Error Message Cannot eject ipod shuffle
Hi. I would appreciate any help possible. I just received an ipod shuffle as a gift. I cannot get it to play anything whatsoever. An error message I receive provides a possible clue to the problem, however. Whenever I try to eject the ipod shuffle, I receive an error message stating the ipod "cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application." No application, other than iTunes, is running.

select ipod from the itunes source menu (on the lefthand side, w/ ipod icon). Click the Eject iPod button in the lower right corner of the iTunes window. when it has been succesfully disconnected you should get a msg that it is ok to disconnect on the itunes screen.
If it still appears, it is ok to disconnect, then simply reset it by turning it off, wait 5 seconds, and back on. This will save anything you may have on it.

Easy way. Reset the iPod, then disconnect when you see the Apple logo.
Another way. Hold ctr-alt-del to bring up the Windows Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and look for iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe. Select them and hit the End Process button. Close the Windows Task Manager Window and try ejecting the iPod via the safely remove hardware method.
If you are still having problems you can try one more thing. Right click on the My Computer icon and select Manage from the list of actions. Go to the Services and Applications item and from there the services item. Double click on the services item to bring up the list of services currently installed on your computer. Look for the iPod Service and double click on it. From the new window select Stop. Now try again to eject using the safely remove hardware option.
Some anti-virus security software (particularly McAfee) can also cause a problem, and if you have this you might want to try turning it off and see if the iPod then ejects correctly. -
Error message - cannot sync ipod
I am getting the following error message "The ipod "my name" ipod cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found." I downloaded the newest version of iTunes 7.0 today. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

My iPod touch 4th gen. Keeps giving me the error message "cannot connect to the app store when I sign in. I can open the app store and browse it but I can't download anything. I have full signal strength with my wi-fi and safari is working perfect. I turned it off and restarted it 3 times now. I have an iPad 2 and the app store works flawlessly with it. What is going on?
Same here on my lpad2. Can access the web just fine from browsers but cannot install new apps or updates in appl store. Seeing a few others reporting same issue tonight so likely an apple server issue and staff will notice it in network monitors and fix it...sometime this weekend.

Updating ipod touch to os5.1 got an error message "cannot connect the ipod touch because the pairing record is missing" don't know what this means or how to fix but am stuck, only option is to answer ok and close the error box. Any ideas?

I tried to restore my 120 gb iPod and got an error 1413 message - "cannot restore iPod". I started to reset turning the hold switch on and off and now my iPod seems to be permanently locked. I had been having trouble syncing music, When I tried to sync, iTunes said it didn't recognize my iPod, even though I was on the iPod page in iTunes which showed the model number and the serial number of my iPod
I am having essentialy the same problem, but my iPod came from a PC and is now on a PC. The person who gave me the iPod didn't give me the wall adapter piece, so I bought a "Griffin" brand that was said to be compatible with this model. When I first plugged it into the wall, the Apple appeared with a bar underneath as though it was loading the new software. When the bar got to the end, the "plug into the wall" icon reappeared, but when I plug it in to the wall now, that icon is the only thing that shows, even after resetting and trying to run diagnostics.
When I doc the iPod on a charger I have or plug the USB into my computer and "reset" it, a battery with a charge icon appears, but there is no "motion" in the icon so it doesn't appear to be charging. The screen eventually goes back to the apple then to the "plug it into the wall" icon. HELP!!! Is is possible the wall adapters isn't the right one? Should I be charging through a firewire cable instead (which I also don't have...)?

I keep getting an error message saying "This iPod cannot be used because Apple Mobile Device service is not started" and i have no idea what that means so any help will be much appreciated, i just want to add more of my music on it
I got that message yesterday. I'm new at this so don't know if this is the correct solution but it worked for me. I reset my iPod by holding the 2 buttons down until the apple appears AND I restarted my computer. After that everything worked.

My iPod classic won't synch from iTunes. This is a recent problem. The error message reads "The iPod cannot be synched. An unknown error occurred (-39)." can anyone help me try to figure out whyall 3 of my devices jsut stopped beign acceptd on my itunes? ipod touch, nano 6th gen and ipad. none of them will be read on my itunes, yes i have uninstalled and re installed my itunes and plugged and unpluggd the devices and i have reset them numerous times. so what next?

Nothing else is open - I cannot figure this out. The only thing I can think if is that some of the songs came off another hard drive. Any clues?This message appears often to me, too. When it happens, you could try playing a song in iTunes (even better if you play a song or video by clicking on the file itself, not by choosing it in the iTunes library). Another way is resetting your iPod (holding the central and menu buttons toghether) while still connected to your computer. I'm having tonnes of problems with my ipod and itunes:
1. I just bought a brand new macbook, and wanted to put all the music from my ipod onto my macbook, So i followed the directions on here for how to do that. incidentally, it did not work, and i was prompt to do nothing else but restore my ipod. Now that i've restored my ipod i can't sync songs from my Macbook to my ipod, and message occurs say " Attempting to copy to disk "LAUR'S IPOD" failed, device could not be read from or written to" The same message occurs on my home PC with windows. I have the latest version of itunes, the latest software on my mac, i've called 1800 they couldnt help, My ipod is still recognized by my computers, and still charges, it just doesnt sync, i've also tried deleting damaged music files too. I've restored my ipod about 3 times and still no luck.
2.I also can never eject my ipod, a message occurs saying " cannot eject ipod, try closing applications first" and there are no other apps open. WHY IS THIS SO HARD!

Also you might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...

HUGE Error Message When Syncing IPod!!!
alright well first of all i have the new nano 4G ipod. Recently i added a TON of new songs, and apparantly i went over the size limit that my ipod could hold. In other words I had more songs on my itunes library than could fit into my ipod. I found this out when I tried to sync my ipod after adding all of these new songs. This is the error message I got: "ipod cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist"
Now it gave me a temporary playlist before but i accidentally deleted so now I get this message. I really really really need help is there anything at all i can do I'm seriously going to die if this doesn't work soon =[You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod and then the playlist it has been updating from is deleted. Most people use this setting when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library. If your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod, iTunes by default makes a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod". If you for any reason delete it, you will not be able to sync your iPod.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in Sources. You can make this a normal playlist and drag whatever you want to it or you can make it a random Smart playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano). Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:

To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection -
