Error LVM on boot

Hi All,
on boot I get the following error on the journal
Cannot add dependency job for unit lvm.service, ignoring: Unit lvm.service failed to load: No such file or directory
I've checked on the net and changed as stated here https://www.archlinux.org/news/changes-to-lvm/
but nothing changed, the error is still there.
can you point me in the right direction?
I did not find any info about this error
thanks

I'm trying to fix a similar problem with bootup. I found a tutorial on boot debugging here:
http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/Debugging/
Let me know if it helps. I still have yet to fix my problem.

Hi Bettybee2, and a warm welcome to the forums!
As for deletion, feel free to switch iDisk Sync off and then toss the disk image. If you see a warning that the file is busy when you try to empty the Trash, log out and back in again and then empty the Trash.

  • Error biohd-2 boot path testing no drive detected

Hi, I have an error massage on boot path testing and says no drive detected. The error code is BIOHD-2. My dard drive and everthying is OK but somehow unable to boot. please help.

    Hello ayaansharif:
These links might help you http://www.windowserrorhelps.com/biohd-2-error-fix-error-code-biohd-2-by-yourself-now , http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091109134242AAVBaGy, http://www.touchsmartdevzone.com/forum/thread/969/Error-Code-BIOHD-2/ ,http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/948483-solved-hp-desktop-selecting-proper.html Based on these answers it looks like they replaced the hard drive. Check your warranty status your computer maybe still under warranty. You can go to your computer's HP web page and  click on manual go down your computers parts list and find what hard drive it uses then go to HP's computers parts ordering page and order one. If under warranty just contact HP Direct Support and they will ship you a new hard drive. They are not to difficult to install. Just time consumming removing the little screws. You may need to order a set of recovery disk from HP as well. Because HP's recovery disk include the operating system disks. Please click on Kudos if this resolves your issue. Thank you frrw.

I have activated the ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE_TOOLS in my laptop-mode.conf file, but I can't find the error messages in /var/log :

  • Getting an error 'Cannot open Boot device' while trying to install Solaris

    Hi,
We were trying to install Solaris * on a Sun Sparc system and the CD rom drive does not seem to get recognised. When we try booting from cd rom we get an error 'Cannot open boot device' .
This server was up & running and we were trying to remove a hard disk that had failed and modified the vfstab script . After that the system failed to even boot up. So when we tried reinstalling the OS we are running into this problem.
Am new to this technology ...And any help would be greatly appreciated. .....
    Thanks

Cdrom drive must be scsi device 6
I assume you are running < boot cdrom> at the ok prompt
also at the ok prompt run the command <probe-scsi> (without the angled brackets) you need to see the following:
    Target 6
Unit 0 Removable read only device TOSHIBA XM.......bigpileofnumbers
If not, check the cdrom drive and the cdrom inside
    hope this helps

  • New MacMini - System Error on Initial Boot

I just bought a new Mac Mini 2.5Ghz/Core 2 i5/500GB HDD and instead of initial boot up with stock Mavericks install I cloned my existing Mavericks partition fromm previous MacMini to new HDD but I get a system error message on boot up.    I can run the old Mavericks install from the external drive attached to the new Mac Mini just fine but can't boot from the  internal drive.    I am trying now to do a virgin install of Mavericks downloaded from the app store  but where is it written you must do the inital boot of a new machine from the installed OS?  Don't understand why a clone of Mavericks doesn't work.

    Reinstalling Mavericks worked.   Problem solved.

  • Error messages when booting up

Receive 3 error messages when booting up PS using Win 8. "Could not load the FastCore Routines Module, could not load the MMX Core, could not load the Multiprocess Support Module." Any explanation?

Ah-ha! Seems there are two Adobe program folders, one under Program Files and one under Program Files (x86). I did not know about the one under Program Files.
    According to System Info:
    Required Plug-ins folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC (64 Bit)\Required\Plug-Ins\
    Primary Plug-ins folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC (64 Bit)\Plug-ins\
Creative Cloud app keeps wanting to update Photoshop CC but keeps failing. The error code is U44M1P7.
Following is all of the System Info, showing the third-party plug-ins that I installed a few hours ago from onOne and Topaz. I can't see anything odd in this, and System Info says all the plug-ins loaded.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Error with dual boot Win 8/OL6 R3

