Error joining network - but other computers have no problem

I've been frustrated by one of three computers in my house having an issue joining my wireless access by Airport (via Westell VersaLink issued by dsl provider) .
My MacBook Pro won't connect to the network, telling me, after I enter the WEP password: << There was an error joining the network "X". >>
The other two computers I use at home, my wife's PC laptop and an old iMac, connect flawlessly with same password. The MacBook had connected fine previously. One day (6 months ago?) it just started with the issue and hasn't connected since.
The MacBook travels with me a lot and has no similar connectivity issues in other locations.
After I enter the correct password, it takes about ten seconds to report the error. If I enter the incorrect password, it tells me virtually instantly the same message as above.

Can you check the IP address of your Linux machine? Is it still in range with the other devices? Before you installed chromecast, have you assigned a static IP on your Linux server? Please do further checking with the settings of your Linux server. There are some reports that upon installing chromecast, some settings on *nix based machines are changed without any notification or interaction from the user.

  • Brand new MBP rarely detects Wifi network- 4 other devices have no problem

I am using a 4-week old MBP with Lion that was installed via the App Store immediately after purchase.
I read up on the Wifi issues with the MacBook Pro / Lion but mine seems a bit different.
Once I get connected to Wifi, the connection doesn't drop and is not weak, however, getting the connection is the problem. Airport detects my network off the bat only about 50 percent of the time. I live in a city with about 20 networks available at any given time. When I click on the airport icon, the same 4 networks (not mine) appear immediately every time. After waiting or re-clicking, if I'm lucky mine will show up in the list after about 20 to 30 seconds, but sometimes it doesn't show up at all. Restarting the router doesn't seem to help. Sometimes rebooting the computer does, and once in a while after a reboot my MBP will find the network immediately and auto-connect... when it does that the pages load at lightning speed and it works great until the next disconnect (when it sleeps).
Could this be my router just being too old for my MacBook Pro? My iPhone, iBook, PowerBook G4 and Asus laptop have no problems.
I've tried changing the broadcast channel on the router, deleting the plists frequently mentioned in these forums, deleting and re-adding the wireless connection (many many times), moving WLAN up to the top of the list in Network Prefs, updating router firmware, routing through my iPhone (no problem)...
Please help! Should I take it back to the store for an exchange? I bought it in the US and live in Germany... not sure I can even do that.

    System Preferences > Network > Airport/WiFi
Even if WiFI is at the top, use the gear below the list of Interfaces to choose "Set Service Order"  and put Airport/WiFi at the TOP. This will make a big difference.
    Click ( Advanced )
In the WiFi/Airport pane, be sure the Networks you most want to join are listed at the top of the list, and feel free to delete any you don't care to join automatically. Once you have a good list, check [√] Ask to join networks (rather than just joining them).
In the TCP/IP pane, set IPv4 to  DHCP and set IPv6 to OFF or Manually OFF.

  • TS1843 when at home, I cannot connect to aol from this computer.  other computers have no problem connecting to aol using the same wireless, I was also able to connect to aol while at the apple store using their wireless.  The problem seems specific to my

I cannot access aol from this computer.  all other wedsites are fine, other computers can access aol from same wireless, and I can access aol when using another wireless.
problem is specific to this computer, at home with aol only.

I should have explained further. The game opens in a new window over to the upper left of my screen, leaving the original page underneath. I tried minimizing it so that I could get to my toolbar and did the View > Zoom > Reset. This has no effect. The lower portion of the game is still not showing. Using other browsers the window or frame of the game is much larger, therefore everything shows.

  • MacBook Air can't connect to iMac network, but other computers can

This one has been driving me absolutely batty.
I have 4 computers on our network – a mini, iMac, Macbook, and Macbook Air. Screen and file sharing works great except everywhere except between the iMac and Air, which can't do anything with each other. They show up in each other's "Devices" list in the Finder, but trying to connect over any port, pinging, etc. doesn't work.
I've tried turning off the Firewall, changing IP addresses and dns settings, rebooting, turning off ipv6, creating new user profiles on both machines, and just about anything else I can think of. What am I missing
Thank you kindly for any help you can provide!

That's been one of the more difficult parts – no connections work over any protocols/ports that I've tried, whether via browsing or Connect to Server..., though something is working (UDP?) to allow both computers to see each other in the devices list in the Finder.
It happened just now. I was working on the Air and had mounted the iMac. It worked fine for about 15 minutes and then I suddenly got the pinwheel of death when trying to access the mounted iMac volume. Hanging, hanging, hanging, so I relaunched the Finder. Now I can't access the iMac at all (except, again, to see it in the devices list).
Here are seemingly related messages in the console (note that there is 1.2 TB unused on iMac and 11 GB unused on Air). It's showing some kind of file system error. Guess I'll run fsck and see what happens.

  • "Error joining network" with G4 DA

Just popped an Airport card into the PowerMac G4 Digital Audio I am "rehabbing." I have it running OSX Tiger at the moment. Card is recognized, but I get the message "error joining network." My network has a WPA2 Personal password, and the dialog box coming up on the DA does not give me that option, it is only WEP.  Could that be the problem, and if so, can anyone help me with the solution? Or could it be something else? Thanks!

WPA may not show up until there is a WPA network, then under the Airport icon choose Join Other Network, or Other depending on OS version.
If it isn't available then either Airport needs an update or the card does.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac.
Then click on More Info>Network, on the right click on Airport, down below you'll find something like this...
    AirPort Card Information:
Wireless Card Type:          AirPort Extreme  (0x14E4, 0x4318)
      Wireless Card Locale:          USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version:          Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (4.170.25.8)
      Current Wireless Network:          AispWork1.3
      Wireless Channel:          11
PS. those dongles far surpass Airport cards for Speed & Range.

