  • ITunes Error-Library file cannot be saved

Ever since I updated iTunes has been doing all kinds of weird things. Tonight I'm listening to tunes and I keep getting an error box that says "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-54)." It doesn't interupt the music but it is annoying and I have so much music, I don't know if I'm losing songs or not. Can someone tell me what to look for? This update has been the worst yet. Most of the time, iTunes has my iPhone and my iPad showing in the Library column when neither one is attached.

this is kind of funny. First I read from paper something that Apple is going to break every hacked or some other way touched Iphones to keep their business rolling. Now they did something with the iTunes which eventually broke up our playlist. I fixed this with by deleting my Smart playlists. What I noticed while deleting those was kind of... wierd..
I have all my classic rock etc in the play list named Speed metal. While I was listening WASP (ripped from CD, not bought from itunes - is that what makes you mad, Apple? ) from the normal library I got the error message. So. I though that there must be some broken link between smart list and this song and I deleted the smartlist (Speedmetal).
Wierd part is that I was still listening this song from iTunes Library but when I deleted the smart list it stopped playing the music. That is when I realized that the smart list system is some how affected with this newest update.
After deleting I didn't had to rebuild the library or anything so I still got my Date added and how many times played tags available and also my own genres! Thank god. Because I have all my CD's (~400) on iTunes with own Genres and settings...
Now... Can I update my Tiger to Leopard when it comes out or will it just spit my Samsung DVD drive out of the mac because I didn't get it from Apple Store?

  • ITunes error message: "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You have exceeded your storage quota on the disk you are attempting to use." What do I do?

I recently started receiving the following iTunes error message when I attempt to update the software on my iPad or iPhone: "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You have exceeded your storage quota on the disk you are attempting to use."
Any ideas what I need to do? The software won't update on my iPad, and I need to update through iTunes, as my iPad does not have enough free space to use the OTA service.

You need to free up space on your boot drive.
(I am going to ask the mods move this to the MacBook Pro forum.)

  • I have a new PC and I am getting the message "The iTunes Library File cannot be saved.  You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."  I am the only one using this PC and I have Windows 7 Pro and have an administrator account.  Help

Can anyone help me with this problem.  ITunes message," The iTunes library file cannot be saved.  You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."   I have administrator account and transferred files from old PC.  I downloaded new iTunes program on new PC.  I synced my iPhone to new PC, no problem.  I deleted old account after indicating shared files to new admin account.  Can anyone help?

A belated reply, as the problems itunes has have discouraged me from using it much. If you uncheck the "read only" box, it doesn't stay that way! Next time you use it, the box comes up checked.
I'm still having that problem, even when I open iTunes as administrator.
I've yet to see the answer to this problem. I use itunes mostly to download audiobooks, and I'm ready to download more, and want to save them!

  • Error message -48: The itunes library file cannot be saved.

    Hello,
When I open up my itunes i get an error message 48 - the itunes library file cannot be saved. All my data is there - music, podcasts etc. Just wondering if this error message means anything, if so what, and what I can do to fix it?
    Thanks!

I just called Apple Support and I think they helped me, but I'm still waiting to see if the error message returns. I was experiencing the same problem. Whenever I started iTunes, I would get the -48 error message. Everything else was working fine. Apple Support instructed me to delete some files from a folder and restart my pc. I did this and it seems to have worked. The folder is on my C:/ drive. Using Windows Explorer, I went to my C:/ drive and then opened the following folders in this order: "Documents and Settings", "Administrator", "Application Data", "Apple Computer", "iTunes", "iPod Software Updates". Inside the iPod Software Updates folder, I found four files which I deleted. I then emptied my trash can and restarted my pc. After I restarted my pc and opened iTunes, the error message did not come up. So it looks like my problem has been solved. Just some minor glitch having to do with the last update. I should mention that I did just get an iPod Classic 80 gig which replaced my 30 gig iPod Photo which just died.

  • The itunes library file cannot be saved. An Unknown error occurred (-1450)

    Greetings,
    I'm getting the following error:
The itunes library file cannot be saved. An Unknown error occurred (-1450)
I have uninstalled/reinstalled Itunes twice including deleting the old databases. After importing my old songs I get the above error continuously and when I restart Itunes my songs are no longer listed in Itunes.
One thing, all the folders on my computer or now "Read-Only" I can't get rid of this. I uncheck it and aply the change but when I check the properties for the folder again Read-Only is selected again. This is a funny read-only in that the check in the box selecting read-only is ghosted but still there AND WONT GO AWAY.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

i did move the music library folder to a shared documents folder, but I'm the only one who uses that folder. and the hard drive is not full, almost, but still 10 gigs left for use. itunes was working fine, and then one time when it started up it said the there were missing files, and that itunes had to be reinstalled. I looked but could not see any missing files. nothing bad has happened.it cant be a virius, because i have not been on the internet at all in the last month. but i did use CCleaner to clean out my hard drive of unnecessary files , not the first time i have, and then itunes did not work, this has never happened after I've done this so i doubt that CC was the prolbem. I looked at all of the files it was going to delete, and none of them were related to itunes.

  • ITunes comes up saying the iTunes library files cannot be saved. an unknown error occured

iTunes comes up saying the iTunes library files cannot be saved. an unknown error occured
    what should i do

Note: Close iTunes completely before doing any of this.
After getting this error, I found a bunch of Temp files in the same folder as my iTunes library. The thing that stuck me as odd about this was that there were 4-5 of them labeled "Temp File.xml", "Temp File2.xml", etc. and when I tried to select any of them, the selected file(s) would mysteriously disappear. I ended up Selecting everything except the Temp File.xml files, and moving it elsewhere (I actually just put in a new folder in the parent folder).
I then deleted/"Move to Trash"ed the folder that used to contain my Library, and renamed the new folder to have the same name as the old folder.
Then I clicked on the iTunes icon (hold down option/alt from before you click, until the "choose library" dialog appears), and chose my old iTunes Library. This re-linked my old library and restored it to how it was before error (-48) started rearing its ugly head.
(Windows users, when you re-open iTunes to link your library back in... you double click the icon, then immediately press-and-hold "shift" until the dialog appears)

  • Trying to back up iPad to external hard drive, "iTunes library file cannot be saved. The disk you are attempting to use is full."

