ERROR ITMS-3000 File Name Invalid

I am trying to publish a textbook I have created for a class and I keep getting errors every time I try to deliever it. This is what I keep getting.
Does anyone know what this means?  I've gone through the book I made and made sure all the images I am using do not have any spaces or symbols in the title.  I've run out of ideas as to what to do next.  Hopefully someone out there can help me.

Did you study the links suggested on the right?

Found the solution. The hardrive name was changed to "/" which is not a recognised file path character. So I changed the name to "Mac" then I was able to already open all files in excel and word

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

• File name invalid/too long error

When I try to import folders purchased from eMusic into iTunes, I sometimes get a message: "Attempting to copy to the disk "C:\" failed. File name invalid or too long. Some of the tracks may transfer, but others may not. Can anything be done about this? Thanks for any suggestions.
Precision   Windows XP Pro

BUMP
Yes, I just get that message. I don't see how I could investigate this problem.
I didn't mention that this happened when I was consolidating my library, not copying files to another computer.
In other words, I'm using a "normal" itunes procedure, itunes won't complete it, and won't tell me exactly why or how to figure out how to fix it...
Is there at least some easy way to tell which files were successfully copied to my itunes music folder so I can work on moving the uncopied files?
Can anybody help me?

• ITunes Produce delivery error ERROR ITMS-3000

Hi everyone,
I am going crazy trying to publish an e-book on the iBookstore, and I hope I can get some help here.
First some background info:
I am intending to publish a small collection of short stories written in Pages '09 and converted to .epub in a writing tool named Scrivener (where I can have each short story as a separate chapter, which I wouldn't be able to do - I think - if I just converted straight to .epub in Pages), through iTunes Producer.
I have previewed the file many times (in many versions) on my iPad and it works perfectly.
However, when I intend to deliver via iTunes Produce - after filling in all of the required fields of course - I receive this error message upon delivery:
1 package(s) were not uploaded because they had problems:
              /Users/willustav/Music/iTunes Producer/Playlists/9789198015713.itmsp - Error Messages:
Apple's web service operation was not successful
Unable to authenticate the package: 9789198015713.itmsp
ERROR ITMS-3000: "Line 48 column 27: element "audience" missing required attribute "scheme" at XPath /package/book/metadata/audience_info/audience"
ERROR ITMS-3000: "Line 48 column 38: element "audience" incomplete; expected element "range" or "value" at XPath /package/book/metadata/audience_info/audience"
Now, I cannot for the love of God understand what it means. I have tried to tweak the .epub conversion settings to be as plain as possible (in Scrivener) and I just can't make any sense of the "help" from Apple support, which just says:
Why am I getting a delivery error in iTunes Producer?
Import errors can appear after a validated EPUB file and the required metadata have been delivered. An import error can be caused by the following:
Your EPUB contains files not listed in the manifest. This error is not generally caught by EPUBCheck. All files must be listed in the manifest, or there is no way to confirm that they are intended for distribution.
Your EPUB contains characters that are not UTF-8 or UTF-16. This is typically caused by including accented or other special characters in the EPUB. If they are not properly encoded, they will not appear as expected when the customer reads your book. iTunes Producer lists the exact files that have these issues in the delivery error report.
XHTML namespace is not properly declared in all HTML in your EPUB. This is a strict requirement for the EPUB standard. Check to ensure the proper namespace is declared in each HTML document. See the current spec at http://www.idpf.org/2007/ops/ops2.0/download/.
All date formats are not full and complete. There are strict requirements for dates listed in the EPUB OPF and NCX files. Check to see that they are complete and properly formatted.
Your filenames have spaces or encoded characters. If your EPUB has any spaces in filenames, be sure the spaces are properly encoded in the EPUB manifest by using "%20" in their place. Filenames may not contain periods (".") other than to separate the filename from its extension.
Note that even if your book package passes EPUBCheck, it might contain one or more of the errors above that prevent it from appearing in your iTunes Connect account.
There are no periods of spaces in the filenames.
The only thing I can think of is that the text is in swedish, and perhaps the letters "å, ä, ö" can cause difficulties? But I fail to see why or how, if it works and shows perfectly on my iPad upon preview.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I had the exact same problem but solved it. The solution lay in eliminating one unmanifested file within epub. In other words, I had listed a file in the opf manifest and also had it included in my folder as a jpg, but it was unused in the actual html file. This caused the epub to pass epub check but to fail apply validation.
Hope this helps,
Btr

• Has anyone been able to upload an ibooks file with audio only files (m4a) in it? I keep getting the following error message during the upload in iTunes Producer: ERROR ITMS-9000: "Files of type audio/x-m4a are not allowed outside of widgets.

Has anyone been able to upload an ibooks file with audio only files (m4a) in it? I keep getting the following error message during the upload in iTunes Producer: ERROR ITMS-9000: "Files of type audio/x-m4a are not allowed outside of widgets. then it names the file as an m4p file. Everything works beautifully on the iPad through Preview, and validates through iTunes Producer up until the attempted upload. If you've been able to accomplish this, please let me know how you prepared your audio files. Many thanks.

Hello Fellow iBook Authors!
Today I received the same error that you all have been discussing.  I tried selecting the DRM
and this did not work for me, though I'm glad it did for some.  Here's what I did as a work-around. . .
Since iBooks Author did not have a problem with Videos, I simply used one of my video programs, ScreenFlow to turn the audio into a video file m4v.  I added an image and extended the length or timing of the image to span the length of the audio file.  Then exported as an .mov.  I then opened QuickTime and opened the file and exported the file to iTunes.
You can use iMovie, Camtasia or any other progam that will allow you to export the audio as a movie file.  Does this make sense?  I hope this helps, at least in the short-term.

• I just found an error in the file name for my Camera Raw Cache file.  How do I correct it?

I just found an error in the file name for my camera raw cache file.  The error is in my username.  I don't know how to correct the error or if I should just leave it.  I'm not sure where my cache file is stored on my computer.  Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Since you are on a Mac if when you first set up your account you left out the i in Wilson nothing you do will change that. The REAL account name will always be alicewlson. Once an account is created you can't actually change the name of it. You can change the name that is displayed but not the REAL account name.
Simplest thing to do is stop worrying about it. Everything is as it should be, that is except Wilson being spelled without the i.

When I searched finder for "alicewlson" I found a long list of files like this:

I believe I made the error in my user name when I first got my computer a year ago. I then corrected it under my user name but not in my Lightroom files. I also looked for files with a .lrdata extension and didn't find any.

iBookstore Publisher Support send me a fast response email which included some helpful info:
Please make sure that all image files inside the ePub end with one of the following: ".tif", ".jpg", or ".png" and that the file itself matches the file extension type. To check if the image file matches the file extension type, please right click on the image then select "Get Info". Once the info tab appears, please make sure that the file extension type of the image file matches the "Kind" found under "General".
For further information regarding embedded images, please refer to the iBookstore Asset Guide, which is available for download in the Deliver Your Content module in iTunes Connect.
And they INCLUDED THE TRANSPORTER LOG (!), the log generated by iTunes Producer as it tries to upload a book. We were able to search for the Validation Error # within the log and find out which image Producer was trying to upload when it encountered an error. Turns out the problem was a corrupted screenshot jpeg.
Grateful!

I had done screen shots on the iPad and then emailed them to my Mac. I then worked to cut the black bar off the top, but some how Photoshop wasn't saving them correctly. I couldn't even reopen them in PS. So, I downloaded them again, went back in, saved them as .jpegs and then reuploaded.  That solved it.  It was quite bizarre.
Now trying to get the description listing right in the iBookstore.
I wrote the piece out, I thought in TextEdit.  Then pasted it into the box in iTunesProducer. When I was getting the error message above, it also was saying that there's a 4,000-character limit. So, I copied it into Pages and did a character count and saw 3,887.  I still had to cut about 500 chactacters out.  Support responded and said I was still very close to the limit, so I don't know what it was they were counting. My Pages counter said it was close to 3,300....
My problem now is that they have bullet points on lines with no text now.  They've fixed it from how it was first diplaying.  So, I'm trying to get that cleaned up.  It's their fault, but it looks like me, the publisher, is the one who is clueless......

