  • Illegal MAC address on 5800

I have just taken delivery of 2 Nokia 5800s, one form Orange and one from Three. The wifi network I will be connecting to most often controls connectivity via a list of approved MAC adresses (the access point is a cisco WAP4410N).
When entering the 5800 MAC addresses in the WAP4410N's configuration the phone from Orange presented no problem, but the one from Three resulted in an error "MAC address must be 12  Hex characters (0-9 and A-F) with optional delimiters (: or -), and the second bit is not a odd number".
It seems the MAC address of the Three supplied phone disobeys this rule. It's MAC address is EC:9B:5B:xx:xx:xx. The Orange supplied 5800 has a more standard address starting 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx.
Calls to Three technical support were fruitless.
I could of course disable the wifi MAC connectivity control without compromising the security too much, but this would be a last resort.
What standards does Nokia use to assign MAC addresses?
Is there something special about MAC address assigning in relation to Three supplied phones?
Am I just unlucky? If I sent my phone back to Three for a replacement would the replacement possibly have a more "standard" MAC address?
Is there any way the MAC address can changed, spoofed etc.?

Update: There was something else wrong with this phone (radio didn't work) so I had to return it to my service provider anyway. The replacement phone had a legal MAC address so all is now well.
I would still be interested in the answers to my questions though if anyone has any wisdom in these matters.

  • Error in Adding Mac Address in WLAN

    Hi,
We have multiple wlan's here in our Company.
Im having trouble with  mac addresses which I registered BEFORE via mac filter
and DELETED it after couple of days.
Right now, I need to register this mac addresses again via MAC Filter but error appears below.
ERROR: User name 'xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx' is already used as a Mac Filter.
Need to specify unique MAC Address across Disabled Clients, AP auth,
Management users, Network users and Mac Filters
What can I do to be able to register the mac addresses that already removed to our WLC???
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

There are two spots that a mac filter is added.  You can only have a mac address in only one of these spots.  Verify that it is not in one of these spots.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • My kid pulled my CP out now getting Illegal MAC address error

So my kid was playing around and pulled the CF out of my 2801 router. It is a router I use at home for testing purposes. Well now I am getting an error Illegal MAC when I try to use rommon to tftpdnld a new IOS. I have also tried xmodem without success. I did read about bad cookies but there wasnt really an answer to the problems presented. Can someone point me in the right place.
    Thanks

So through trail and error I was able to manipulate the cookie to finally work on my machine. This address helped tremendously.
    https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/thread/23693
I did have to make up a MAC address but I used this address http://standards.ieee.org/develop/regauth/oui/oui.txt
to at least get the correct vendor type.
Everything loaded from there. There are so many people who stated it was a compact flash issue. This was not the case at all. It was a corrupt cookie on the mainboard.

  • RSPAN limitations with vtp domain on 6500- 12.2.3(33)SXH5 ERROR DUPLICATED MAC ADDRESS ON TWO VLANS

    Hello everyone,

    My question is:
is compatibile the rspan with 6500 vtp, how i can fixed this problems?
    thank you

Other users from the forums with a similar problem came to a conflict occurring here
    Oct 18 11:52:41 MacBook-Pro opendirectoryd[123]: 2595.39 - ODNodeCreateWithNameAndOptions failed with error 'Unknown node name' (2000)
They say it's some sort of conflict with the language of the installation or is it language keyboard input, then what is meant and how it can be solved I do not understand if this is certainly so.

  • BAT - Dummy MAC address Import error

    Hi,
I am going to use TAPS and I am attempting to add phones via BAT with Dummy MAC address.
I named each device 000000000001, 000000000002 etc. The rest is normal entries.
When i export I check the bnox to use Dummy MAC
I am getting an error that the device is not unique in the lods and no phones are added. I checked and there are no MAC addresses/Phones/DN's with the same values.
    Any advice is welcome.
    Thanks,

  • Invalid MAC Address Format Error

I have a WRT54GR with a 54USB Wireless Adaptor...and I am trying to put my PC MAC Address in the Allow Table so that this is the only MAC Address that can access my network...it is recognising my 54USB Adaptor MAC Address in the Table, so I select this, and add it to the table to allow access, and it comes up with Invalid MAC Address Format....
Anybody know why this is happening...I have tried adding it automatically and typing it in manually still the same.  I use ':' between the numbers/characters not '-'.
    Any help greatly appreciated....
    Thanks
    Smartie27.

Try it in the form  xxxxxxxxxxxx  and see if that works, or maybe just xx xx xx xx xx xx

  • Can't change MAC address of my wireless card on Windows XP

    Dear Forum Members,
I have recently bought a notebook, Lenovo IdeaPad G550L (I haven't found section for the G series here on the forum) and would like to use its WiFi adapter (BCM4310 according to Everest) with explicitly changed MAC address. I installed the recommended driver, available from Lenovo's website, version 5.10.38.14. I tried the common way to change the MAC address, went to Control Panel -> Network Interfaces -> Broadcom Wireless Network Adapter -> Configure... -> Advanced -> Locally administered MAC address, and changed it to a different address (without ":" or any separator characters). Unfortunately this common solution won't work at all. Although, no error messages are produced when changing it (so it seems successful) my wireless router shows me the original MAC address of my integrated wifi card. Tried to restart my computer, my router, everything.
    * Tried different drivers, downloaded a driver from HP which had a separate wireless configurator, Broadcom Wireless Utility. It worked like the driver from Lenovo (except this one hasn't got the utility), but I was still unable to change my MAC address.
    * Tried a different driver from SoftPedia, version 5.10.79.14 (this is newer than Lenovo's), it didn't work either.
    * Tried Nathan True's MACShift utility. It seemed to change the MAC address, but my router showed the original, so it didn't.
    * Tried to look for official Broadcom drivers on www.broadcom.com but found nothing for BCM4310.
    * Finally, I booted my alternative OS, the latest Ubuntu Linux, and used the kernel driver b43 for my wireless adapter. I tried to change my MAC address using the command ifconfig wlan0 hw ether .... and connected to my network. It worked, my router showed the changed MAC so the hardware (or the firmware) is capable of doing this by the right driver/firmware.
I tried to address Broadcom with the issue, sent them a letter like this post they replied that they are not competent, they wrote the following (I guess this was an automatically generated message because it got back in 10 seconds ) from [email protected]:
"As the chipset supplier, Broadcom provides driver support to our customers - the manufacturers of wireless devices - that ultimately provide products to end customers, such as wireless LAN vendors, cable modem vendors, and notebook providers. It is up to these manufacturers to provide product-specific drivers and software support to their end customers. Please contact the manufacturer of your wireless device for their current drivers"
Then I addressed Lenovo with the problem, their answer:
    "Dear ******,
Thank you for contacting Lenovo, the makers of ThinkPad and ThinkCentre products. As I understand, you have purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad G550L and would like to use its WiFi adapter (BCM4310 according to Everest) with explicitly change MAC address.and you would like to know is there an official driver for Windows XP that allows you this basic feature like b43 in Linux. We apologize,Please do speak with our Idea pad technical Team at 877-453-6686 Option 1-2-1-2 for further assistance.
If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at 866-42-THINK (84465) option number 2. We will be happy to assist at that time.
Once again, thank you for contacting Lenovo.
    Sincerely,
    Lenovo Websales/CustServe"
So this means I should call them and spend extra money for phone bill of international calls because of their fault of providing a basic feature that is to be expected from every single wireless card in the market. Should I believe that a guide over the phone is more efficient than a step-by-step solution or a link to an alternative driver? I'm getting kind of disappointed. At least they have understood (or copy-pasted) my problem, dutch comfort though.
Any ideas? Anyone experienced the same problem and solved it? Is there an official (or even unofficial) driver for this device for Windows XP that allows me this basic feature (like b43 in Linux)?
    Thanks in advance,
    str4ngS

Yes, I have posted this thread to different forums after I realized that Lenovo "customer care" is not likely to help me out and even wirelessforums.org members couldn't come up with any ideas for days, that's why. I have already written that helper applications like SMAC (or etherchange or macshift) don't work, because they do the same thing in the system as I change it in the driver panel, so they use the same method which simply does not work.
Locked? Definitely not. If yes, why can I change the MAC of my adapter under Ubuntu Linux using b43 open-source driver if it's really locked? Or you mean it's locked from software, because Lenovo or Broadcom didn't want their users to change their MACs or they just forgot to release a fully-functional driver? Well, then I would like to have a driver in which it's not locked, because this is a basic feature of my adapter of which the hardware is capable.
I have already contacted Broadcom, see their (automatically-generated) answer in my initial post, but I will try to do that again with more foresight.

