"Error Message. Codec missing or unavailable." Help?
Hi,
I currently have a problem that I'm in need of assistance with regarding importing video into Premiere Pro CS5 on a Windows Vista (64bit) PC. I'm a new user of CS5 so I'm not completely familiar with everything yet, but I'm a fairly competent user of Final Cut Pro on MACs.
My problem is that when I attempt to import my video files into Premiere, I am given an error message saying "Error Message. Codec missing or unavailable.". I can see on the forums that this has happened to people before, but unfortunately, the solutions I have read can't help my situation because I don't currently have access to FCP to edit the footage as an alternative and only have access to CS5 on a PC to edit so I really need the files to work.
The video files I'm wanting to import are .mov HD files which were captured using FCP on a MAC. The footage was shot in HD 1080i on DV tape using Sony Z1 and Z5 cameras and captured (using a tape deck and FCP's Log & Capture) under the settings of HDV 1080i and 25fps.
The raw .mov files were then transferred to my PC for editing on Premiere and then this is where I have the problem with the codec error...
If anyone can explain to me why the files aren't working or can offer any solutions or advice on how to get them working with Premiere, it will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Dan.
Hi Harm,
Thanks for the quick response. Can you expand on what you mean by converting to standard HDV? Sorry if it seems like a dumb question...
Thanks.

Premiere Pro CS6 Error Message Codec Missing or unavailable?
I know there is already a thread about this... but I couldn't figure out how to add to that thread. I have been googling for like 2 hours and get this figured out! Sorry if this is a silly question, I am very new!
A videographer sent my company a hard drive with video footage he took from our event. I need to split these clips up and import them to Premiere Pro.
Here is all my info:
Premiere Pro 6.0.2 just updated about an hour ago-
Mac OS X 10.7.5
I am trying to import and edit footage a video-ographer gave my company from an event. He sent it to us on an external hard drive. I am not sure what kind of camera he used.
I have downloaded RedCode or whatever. Updated Premiere Pro.
The file type is .mov. It plays fine in Quick Time 10, but only the sound plays in Quick Time Pro 7.
The Codecs for this file are MPEG-2 AND LINEAR PCM, TIMECODE
I also need to split these clips into smaller clips before importing into Premiere Pro, the clips are all between 8-11GB, if you want to help me with that too.I had the same issue after I re-installed both Mountain Lion and Adobe products. MOV (XDCAM) media was not reading on Premiere Pro CS6. "Codec Missing or Unavailable" kept prompting. Following ComputerNovice25 advice did not do the trick for this problem. But, I was able to fix issue by simply updating my OS. A ProApps Quicktime Codecs 1.0 was included in the update, which added the following video codecs for Quicktime-based applications:
Apple Intermediate Codec
Apple ProRes
AVC-Intra
DVCPRO HD
HDV
XDCAM HD / EX / HD422
MPEG IMX
Uncompressed 4:2:2
This update is highly recommended for all users running any MacOSX and any type of NLE.
Hope this helps. -
Premiere CS5 not importing .mov files - codec missing or unavailable
Hi,
I'm on a Windows 7 PC running Premiere Pro CS5. Have encountered a problem with .mov files that I haven't had before. I recently received three files from a shoot at a local tv station. They are .mov files and I believe they are in an XD CAM wrapper or format. I've gotten files from this station before and have imported them with no trouble (not sure if the earlier files were XD CAM, though). When I try to import, I get the error message: Codec missing or unavailable. Would using the Prism video convertor to convert to another format be the way to go? The file sizes range from 7.18 GB to 14.9 GB. Thanks in advance. Here's more info on the above clip:

Premiere Elements 10 ... When trying to import .mov files directly from the source, error message says, "codecs missing or unavailable". So I'm stuck.
I have no experience working with a Zoom cam. But sometimes it helps if you install the camcorder's software on your computer. This can install the necessary codecs. (And, of course, make sure you have the latest version of Quicktime, per the program's requirements.)
Most likely the cam shoots in a proprietary MP4 codec. So starting a new project and setting it up for Flip cam video might also activate the necessary codecs.
If it still won't go, then version may not have the ability to interface with this camcorder's footage. -
HI
I have been trying to get my new iphone activated all day and I keep getting the error message saying "activation server unavailable". I've been trying all day nothing's happening...have Apple got server issues, this was after I tried to update my phone to IOS5.
Desperate to play with my new toy but am at a loss!!!
LouiseLooks like you r not alone, few more people with at&T can't activate. If memory serves right same happened first week iPhone 4s came out. Just too many people activating their toys. I d probably try to do it at 2 or 3 in the morning. Sorry.