This issue is somewhat complex so I will try to explain it as clearly as I can. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
It all began when I kept getting popups from my iPad saying that I had not backed up since May. I realized that was pretty dangerous so I decided to finally try syncing it to iTunes, though I had avoided doing so for so long because I knew that when I tried there was no room on the computer. I then remembered that I have an external hard drive with plenty of storage space, so I got that out and set it up with a folder to move iTunes and the backup into.
On iTunes I went to the Advanced Preferences and changed iTunes Media Folder Location to the G: folder, with the keep organized box checked. I also copied the previous backups from the original C: drive to G: so that I could delete the ones on C:.
I used Junction Link Magic to link my now empty MobileSync backup on C: to a new (JLM would not work unless it was empty) backup folder on external hard drive G:.
I plugged in my iPad to iTunes to sync it, and while it was backing up I checked the new folder on G: to make sure that the backup was being put there. It was.
However, about halfway through I got the message "iTunes library file cannot be saved. The disk you are attempting to use is full."
My question is Why? If it is being made in a 1.5 terabyte hard drive now, and not the computer, why is there no disk space? My guess is that it must still somehow be saving to the computer. But how? And how can I get it to save solely on the G: drive where there is enough room?
I am running Windows XP and the latest version of iTunes.
An additional but not as crucial issue:
Much of my music has been lost, with the being displayed next to the songs in the iTunes library, and only 50 (purchased) songs remain on my iPad. This was because those missing songs were stored on a different external hard drive ( I:). However, I copied many of the music folders on I: over to G: so that everything could be together. I am wondering if it is possible for me to get these songs back onto my iPad. But this is not my most important issue right now, because I believe that once I get the first issue solved I can simply plug in I: and G: at the same time while syncing the iPad, and get the songs back.
Note: I have come to realize the iTunes program itself is still under Program Files in the C: drive. Does this have to do with anything?

Short term, free up some disk space. Long term, move the library to a bigger drive.

  • Error Message: The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. Unknown Error 13001

    My error message says:
The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An Unknown error occurred (13001).
Ever since I loaded the new 3.0 touch upgrade I have been bombarded by error after error. I have turned off genius which seemed to fix the problem at first but about an hour later the error warning popped up again. I have tried the shift start and selected my library with no improvement. It seems to pop up if I load a new podcast or download something and then fails to download.

Hmmm, that error message came up a lot with older itunes & Genius, like 8.0 version. But you have 8.2.
I don't know why it would crash on a download unless it is maybe a permissions problem. The download starts, but permissions make it so it cannot save it at the very end? Make sure you have ownership and full control over your itunes folder and all its subfolders.
How to Take Ownership and Grant Permissions in Windows Vista
And since you've turned off Genius, try deleting these 2 files
    iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    iTunes Library Extras.itdb
Restart itunes and see if there is any difference....good luck!

  • "The Itunes library file cannot be saved" Error Message (-54) please help!

Hello, I was loading a music cd onto my itunes library today when I started getting this recurring Error message stating: "The Itunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error has occurred (-54)"
It just keeps popping up, and now it let me play anything without getting it. So in a panic I realized that nothing is backed up, so I started backing up my itunes using a blank dvd and even that failed in the middle of burning. I guess it has something to do with the error message?
This scares me since I'm very careful of the types of discs I put into my Mac, and I know that disc in particular didn't have any kind of virus (its been playing in my car for the last two years actually) and it was burned on my PC using itunes a while back when the system was clean.
My music is like my life and this message is freaking me out, how do I get rid of the message without damaging my library? or what happened to make it appear?
I'm afraid of how to proceed next.....Someone please help!

I suspect some anti-virus software is incorrectly interpreting the rewriting of the file and is causing a problem.
Either way, you should definitely update your anti-virus software and definitions to the latest, and run a full scan of your system. Then tell the security software not to scan the iTunes itl file/folder.
If that does not help, you may want to recreate your iTunes library:

I know this doesn't help you Bud, but I've had this issue for at least the last couple of versions.  If I can ask, what is you enviornment like?  Local PC only, libray saved on another PC/Server?
In my case my library is on Windows 2003 server with the share mapped to drive M:  This has worked for many years through both XP and Windows 7 until and update a while ago.

    Hi pholewinski!
I have a couple of articles for you here that I believe will help you with this issue. The first is an article on advanced troubleshooting, and it can be found here:
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3297
If following that article's steps doesn't take care of the issue, you can try the things listed in this article, which is about permissions issues in iTunes:

  • The iTunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50).

I launch iTunes, I get "Updating iTunes library" and then, "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50)." This started happening after I upgraded to iTunes 7.3. Things seem to work OK, but my artwork was rearranged in coverflow, and it seems to take much longer to get music videos to come up in Frontrow. This is a problem because my 2 1/2 year old doesn't like to wait for his Chili Pepper videos. What do I need to fix?

  • The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-48).

I think this is a common issue with the current version from what I've seen from a quick google search. The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-48). Then it asks to warn again or not, even though it comes up every time I restart iTunes. And I can't add anything to my iTunes. It won't save...Help please. Also forgot to mention that from now on my itunes requires i agree to some TOS every time I open it. Idk if this is part of the update or anything but...used to not do that.
THanks and sry if this is a common issue,
