Error message 1418

Hi there, I am currently stuck in a cycle of restoring my iPod, and not getting very far as each time I get a message saying "unable to restore iPod error 1418". I have tried the fix recommended in this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304996
but I still get exactly the same message. Any ideas??

Hi John,
And have you seen this article?:

  • Error message 1418 ... I need your help please!!!!

I cannot connect my shuffle because is not recognized (in Win explorator) and when i try to copy music, i have an error message saying "the ipod cannot updated. REad and write are impossible on this disk..."
    Someone have an idea ??
PS: i already install the new version of Itunes (7.0.2)

As per your question it appears that your requirement is
    1. Define a earning which is dependent on Grade of the employee .
    2. Define a deduction which is percentage of total earning .
    3. Define an IR which is an earning ( I assume , though its not clear from your requirement ) .
    Step 1.
You can Write a fast formula which returns the value to be paid based on the assignments current Grade ( Use formula function for returning the required value ).
    Step 2 .
Attach the Fast formula created in step 1 with ann_sal and make a return the result as Direct Result in the "Pay Value" of ann_sal
    Step 3.
As per Oracle priority of earnings should be greater than that of deduction deduction hence we need to process "IR" before the deduction so that taxes are calculated correctly.
But make sure that the priority of IR is lesser than the priority of other earning element so that it can be calculated once all the earning elements are calculated.
    Step 4
Write a fast formula in which you calculate Assur as per your business requirement
Now do calculations for IR as per your algorithm .
    Return the calculated value .
    Step 5 .
Attach formula created in step 4 to IR and make a return the result as Direct Result in the "Pay Value" of IR
    Step 6.
Now write one more fast formula to calculate assur .
Use "_ASG_RUN" as the balance dimension in the fast formula to get dbi values. You can refer any seeded formula .
Now associate the formula with the deduction.
    Hope it helps.

  • Ipod Error message 1418

Does anyone know how to fix Error 1418 iPod Corrupt ? I try using different USB hubs, turning the Computer off, re-intalling the Itunes. Both of my Ipod work find with my HP laptop ( Windows XP program ). I recently bought a new HP Desktop. I needed more room for my music and a faster computer. I downloaded iTunes to my desktop and tranfer all my music from my Laptop. I connected my iPods to my new computer and all i keep getting is this 1418 error, corrupt Ipod. I was able to get one of the Ipod to start down loading the music but in the middle of the sync it just stop and gave me the same error. I disconnect the iPod and try connecting it again and the same 1418 error came again. I try intalling the original Ipod CD that came with the iPod so I could use the iPod updater program. Upon downloading the program I try using it to restore the iPod but all I got was a Invalid Ipod service version.

  • Please help: An unknown error occurred (1418)

I have several iPods and have used them basically trouble-free for years. Last night though, my 1st Generation ipod, after coming home after being away for a month, "died" after synching to my mac-mini. I went through the 5 Rs, but have no success in retsoring the Nano even to the original settings. The restore process via iTunes fails, giving the error message 1418. The unit has not been dropped or abused, but the only thing that has changed is an update to itunes and quick time on the mac mini. Any help is appreciated, as it appears my warranty expired while on vacation....

