Error just before shutdown

hello
i have an error at the end of shutdown, but i can't read it because it's just before the computer switches off. I can read something like "...error...ext4...". I don't know where i can find the error with journalctl. I tried journalctl --all, journalctl _SYSTEMD_UNIT=udisks2.service, journalctl _SYSTEMD_UNIT=systemd-shutdownd.socket, but there is nothing about this error.
Any idea.

Thank you, it was a good idea. But the problem is weird. The message is : EXT4-fs(sda3): ext4_da_writepages: jbd2_start: 8192 pages, ino 663752; err -30.
On google i saw it can be a hardware problem, and the sata port has to be changed, but i never opened a laptop...
I booted on debian and fsck sda3 (/), i had 2 problems : last mount and write are in the future, it was corrected, and no other problem. Then i boot arch and halt and i see something like : can't unmout /   OK. Then i switch off, boot again, halt again, and the first message comes back : EXT4-fs(sda3): ext4_da_writepages: jbd2_start: 8192 pages, ino 663752; err -30.
Well, i don't know...

  • Why do I get an error just before a rented movie finishes downloading?

I rented a movie on my Mac, with the intention to then transfer it to my ipad 3 and watch it there. When I transfered it to the ipad, somehow something happened and it dissapear. I have been trying to re-download it whithout success because just before it finishes, and error appears.

  • Windows locks up just before shutdown or reb

I have a very strange problem, and I have isolated it to happening after installing my soundblaster drivers. When I attempt to shut down or reboot, windows does everything it normally would except for actually restarting (it leaves me with an empty blue screen), forcing me to do a hard shutdown or reboot.
I have noticed this on the following hard ware configs (all using WinXP SP2):
    Athlon XP 2500+

    SoundBlaster Li've! 5. PCI

    GeForce 6800GT PCIe
(also tested using WinXP x64, same problem)
Note that this does not happen when using other OSs (ie: GNU/Linux), or before installing Creative's drivers.
    Any help would be appriciated.
    Thanks.

I have a similar problem with my Audigy 4. When I try to shutdown or restart the PC, about 90% of the time the PC stops when displaying the "Saving your settings" bar, which looks normal and is still animating but will not progress. From my experience the problem occurs when Entertainment Center is enabled, which seems to be the only way to be able to use the external box and remote properly. When Entertainment Center is disabled the PC shuts off normally. I also have random PC crashes when using the external box volume controls. • Registry writing right before shutdown fails

    Hi,
In my NDIS driver code I am trying to write a parameter to the registry (using NdisWriteConfiguration and then I call NdisCloseConfiguration). Usually it works fine, but when I do that just before shutdown the registry is not updated. Can you please help?
    Thanks.

At some point during shutdown, the registry unmounts itself.  This is normal.  During an orderly shutdown, the registry flushes its caches, clears the in-use flag, closes the registry.  Then the filesystem flushes its caches, clears its in-use
flag, and closes the disk volume.  While this is happening, you can't write to the registry, since that would invalidate all the dismounting work.
If you really need to save off state, you can call
IoRegisterShutdownNotification to be notified before this happens.  But this is sort of unusual and I don't really encourage it.
Of course, you still need to have a plan for what happens if there shutdown is
not orderly. E.g., what if the power cord gets yanked out? My inclination is to make the "disorderly shutdown" case the every-time case. Then you don't have to worry about special cases, and your recovery code gets tested on every boot.

Hello, and welcome to the OTN forums!
i was told that this prg will install in my 64 bit OS (Windows 7).Who told you that, and why don't you ask him/her why it didn't work? (just kidding...)
In fact, XE 11.2 is currently not supported on 64 bit Windows machines. See the [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm#BABHICJH]System Requirements documented in the Installation Guide for XE 11.2.
The error you receive has been reported often when people tried to install on 64 bit anyway. There are workarounds for that issue, e. g. described in this thread: {thread:id=2289186}

That is OK. Firefox will only display the link in the location bar after the DNS look up has succeeded and a connection to the server has been established. Until that has been done you see the default setting for the location bar: Tools > Options > Privacy > Location Bar: When using the location bar, suggest

  • Getting errors just trying to download Mavericks wondering if I really should do it