    Hello,
I am hoping to discuss this with someone who has experience with this configuration. My goal is to get Oracle Linux dual booting on my windows 8 machine.
I have installed OL but I am having trouble getting it to dual boot win8/OL using the windows boot menu. Whereas windows 8 boots as expected, the Oracle Linux option gives me the error:
"+Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause...contact you system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance+
    +File:+ \NST\nst_linux.mbr
    +Status: 0xc000007b+
+Info: The selected application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.+"
Here are some details of the scenario:
    - Documentation followed: Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux-6-Installation_Guide-en-US.pdf
    - Hardware: Dell Precision M4700 64 bit UEFI
    - OEM installed/Default OS: Windows 8 Pro 64 bit
    - Installation source: OracleLinux-R6-U3-Server-x86_64-dvd.iso (written to DVD)
These are the broad steps I followed:
    In windows 8
    I:
    - downloaded the Linux ISO software. The checksum on the download matched
    - wrote the ISO to a bootable installation disk
    - created a new 344gb partition for Linux using the DOS DISKPART command - partition 7
    Linux Install
    - I booted using the Linux installation DVD and started the installation
    - When Installing Linux partition 7 became a 500mb system partition and partition 8 became the 343 gb Linux partition
    - I manually created the boot partition as ext3 (because the pdf I was following said "+If your 64-bit x86 system uses UEFI instead of BIOS, you will need to manually create a /boot partition. This partition must have an ext3 file system. If you choose to partition automatically, your system will not boot.+"
    - I installed the boot loader on sda7. I selected “First sector of boot partition - /dev/sda7”. I assume this installs separate GRUB boot loader on the Linux partition (7) – which will then be 'chain loaded' from the windows boot menu. Put another way, it will boot with the windows boot manager, which will give me an option to chain load the Grub boot loader, which will then run Linux...
    - I chose the desktop installation
    - The installation reported that it completed successfully
I successfully booted back into windows:
    - I used easybcd to edit the microsoft bcd and successfully created a boot menu for Oracle Linux. I used the legacy grub because the Linux documentation says "+Note that the version of GRUB in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 is an old and stable version now known as "GRUB Legacy" since upstream development moved to GRUB 2.3 Red Hat remains committed to maintaining the version of GRUB that we ship with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, just as we do with all packages that we ship.+".
    - After installing Linux and updating the BCD, the BCD now looks like this:
    Windows Boot Manager
    identifier {bootmgr}
    path \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\bootmgfw.efi
    description Windows Boot Manager
    locale en-US

    device partition=C:
    path \NST\nst_linux.mbr
    description OracleLinux
I'm not sure the BCD entry is correct. I assume that this entry should be pointing to the nst_linux.mbr on the Linux boot partition. However I have verified that this file exists in windows 8:
    C:\NST\nst_linux.mbr
I haven't been able to exactly confirm how the boot process should work i.e. whether this file should actually be in the Linux boot partition (as opposed to the windows c drive) and whether the BCD should also point to the Linux boot partition when referring to this partition.
As I mentioned above, I now have the windows boot menu with Windows 8 (which boots successfully) and Oracle Linux (which gives me the error see below for complete wording**). Is the Real-mode Boot sector wrong? Should it point to the Linux boot partition? Is it a problem with my UEFI disk? I don't think it should be because this version of Oracle Linux supports UEFI and my hardware is UEFI.
Has anyone carried out a similar win8/OL dual boot?
    2001
** Complete wording of the Linux boot option in the windows boot manager:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
    1. Insert your Windows installation disk and restart the computer.
    2. Choose your language settings, and then click "next".
    3. Click "Repair your computer".
If you do not have this disk, contact you system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance
    File: \NST\nst_linux.mbr
    Status: 0xc000007b