  • The way I deal with error message 1417, 1418 and 1428

Firstly, sorry for my poor English, but I would like to share with you my experience, and hope that it may helps you.
Since the release and update of iTunes 7, I have not faced any problem, but I heard a lot of articles from this forum about the errors 1417, 1418, 1428 and 50 etc. I could not make any suggestion and find a solution about it, all I could do is to copy some threads from some successful cases mentioned on this forum.
Until yesterday, I finally received a 4th Gen 20GB iPod (around 2 years old)from a friend and asked me whether I could fix it for him, which has been left untouched as a paper-weight for almost 2 months.
I tried to turn it on, and the screen was completed blank and the device looked dead. Before doing anything I prepared the following:-
    1. A window based PC
    2. A Mac computer
    3. An USB iPod cable
    4. A Firewire iPod cable
    5. An iPod AC charger
As the iPod was previously formatted on a PC, therefore I tried to plug it with a PC via USB cable, it did not response and not able to get recognized by the PC. I ejected the iPod and connected with an AC charger, after a few minutes, I did a Reset for the iPod
    How to reset iPod
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705
The iPod showed an Apple sign, it stuck there for almost a minute, the screen then showed a battery with an exclamation mark sign, and after a minute, the iPod turned off itself. I was sure that the iPod carried very low battery, and could not be charged by connecting it with any computer (both Mac and PC).
I decided to let it have a charge with an AC charger for a bit longer, after 10 minute I did the Reset again, this time a sign of folder with exclamation mark showed up after the Apple sign, and again could not get recognized by a computer.
I changed my mind, and put the iPod into disk mode
    Putting iPod into disk mode
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Instead of connecting with a PC, I plug it with my Mac using a Firewire cable, it did not response, so I switched the cable to an USB, interestingly, the iPod got recognized and a window pop up indicating that the iPod needed to do a Restore. Therefore I clicked “Restore”, after a few seconds, an Error message pop-up with Error Message 1417, the sign that I have been waiting for quite sometime.
I ejected the iPod and the screen immediately showed a folder exclamation mark (a sign indicating a corrupted or a failure iPod OS). I am forced to put the iPod into disk mode again, connected with the Mac computer and open the Disk Utility
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
It managed to complete the Restore process, and started to sync with the iTunes. However, it got stuck at the song no.238 from the total of 2000. I left it for an hour, but with no process, instead the iPod became “Hot” and the iTunes showed an Error message of 1428. I ejected the iPod from my Mac computer, the iPod’s screen turn to show the famous killer icon;“The Sad iPod“.
This time it was totally dead, even failed to put it into Disk Mode and non of the computer could recognize it. Sigh, I hated to do it but I knew that I must did the following:-
Holding the iPod in my Palm, and hitting it on a surface of a Sofa with 5 attempts.
Did not surprise me, the iPod turned on and it showed the Language Menu on the screen. So, I put it into Disk Mode and connected with my window PC.
The PC showed a sign and indicated that an USB device had been connected with it. I opened the iTunes and did a Restore there.
However, an Error Message 50 showed up, but I were not worried about it, connected it back with my Mac computer with it in Disk Mode. As expected the iTunes opened and allowed me to do a Restore there.
This time it managed to complete the process and a window of register pop up. After the completed the process, the iPod started to sync with the iTunes again, which finally managed to complete the process.
I left it connecting with the AC charger overnight. In the next morning, I switched it on and have a play with it, I am so glad as it is working like a charm.
From the above experience, I would like to share it with the user the following:-
    1. It always better to charge with an ac charger instead of the computer, as when an iPod carrying with very low battery, it may not able to get charge from a computer
    2. Try to connect the iPod with a computer, switching between USB and Firewire
    3. Try to format an iPod with HD problem, with a different kind of computer e.g. Mac or PC, as the formats are totally different, the way it formats may able to solve the bad sectors on the HD
    4. It may get better chance to get your iPod recognized, if you put it in Disk Mode
I hope the following works in your case as I did.

a pop up error message says itunes couldnt be configured
I'd like to have a closer look at that error message please.
Generate the error message again. While the error message box is open, hold down the Alt key and hit the PrtSc key. Paste the screenshot into an image file (using a program like Paint), and save the file.
Start a reply here and click the wee camera icon at the top of the reply window. Click "Choose file", browse to the image file, select the file and click "Open". Now click "Insert file" to insert the screenshot into the reply.

  • Error Message "Ipod cannot be restored (1418)"

    Hi,
Yesterday my Ipod Shuffle which I already have for over a year, started blinking an orange and a green light. I never experienced this before, and when I connected my Ipod Shuffle to my computer it said (translated from dutch): "iTunes found an iPod that is most likely damaged. It is possible that you need to restore this iPod before you can use it with windows."
Well so I click restore in iTunes.. after a while it says "The Ipod cannot be restored. An unknown error occured. (1418)" Translated from dutch.
Does anyone knows a solution for this problem, I'd really appreciate it cos I use my iPod every day and my day doesn't gets any better without it.
    Thanks a lot!
    Reg,
    Me.
    My warranty's expired btw.

    Hi julianrood!
Haev you tried the solution someone found in this post? -> A possible solution for errors 1417 and 1418
Also, in this same forum, have you tried checking out this possibility? -> When getting error 1418, try USB port in the back

  • 1418 error message

My 20g iPod just died. After working trouble free for nearly two years, I've had nothing but niggling issues with it for the last 6 weeks or so. Lots of restoring, coming here to learn about possible fixes, three trips to the Apple store to consult the guys at the genius bar. Each time I got it up and running again.
Yesterday, it crashed again. I got the folder/exclamation point screen and prepared, once again, to retore it. But this time, nothing. I got the 1418 error message telling me that something is corrupted and that it cannot be restored.
I don't know what to do. I've downloaded all the new software and tried everything anyone has suggested.
It appears that the dreaded 1418 error message has been popping up more and more ever since Apple introduced some new software in September. I'm one of those users who never had problems of any kind until September and ever since then, my iPod's been unstable and crash-prone.
What do I do? Is it fixable if I bring it to an Apple store for service?
    Thanks.

    Bumping my own question . . .
I've googled around to find a few more possible solutions to the 1418 error message problem which I will try.
But given how many others are experiencing the same problem, it seems like what we really need is a global solution from Apple directly, a software patch that solves the problem without all this trial-and-erroring with ever diminishing hope that one will work.
Come on, Apple, you're a better company than this.

  • Cannot update iPod 5G, error message appears.