Premiere CS4 - AVCHD - Codec missing or unavailable
Recently received captured footage from a Panasonic HDV camcorder captured onto a Mac. I am using Production Premium with Premiere Pro CS4. When I attempt to import the .mov files, they are black screen with no audio either.
I did a quick search on the net to see if CS4 supports AVCHD files and apparently it does. Seemingly also since it lists them as an available format when creating the project intially.
When I attempt to import the files, I get the "Codec missing or unavailable" error. I also receive an error when I try to open the file to view it in QuickTime. I have the latest version of QuickTime and am running on a Vista 64 bit system currently.
If CS4 lists the AVCHD format, should it also not support the files?
Do I have to convert the files in some way?
Is there a specific codec that may have not been installed when I installed the studio?
Since the program itself is up to date, is there another codec from Adobe that is required?
Thanks in advance for any assistance...
DonThanks for all the help thus far.
I did install GSpot and tested a video sample from the captured file. The Codec was listed as "hdv4" and the Video as "<unknown>". It's 1280 X720 and identified as .MOV/QT.
Listing the CODECs and other FILTERS gives me a list of "File Missing" items which all reference MainConcept(Adobe2) ... included below.
We did (years ago) purchase Main Concepts product for video. I thought that became redundant once Adobe started including their decoders within the their products. That is why I initially believed that there was a problem with the installation of the Adobe Production Premium product.
Do I need to upgrade or re-purchase the MainConcept product for this?
Does this seem like a reinstall issue for Production Studio CS4?
Recently, I am finding that I am ending up with more Mac based camcorder captures for editing. A lot of times these people have a consumer or low-end prosumer camcorder and a Mac laptop or whatnot and consider themselves "videographers". These people do not know how to capture in any other format than to "plug it in and capture" and many times don't have any idea about CODECs and formats. Many times, its the AVCHD format that has issues. I can either spend the money on a card (or whatever) reader and and attempt to capture it myself, or get my system updated to corrrectly read these (which I would prefer).
I've used Mac systems since the first one came out in 1984 and stopped using them when work dictated a PC format and Premiere (Macs really were not Movie producing until they bought Final Cut from Macromedia anyhow, ... they were Printing and graphic based systems before that). I'm "fully fluent" in most all things Mac because we have a couple of recent Mac with OSX at the office for graphics (no Final Cut Pro), I just dont have home access to a Mac at this time.
As far as the type of camcorder and format ... I was told it was a Panasonic .. I just (like always) received the captured footage ... from someone with a Mac.

Is it possible to shoot in quicktime mode on the JVC GY-HM100U and edit the files in Premiere CS3 for PC? If so, how?
I keep getting the "Codec missing or unavailable" message.
Thank you for your help!Another program I like for doing some video/audio sleuthing is MediaInfo. It's not as powerful as GSpot (I mean... what is?) but it formats the data in a fashion that I think makes it a little more readily usable. It works with just about every kind of video and audio file I've ever thrown at it, and is regularly updated.
I don't know the camera, unfortunately, so I'm merely going on what that post I linked to suggested. I had just recalled someone mentioning a JVC (*coughjunkvideocrapcough*) camcorder a couple of days ago...
PS: just teasing about the JVC thing... -
Codec Missing or Unavailable.
PLEASE don't point me to another page elsewhere, as I think I've read everything on the internet on this. Please don't tell me to reinstall because 1 that's a ridiculous "solution" and 2 It's a work machine so I'd have to get them to do it and I need this finished TODAY
I'm very late finishing a short film because my colleague sent me video taken from his camera that doesn't work on CS6. It's bog standard Quicktime *MOV that his Apple tells him is "MPEG-2 Video, Linear PCM, Timecode”. I'm running CS6 on a Dell XPS but every time I try to add the MOV clips I get "Codec Missing or Unavailable".
I HAVE ALREADY deactivated and reactivated and spent last night updating to the latest everything but it's made no difference.
In short, I have the CS6 video editor to which I and trying the complex task of adding a bit of video. I'm a tad miffed. What third-party codecs, if any, are installed on the computer?
Can you upload a short sample clip?
In the Export Settings dialog (CMD+M), are the MPEG formats listed--posting a screenshot of that dialog with the Format pulldown open (like the one below) could help. -

Getting error message in Business Partner search help
Hi Experts,
User is getting an error message while clicking the Search help for business Partner in all the transactions (FPL9, EEDM11, etc.).
Only few users are facing this issue. We have compared the roles of the affected users and unaffected users and the roles are same. What will be the reason for few users getting the error?
Thanks & Regards,
DipinI'm not familiar with EEDM11, but FPL9 has parameter ids that can be set at the user level. Look at
System/User Profile/Own Data, Parameters tab between your two groups of users. Also consider checking the settings in Help/Settings, F4 Help tab.
Lastly, you might try dropping debug on the error popup and see where it is being triggered from. Maybe the answer is there.

I deleted my microsoft office:mac 2011 word from my toolbar. I have Mac OS X version 10.6.8. I tried to reinstall but it won't work. This has never happened before. I get an error message each time. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have time machine.
By Toolbar, do you mean the Dock? The Translucent bar normally at the bottom of the screen, but sometimes at the right or left side?
If that's what you mean, the Dock is merely a shortcut to what is already inside the Applications folder's Microsoft Office 2011 folder. If you have Word inside your Microsoft Office 2011 folder, you can drag it back to the Dock.
If you deleted the Microsoft Office folder, or it is empty, you'll have to reinstall it.
If you don't have your registration code, you'll have to call Microsoft for a new one. -

Hello, I am editing my final project at university on Premier Pro CC on mac, but when I try to load my project in Premier Pro CC for windows on my home pc i get "codec missing or unavailable". Something to do with Apples' ProRes 422 LT codec. Is there a way round this problem?
I just went to the Miraizon site, who has been the sole licensee of ProRes for PC, to see if their $150/license download was still at that price.
This is what I found ...
They only sell a few of their other products, and the ProRes/DNxHD codec package only generates an email form to "support".
I'm afraid you'll have to transcode those files to something like DNxHD or an avi codec or something to work them via PC. And I'd thought about purchasing that codec pack from them but kept putting it off. Now, I wish I'd bought it. Ah well.

I have had an eMac for a few years. I don't know any of the specs. Every time I try to download or install a new version of itunes or OS I get any number of error messages and cannot complete. Help!!!!
It's best to start with figuring out your eMac model and OS in order to answer the question. This article will help you determine your model:
How to locate the serial number and identify your model
And to get the version of Mac OS that's installed:
From the Apple Menu at the left end of your menu bar, select "About this Mac..."
In the resulting Window, you can see the Mac OS version just under the big "Mac OS X":
If the eMac is older and you have never upgraded the system software, it's possible that your OS version is too old to run the current iTunes. The current version requires OS 10.5 (Leopard)or higher, which is a pay-for system upgrade.