• I successfully uploaded a book using iBook Author.  I need to make a correction. I keep getting this error message: ERROR ITMS-9000: "Files of type audio/x-m4a are not allowed outside of widgets: assets/media/chick02.m4p" at Book (MZItmspBookPackage)

I appreciate any help or assistance.  I have been trying to update one of my books for for the past few days with no success.  I really just need to change two letters. But since I was updating I thought I would make a couple more improvements.  I clicked disable portrait and made my pictures a little bigger to fit the whole page.  But now I keep getting this error for multiple sound effects throughout the book. ERROR ITMS-9000: "Files of type audio/x-m4a are not allowed outside of widgets: assets/media/chick02.m4p" at Book (MZItmspBookPackage).  I did not change the audio.  The audio files are placed in widgets.  I had no problem the first time it uploaded. I have recreated my whole book from scratch and it still does not work. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thank you for your attention to my question.

Could it matter that I am dragging my audio files onto my document?  They appear to be in a widget once dragged in. I use the widget insector to make changes. However,  I did not go to the top of the screen and click widget and then insert my audio file.
I don't believe that would make any difference. Drag-and-drop is just a UI shortcut for using the menu items.
Also some of the audio file were used in previous books.  Would that cause an error?
No. Each book is a stand-alone entity. It doesn't matter if the same audio file appears in another book.
From what people have reported here, it looks like there is a bug in the submission system. Other than trying the suggestions posted in the linked-to thread, I don't think there is anything you can do to fix it.
I would submit a bug report to Apple though. Quite a lot of people seem to be affected by this problem, and if they hear about the same problem from lots of different sources, that will (presumably) elevate the importance of fixing it.

• Consolidating Music Files into Itunes - File Name Invalid/Too Long!

When trying to consolidate music files into my library, I get an error message stating "Failed, The file name was invalid or too long." ????
I have tons of songs and don't know which file name is invalid or too long???

hiya!
hmmmm. we're looking for filenames here where the path and the filename has more than 256 characters in it. (at least i believe that's what the path-filename length limit is.)
possibly the easiest way to check for that is to use a spreadsheet like excel.
right-click your library in your itunes sourcelist, and select "export songlist ...". save it as a .txt file.
open the .txt file with Excel (or whatever spreadsheet application you have on the PC). the column with the path-filename in it is the one to the extreme right (you can delete the other columns and resize them to make looking for things a bit easier).
scroll through that looking for extremely long path-filenames.
can you track down some that seem to be above the length limit?

• "Copying Music Failed - File name invalid or too long."  HELP!

I desperately need to consolidate my music before my computer says goodbye for all eternity. It seems I can't consolidate my music because apparently, the file name is too long or invalid. I even got this program that was supposed to help me seek out the ones with too long file names. So I deleted those songs and it still won't work. And after I got the new iTunes the other day, I set it to add all new songs automatically into the iTunes Music Folder. However, it seems my iTunes is a little screwed up, because whenever I add a song with a long file name, it automatically shortens it down. For example if I add a song with the named "20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - Ooo, Baby Baby", which is obviously a very long name, it will shorten it down to about the first 4 or 5 words. I naturally shorten it down to just "Ooo, Baby Baby" myself, but I'm thinkin this whole error may have something to do with the fact that the library won't consolidate.
I'm in desperate need of help here - come to my rescue, please!

Well, aren't you lucky I signed in tonight? Sometimes you just have to be patient and wait until a person who might know an answer shows up.
I have had problems with Consolidate too, and getting that stupid error message when the file name was not too long.
The consolidate function starts copying things over by Date Added, with the older ones getting copied first. First in, first out.
What I finally had to do was look in Windows Explorer for the target (new) drive and see the last file that was successfully copied. Let's call it Carole King.
Then I went into iTunes and sorted by Date Added to see the file just AFTER the Carole King file. In my case, it was La Bohème and iTunes had filed it in the Compilations folder. I selected all the tracks and unchecked the Compilations box. This made iTunes move it out of the Compilations folder
The Consolidate worked after I moved that file.