I'm reading of others having problems w Mavericks, although some say its fine.
The reason that is pushing me is that I updated my iPad Mini to ios 7 & now when I try to open a Numbers file on it, it tells me if I open it, I will no longer be able to sync until I upgrade to Mavericks. Not happy about that w no warning & not expecting an OS upgrade to change apps. I was certainly not expecting to lose the ability to sync iWorks files between my iPad Mini & MacBookPro just because I upgraded to ios 7.
But I decided today to take the time to actually go ahead. I really need to use that file & want to keep it synced between ipad & Mac. Data entry is easier on the Mac, but I'm not using it as much these days since I can do much of my everyday things, email, web browsing & iMessaging on it, as well as taking notes in Pages.
I'm also wondering about upgrading from Mountain Lion to Mavericks. I've spent hours preparing my Mac. 1st checking to make sure Paralells 8 would work, then updating it to latest version & then updating Windows & its virus definitions.
Then I had read some reports of people having trouble w mail, so decided to delete quite a lot of mail (still have a lot but I guess I deleted over 10k messages.
I also updated Mountain Lion. & also removed some things from the desktop.
Then I closed out of everything & shut down for a few min. Then rebooted.
All this to give the optimal environment for downloading & installing what I realize is a large file.
This is bringing back memories of when I upgraded to Mountain Lion on my mid 2010 MacBookPro (replaced in May after spilling water all over it). I purched it to download at Apple store. It went all the way through w me at the projects table. It seemed like it was done but was stuck. But the Apple person kept saying to wait. Finally he asked the Geniuses who said to shut down & start over. That time it did work.
Opened App store & selected Mavericks Free Update. Got an error message. It said there was an error & to try from Purchased. Tried there & got errors after just a few seconds 2-3 times before it finally started downloading. It got up to near 500 mb & then came the error message again.
I did not have anything else open as I went right to start downloading.
So, w reading about the problems others are having & these problems just downloading I'm having major 2nd thoughts so think I may not go ahead, especially as the evening is moving on & I guess even if it downloads smoothly it was showing expected download time (when it was doing the 1st part) of around 40-45 min w my fairly fast internet download of 25.89 (just now tested using SpeedTest. Of course don't know exactly what it was when I was trying to download a few min ago, but that's about what it usually is).
So w this much trouble just trying to download. How do I know whether it will work ok after downloaded or have problems like others are reporting?
I have plenty of HD space--401.58 GB storage available.  4 GB memory
I'm using wifi, w my MacBookPro right next to the Arris Telephony modem from Comcast & the wifi router.
    Mid 2012 MacBookPro.

    Update
OK, Today I went ahead & booted & tried again & it worked this time.
Not sure why it didn't yesterday. Maybe the servers were just overloaded? Several others reported similar.
Also yesterday when I ran Speedtest it showd download at about 25 mbps, This morning just before I re-started the download it was showing just above 30 mbps.  So maybe the internet was less busy? Or at least the parts between me & the test server.
& so far it is working ok.

  • I'm trying to share to Media Browser a 20 minute still slide show with music and text. I have tried several times to save at 1080 HD, but just before it's finished, a message box pops up saying "File already open with write permission."  What's this mean?

I'm trying to finalize/share to Media Browser a 20 minute still slide show with music and text. I'd like to finalize it 1080 hd and have tried several times, but just before it's finished, a message box pops up saying it can't be done because "File already open with with write permission."  What does this mean?  All files are closed; this iMovie project is the only thing open.  Does it mean one of the song files from iTunes? And should I just settle for saving it as a "large" file, which is what I'm trying right now?
    Thanks,

All apps that were open before shutdown are relaunching themselves upon startup.
This behavior occurs even if I quit each application individually before initiating system shutdown.
This behavior occurs whether I tick or untick the following settings within System Preferences / General:
    • Ask to keep changes when closing documents.
    • Close windows when quitting an application.
This behavior occurs despite none of the apps being listed within System Prefs / Login Items.
Examples of auto-launching apps (behavior occured just now with these): TextEdit, Dictionary, Calendar, Contacts, Safari, Firefox, Excel, Acrobat.

This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box markedAllow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use  another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Spinning wheel freezes before shutdown

Can anyone enlighten me please on what is being checked by the system during shutdown while the spinning wheel is spinning?
My Mac Pro is not shutting down properly and the wheel freezes just before the system reboots. This reboot does not allow you to do a Safe start or go to alternate OS on startup
I am using a Matrox Triple Head to Go box and the Mac works fine when I bypass it However I have a three montior system for a reason and having to fall back to one is very painful
I do recall seeing something in passing on a browse about the spinning wheel inicates the system is looking for something and when it freezes it may have to do with nor finding that something, sorry I did not pay closer attnetion to that comment at the time

  • Before shutdown

    Hi,
IS there any proactive before shutdown in oracle 9i/10g?
    like JOB_QUEUE_PROCESSES. AQ_TM_PROCESSES(is it deprecated).

Press the Power button once. If the Shutdown dialog appears then press RETURN to shut down. If it does not appear then you must do an abnormal shutdown by pressing and holding down the Power button for 5-10 seconds until the computer shuts down.
Before restarting the computer do the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Why my screen is blinking just before launching the form?

    Hello
I am developing an Adobe interactive form from LiveCycle designer from Webdynpro ABAP.
I wrote some very very simple validation Java Script at the form fields level at INITIALIZATION event, fine.
When i am launching the form in the browser (i mean, TESTing the webdynpro application in SE80), am getting couple of BLINKING popups.......at the same time, the screen also BLINKING.........finally, the form is launching!!
Why am getting BLINKING (popups, laptop screen) just before launcing the form on the screen/browser? Any mistakes in Java Script? When i did/click CHECK SYNTAX button, i did not see any red issues(except couple of warning).
    Thank you

    Hello Srinivas,
Even I see this on my screen several times. This might be because of any javascript error resulted from your script.
To see this dialog box, you should enable your javascript debugger. Open Adobe Reader, got menu, Edit -> Preferences, click the javascript tab on the left hand
    side.
Now on the right hand side,
In Javascript section -- check Enable Acrobat Javascript.
In Javascript debugger section -- check the button Show console on errors and messages.
This should help you in displaying the javascript debugger. If you still dont see the debugger,
put some syntax errors temporarily in your form initialize event javascript, try to open the form using adobe reader.
If it still doesn't show, Use Ctrl - J to show the debugger.