    Hi,
    Here are my responses:
*[asmirnov]* Could you please confirm, I just want to see if I got it right the first time -
*[2001]* I'm happy to share my progress
    Q1)
*[asmirnov]* You did create a partition (where you would install Linux) from Win8, correct?
*[2001]* Yes. I used diskmgmt.msc to create a separate partition. I didn't format the partition because the Linux install doesn't want that, it creates and formats the partitions in the unallocated partition
    Q2)
*[asmirnov]* You use GRUB (not GRUB2)?
*[2001]* I'm not sure where you were asking about, so I hope my answer here covers all possibilities you may have meant.
I was using the windows 8 boot. I wanted to chain load to the boot loader in the Linux Partition. It is interesting what the Linux install did with my partition, it created 2 partitions in the unformatted partition. 1 was a bootable partition and the other was the Linux partition. The details were:
    2 sda’s (a boot / ext4 and a VolGroup (vg_linuxlocalhost)/ physical volume (LVM) ). In the VolGroup it created 3 lv’s, lv_root, lv_home and lv_swap. I understand that this is all normal.
I followed the documentation note which said "To configure the Red Hat Enterprise Linux boot loader to chain load from a different boot loader, you must specify the boot drive manually. If you chose any of the automatic partitioning options, you must now select the Review and modify partitioning layout option before you click Next or you cannot specify the correct boot drive"
So there was also the note in the documentation that said "Note that the version of GRUB in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 is an old and stable version now known as "GRUB Legacy" since upstream development moved to GRUB 2.3 Red Hat remains committed to maintaining the version of GRUB that we ship with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, just as we do with all packages that we ship." I didn't install any bootloaders manually (either the windows 8 OOTB default that came with my machine or the Linux one), I just took the defaults. I'm wasn't sure how to access the Linux partitions once it is installed, so I can't confirm it was the legacy GRUB in the Linux boot partition, but I believe this note is saying that it OL6 does use the legacy grub. I believe GRUB Legacy is version .97.
    Q3)
*[asmirnov]* Which version of Linux exactly did you use, was that Oracle Linux or you used one from RedHat directly? What is the kernal version?
*[2001]* I used "OracleLinux-R6-U3-Server-x86_64-dvd.iso.sha1sum" from the mirror site http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/oraclelinux/OL6/U3/x86_64/. According to the release notes at: https://oss.oracle.com/ol6/docs/RELEASE-NOTES-U3-en.html the kernel is
    - Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 2 [kernel-uek-2.6.39-200.24.1.el6uek]. Installed and booted by default
    - Red Hat compatible Kernel [kernel-2.6.32-279.el6]. Installed by default
Note: By default, both the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and the Red Hat Compatible Kernel for the specific architecture (i386 or x86_64) are installed, and the system boots the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel by default. If needed, /etc/grub.conf and /etc/sysconfig/kernel can be modified to make the system boot with the Red Hat Compatible Kernel by default.
Regarding your follow-up point that "Microsoft blocks 3rd party chainloaders from the BCD menu for UEFI machines. We are researching workarounds, none have presented themselves as of yet.", I'm not sure it actually blocks it, but it certainly isn't a straight forward process.
I have actually abandoned my attempt to get the dual boot working. It is a real shame because I wanted to do it for my own satisfaction.
I am now using Oracle Virtual Box as suggested by others, include Dude earlier in this thread. This has given me confidence that I was doing all the right things because the install worked first time without any problems. The virtualization is much simpler and I have had no problems so far.
    Fusion
As for your point about the fusion middleware and OL5. I am looking at Oracle SOA with is part of the Fusion brand. I think that the latest SOA components will work on OL6 - but I have yet to try it. Following the certification matrix can be a little difficult. So as I indicated above, my current thoughts are to use the Oracle Virtual Box with Linux r6 u3 and to install the SOA components on that when I get chance. The alternative is using the pre-built virtual machine it has Linux and SOA (it might cover your stack too, or there may be another one that suits you better on the site) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/soasuite/learnmore/vmsoa-172279.html. Note that this is still on OL5.
    I hope this helps.

  • Syslinux, GPT, RAID 0/1, LVM: Successfully boots, then hangs/crashes

I have a system with two hard drives that were initially zeroed-out (sda and sdb).  I'm trying to do an Arch install with Syslinux, GPT partitioning, RAID1 (/boot and swap), and RAID0 (LVM for / and /home).  I can get my install to boot successfully but after I enter my username (root) and password (hunter2) it's completely usable until it seems to hang (sometimes shifting the display) moments later.

  • Screen splitting error and red boot screen

Hi, I was using my macbook pro just now and the screen started to glitch and show black vertical bars and the displayed image was split up. I tried to see if there's an unresponsive program that i can force quit then the screen just turned grey and was stuck there.
I then manually restarted the mac, it prompted me with a press button to continue booting up screen then it was stuck on the grey screen again.
I tried to start in safe mode then it booted with a red screen and i believed did a system check. But I'm not sure. It then got stuck on the grey screen again.
I rebooted the machine manually and then now it booted up fine.
It has happened twice before. Once the split screen issue was solved by quitting Spotify and the second time similar events happened as described above.
I have previously taken the mac to the genius bar and they ran a hardware check and found that everything was fine. Since I couldn't reproduce the error whilst being in the store they said there was nothing they could do.
    Update:
The screen splitting issue has occurred at least twice since the event happened above. I have managed to collect another problem report which i can show in addition to the first one.
I believe that there is a problem with the dedicated graphics card since whenever i use gfxCardStatus to switch to the AMD Radeon HD 6490M graphics card the screen splitting problem occurs. The problem also occurs when the machine automatically switches to the dedicated graphics card with things like Spotify, Google maps and other more intensive applications. Moreover, the second time the problem occurred when i was streaming a TV show and gfxCardStatus showed that the machine has switched to the dedicated Radeon card.
I'm not sure what i can do about it right now other than trying not to use the dedicated graphics card.  Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks!
If it helps, I've upgraded the ram myself previously. But that was a few years ago and didn't show any problems when i first installed it.
It is an early 2011 Macbook Pro with OS X Mavericks 10.9.4
The split screen issue looks like this:
Apologies for the rotated image I don't know how to rotate it on the site.
It also appears identical to the one shown here, three posts down: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15920113
The problem report of the first event is shown here:

  • CS3 Premiere error 0xc0000409 on boot-up no matter how many times I install

It wasn't easy finding this forum place but anyway I hope you can help me out
first off I use Windows XP and it is CS3 Premiere Pro I am talking about of the Master Suite, second off I am not English and because my error was displayed in Dutch I have tried to make a translation that was as accurate as I could.
Well how it started, Premiere was working fine one morning, I have been using it for about a year no errors nothing with any of my products however when I came back from school one day and decided to rip some audio for a school assignment it started crashing on boot up without giving me any indication to why it was doing this, the purple block came up and when it was done windows popped up with the message that the application had to be terminated and that was it..
So I tried to reinstall and afterwards my After Effects joined in on the fun with the Virtual Function Call and library errors, Premiere had no changes in it at all. So I tried again and then After Effects complained about not being able to unpack the effects and this went on for 5 hours afterwards with every reinstall I would either have the virtual memory plus or the unable to unpack fileformats and effects error..
I scanned my pc for viruses, zero were found, I tried system restore but that failed because there weren't any changes made to the system and so I called a repair man who took my computer away and took a look at it himself, he installed the master suite again and now After Effects works again however Premiere says this when it starts up
an exception unknown exception in software (0xc0000409) has occurred in the application on location 0x06ad5389
the beginning part made me laugh a little and I just tried to use a different setup and tried to trial version however that one as well results with the same error message as labelled above and I fear that every time I install it this will happen..
So could anyone care tell me wth is going on?

okay I'll work off the list:
    1. the proble: listed above int he opening post
    2. hardware:
system: Windows XP Home Edition Service pack 3
    Computer:
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
    E6750@ 2.66 Ghz
Ram and work memory: 2.13 Ghz and 2.00 GB
vid card: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
    current driver version: 6.14.11.6921
    3. project settings, I didn't save the project but it was a Pal and I only imported an audio file and navigated through it nothing else:
    Codec: 0x0161 (WMA v2)
after that my premiere started crashing with the "this application had to be shut down error" and when reinstalling it wouldn't go away and then After Effects started erroring with the Virtual stuff followed by unable to unpack effects so I checked for virusses, tried System restore but both had no effect because there were no virusses and no changes were made to the system. So I send my pc to repairs and they were reinstalled it and told me there was nothing wrong with my system and so I tried to boot up Premiere again btu I got this error now, After Effects however works fine I must add
I tried reinstalling on a different drive but it doesn't help..

  • Error while Creating Boot Media - SMS_Site.SubmitRegistrationRecord

    Hello,
I am struggling to get some Boot Media created in SCCM 2012 R2. I import the correct .pfx Certificate and I am able to select the Management Point/s.
My account has been given Role Based access to this SCCM instance. On our test SCCM instance I am a Full Administrator and do not get this problem creating Boot Media.
    Any advice please?

  • Getting weird error message when booting up our computer

when booting up our iMac, we get a gray screen with an error message in 4 languages saying: "you need to restart your computer"
upon restarting, we keep getting the same message.
at the same time we noticed that the screen was very fuzzy... I re-starting holding commandoption+pr to re-set the pram. that worked to get the screen clear, but i still ended up on the same message.
after a few re-starts, the screen went back to the fuzzy view.
I have also already checked the led lights on the back to assure that the power supply was working appropriately, and i got all 3 lights ON and solid. the 4th light (overheating) was not coming on...
    any ideas or recommendations??

    Try this:
Repairing permissions is an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two.
    Background information here:

    and here:

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.
