Error Message 1402

I tried to download Adobe Reader v9.1 but received the Error message 1402 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run.  I have read other posts on this subject and followed the advice given - uninstalling the previous version and downloading Windows Installer Clean Up Utility but still got the same message.  Now I have no PDF reader at all and can't download forms online - so frustrating and inconvenient. My OS is Windows Vista. Another post suggested opening the Registry and doing something with Installer but I can find no such program.  I would welcome any advice. Thank you.

I downloaded this file but could not see a 'Run as adminstrator' option initially and, unsurprisingly, the installation failed.  I then went to Boot(C:) and opened Program Files, but when I right clicked on the Adobe 9.0 program file there was no option to 'Run as Administrator'.  I got the list of options under "Explore", i.e, open, open as notebook, etc.  The program file is not in my list of 'All Programs'.  When I enter "Adobe Reader 9.0" or "Reader 9.0" in the Start menu nothing appears.  The only Adobe program I can run as an administrator is Acrobat, and only Acrobat and Adobe Media Player are in my list of 'All Programs'  (I would also mention there is a Program file 8.0 in my C Drive which I cannot delete - perhaps this is could be the cause of my problem, but if I can't get rid of it I am 'stuffed'.  More help needed, please!

  • Cannot reinstall acrobat x pro; error message 1402

I had acrobat X pro installed, could not update, error message 1402 popped up.  Adobe site suggested uninstalling Acrobat and reinstalling, uninstalled, tried to reinstall but with 57 seoncds left of reinstallation error message 1402 appeared and installation was backed out.  I went from not being able to update to not having the program on my machine at all.  How can I reinstall?

Here is one suggestion: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/error-1402-error-1406-acrobat.html. What I suggest it to follow the instructions to uninstall all versions. Then run the cleaner (http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html) and remove any part left of the Acrobat folder (typically in Program Folders>Adobe). Reboot as the administrator and disable anti-virus. Then try the install.

note carefully that the technique involves a registry edit. be sure to make a backup of any keys you edit. if you're unfamiliar with your registry or registry editing, head to your XP help and support, do a search on registry, and read through the articles that come up.
There are also some instructions on how to back up registry keys in the following document:

  • Everytime I try to update I get a1402 error message

Every time I try to update my Adobe Reader 9 to 10 I get this error message: Error 1402  "Could not open key. Verify that you have sufficent access to that key". What does this mean? How do I get access to the key?

This is directly from Adobe Support KB
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/329/329137.html
Basically, uninstall, reboot, reinstall the newer version.
One or more of your registry keys is honked.
If the regular Add / Remove programs doesn't remove all of it, use msicuu2.exe you can download it from Microsoft.
This will remove all Adobe entries and registry keys.  Then just do a fresh install.

  • Please help! Error messages -3, -1603, Internal error 2318 during download

Hello! I have been having trouble with itunes for quite some time now. When I download the itunes/QT package, the download stops near the end and gives me the 'Error Code: -3 QuickTime failed to install' message. I have uninstalled an reinstalled countless times and I'm going crazy! I have already tried:
    - downloading the standalone Quicktime
    - Disabling my security/firewall/virus protection
    - Deleting Windows Update KB908531
    - Using the windows install cleanup
    - Clearing my Temp files
I have looked through the forum and I have not seen any threads by someone with the same problem. I'm NOT getting error 1402. Any suggestions??
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Dell Dimension 4700   Windows XP

This error message shouldn't appear while downloading iTunes/QT. Have you chosen to directly execute the downloaded file?
I don't know if it might help, but you could try to first save the package to disk and then running the installer, i.e. after the download has completed.
Are you using a 32bit or a 64bit version of Win XP? The issue often discussed here (the conflict with the Windows Security Update you removed) only occured with 64Bit windows, afaik.
I'm afraid I don't remember the errorcode I used to get when the QT installation failed.

  • Windows Vista: Ipod Error Message, no longer read by PCs

    Hello,
I have a 5th generation black ipod video with 30GB of memory.
The other day I hooked it up to my laptop (Toshiba, 4 months old) that it's been functioning on with no problems whatsoever. This weird error message flashed twice about it not being able to sync because of some software problem.
Eversince then, the only thing I can charge my ipod on is the family treadmill in the basement (~_~) as no other computer in the house recognizes it. I can't even charge it through the wall sockets, either.
I have changed the ipod cord, still no luck. I've also reset the device about 3 or 4 times and uninstalled, restarted the laptop then reinstalled itunes. I would like to reset it back to factory settings but that's impossible as computers/laptops don't pick it up. I live very far from a Mac store...
What's a girl to do? I can't live without my Busta Rhymes and Wu-Tang Clan!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
