The summary. I really need help with this as it is for college work and need InDesign to complete the work I was given.

How about downloading it from Microsoft?
You could also run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3), then try the installation again, but there is no guarantee it will behave differently.

There can be many possible reasons for this Error.
Could be a possibility Microsoft_v80_CRX .msi is not getting installed or due to Error 1612

Error installing trials of photoshop and illustrator CC

When trying to install Photoshop and Illustrator trials I get the error message 'Error writing to temporary file location' the error code is (-70)
I am running windows 8.1

Since it is discussing a failure to write to the temp file location then it would occur your current User account does not have sufficient permissions to write to this directory. Please try creating a new administrator account and seeing if you face the same difficulty. Looks as if you have your home folder on VMWare mapped back to the host OS drive, and that's triggering the initial failure in the log you posted. There's a faulty assumption in our installer's home folder logic that you've encountered, where it thinks your home folder is one level above your Documents folder, though we know that's not always true.
Here's a workaround you could try:
- Back up your Documents folder for safe keeping (\\vmware-host\Shared Folders\Documents)
- create a new folder tree named \\vmware-host\Shared Folders\home\Documents. The folder in the middle doesn't need to be named "home", you can call it anything you want, but there needs to be a new folder in the middle. Make sure you have write access to that home folder, as well as to its Documents subfolder.
- in VMWare Windows, reconfigure your User settings, moving your "My Documents" location down to the one created below \home\.
That last step varies a little, depending on which version of Windows you're running. On Win7 you can do it this way:
- in your user home folder (\Users\yourUserName) locate the My Documents icon, and right-click it
- choose Properties
- in the "Location" tab, click Move, and then choose the \\vmware-host\Shared Folders\home\Documents fodler you created earlier on your VMWare host
On Vista, you can right-click the Documents icon in your Start Menu, choose Properties, and from there on it's about the same as on Win7.
On WinXP it looks slightly different:
- right-click your My Documents icon (often on the desktop for convenience), and select Properties
- the tab you want is named "Target" on WinXP, and then you can click Move to relocate it to the same location described earlier.
After moving your Documents location this way, I would reboot first, and then make sure any old copies of FB4 are completely removed before re-installing. I just tested this out on my own VMWare machine (Vista), and it worked here, so with any luck it will work there too.

Can't even open new (trial) install of indesign CS4

Installed trial version of InDesign CS4 on 2.4 GHz MacBook Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.0 GB RAM, 250 GB hard drive, running OS 10.5.6. This machine is less than a month old. No other non-system software installed besides OpenOffice. Can get through registration screen and into "Open a Recent/Create New" screen. Won't go anywhere past that. If opening a new document, blank doc appears but if I click ANYwhere (doc, menus, toolbars, etc.) or try any keyboard commands, the beachball of death appears and that's the end. Opening existing indd doc, won't even get that far. I have NEVER been able to get past that point. I have tried every suggestion made to this forum: repairing permissions, clearing caches (system, local, and indesign), resetting preferences, creating a new user, reinstalling indesign, etc. NOTHING WORKS. this is p1ssing me off to no end. what can i do? and DON'T tell me to buy the full version -- why would we spend the money on software that doesn't work (except to get cr@ppy adobe "support")?

You have ID also looking at/loading fonts and profiles. You might want to do some elimination there.

Adobe has been using confusing version names for at least five years.
There are now two versions labeled CC, version 9 and version 10 (also known as CC 2014). Version 10 is the latest, and if you attempt to open a version 10 file in Version 9 that is not fully patched you will get an error message telling you that the file cannot be opened. The latest patch for version 9 should use a cloud-based service at Adobe to convert version 10 files to IDML and allow you to open that.
I suspect you may be using an older operating system. Version 10 requires that your system runs at least OS X 10.7 or Windows 7 SP1 and if you are not it will not even be offered to you.

Trouble with trial Indesign

I am trying to download the trial Indesign CS6, and it wont open the program once it has been downloaded. I currently have CS2 on my computer...do I need to uninstall my CS2 before Indesign CS6 will work?

Shan_Ry do you receive a specific error message when you try to install InDesign CS6? Which operating system are you using? Finally Creative Suite 2 should not interfer with installing InDesign CS6.