  • ARP table not populating mac address for previously reachable IP address

Router has been online and working fine with one BGP neighbor for almost 2 years and no downtime.  2 weeks ago, added a 2nd BGP peer.  Everything worked fine for 2 weeks, then all of a sudden yesterday the 2nd BGP peer is disconnected and does not come back.  ISP checks and sees everything looks fine on their end.  We cannot even ping each other now.
Upon investigation, the ARP table is not even populating the MAC address for the BGP peer IP anymore (same local subnet).  Stays "incomplete" in the table no matter what we do, including clearing arp table, changing IP address, etc.
Plug a laptop directly into the 2nd BGP peer FE port and replicate the IP addressing.  Laptop cannot ping Router, but Router CAN ping laptop.  Check ARP table, but STILL no mac address assigned and now not even the ARP table showing "incomplete".
Thinking it could be the FE interface, switch to the 2nd FE interface and perform same laptop test, this time with arbitrary IP addressing.  Now cannot ping each other, no MAC in ARP table.
End up rebooting the router and lo-and-behold, everything is working normally again.  2nd BGP peer peers up instantly.
I should also mention that the 1st BGP peer worked flawlessly throughout, taking all the Internet load and having no issues throughout.
Also, the FE ports for the 2nd BGP peer are on an HWIC FE card plugged into the router.  The 1st BGP peer is plugged into the built-in GE interface.  2901 running: c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.151-4.M4.bin
Lastly, no router resource issues, no error messages, no logs.  Just the BGP peer disconnecting.
I have never, in 20 years working with Cisco routers seen something like this before.  This is the most fundamental aspect of IP and Ethernet that was not working.
Has anyone ever seen this behavior before??

  • Changing MAC address (spoofing)

    Hello,
I want to change the MAC address on a Mac Book Pro running OS X Leopard utilizing the command:
    +sudo ifconfig en0 lladdra 00:11:22:33:44:55+
Even though the command does not give a warning, nor an error message, the MAC is not changed. In Tiger, it the same command did just fine.
How do I enable MAC address Spoofing on OS X Leo? Is there any parameter to send to the Kernel?
    Mh.
For somewhat ever reason, MAC address spoofing for the wireless interface (en1) still seems to work!?
    Makes me fell confused:-)
    Help strongly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Chris

This is how it works on my machine. Note the change of MAC address and because I am using DHCP it changes the IP address also. I have changed the MAC address in this info so as not to use my real one. So I am now running on the new MAC address. It will revert to the original on reboot, you would need a script to change it every time you restart the computer. Not sure why but this does not work on the airport.
This is a nice exercise but why do you would you want to change it?
    regards

  • CNA 5.5 and show mac address-table

When trying to Monitor/Search for MAC address in C2960 network I got an error reply that a CLI command is not supported. Analyzing network traffic shows that CNA 5.5 is issueing 'show mac-address-table' command but the latest Cisco IOS Software, C2960 Software (C2960-LANBASEK9-M), Version 12.2(55)SE does not support 'show mac-address-table' anymore but does support 'show mac address-table' command. How can I change the command for showing mac address tables in CNA 5.5?
    M.

    hi john,
the show mac-address-table command should be valid.
check if you've got MAC learning enabled on the ASA interface using show mac-learn command.
edit: could you post show firewall? the above command works on transparent firewall only.

  • Add .mac address

My wife had a Mobile me account with a .me and a .mac email address. She hadn't been using the .mac address but wants to add it in iCloud so she can receive email at both xxx.me and xxx.mac. How does she do that?

That error suggests that your wife doesn't actually have the @mac.com version.
She would only have the @mac.com address if she was a .mac user (before MobileMe launched in June 2008) and has kept the subscription going (without any lapses) until the end of MobileMe last month.
If she only signed up to MobileMe after June 2008, then she would only have the @me.com version.

  • Need to add MAC address to router

Any ideas on when you get an error message and how I remove the ACL (access control list)
Try to setup the extender on the same room where the router is installed.
    - If MAC Access list of MAC Filtering is enabled on the router, make sure to add the MAC address of the extender.
    - Try to turn off and turn on all of your devices to refresh the network.

What model Fios router do you have?
If it's an Actiontec I belive you cannot do what you are attempting to do as it's not supported on that router