  • Error joining network? How do I fix it.

I've had my MacBook Pro for a long time now. Only a few months after it's initial release in 2006. I have never had a problem with my wireless connection, home, school, work, cafes, etc...
Over the past few weeks I've been receiving the "error joining network" message. Sometimes it simply won't let me join any network at all, including the ones I have been connecting to for years with no issues. On other occasions it will show that is connected at about 3 bars, drop to 2, 1, then none, and the error joining network message returns.
I am not sure what the issue but if anyone can help me solve the problem I would appreciate it. Is there something wrong with my computer. I doubt it is my router because this is happening literally everywhere I go, not just limited to one place.
Thanks for the help in advance

If by chance you are using an earlier version of the NI-DAQ driver that supports your card, you may not have Measurement and Automation Explorer on your system. If so, you should use the NI-DAQ Configuration Utility to check your card's functionality. I agree with the first suggestion that something has altered the configuration of the card.
You didn't specify your card, OS, or whether you were using a VI in LabVIEW or an EXE and the run-time engine, so it's difficult to give a good diagnosis.
It may be worth your time to run through the online DAQ Troubleshooting pages in the support section of ni.com:
    http://www.ni.com/support/daq/
If you do have an older NI-DAQ driver version, it might also be worth your while to update it so that you get better support on any futu

Yes, I did try to go on my settings>wifi and was waiting for any wifi signals to pick up, but nothing shows up. But on my PC I get a whole list of networks to choose from. Regarding my neighbor, I already have her password that is why I was able to get it on my PC, the problem is that the mini Ipad is not picking any signal neither can it locate me when I go to maps.

  • Device is connected to to a wifi network but does not have access to Blackberry services over wifi connection

please help me, my blackberry curve has been working perfectly fine (everything network and wifi connection are working great) since i got it but all of the sudden when i connect to our wifi at home i noticed that the wifi logo on the upper screen is grayed out. i checked the manual and it says: device is connected to to a wifi network but does not have access to Blackberry services over wifi connection. i dont  know what to do, i tried the hard reset (removed batt for 1 min while phone is on and put it back in) i also tried to remove the wifi profile and added it back up but still nothing seems to work, my service provider has BB services available on my phone, i can received BBM, pushed email, use FB on my phone using my network but i cant use my wifi to browse.. what should i do? help me please!

With a PC, the Windows Firewall and/or the anti-virus software will sometimes block an attempted Internet connection.
Check both applications to see if you can find a "blocked" item and then take steps to "allow" the connection.
If still no luck, temporarily disable the wireless security for a short period to see if the PC can connect that way. If it can.....then you know it is security related issue.
See if the PC can connect using a setting like WPA-PSK-TKIP. The equivalent Apple setting would be WPA/WPA2 Personal.

You might want to try resetting your router and your modem - just unplug the cords, leave them unplugged for about 3-5 minutes and then replug the modem and then the router in that order.
This may or may not correct your problem - call back if it doesn't.

  • Networking with other computers after xp updates stops

will networking with other computers  be possible , safely after xp updates stops?

None of the functionality of Windows XP will change.  Everything you can do today you will be able to do next month.  The only thing that is different is the fact that there will no longer be updates issued for XP.  If you
are doing ONLY internal networking with no internet access, you have nothing to worry about.  If you have internet access, then you will need to be especially certain that the anti-virus is up to date, and you have a good firewall running.

  • HT5457 I update my iPhone with iOS 6 softwar it,s ok but now i have activation problem.

I update my iPhone 3Gs with iOS 6 software it<s ok but now i have activation problem?

How did you get the unlock for your 3GS? If you recently updated to
iOS 6 and your SIM stopped working after the update, the most
likely reason is that your iPhone had been hacked/jailbroken/modified
to work with your Carrier and the update relocked the iPhone to the
    original Carrier.
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>Carrier?
If it does not name your current cellular provider, then the scenario
is as I laid out above. In this situation, Google may help as you can
get no assistance here for jailbroken iPhones.
If that is not the problem, give some more details and someone will
    answer.

  • E3000: RE networking with other computers on the local network

Successfully installed an E3000 (internet and printer work) but cannot see other computers on my local network which are wired into the router, including my server.. I have read a bunch of messages but cannot find an answer. Thank you in advance

Usually when windows 7 computers are on the same LAN, they'll automatically tell you if another computer has already setup a homegroup. After making sure that upnp was kept enabled, delete any homegroups in all of the computers, then make a homegroup on one of the computers. When you go to create a homegroup on the other computers, they should tell you that one has already been created by another computer and to join that one. Here's an article for reference http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/home-sweet-homegroup-networking-the-easy-way#sectio...

  • Error joining network

my airport express is working fine with my desktop, but trying to connect to the wireless network is unreliable on my macbook. often i will unexpectedly lose connection and when i go to rejoin a message pops up and says "there was an error joining the network." after a good 5-10 minutes of trying to reconnect it will work. its not just my laptop. the same problems occur on my macbook pro. can anyone help me out?

This has been happening to me also except I get a "connection timeout" error. I have to physically turn off my router, wait a few seconds or so then turn it back on. After I do that, My macbook is able to find the router and make the connection.
I have not been able to figure out why this is happening. I should not have to turn the router on and off to get a connection.
    Anyone else experiencing this problem?

  • Ipad 2 is unable to join network while other media can

My ipad2 and Apple TV detected the WiFi but are unable to join the network. While my laptop and nokia handphone can connect well. I have done so many things, resetting it number of times, change its name but still not working.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
