Error message as soon as vista boots to desktop

Whenever I reboot my R61i 8932-9UM laptop, running pre-load Vista Home Premium, as soon as the desktop appears, I get an error message stating" On Screen Display message generator for Thinkpad has stopped working. Windows will now close the program"
What is causing this, and how to I fix or disable the error message? As I cannot connect to lenovo support [see other forum post] I cannot check or diagnose using the web.

Try to uninstall the On Screen Display software on the computer.

  • Error Message Reboot and select proper boot device: C50-B-13N

    Hello All,
My recently-purchased C50-B-13N laptop was installing 39 updates yesterday, when it crashed.
Re-starting trapped me into a continual loop. Following what appeared to be the logical approach to reset the factory settings, I
appear to have accidentally deleted the data on the drive.
I now repeatedly received the error message "Reboot and select proper boot device".
I've tried the F12 approach to <HDD recovery>, but my Boot Menu doesn't state this option.
I'm frustrated that the new laptop was performing so poorly, given I've had Toshiba devices for ~10 years. Additionally, I'm disappointed that the potentially serious implications of deleting the drive <even accidentally> were not clearly advised to me, before commencing.
    Please advise a solution.
The laptop is 4 months old, so presumably, is covered by warranty.
An unhappy customer experience, thus far.

    DG.

If you failed to create recovery media, you may need to order it from Toshiba.

  • First Generation Ipod Nano gives error message when using Windows Vista

I have a dual boot PC running XP Home and Vista Home Premium. My three kids have Ipod Nanos. Each kid has their own user profile on the PC. The later generation Nanos (2) work with Vista perfectly.
The first generation Nano causes an error message when you connect the Ipod to the PC while running Vista. If you run the XP and associate the Nano with XP everything syncs perfectly with no error messages.
Conclusion: Early Nanos work with XP, but do not function properly with Vista.
Request of Apple INC. - Fix this to work with Vista, or send me a new Ipod free of charge.

All of the following programs should work with Vista.
Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.

  • Error message, failed Maverick installation during boot up

    Hi guys,
I have a MBP Retina mid 2012, running 10.8.5 and tried to update to Maverick. Downloaded the installer fine but once I restarted, it got the below error messages and after rebooting itself 2-3 times it just got stuck and I had to reboot in recovery from my harddrive with mountain lion.
Anyone experiencing the same? I tried the Apple hotline but they are also clueless at this point. We tried reinstalling Lion and then installing Maverick again, same result. I removed the initial installer and downloaded a new version, same result.
    Any ideas?

    /dev/discs/disc0/part1 /boot ext2 defaults 0 1
    /dev/discs/disc0/part2 swap swap defaults 0 0
I had this problem when i installed arch to, is it the installer that does it?

  • "Inaccessible boot device" error message when I try to boot up.

Greetings, I recently upgraded to Windows 10, and I wanted to do a factory reset yesterday. I did this, and when it tried to boot up after it was finished I got the error message "Inaccessible boot device", and then my computer kept on restarting itself over and over, and never getting into the OS properly. I am using a Portege R705-P35. I tried searching for the device drivers to install on a USB and booting from this, but my computer could not boot from this properly.  So i believe my problem is related to the device driver. What is the exact driver I need to boot up? I checked the Toshiba site and there was a list of about 25 drivers for my PC, and I'm not sure which would work.  All help is greatly appreciated on this

I have excatly the same issue on my WT8-A.  I have been running Windows 10 as an Insider for months on the device, and after RTM decided to do a full reset.  I now get the same message as the OP saying "INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE" I now have an unusabe device.  Please help.

  • Error Message: Reboot and Select proper Boot device.

My HP desktop computer (model p6654y) will not boot directly into Windows.
I can ALWAYS make it boot into Windows by first pressing the F10 key to enter the BIOS. If I then exit the BIOS (without even making any changes), the computer will boot into Windows.
If I don't first enter the BIOS, the computer will USUALLY take me to a black screen that says:
"Reboot and Select proper Boot device. Or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key."
At this point it won't boot any further.
Also, the last message the BIOS displays (before the error) is:
"00 USB mass storage devices found and configured".
After that, all of the lines of text on the screen move up one level and then the screen goes black and soon after I get the Proper Boot Device error.
I do not have anything plugged into USB ports except an ordinary mouse and ordinary keyboard (both of which I changed - in case they were faulty).
My BIOS is set to boot from the Hard Drive first.
    I reset my CMOS.
I do not have a CD in the CD drive.
It used to be that this would ALWAYS happen if I (1) Turned off the Computer, (2) Unplugged it for 60 seconds, (3) Plugged it back in, and (4) Turned it on.  Now (after trying various things), it only SOMETIMES happens when I do this.
    Any ideas?

    Hello @GardenGuy1,
I have read your post on how your desktop computer is having a difficult time booting into Windows, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To further diagnose this issue, I recommend testing the health of your system's hard drive by following the steps in this document on Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7). If the hard drive is found to be in good working order, I also suggest restoring your BIOS back to factory settings. This can be done by following this document on Recovering the BIOS.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • A6518f Pavilion unable to boot up without error messages or asking to insert boot disk

My HP a6518f Pavilion running Vista 32-bit has stopped starting up properly. I install software from time to time, though I am not sure what software might be causing the problem. ( However, I seem to have had more trouble since I downloaded a zip file opening program)
When I start up my computer, I am lucky to receive a blue screen that reads ...
                           " Driver_IRQL_NOT_less_OR _Equal
If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Make sure any new hardware or software is properly
installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware
or software manufacturer for any Windows updates
                          you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly
included hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory
options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable
components restart your computer, press F8 to select
advanced startup options, and then select Safe Mode."
I have gotten the above screen a few times.
I really have no idea how to do any of the above. I do not know what software
might be causing my trouble, I am not sure how to disable BIOS memory etc. ,
though I have managed to select Safe Mode.
My current problem is on top of other accumulating problems I have had with this computer.
When I ran a computer diagnostics on it, there was a problem with the hard drive (an error about
the  Smart something). I have received warnings (yellow exclamations marks for some of the Windows drivers, when I tried to update them they would not update.
My computer is often unable to go through the startup cycle without asking me to insert the boot disk.
Sometimes when I am able to get a clean startup, the computer is able to work for a while without trouble, though this has become increasingly infrequent.
I am very unsure what to do. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jcan, normally 'smart' errors encountered means that the HDD is going to fail soon - you should immediately backup your work, create your recovery discs, replace the hdd (and at the same time blow all the dust out of your system) and recover the unit.
You should be aware that the newer AF HDD's may not suit this system, you should purchase the older type HDD that will support 32bit OS's.
    regards davida

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post:
