install the new version from iTunes either by updating or by manually downloading results in the network resource error trying to find the old version. And trying to remove all remnants of the old version by uninstalling and using Microsoft Uninstall fix resluts in errors after reinstall.
This is totally frustrating. There HAS to be a way to clean this program mess up and get it working, but I am at a total loss.
    Please! Any Ideas?!
    Thanks,
    Neil

What OS is on the Install/Restore DVD that came wit your G5? If Tiger 10.4.x, you will need a black, retail Leopard install DVD. There is no free download of Leopard, only free updates once you have installed the base OS.
First use your Mac's Install/Restore DVD to install an OS & apps. Then upgrade the OS.
Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store *but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753)*.

You will need to Upgrade to Snow Leopard to get a Compatible version of iTunes to Sync your Device.
    Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...

If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...

Only if y can get the iPod out of recovery mode with the program. Otherwise you will have to restore via iTunes which erases the iPod.

  • After a notice of update, I was unable to use iTunes. It said I had a missing dll file and a Windows error 7. I removed iTunes and tried to reinstall. I selected the download items off the apple site. It says thank you but still not there.

Having problems downloading iTunes. After an update notice, I was unable to open iTunes. I de-installed and attempted to reinstall it and it still won't open.
The first error duirn the update was a dll file missing, then a Windows error 7. The screen on the Apple site say  Thank you for downloading, but still not there.

A msi file is short for microsoft installer.  It normally is for installation, removal, and maintenance for a program. So iTunes.msi would be used for the updating of the program.  For some reason it isnt finding this so we can't update, install, or remove it.
From what I have seen windows installer cleanup utility solved related problems before.
I found this forum about removing and installing a new iTunes.  It was about someone who was trying to isntall iTunes, and was looking for msi file and asked for help.   Using this should allow you to be able to install iTunes.  It won't give you the msi file but will allow you to isntall iTunes over again.
    This was what was said.
Another option in case you can't get an msi. (Or even if you can ... the msi's mentioned in the messages may be damaged rather than missing.)
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