When I try to update my 30GB iPod, it always displays an error message saying, "The iPod cannot be updated. An unknown error occured (1417)."
Does anybody know what this means and how to solve it?

Some people have had success trying the fix mentioned here.
    Error 1417/1418.
Could you also take some time to pass some information for the Apple Engineers?  Please copy and paste these questions into an email, make the subject of the email "iPod error report", add your answers, and send the email to Roy at Apple.
    1. What error code are you seeing?
    2. When are you seeing it (restoring or updating your iPod)?
    3. Which iPod do you have?
    4. What version of Windows do you have?
    5. What Windows service pack do you have installed?

  • Can't Restore Ipod...error message

I presume I need to restore my 5th gen Ipod as I can't sync it with itunes. However I also can't restore it.
I get a 1418 error message, also had a -50 error message too.
It has worked once since i got it, i synced it with a mates computer. But I can't get it to sync with my new comp at all.
This is very frustrating as i've not been albe to use it at all. Its just a pretty external hard drive at the mo!
I take it formatting it with windows would be a very bad idea?

I HAVE A 20G IPOD THAT IS 1YEAR AND 10 MONTHS OLD. IT WILL NOT RESTORE ANYLONGER AND SHOWS THE SAD IPOD ICON. I WANTED TO SEND IT IN FOR REPAIRS BUT BECAUSE IT IS PAST THE 1 YEAR WARRANTY ALL IPOD WILL DO FOR ME IS SELL ME A REFURBISHED IPOD FOR $271.94. IPOD SHOULD RECALL THE IPODS THAT ARE FREEZING AND SKIPPING SONGS THAT ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO BE RESTORED. I CANNOT FIND ANYONE TO REPAIR MY IPOD OTHER THAN APPLE JUST WANTING ME TO BUY A REFURBISHED ONE THAT COSTS ABOUT $30 LESS THAN THE BRAND NEW ONE I BOUGHT 1YEAR AND 10 MONTHS AGO. I AM VERY DISSAPPOINTED WITH APPLE IPOD AND I WILL NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS AGAIN.

  • Ipod shuffle error message

I keep trying to put music on my suffle but i does not seem to work everytime i try to put music on it i get a error message that says cannot be updated cannot be read from or written to. I am lost I got this for my sister and it can not get it to work right...I just need some help..itunes reads the shuffle..I tried the r's but it will not work right..oh n everytime i try to use it it will freeeze up my itunes nothing else. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Apple has not completely fixed this issue. I am getting the 1418 too when I try to update my Shuffle on Mac. I downloaded the Shuffle reset utility, and when I try to restore using this utility, I get a message dialog that says "Reset failure -- There was a problem obtaining information from your iPod."
I highly doubt that what is being conveyed in support docs is the totality of the issue. According to these docs, I need to return my Shuffle for servicing. I have a few problems with this though:
    1) I've never had a problem with my Shuffle on Mac, until I tried to apply the latest update. I can STILL play songs and update songs just fine.
    2) My shuffle works perfectly on Windows. I plugged my Shuffle into Windows, formatted it, opened up iTunes, was able to successfully restore and update my shuffle, and move songs to my shuffle. The problem is, my iTunes library is on my Mac (and will stay there, due to its size), not on my PC.
    3) After updating on PC, I moved my Shuffle back to my Mac, where it is recognized fine, including the latest version of the software -- so it recognizes that my Shuffle is using software version 1.1.5. I can update songs on my Mac, But if I try to restore my Shuffle on Mac again, I get the 1418 error again, and have the same experience when trying to use the Shuffle update utility.
I have a hard time believing that this is anything but a software bug on OS X, and I'm having a hard time believing that when my Shuffle otherwise works perfectly on both platforms, and there was no sign of a problem until this latest update appeared, that my hardware is defective. This sounds more like a problem that Apple has an easier time fixing by swapping out hardware, rather than fixing via software, which I otherwise wouldn't care about, if it didn't cost me $30 to do, and I hadn't already gone through 3 40GB iPods in a 2 year span because the battery life was so bad.
If anyone from Apple is reading this, I'd appreciate a fix for OS X.
    Thanks,
    Brad

  • Weird playlist/ERROR message/won't sync songs/won't restore!

I just ran out of room on my ipod, and something came up saying do you want to create some playlist? I'm not sure exactly what it said, but it was so I can make more room on it. I went through my library and deleted songs I didn't want anymore and I deleted this playlist that my Itunes made by itself. I added my new songs, tried updating my ipod and it won't sync the songs. It says "Songs on the Ipod cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist." I tried restoring it, but another error came up. Nothing works.
Any ideas? Or do I have to take it in to the Apple Store?

I assume you have seen this article regarding this error message.
    iPod: Cannot restore or update in iTunes with error 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429, 1430, 1436, or 1439
It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.
